SB – You got to let them pitch sometime, just like they did with Avery, Smoltz and Glavine and at least now we still have Hudson, Beachy, Jurrjens and Minor with MLB experience. And Medlen, Martinez, Vizcaino , Teheran and Delgado have some experience, too (of varying degrees).
Somewhere along the line, if they are our future, they’re going to pitch. Hopefully they don’t need to quite yet, but if necessary, it’s time.
We’d all love it if the salary level was increased and we could go out and get everyone we all want, but let’s get real – it ain’t happening and IF Hanson (and I’m far from certain myself he’ll be healthy) goes down to injury, then we can bring someone in and let them pitch. It’s certainly a luxury most teams don’t have.,

Is all the Fielder to Seattle speculation as him becoming a DH cause they have Justin Smoak, I can’t believe they have lost faith in him so quickly?…
November 2nd, 20116:07 pm
Patrick, they need offense badly. So maybe Smoak and Fielder split time there. Their GM, Jack Z, is also the guy that drafted Fielder.
Is all the Fielder to Seattle speculation as him becoming a DH cause they have Justin Smoak, I can’t believe they have lost faith in him so quickly?
If some team is going to give him a long term deal 7 yrs or so, having a DH option certainly doesnt hurt.
November 2nd, 20116:08 pm
Efrim, awful pitching but decent hitting. If they resign Jose Reyes they’ll look much better, and need a closer
November 2nd, 20116:12 pm
Lew, then you are going to have to be willing to accept the bumps and bruises that they will encounter in 2012. And personally, I think 2012 is our last chance with this group…..or last chance with Chipper….and perhaps even Jurrjens/Prado. Or course, that’s not really a group. But I think we’ll be a different team in 2013 because of additions and some subtractions.

Damn. You mean you either need to add or subtract players for their to be a difference. Here I’ve been under the impression that “next year would be different” when guys get healthy. Oh well.

N8, we’re in a tough spot with payroll. Wren will have financial flexibility for the first time since the winter of 2008/2009 next offseason. Of course so will a lot of other teams, which many people refuse to bring up, but nevertheless, he will have some money to play with.

keylargo, here are some numbers: 119, 124, 124. Those are Mac’s OPS+ numbers from 2009-2011. Offense is down throughout the league, and to have a catcher posting those numbers is worth quite a bit. I believe Wren will look to lock Heap up after 2012. Something fair, for both sides – he’ll be 29 on Opening Day 2013. Maybe 50 million through 2016 with a vesting option for 2017 with a 2 million buyout.
November 2nd, 20116:28 pm
And I meant that he would decline that club option for 2013 and work out a long term contract.
November 2nd, 20116:31 pm

we have seen his best years. You can’t continure out of shape forever and his time to decline is here.

I’m gonna make a small wager that just to twist the screw a little deeper, that Marek ends up in Texas setting up Feliz. LOL

Know its a stretch but best available guy to me braves can get?
UGLAA GOT ROBBED!
November 2nd, 20116:38 pm
Willie Bloomquist is officially a free agent.
Ohhh and MAC is still the best catcher I love how people start throwing out OBP and WAR and blahh blahh blahh out there Name a catcher that is better
They put the wrong stats for guys lol? ex. they said uggla had 35 hrs when he had 36)
November 2nd, 20116:39 pm
Mac had the 5th highest OBP of all major league catchers this year…
November 2nd, 20116:40 pm
I hate to hear that news on Marek, really had hopes he would fit in the bullpen sometime next year.
November 2nd, 20116:42 pm
keylargo, you have a right to your opinion but not many on here will agree.

