I just hope uses patience in filling his Shortstop hole. I think Alex is going to get a two year deal on the open market, so he should offer arbitration to net a supp. first round pick.
I’m not saying I’d give him two years. But I wouldn’t be surprised if someone saw the home run numbers and above average defense and gave him a two year deal around 7 million.
I just want to offer him arbitration, get a draft pick and then go sign someone like Clint Barmes to a one year deal.
Cab. Sorry you’re not getting the niners. Can’t figure out how the NFL decides on whogets which games. Maybe they figure no one in socal cares about nocal teams? The Chargers are never on up here. Go figure.
$7 million for one year of Gonzo? Nah, never.
Steve, I think Teheran, Vizcaino, Delgado and Gilmartin make it for pitchers. Pastornicky, Bethancourt, Salcedo, Simmons and Lipka make it. That last spot is tough. I’ll say Todd Cunningham gets in. If he was healthy, at all, Milligan would be my choice.
Can’t really disagree, Efrim. I really like Todd Cunningham, just wish the bat would fit the position a bit better. He could be a nice UT player for us down the line, though. Not blue-chip, but useful.
There’s a chance Salcedo and Lipka don’t make it, but I think it’s kind of hard to look past their potential. Not even sure who you’d replace them with. Terdoslavich? La Stella? I just don’t think their overall ceiling is as high.
I don’t have a secure feeling that any of those lower level players will ever amount to much in the majors
Yeah, outside of Teheran, Delgado, and Viz (and I’m sure I’m forgetting someone in this blanket statement, so lay off!) there aren’t any slam-dunk guys in the system, and this is a big concern of mine. Guys like Cunningham, Lipka, Terdo, Pastornicky could potentially start someday, but none of them (in my mind) project to be above-average regs for any lengthened period of time. Salcedo and Bethancourt are really interesting but still pretty raw. Milligan has a big stick but can’t stay healthy or walk. Really, it’s quite a mixed bag of prospects.
I bet Rollins stays in Philly, Reyes to SF. Braves probably get a vet SS on the cheap in case Pastronicky proves in the spring he isn’t ready just yet. Pastornicky probably gets every single chance to prove himself judging by what Wren says about him.
Probably shouldn’t say this, but just going to the grocery store seeing an obese family is sad. They were in front of us checking out and nothing but fatty foods and cokes. I think Rollins stays put too, but Reyes is really hard to figure. San Francisco’s payroll is suppose to be around 125 million and they have 82.2 million in guaranteed contracts after exercising Affeldt’s option and re-signing Javier Lopez today. That still doesn’t count arbitration eligible players: Lincecum, J. Sanchez, Keppinger, Ramirez, Casilla, Vogelsong, Sandoval, Romo, Schierholtz. Probably going to non tender Torres and Whiteside. Even so, that’s a ton of players that they have money owed. I think it’s going to be difficult to sign a player like Reyes.
Probably shouldn’t say this, but just going to the grocery store seeing an obese family is sad. _ TnBrian
I stopped in the grocery store for a couple of things this afternoon. I didn’t see any particularly fat people, I did see a lot of people dressed for cold weather. Heavy shirts, sweaters and jackets, boots, wool caps, like that.
Probably gonna put a damper on the exhibitionist ………………………..
You are so bigoted against fat people that you have the need to come on to a baseball blog and rant against them out of the blue?
Do you scream insults at them too when you see them out walking?
Food is a drug to some people. It’s lethal, just like heroin. It is an addiction. If I had said I saw a family with scabs all over their arms on the corner buying some baggies I bet BravesfaninBC wouldn’t have called me out as a “bigote”.
Now that FA has begun we can start hearing some rumbblings of exactly what is in store for the Braves this year. Seen the guy from Newsday put out his FA predictions. Had the Braves landing Willingham at 2/$16 and A Gon at 1/$7. The Willingham deal is fine and understandable but if Gonzalez is going to command a 7 mil contract then don’t let the door hit you on the @$$ on the way out. If Willingham is acquired I expect the Braves to fill the SS void with a trade.
I like Willingham on a two year deal. Give Terdo some time to develop at the upper class before he is thrusted into ML duty. Be awesome to move Lowe but he may become the most expensive long relief guy in baseball. Though I think a team may be willing to take him at around 5 mil I’m not sold on the Braves eating that much of the contract.
Unfortunately, I do not believe LOWE could be effective out of the pen. He had a lot of trouble in most first innings until he loosened up in the second. Too ineffective to start to be a reliefer in my book. And he was not particularly effective after five, sometimes less. Heck, a couple innings at most late in the season.

TERDO is no where near ML ready on the field or at bat. Two seasons at least. So yeah, I’m with you. WILLINGHAM for two, and we back off both HINSKI and DIAZ. Take GONZALEZ for one if he’ll go for it, or let him test FA. Sign JACK WILSON for two in his stead if necessary. SIMMONS will need that long to properly develop. PASTORNICKY will be the understudy. DIORY’s batting over .300 in FALL BALL. Use him in a trade, and keep HICKS in AAA for insurance.
I think Willingham is the best option for our needs. I hope they don’t move Prado but I think its a possibility. Not sure whats going to happen at SS but I’m not expecting anything big. I figured Gonzo would definitely be back but looking at the market he may be able to get more elsewhere.
Ward, I want a guy who can help score runs for the Braves in the outfield, not someone who has a lot of power if he strikes out more than he gets on base.
Trey, what we need is some one who’s big,and can hit the ball out of Turner field, but as long ,as he can crank them out. I’ll welome him on the team.Braves out field ,was near the bottom…..
We’re not starving for someone who can just bang em out of the park. We need production from the outfield not just HR. Especially someone with a good OBP.
The three out fielders out there
1. Cuddyer
2.Josh Willingham
3.Carlos Quentin,as of top quality…….There could be more with a possible trade….I would accept anyone as of now on my list.
Which is the main problem with Willingham. I really don’t expect Uggla to go through that again, I think Willingham and Uggla are similar hitters. Although having them two in the middle of the order would be great barring another slump in the beginning of the year.
Neither one needs to be ridiculed TnBrian and it speaks poorly of you that you need to do so.
Not that I am all that surprised given the judgmental comments that you often make about others.
Ward, I like Uggla, too, but he does strike out a lot, even on a good year.
P’Cola Brave, I’m sure Uggla won’t go through that again, but I am betting he still gets well over 100 strike outs. However, Uggla, B Mac and possibly Josh Willingham can lead to an extremely potent lineup.

Ward, we need to be careful. We can’t afford another Dan Uggla, that while he is really good for the team, he strikes out way too much.

Trey, I like Dan Uggla, and predict a huge year next year, and he did have a nice rebound. I think he had to get used to the new switch, and location.
