12 players = 80.895 million. Let’s just say 81 million.

So they have 15 million to play with not counting minimum salary players and a slight increase in payroll like Wren said. I’ll buy it….Efrim

So you’d consider $6 mill or so a “slight” increase in payroll, huh? That’d be about 15 7 percent, Efrim. Not a “slight” increase. (If that’s slight, I’d like to get a “slight” raise every year or two…)

But I also think your summary is a little high. I don’t think Bourn will get quite that much, for one thing, and McCann’s salary is probably amortized more over life of contract, knowing how Braves usually do their accounting. But I’m not sure, since they don’t disclose any of that.

oh brudder!
Lying lips in the FO!
KK 8.0 gone
McLouth 6.5 mill gone
Lowe 5.0 mill gone
Sherrill 2.5 mill gone
Linestink 1.5 mill gone
Gonzalez 2.5 Mill gone
Moylan 2.5 mill gone
Conrad 500k definitely GONE
My cipherin may be off a tad but I believe that is damn near 30 mill.
add in Bourn at 8.75 leaving close to 22 mill, I think some here are way over valuing Jurrjens, Prado, Hanson, those scrubs aren’t getting 11 mill in arb….Sheesh!

Wil Myers as the centerpiece of a Jurrjens trade would be a hell of a return for Frank Wren and co., imo. I think today’s deal makes it a lot less likely that Jurrjens is traded. If it were ever a possibility to begin with. Gotta make sure Tommy is healthy, and I’m not sure they will figure that out until February.

My favorite trade concept spouted by some fans – trade players when they have max value. Get prospects in return for players at or close to their peak – which amounts to rebuilding – hoping that those prospects pan out, then as soon as those prospects reach close to their so-called highest / max value, trade them and get new generation of prospects. Forget about winning. Treat the team as a trading platform, players as trade assets and count how many trades you won, instead of trying to winning the championship as a team with a mixture of vets and young players.

From the espn.com article;

Injuries have sabotaged Sizemore’s career, limiting him to just 210 games the past three seasons. Sizemore, who at one stage of his career played in 382 consecutive games, has undergone five surgeries — two on his knees — in the past three years and is no longer a base-stealing threat.

Sizemore played in only 71 games last season, batting .224 with 10 homers and 32 RBIs..

I don’t think Sizemore is worth the risk.

The incentives work out to 200K per award per year. So from 2007 till now, it works out to 5 AS selections + 3 (or 4 if it he gets it this year) SS awards. So max he can earn is 1.8 M. Currently at 1.6M.

The whole stingy thing …

I thought someone in the Braves FO (probably Wren) mentioned that they want to run a profitable enterprise. If they have $$$ coming in and $$$ going out, those numbers need to be somewhat compatible.

Attendance, merchandizing, TV rights, … have a lot to do with what the Braves payroll is.

I know folks want to talk about the glory years of Ted Turner. Don’t forget, TBS was the only game in town for television baseball night in and night out. That cash cow spawned the 90’s juggernaut.

Now, the Braves are one more face in the crowd.

Unless the Braves (or other franchise) pioneers some new revenue stream, $$$ in > $$$ out will be the name of the game.
