I thought LaRussa was less than classy after the Braves came back in the 96 NLCS, I have never been a fan of Bobby Knight, and I loved seeing the Giants beat the Patriots (I’m also hoping the Dolphins win the Andrew Luck sweepstakes!)

LaRussa wants to be the main event. In all reality it’s a self conscious problem. Bobby Cox was/is so far from that it’s unreal. Russa may be more strategic at managing a baseball game and may have more WS rings than a guy like Bobby, but respect goes a lot further to me.

Hey, good luck with that new job man. About 20 some years ago, I went through a tough go during the early 90’s recession. Tough times suck. But after you have survived them and come out ahead, you look back and realize they have helped to build your character.

Tom, I’m hard my Braves. That’s really the one thing my outlook can get p** poor on. They’re a real good team that underacheives too much is why I guess. May be why I say coaches/manager really helped sink the ship this year. Way too much talent for them to do it all on their own.

No, no I am a Detroit Lions fan (loved the Dolphins when I was a kid so also have followed them through the years and still care – the only team I want more to have a great QB again than the Lions would be the Dolphins – of course they’ve had one much more recently!)

Isn’t strange how they called the 6,because of rain,and they could’ve played in the rain,and it happened in St. Louis.Can’t give a team credit for donig that,and yes they both agreed,but could’ve have played. It’s funny how it happened when the Rangers had the momentum,and it was in St. Louis.

Cardinals did exactly what I have been preaching happens about half the time. The hot team coming into the playoffs has a good shot at winning it all. 6 of the last 11 have NOT been the best teams in baseball for the year.
Maybe next year we can have our July in September………….

I wanted Rangers to win ,because we would hear about how the Cards won it,and came form 10 1/2 games back to take the Wild Card away.Now we can hear about this all year next year.That was my thinking for going with the Rangers too.Tired about hearing how lucky the Cards were,and lets see if they can do it again next year. Nope. You still don’t get it. ZERO problem with Chipper in general. Now, Chipper’s production, his 14 million dollar contract, the odds of him getting worse rather than better, and us needing money to get some help?
THAT I have a problem with. It’s no knock on what he’s done or meant to the organization. Simply what he’ll provide moving forward. Like it or not, he’s not worth 14 million dollars anymore to a team that will barely top out at 90 million in payroll.
As for Mac and Bethancourt? If Bethancourt is truly as gifted as it sounds like he is? The Braves would be silly to not go with him 2-3 years down the road if Mac shows any signs of decline by the time that contract is up.
Are the Braves going to “push” Mac away? Highly unlikely. But since when have the Braves NOT gone with a cheaper, younger (possibly as good – if it comes to that) option, rather than resign a guy that will be around 30 when his deal runs out?
Again. Like it or not. If after the 2013 season if Mac continues on this path, and is about to command 15-20 million on the open market and the Braves can insert a 23 year old into his spot? Why on earth would they not do that?
Seems like it’s a long ways away. So not much point in discussing it. Too many things could happen by then. Bethancourt could be traded. Bethancourt could have a career changing injury. Mac could get injured. Mac could begin to fade, somebody could buy the Braves and be willing to give Mac 20 million per year. Maybe Bethancourt switches positions, etc…..
It’s surely not happening BEFORE the contract runs out. But to act as though the Braves wouldn’t think of it? That’s silly.

about the same today with nolie, not much change from Thursday. He was happy about the Cards winning. He has not been able to watch the games because of the heart trouble so I have DVRed them all for him.
I know he is eager to get back home and watch them and to raise some hell on the blog. Probably give N8 some “what for”

Hi there boys and girls. Well, another season has come and gone with the Cards being crowned for the 11th time. I congratulate them, their fans, and their organization. I’m really happy for them. I wish it was us, but in all reality, I’m just glad that it wasn’t the Phillies. I’ve noticed that some here really dislike Tony LaRussa and I understand that. But to be honest, I can identify with Tony. He is an arrogant sumbitch and I can be that way too at times, and so can a good many posters on this blog too whether you wanna admit to it or not. The fact is that I see it as human nature to have a measure of arrogance when you are good at something. Tony is like that and he has that right. Holy Jesus, he has made Bobby, Fredi, and a whole lot of team’s managers look bad over the years. And some say that he wants all the attention. Well yeah! If you were managing a team, wouldn’t you want to shield your players from as much unwanted attention as you can? I think that is what he does.
Anyway, the best part of baseball is coming up when everyone thinks the world championship is within grasp if the team can make the right moves. I, however, will try to refrain from getting too giddy this next time around unless some major issues are dealt with, and I don’t think they will be.

really? Bobby beat him in head to head play , and had a much better overall winning %.
And where it matters the most, LaRussa has won 3 World Series in 6 trips, and Bobby has 1 in 5 trips. And Bobby had arguably the best starting rotations in history for most of his 14 consecutive division titles as the Brave’s skipper. Face it, LaRussa made more out of his chances than Bobby did.

You are right. In my opinion, LaRussa has done better than Bobby. And maybe my saying than LaRussa made Bobby and others “look bad” was a poor choice of words. Bobby made himself look bad all by himself on a number of occasions. I won’t consider head-to-head as a reasonable indicator of who was better because LaRussa did not have those studs in his starting rotation that Bobby did. That wouldn’t be a fair comparison. As for LaRussa’s screwups this year? I think he made up for them in the end, don’t you? He has clearly made his trips to the World Series count for more than Bobby did.

Teams most often win or lose despite their managers.
It’s been quite a while since Bobby had all those studs too that you keep using as an excuse. More than half the time that he played Tony.
and when He did have a run of great pitching he often was saddled with inferior hitting.

So many feelings about the world series.
1. Can we take solace in the fact that the Braves were beaten by the World champs for 2 years in a row? *My thoughts are no, because if they didn’t choke, I do believe they wouldn’t have gone far in the playoffs.
2. I feel really bad for Texas, it has to be gut wrenching to be 1 strike away from winning it all and fail.
3. I HATE so many of the cardinals. LaRussa is a complete jackass, I hate berkman, furcal, holiday, freese, carpenter, molina…in fact I am not have for 1 single player on that team for winning. They are definitely in my top 5 teams that I do not want to see win

I like Berkman too, almost as good a switchhitter as Chipper. Actually has better OBP and S%, though he has more difference between left and right than Chipper does.