B Mac wins silver slugger 5th straight year
November 2nd, 20116:52 pm
exactly he will win the silver slugger again this year
November 2nd, 20116:56 pm
DOB: I think the decline of The Walking Dead this season is probably due to the departure of Creator Frank Darabont. Think of The Wire without David Simon…not really possible.
November 2nd, 20116:57 pm
jason, when did Uggla get robbed?
November 2nd, 20116:58 pm
Maybe for a few more years. But if Bethancourt keeps progressing, I’d eventually get over McCann walking a la Javy Lopez
November 2nd, 20116:59 pm
Trey, he didnt win the silver slugger after haveing a 33 game hitting streak that they forgot to factor in voting
November 2nd, 20117:01 pm
Jason – no way Uggla can win the Silver Slugger after his 1st half. He was hitting under .200 in July.
November 2nd, 20117:04 pm
jeffrey, I thought you were talking about gun point.
November 2nd, 20117:06 pm
That was jason, not me Trey…
November 2nd, 20117:08 pm
Jeffrey, I know. I didn’t realize I typed in your name until just now.
November 2nd, 20117:10 pm
SURPRISE SAGURROS have the late game tonight, 8:35 EST.
And don’t clocks roll back this weekend?
AUSTRALIAN BASEBALL starts tomorrow. PUERTO RICO the day after.
November 2nd, 20117:11 pm
richbrave, do they really roll back? Thank goodness, I won’t freak out when I see the time when waking up, this time, since the time falls back an hour.
November 2nd, 20117:12 pm
His low-point was .173 BA. it sucked for a regular and a power-hitter. But he’ll be back in 2012.
November 2nd, 20117:13 pm
Well, I was actually asking because i hadn’t heard anything about it, but if you think so, then I’ll roll with it TREY.
November 2nd, 20117:17 pm
Congrats to Mac. I gave him a hard time in September, but that because everybody knows how great he can be. Expectations will always be high for those great hitters. And he is a great hitter, especially for the grueling position he plays. We want something or somebody to bash when things go wrong, but McCann does way more good than bad for this team. He will be a Brave for a very long time.
November 2nd, 20117:26 pm
Has anyone heard of MATT YOUNG terminating relationship with the BRAVES because he’s playing in MEXICAN Winter League without any affiliation listed.
November 2nd, 20117:27 pm
Yes, they do roll back, November 6, 2011.
November 2nd, 20117:30 pm
Dang, those four old farts arrested in GEORGIA by the FBI gives the definition of ‘fringe players’ a whole new meaning! Scary.
November 2nd, 20117:32 pm
All right, who decided to empty the dugout just because I hit a dinger?
November 2nd, 20117:33 pm
Best of luck on the recovery guy. Now do what they tell you from now on.
November 2nd, 20117:34 pm
O.K. I’m going to lurk now.
Think I’ll head over to BUCKHEAD…..EASE is that you out there?
November 2nd, 20117:42 pm
Sorry I took a long time to respond but Trey, if you are the only person in the MLB in the year 2011 to hit for 33 consecutive games AND lead all second basemen in HRs, I don’t know. If it wasnt Uggla, I would have been happy with DatDudeBP.
November 2nd, 20117:43 pm
5 more hours of suspense, anyone else excited?
Any thoughts to whom the Braves might add to the 40 man roster from the minors. Appologize if this has already been discussed. Too lazy to go back and look.
November 2nd, 20117:46 pm
Watch out for Uggla in 2012. I predict .269/.335/.512 to go along with 40 hrs and 110 RBI. I may be wrong but hey, I’m a fan!
How are you and have you re-located to the Atlanta area yet?
November 2nd, 20117:50 pm
That just gives him another excuse to suck next year at crunch time…….again.

