JJ to KC for WIL MYERS
October 31st, 201110:18 pm
12 players = 80.895 million. Let’s just say 81 million.
So they have 15 million to play with not counting minimum salary players and a slight increase in payroll like Wren said. I’ll buy it…. — Efrim
So you’d consider $6 mill or so a “slight” increase in payroll, huh? That’d be about 15 7 percent, Efrim. Not a “slight” increase. (If that’s slight, I’d like to get a “slight” raise every year or two…)
But I also think your summary is a little high. I don’t think Bourn will get quite that much, for one thing, and McCann’s salary is probably amortized more over life of contract, knowing how Braves usually do their accounting. But I’m not sure, since they don’t disclose any of that.
October 31st, 201110:19 pm
Now we got people calling others “hicks” I see. Yes, they’re ignorat ad uneducated, but don’t act like because you live in Philly, or wherever up north, that you, aren’t uneducated and ignorant. Oh yes, trash lives everywhere, faceless one.
October 31st, 201110:20 pm
Lying lips in the FO!
KK 8.0 gone
McLouth 6.5 mill gone
Lowe 5.0 mill gone
Sherrill 2.5 mill gone
Linestink 1.5 mill gone
Gonzalez 2.5 Mill gone
Moylan 2.5 mill gone
Conrad 500k definitely GONE
My cipherin may be off a tad but I believe that is damn near 30 mill.
add in Bourn at 8.75 leaving close to 22 mill, I think some here are way over valuing Jurrjens, Prado, Hanson, those scrubs aren’t getting 11 mill in arb….Sheesh!
October 31st, 201110:22 pm
As a team fan, not a player fan, I would love nothing more than see Prado, Jurrjens, and McCann Traded!
October 31st, 201110:23 pm
Ray, JJ is worth a helluva lot more than Wil Myers… Maybe Moustakas, and Cain, along with Myers
October 31st, 201110:24 pm
JJ would not command much coming off back to back injury seasons…
October 31st, 201110:25 pm
It’s uneducated not “UNEDUCARED”, Phillie boy
Yeah lets trade the best hitting catcher in baseball away…makes alot of sense. The other 2 I have no problem with saying goodbye too if the trade makes sense.
Also all the Grady Sizemore talk makes no sense, the dude plays less games than Chipper…
October 31st, 201110:27 pm
VA…Catcher’s wear down, and Mac has the highest value! You wouldn’t deal Mac for say
Brandon Laird, Eduardo Nunez, Jesus Montero package? I would in a minute
Heap and mccann’s combined raise will be about 9.5mm, JoeBrave.
October 31st, 201110:29 pm
McCann is someone you just dont trade. He’s a special player who will be good his whole career. I think there’s a great chance he is a Brave forever.
October 31st, 201110:30 pm
So you’d consider $6 mill or so a “slight” increase in payroll, huh? That’d be about 15 percent, Efrim. Not a “slight” increase.
Good point…. “slight” increase is probably less than that.
McCann 6.7 mill in 2011 8.5 mill in 12 representing 1.8 mil.C Jones salary decreases by 1.0 mill to 13 mill hmmm.
October 31st, 201110:32 pm
JJ is worth a helluva lot more than Wil Myers… Maybe Moustakas, and Cain, along with Myers
Wil Myers as the centerpiece of a Jurrjens trade would be a hell of a return for Frank Wren and co., imo. I think today’s deal makes it a lot less likely that Jurrjens is traded. If it were ever a possibility to begin with. Gotta make sure Tommy is healthy, and I’m not sure they will figure that out until February.
October 31st, 201110:34 pm
I dont see how trading Mac is being a “team fan”.Zero logic.
Heap has incentives up to 3mm. He shouldd get around 2mm of that this year
October 31st, 201110:35 pm
Bat, wow, giving a broken down 40 year old a lotta credit there, CJ aint vesting that incentive
October 31st, 201110:36 pm
I wish we could get Cuddyer. So perfect for what we need. Can play you multiple positions sparring some guys here and there and he can hit. A guy who could hit pretty much anywhere in the lineup too.
even at 2.0 in incentives that is only 2.8 mill not 9.5
I see 95 games tops out of Jones.
October 31st, 201110:38 pm
Snot, I aint a McCann fan, there is the logic, he is the poorest defensive catcher in the league, and is very questionable with his in game pitch calling.
Willingham is so injury prone. He does down again with a another back injury and we’re back to that same old injury problem on the team again. But, I guess it would be worth a shot and hope he could stay up.
