Three Braves prospects named Rising Stars

Braves prospects first baseman Joe Terdoslavich, catcher Christian Bethancourt and right-hander J.J. Hoover were named to the Arizona Fall League’s Rising Stars game on Tuesday. The all-star game will air on MLB Network and at 8:10 p.m. eastern on Saturday from Surprise Stadium.

Terdoslavich homered on Tuesday, giving him two home runs in 14 games in the Fall League. He is hitting .364 (20-for-55) with eight extra-base hits and eight RBIs.

A torrid Bethancourt has homered in three straight games including his third in a row on Tuesday. He is hitting .367 (18-for-49) with four home runs in 13 games. He had only 12 home runs in his four minor league seasons entering the Fall League, including five in 99 games this season in Single A Lynchburg.

Hoover made it despite a 1-1 record with an 11.05 ERA in eight games in relief. He’s given up 11 hits in 7 1/3 innings but worked a perfect inning on Tuesday.

Wow, Hoover made this but Gilmartin didn’t? I thought Gilmartin is posting some solid numbers in AFL.

Bethancourt has the tools; speed and the arm to play and excellent left field- if he can hit mlb pitching, I’d like to see him in spring training.

admit it, deep down inside you want to be rooting for the Turd Meister! How awesome would that be?

Think of all the nomenclature! ” The turds up and he’s in deep !@#$ right now with an 0-2 count!”

When the season ended, I was tired of Braves baseball. I just didn’t care. Now after as few weeks, a couple of additions by subtractions, and a few young players mention in the news, I think I am starting to think a little baseball.

Bethancourt gives the Braves options if Brian McCann decides to test the free agent market in a couple of years. Hopefully that doesn’t happen and the Braves are able to sign Brian long term but you never know. Right now the Braves control the next 2 years and I believe 2013 is like for 12 mil.

The Braves need to find Terdoslavich another position to play unless they are going to try and use him as trade bait.

Any news on Anderelton Simmons;
he seems to be a terrific prospect,
yet is rarely mentioned with the other elite prospects.

The Braves are certainly in the mkt for a SS;
is he in their plans at all ?

Braves need to acquire a top notch 3B prospect in anticipation of Chipper’s eventual retirement.

Trade Hudson (final contract year) to the Red Sox and use the money to get a slugger for LF.

phuch–wow i’m glad you showed the pronunciation. i might have pronounced it differently.

braves are in the market for a SS, but only for one year. my guess would be a-gon. pastornicky will be our bridge for one or two seasons til simmons is ready for the show. he is definitely in the braves’ plans. another SS prospect (matt lipka) was recently moved to center field. nick ahmed is also a minor league SS. the braves have no need to shop for a SS for more than one season. we are pretty flush at that position.

FF got hosed. who is this joey votto character? hahaha

That’s great…3 hot prospects at the 3 positions we are the strongest in. How ’bout a SS or OF prospect that can bomb it!

prado is the third baseman of the future once chipper leaves and ive herd maybe joe tedersolvicah could move to left field so thats exciting as far as betencourt is considered im happy for him that he is starting to hit and be an all around good catcher. Im also excited about simmons but I wouldnt really consider pastornicky a go between i think tyler will be our ss of the future simmons will probably go to mississippi or gwinnet for a while but its a good problem to have alot of good middle infield talent.

Braves have Salcedo in third, he`s a couple years back but he`s there and he`s a force, I hope the Braves give Pastornicky a chance to win the job at SS, he`s a speedster perfecto to have him behind Bourn

I know it is way too early for this but the last time the Braves had a promising catcher they turned into an OF was….Dale Murphy! Move Bethancourt to the OF.

A catcher with good defensiive skills — Let’s move him to the outfield?

A catcher with the speed of a tortoise — Let’s move hime to the outfield?

A firstbaseman with a great glove — Let’s move him to the outfield?

Ah, the pearls of wisdom one finds on this blog!

A Braves blog musical question –

Will you still love me tomorrow (2014, …)?

November 2nd, 2011

The Braves plan on giving Terdoslavich some work at third base and left field next year. If he keeps hitting the way he has so far, they’ll find a place for him. As for Bettencourt, I’ve always thought that you can’t ever have too much pitching or catching talent.

November 2nd, 2011
2:29 pm

Lots of talent on the way but no time to wait after last years epic collapse, they need to restore fan confidence. Wren will make some mid level moves to try and win next year with some vet FA’s to add to a very young pitching staff next year. Lowe being gone is step 1. I see Willingham in a Braves uniform by Saturday to take over in LF. Prado becomes super-utility guy again, playing 2 days a week at 3rd and some outfield, maybe getting him as many at bats as a starter. Where does SS come from is the big question, I dont see Pastornicky getting a shot with so much at stake and needing to win sooner rather than later.

Can someone tell me why we need someone in left field so bad?

Chipper is going to be playing for another year so we have Prado.

It seems like we shouldn’t have to worry about left field right now

Needing to win sooner rather than later — Birdman
sooner = 2012? later = 2012-14?

Seeing that we finished double digits behind the Phillies and went 1-11 in the last 12 games agfainst the Cards and Phils last year, I don’t think the subtraction of Lowe and the addition of a Willingham will markedly affect those numbers. If we have 2 SS candidates only 1-2 years away who will be cheap and hopefully good, why should a ~90 million dollar team add expense that will only reduce our options in 2013-14? That was not the formula used in 1991.

Thrasher Fan,

Let’s be real here folks. By the time McCann’s contract runs out he will be in his twilight years as a catcher. Despite him being a home town guy, he will either have to settle as a backup for the Braves or start signing 1-2 year contracts with NL clubs. He has a chance to DH for a few more years so that might be where he goes if he is ok with it. Long story short .. we are hoping Betancourt isready in two years so he can split time in 2014 with McCann and take over the job in 2015. That being said, I bet we trade him for young pitchers before then. It’s the Braves way.

McCann will never play anywhere else other than 1st or DH .. forget OF. The Braves should not move Freeman back to 3rd unless it’s an absolute neccessity. He is rounding out nicely at first and you don’t want to stress him. I seriosuly doubt JoeT will ever make the majors as you have to be a stud at first to make it. If he gets close we will likely trade him unless it’s coming up on Freeman becoming a free agent a few years from now. In that case we might look at moving Freeman (for more young pitching no doubt).

Here is what is likely to happen the rest of the offseason.

– re-sign Bourn as I think the Braves realize what he can do for the hitters behind him
– move Prado to 6th (he stinks at #2 hole) and play him in left
– sign a cheap vet shortstop that can play other positions
– let said SS compete with The Pastor in spring
– let Chipper man third with Prado as his backup

Anyone rooting for a big pickup has to realize we are still not in a position to spend a ton of money. The Lowe, McLouth and AGon money gains are goign to pay for this years contracts for Bourn and Diaz, plus a utility/SS player and arbitration upgrades.

Unless we move Jurrgens or Hudson we simply don’t have a significant amoutn of money to spend. Here is the sad thing .. AGon will be too expensive for us. That’s how bad the market is. so if we can’t even bring back a SS that none of us thought was as good as advertised .. what do yout hink we will get?

Murphy went to the outfield because he threw it over the center fielders head on a throw to second base. He threw good to start with but made a few bad throws and it became a head thing. Had a cannon for an arm. Threw runners out with a rope from the outfield.
