SB – You got to let them pitch sometime, just like they did with Avery, Smoltz and Glavine and at least now we still have Hudson, Beachy, Jurrjens and Minor with MLB experience. And Medlen, Martinez, Vizcaino , Teheran and Delgado have some experience, too (of varying degrees).
Somewhere along the line, if they are our future, they’re going to pitch. Hopefully they don’t need to quite yet, but if necessary, it’s time.
We’d all love it if the salary level was increased and we could go out and get everyone we all want, but let’s get real – it ain’t happening and IF Hanson (and I’m far from certain myself he’ll be healthy) goes down to injury, then we can bring someone in and let them pitch. It’s certainly a luxury most teams don’t have.,
Lew, then you are going to have to be willing to accept the bumps and bruises that they will encounter in 2012. And personally, I think 2012 is our last chance with this group…..or last chance with Chipper….and perhaps even Jurrjens/Prado. Or course, that’s not really a group. But I think we’ll be a different team in 2013 because of additions and some subtractions.
“But I think we’ll be a different team in 2013 because of additions and some subtractions.”
Damn. You mean you either need to add or subtract players for their to be a difference. Here I’ve been under the impression that “next year would be different” when guys get healthy. Oh well.
N8, we’re in a tough spot with payroll. Wren will have financial flexibility for the first time since the winter of 2008/2009 next offseason. Of course so will a lot of other teams, which many people refuse to bring up, but nevertheless, he will have some money to play with.
keylargo, here are some numbers: 119, 124, 124. Those are Mac’s OPS+ numbers from 2009-2011. Offense is down throughout the league, and to have a catcher posting those numbers is worth quite a bit. I believe Wren will look to lock Heap up after 2012. Something fair, for both sides – he’ll be 29 on Opening Day 2013. Maybe 50 million through 2016 with a vesting option for 2017 with a 2 million buyout.
these are his prime years. when he is supposed to be producing his max/ I told McFann last off season if McCann did not get in shape and produce, we have seen his best years.
we have seen his best years. You can’t continure out of shape forever and his time to decline is here.

richbrave, do they really roll back? Thank goodness, I won’t freak out when I see the time when waking up, this time, since the time falls back an hour.
Congrats to Mac. I gave him a hard time in September, but that because everybody knows how great he can be. Expectations will always be high for those great hitters. And he is a great hitter, especially for the grueling position he plays. We want something or somebody to bash when things go wrong, but McCann does way more good than bad for this team. He will be a Brave for a very long time.
Sorry I took a long time to respond but Trey, if you are the only person in the MLB in the year 2011 to hit for 33 consecutive games AND lead all second basemen in HRs, I don’t know. If it wasnt Uggla, I would have been happy with DatDudeBP.
Any thoughts to whom the Braves might add to the 40 man roster from the minors. Appologize if this has already been discussed. Too lazy to go back and look.
Efrim, I think Heyward is boom or bust next year, myself. He either gets close to that .290 line someone posted, or he’ll find he has to go back down and rebuild his swing. I don’t think he’ll be in the middle, like your .270 line. If he heals up and cleans up his mechanics, he’s way better than a .270 guy. My homerism is giving me that good feeling about the guy.
imagine next year, Mac will try to avoid having to play through a strained oblique at the end of the season.
My gosh, cab, you aren’t trying to talk sense to Mixxo, of all people? It really won’t do any good to tell him McCann has had more good Septembers than bad, in his career.
I’m having a similar feeling about Heyward. Since, oh, about age five he’s probably been the first one picked on the playground and Wren’s statements concerning lack of job certainty come spring training will show just what kind of fire he’s lit under young Jason. Now, if he can just stop sliding headfirst so much…….
Yeah, like in a microwave…..ding, o.k. he’s ready.
All kidding aside, he’s only had a short session in AAA, and a can of soda-pop in the bigs. Frankly, I think 2013, but I’m betting the BRAVES brass are thinking by mid-season, and hoping out of ST.

Hello, my man, how are you? I posted you a couple of times, but I guess you missed them. No, I’m still stuck in S. Georgia right above Valdosta, but I have a line on a place in Smyrna and hope to get back right after the first of the year. Can’t wait!
I miss the North Georgia Mountains this time of the year, I’m sure they are beautiful as always. I’ve been listening to a lot of good ole’ music, watching old movies on TCM, and working on eBay just to pass the time until I can move.
BTW what did you do with all those concert pictures you shot back in the day. You know they bring good money on eBay, right? I do real well with all my 70’s memorabilia, it keeps the bills paid.
The one regret I have is it was not cool to ask for autographs back then, especially before or after shows…I guess it was because we were “in the business” and there was a time and place for that. But, I missed out on a ton of great autographs if I could have asked when I had the chance. The swag we got back then sells real good because it was not available to the public, a lot of that stuff is rare today.
I’m hooked on MLB Network, too, waiting for some good Braves news.
Hope you are well.

And to nolie, hope you are still getting stronger everyday.
Finally got around to watching the World Series games that Jake copied for me. What a great series especially that 6th game. Awesome. Perhaps one of the best series ever
nolie, believe it or not, I prayed for you when I heard you were in the hospital. And hope you caught my comments on FSU gettin it together. Think yall caught Clemson on wrong week, GT sure smacked em last Sat. Reminds me when GT came up here( I live 40 minutes from Clemson) in 2000 and beat the Tigers on last play of the game. Clemson was 8-0 then… Anyway, get well so I can bitch at you.(Just kidding). My axe is buried.

If some team is going to give him a long term deal 7 yrs or so, having a DH option certainly doesnt hurt.

The swag we got back then sells real good because it was not available to the public, a lot of that stuff is rare today.
I’m hooked on MLB Network, too, waiting for some good Braves news.
Hope you are well.

haggard…… How you been, haven’t caught you for a while. Still getting to Hartwell on occasion?
Saw where you conversed with McFann on tek/Clemson game…… No’sting’ in me, my wifes the Tiger fan.. Glad my DAWGS pulled it out in Jax. Sat. night …… Tired of us going down and the best team loses so many times.. Now we need Arkansas to kick the “Lamecocks” this Sat…..

See you the weekend…..

Screw that award, unlike McCan’t, Molina stepped up when it mattered most. Like a true leader.