October 31st, 201110:39 pm
Sell high Frank!
My favorite trade concept spouted by some fans – trade players when they have max value. Get prospects in return for players at or close to their peak – which amounts to rebuilding – hoping that those prospects pan out, then as soon as those prospects reach close to their so-called highest / max value, trade them and get new generation of prospects. Forget about winning. Treat the team as a trading platform, players as trade assets and count how many trades you won, instead of trying to winning the championship as a team with a mixture of vets and young players.
October 31st, 201110:40 pm
From the espn.com article;
Injuries have sabotaged Sizemore’s career, limiting him to just 210 games the past three seasons. Sizemore, who at one stage of his career played in 382 consecutive games, has undergone five surgeries — two on his knees — in the past three years and is no longer a base-stealing threat.
Sizemore played in only 71 games last season, batting .224 with 10 homers and 32 RBIs..
I don’t think Sizemore is worth the risk.
October 31st, 201110:42 pm
Give you guys a name here, Donnie Murphy! Ya won’t like it but it could happen.
October 31st, 201110:46 pm
he is the poorest defensive catcher in the league, and is very questionable with his in game pitch calling.
You have no proof for either of these, because it is not true. Pulling stuff out of your rear doesnt count as logic. But since that is what you always do, I’ll stop wasting my time.
October 31st, 201110:47 pm
Snot , Mccann is in the bottom of league defense at the Catcher position. that sir is fact.
October 31st, 201110:48 pm
I said it was McCann and Uggla combined. I was looking at another site but if you go by Cots and figure McCann at 2mm of incentives reached I get 8.5mm. So yeah not 9.5
October 31st, 201110:49 pm
-7 McCann’s defense accounted for seven losses this past year, I wonder what that 6 game win would have done for the Playoffs?
October 31st, 201110:50 pm
Bat, I see where you are coming from, but actual money on Uggs, and McCann is 4.8 mill
October 31st, 201110:53 pm
Probably not gonna make JoeBrave happy when the Braves extend McCann’s contract, huh.
October 31st, 201110:54 pm
Mac was 7th in fielding percentage
1st in total chances
2nd in total put outs
4th in assists
21st in errors (tied with Yadier Molina, by the way)
tied for 1st in double plays
13th in caught stealing (better than both Molina & Carlos Ruiz)
32nd in caught stealing percentage (better than Ruiz)
1st in range factor
This is in MLB, not just the NL
October 31st, 201110:55 pm
Mac 4th best catcher blocking plate from 08-11 -
Bat, it sure won’t, McCann Isnt Johhny Bench.
October 31st, 201110:57 pm
Folks I ever said Mac was terrible, I said I am not a fan, He has high value and could net much needed pieces, it’s baseball it happens, now once again, If he was gary Carter, Johnny Bench, it’d be a different story, I watched him slip this year, and he will continue to do so.
oops meant never
McFann O O o Get Well Soon, Nolie!!
October 31st, 201110:58 pm
McCann Isnt Johhny Bench.
Well, who is?
October 31st, 201110:59 pm
Ok, I give up. Sign Johnny Bench, I think he’s a free agent.
Buster Posey is McFann. So will Wil Myers be. McCann…umm nope
October 31st, 201111:00 pm
If he was gary Carter, Johnny Bench, it’d be a different story
Dude, that’s just not a very good argument because nobody is or will be them.
Folks I ever said Mac was terrible
Well, yeah, you basically did…
Buster Posey is McFann.
No, man. I’m a girl.
October 31st, 201111:01 pm
Brian McCann c
6 years/$26.8M (2007-12), plus 2013 club option
6 years/$26.8M (2007-12), plus 2013 club option
signed extension with Atlanta 3/07, replacing 1 year/$0.44M deal for 2007
$1M signing bonus
07:$0.5M, 08:$0.8M, 09:$3.5M, 10:$5.5M, 11:$6.5M, 12:$8.5M, 13:$12M club option ($0.5M buyout)
McCann may earn additional $3M in 2012 based on Gold Gloves, Silver Sluggers & All-Star selections in 2007-11
2012 becomes club option if McCann fails to win specified awards 2007-2011
Dan Uggla 2b
5 years/$62M (2011-15)
5 years/$62M (2011-15)
signed extension with Atlanta 1/5/11
$1M signing bonus
11:$9M, 12:13M, 13:$13M, 14:$13M, 15:$13M
Okay, looks like I was wrong again.
