Let me mention, I don’t think the Braves ownership or front office are being stingy. Baseball is a business, like any other investment, and it’s extremely difficult to make money by owning a professional sports team. Very few actually turn a profit, no matter how successful they are or how big a market they play in. Generally, the only teams that are profitable are teams like the Yankees and Red Sox, that have an historical, national following, and teams like Pittsburgh and Florida, that have very small payrolls. Most other teams either lose money or barely break even. It’s just the nature of the business side of sports….
I expect Liberty has an expectation of a return on investment – and the Braves senior management put together a business plan. If braves mangement shows ROI in either cash flow or increased value of the franchise I’m sure Liberty will have no problem with increased payroll.
SAN DIEGO NEEDED A 27 YARD FIELD GOAL TO WIN THIS GAME AND PHILIP RIVERS FUMBLED THE SNAP AT THE FREAKING 10 YARD LINE. WITH 48 SECONDS LEFT. IN A TIE GAME. NEEDING A FREAKING 27 YARD FIELD GOAL TO WIN. THIS IS WHY I HATE THE AFC WEST.
Just got through reading about the upcoming Gold Glove awards. I was amazed to find that the award for first base will be between Joey Votto, Gaby Sanchez, and James Loney. Are you friggin kidding me? I know that rookies never win a gold glove, but Freddie Freeman is so far above any other first baseman in baseball that it’s not even funny. I really doubt that any other first baseman has meant as much to his team defensively as Freeman has to this team. Just unbelievable!
JoeBrave – I was almost going to react to your comments from last night, and call you “And Idiot”, or something, even though I don’t like to get personal. Then I saw you have the flu, and I’ll just write it off to feverish dillusions.
HOW ELSE CAN YOU EXPLAIN COMPARING BUSTER POSEY TO JOHNNY BENCH? (Maybe in 15 years you can say that, but no one else has reached that status, so I’m betting Buster busts, or at least has a very good career, but not another JB) Of course Joe Mauer is….oh wait…never mind.
I believe that about says it all concerning your credability…at least in my mind.
Ya’ll need to update your Braves news. Even if it’s no news give us a new look or something. The Braves are perfectly happy with the players they have so it will be evident when playoff time rolls around in 2012.
They will be on the outside looking in.

San Diego fumbles on KC’s 10 with 48 seconds left. KC throws a pick with 10 seconds left. 8 turnovers. Overtime. What an awful game.

And if I lose our weekly pool because San Diego choked with 48 seconds left to freaking Kansas City, I will be very angry

So you’d consider $6 mill or so a “slight” increase in payroll, huh? That’d be about 15 percent, Efrim. Not a “slight” increase
how in the world is 6 million 15% of 90 some million? that is not even close to right. It is about 1/15th not 15%

Snot, I aint a McCann fan, there is the logic, he is the poorest defensive catcher in the league
JoeBrave
oh bullcrap. he was just voted the 4th best defensive catcher in baseball. I wouldn’t go that far, but he is an average catcher at least