That just gives him another excuse to suck next year at crunch time…….again.
Good for BRIAN
November 2nd, 20117:53 pm
I imagine next year, Mac will try to avoid having to play through a strained oblique at the end of the season.
November 2nd, 20117:54 pm
Efrim, I think Heyward is boom or bust next year, myself. He either gets close to that .290 line someone posted, or he’ll find he has to go back down and rebuild his swing. I don’t think he’ll be in the middle, like your .270 line. If he heals up and cleans up his mechanics, he’s way better than a .270 guy. My homerism is giving me that good feeling about the guy.
November 2nd, 20117:55 pm
November 2nd, 20117:56 pm
Does anyone know exactly when Pastornicky will be major league ready? I hope he makes the 25 man roster, heard the kid can flat out hit.
November 2nd, 20117:57 pm
Mixxo is referring to McCann, who won his 5th Silver Slugger award today.
November 2nd, 20117:58 pm
imagine next year, Mac will try to avoid having to play through a strained oblique at the end of the season.
My gosh, cab, you aren’t trying to talk sense to Mixxo, of all people? It really won’t do any good to tell him McCann has had more good Septembers than bad, in his career.
“YOU are next” BLOODSPORT
JOSE SHOULD FIGHT FOR THE LF JOB IF THE BRAVES FEEL PRADO SHOULD BE A UTILITY PLAYER INSTEAD OF PLAYING LF!!
November 2nd, 20117:59 pm
Nope. I know better…was just posting a comment
November 2nd, 2011
Like…….to the minute or what?
Dude, listen for the ding……..
November 2nd, 20118:00 pm
Beltran a possibility?
November 2nd, 20118:01 pm
November 2nd, 20118:02 pm
I’m having a similar feeling about Heyward. Since, oh, about age five he’s probably been the first one picked on the playground and Wren’s statements concerning lack of job certainty come spring training will show just what kind of fire he’s lit under young Jason. Now, if he can just stop sliding headfirst so much…….
November 2nd, 20118:03 pm
Congrats to McCann for winningn his 5th straight Silver Slugger Award.
it’s just some humor…
November 2nd, 20118:04 pm
Yeah, like in a microwave…..ding, o.k. he’s ready.
All kidding aside, he’s only had a short session in AAA, and a can of soda-pop in the bigs. Frankly, I think 2013, but I’m betting the BRAVES brass are thinking by mid-season, and hoping out of ST.
November 2nd, 20118:05 pm
It’s actually Mac’s 4th straight, and 5th overall
I’m betting Mac gets re-signed to an extension.
November 2nd, 20118:06 pm
So another year of Alex “The Strike Out King” Gonzalez?
November 2nd, 20118:08 pm
This one’s for you……98
Scratch that out, I meant Alex “Streaky” Gonzalez..
November 2nd, 20118:10 pm
Well, there’s alway’s “JUMPIN’ JACK, the Flash”
November 2nd, 20118:12 pm
That is the issue with peoples perception of Heyward!! It’s okay and expected for him to be somewhat inconsistent at a young age. I’d be happy with .260/.350/.440. And based on the year he has had and lack of pop overall, I’m expecting it. Also, look at Justin Uptons career to date….
November 2nd, 20118:16 pm
We-e-e’ll know pretty soon regarding the tenuous tenure of one ALEX GONZALEZ. I think he tests FA. What former great player doesn’t want the old retirement contract?
November 2nd, 20118:20 pm
HEYWARD = FRANCOUER. Send him to DAYTON for a boat-load of prospects.
Only reason i see a team getting “sea bass” is for his defense.
November 2nd, 20118:21 pm
November 2nd, 20118:22 pm
So if your a team who thinks your gonna get offense from him, don’t. you’ll probably see him give u about 17 hrs but thats all you’ll get..
November 2nd, 20118:26 pm
Hello, my man, how are you? I posted you a couple of times, but I guess you missed them. No, I’m still stuck in S. Georgia right above Valdosta, but I have a line on a place in Smyrna and hope to get back right after the first of the year. Can’t wait!
I miss the North Georgia Mountains this time of the year, I’m sure they are beautiful as always. I’ve been listening to a lot of good ole’ music, watching old movies on TCM, and working on eBay just to pass the time until I can move.
BTW what did you do with all those concert pictures you shot back in the day. You know they bring good money on eBay, right? I do real well with all my 70’s memorabilia, it keeps the bills paid.
The one regret I have is it was not cool to ask for autographs back then, especially before or after shows…I guess it was because we were “in the business” and there was a time and place for that. But, I missed out on a ton of great autographs if I could have asked when I had the chance. The swag we got back then sells real good because it was not available to the public, a lot of that stuff is rare today.
I’m hooked on MLB Network, too, waiting for some good Braves news.
Hope you are well.
November 2nd, 20118:27 pm
I’ll be happy with an 800ish season from Jason. That’s not all that bad now days
November 2nd, 20118:32 pm
haggard…… How you been, haven’t caught you for a while. Still getting to Hartwell on occasion?
Saw where you conversed with McFann on tek/Clemson game…… No’sting’ in me, my wifes the Tiger fan.. Glad my DAWGS pulled it out in Jax. Sat. night …… Tired of us going down and the best team loses so many times.. Now we need Arkansas to kick the “Lamecocks” this Sat…..
And to nolie, hope you are still getting stronger everyday.
November 2nd, 20118:35 pm
Thank you Ivan, it’s slow but getting there
November 2nd, 20118:40 pm
Finally got around to watching the World Series games that Jake copied for me. What a great series especially that 6th game. Awesome. Perhaps one of the best series ever
November 2nd, 20118:55 pm
nolie, believe it or not, I prayed for you when I heard you were in the hospital. And hope you caught my comments on FSU gettin it together. Think yall caught Clemson on wrong week, GT sure smacked em last Sat. Reminds me when GT came up here( I live 40 minutes from Clemson) in 2000 and beat the Tigers on last play of the game. Clemson was 8-0 then… Anyway, get well so I can bitch at you.(Just kidding). My axe is buried.
See you the weekend…..
November 2nd, 20118:56 pm
Screw that award, unlike McCan’t, Molina stepped up when it mattered most. Like a true leader.