If McCann gets 2mm in incentives that will be 10.5mm , that is 4mm more than 2011
Uggla 9mm in 2011 ……… 13mm in 2012 …… 4mm raise
So I’m down from 9.5mm to 8mm
October 31st, 201111:02 pm
For real, though—Buster Posey is Buster Posey. And he hasn’t even played a full season in the majors, so NO WAY cann you ever pretend to compare him to Johnny Freaking Bench.
And I know not who Wil Myers is nor who he plays for.
October 31st, 201111:03 pm
Posey may move away from catcher position but his HOF shrine is already set up, right next to Joe Mauer’s. Mac can wait in parking lot, if he gets tickets.
okay so everyone else has trash prospects and the Braves deserve to acquire all the Best at each position, and trade only the likes of Brooks Conrad, and Josey Constanzy… I got it now…
I keep seeing Pastornicky brought up here, I guess you all think he is the next Gary Templeton?
I have seen him play both at Rome, and Gwinnett, kid absolutely blows in the field, Gwinnett has a damn great infield so don’t hand me that minor league park crap.
Pastornicky is over-hyped trade fodder.
You also have to factor in the small raises some of the young players will get. Those may not be in the millions, but they do add up. Heyward, Freeman, Venters, Kimbrel- they won’t get a lot, but they will get something
Anyway, I don’t have time for this carp…time for bed.
You’re not a fan of BMac, that’s your funeral.
October 31st, 201111:04 pm
Whew! You got that right…
October 31st, 201111:05 pm
McFann where did I call Mac trash??? I said he was questionable defensively, and calls a poor game, Good not great hitter, not trash just a highly prized piece, that could net major haul…
October 31st, 201111:07 pm
The incentives work out to 200K per award per year. So from 2007 till now, it works out to 5 AS selections + 3 (or 4 if it he gets it this year) SS awards. So max he can earn is 1.8 M. Currently at 1.6M.
Nobody said everyone else has trash prospects, just that Mac is better than anyone that is out there now. You seem to be the only one over hyping people. Calling a 20 year old that hasn’t played above double A “Johnny Bench” seems a bit…much
And Mac does not call a poor game.
October 31st, 201111:08 pm
Oh good grief, I merely mentioned ,I would trade McCann, after all a better player than McCann was traded from here.. see David Justice, Brett Butler,Marquis Grissom.
October 31st, 201111:10 pm
You also mentioned that he was the worst defensive catcher in the majors, which he isn’t, calls a poor game, which he doesn’t, and said Buster Posey and Wil Myers are Johnny Bench, which is not even close to true.
Really cab, Montero, Ruiz, there are better. Cap tippin ya know. And I hate Ruiz.
October 31st, 201111:11 pm
Posey’s got it made. Seriously. A name that stands out – gets ESPN harping about him and before he has had two seasons worth of numbers, he’s an all-time great. Awesome.
Ok, last comment and off to bed for me.
Attn. ML teams (except braves) – available for trade –
a highly prized piece that needs to net major haul –
questionable defensively, and calls a poor game, Good not great hitter.
Line (1) will be opened for bidding tomorrow from 6:46 AM.
October 31st, 201111:12 pm
Statistically, Ruiz is not much better than Mac. And Mac is better in several areas.
The difference here is I am not enamored with Mccann, you guys are, McCann has the highest value of any player on the team, yes I would get my self major league ready players for him. that is all I am saying… it is baseball it does happen.
October 31st, 201111:13 pm
So you would fill one position by creating a hole at another. Makes sense…
October 31st, 201111:14 pm
Off to bed down with the flu, blessings to you all.
October 31st, 201111:15 pm
Nunez ss, Montero c,Nova sp, more than one hole filled there.
3 SS, I thought it was 4. Oh, well if he wins this year, 1.8mm. Close enough for hand-grenades
We don’t need a long term shortstop, don’t need another starting pitcher, don’t need a catcher.
October 31st, 201111:16 pm
Hope you feel better, JoeBrave.
Feel better JoeBrave!
October 31st, 201111:18 pm
Intact the team failed miserably in Sept, inconsistent offense, Uggla needs to be hidden, Jones can’t hide him, neither can McCann, Heyward can he return? Uggla can he overcome the streakiness? Bourn, will he sign up? Jurrjens, Hanson??? Oft injured, can they stay healthy track record says no. Prado, really do you want 13 hr at 3b ???
October 31st, 201111:19 pm
cab have you seen Pastornicky play????? Over-Hyped is an understatement.
