From Esquire, “The Prospect” by Charles Pierce, May 1, 2002…

The White Sox — and, because of that, [Bob] Fontaine — have a lot riding on [Joe] Borchard. They’ve already spent enough money on him to label him a $5 million prospect. He’s not likely to take his dough and bolt back to Stanford; his season in Birmingham last year was probably too good for that. But there are a hundred other variables between where Borchard is now and where Fontaine wants him to be.

Joe, 32, retired as a Bluefish from Bridgeport on June 1, 2011.

Bob Fontaine, Jr. accepted a job with the Mariners in ‘03 and was Director of Scouting until 2008.

philfan, ron washington’s team put him in a tough spot because they blew game 6 twice. they had the world series won 2 times, and couldnt get the third out. wash used alot of bullets in game 6 (derek holland for instance) because he was trying to lock it down, and that hurt him in game 7, i think.

Patrick, hush. Berkman, Pujols, Motte, Freese all seem like good guys. Yeah LaRussa is really arrogant and not much a Holliday or Carpenter fan either, but just about every team has some jerks. I won’t go any further than that as I have never liked the Cards anyways, but they did deserve a title this time.

At NO POINT did I “place blame” on Chipper for the season. It was simply one moment that seemed like a play that he has made 1000 times (probably more), that pretty much summed up how our final month went.

Get over yourselves. Blaming the season on Chipper’s miscue in Florida?