October 31st, 201111:20 pm
Thanks guys, I really aint bashing Mac just saiyng before he gets old in hurry deal em. thats all
I think he needs more work defensively, which he will get this year. But he is, as of right now, the Braves SS of the near future. So they are not going to be looking for a long term contract at that position.
October 31st, 201111:21 pm
Go take care of yourself! We will be here ready to argue with you tomorrow!
October 31st, 201111:22 pm
Flu’s made you delusional, JoeBrave.
Feel better soon.
October 31st, 201111:23 pm
Cab, remember Diory hype, JHey hype,Ron Wright hype, Ka’lahue hype, yes right now even Hanson all HYPE. that’s what the Braves do, seen it too many years, build up a spect to trade and watch him flop elsewhere, name one outside of Feliz/Andrus that did anything of merit, aside from Wainwright.
October 31st, 201111:24 pm
You also have to factor in the small raises some of the young players will get.
I was just trying to point out to JoeBrave that the Braves don’t have that much money to spend, though that 5mm from Lowe can’t hurt. People that are willing to put in a lot more effort than I would (practically nil) have laid this all out. God bless ‘em
Cab good night, and bless you all alka seltzer kickin in, new me arguin with out cUSSIN… imagine that
October 31st, 201111:25 pm
Sure, a player may not live up to his billing (not going to call Jason over-hyped yet) but Pasternicky will get the chance to show if he belongs. But there is no reason to give up on him before he gets a legitimate chance to prove himself.
October 31st, 201111:26 pm
I always enjoy a spirited discussion that stays civil. Good night!
October 31st, 201111:27 pm
Ward still hasn’t shown up, yet?
You know Hanson has been pretty damned good, so far.
before I leave here is the dumbest trade I have seen:
makes me fell kinda smart
October 31st, 201111:28 pm
If you want to talk about Pasternicky, get Ward in here.
I was trying to provide you with a bit of assistance, apparently I failed…
October 31st, 201111:30 pm
Wait- someone actually suggested the Dodgers would trade Billingsly AND Kemp? Please tell me that is nobody we know…
I was very optimistic FW could get a Lowe deal done for 5mil. and he didn’t dissapoint. Now maybe we can get that Freeze guy or Craig from the Cards.
October 31st, 201111:31 pm
hmmm some dummy on a prosports daily blog, certainly not me , albeit I got told I was retarded and had no nowledge of Baseball for saying that trade will never happen.
Apparantly a Dodger fan
October 31st, 201111:32 pm
I don’t think people care to hear the Braves don’t have a lot of money to spend. I’m not crazy about it myself but what are you gonna do…………
October 31st, 201111:33 pm
Didn’t think it was you- even you are not that…
GO TO BED!!
Bat, I don’t believe the FO, they have money, just stingy with it, else Uggla wouldn’t have gotten extended
Team seems to be doing ok with what they can afford.
Goin now CAB
October 31st, 201111:34 pm
If anyone is stingy with money, it’s not the front office- it’s ownership. They are the ones that set the payroll numbers, not Frank Wren
October 31st, 201111:36 pm
The Mike Minor draft pick is starting to look a little like the Texiera trade in terms of blog comments.
I don’t think the Braves organization is going to fall apart because of the Mike Minor draft. Who knows, he could turn into the next Tom Glavine and become a future hall of famer. (not holding breath)
October 31st, 201111:37 pm
October 31st, 201111:41 pm
Speaking of draft picks, where will the Braves pick in 2012? I thought I heard 28.
I’m guessing they won’t get anyone else’s #1 pick because of FA/arbitration.
If anyone is stingy with money, it’s not the front office- it’s ownership.
I read something about John Malone buying another large tract of land. Catching up with Turner. Dude ought to sell one of his smaller states and spend that money on the Braves.
October 31st, 201111:45 pm
The whole stingy thing …
I thought someone in the Braves FO (probably Wren) mentioned that they want to run a profitable enterprise. If they have $$$ coming in and $$$ going out, those numbers need to be somewhat compatible.
Attendance, merchandizing, TV rights, … have a lot to do with what the Braves payroll is.
I know folks want to talk about the glory years of Ted Turner. Don’t forget, TBS was the only game in town for television baseball night in and night out. That cash cow spawned the 90’s juggernaut.
Now, the Braves are one more face in the crowd.
Unless the Braves (or other franchise) pioneers some new revenue stream, $$$ in > $$$ out will be the name of the game.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
