give me the guy that crushes the trachea.
October 29th, 201112:44 am
Congrats Cardinal fans!
I feel badly for Wash and Nolan Ryan.
I haven’t like Tony L since his days in Oakland (when I was a Braves fan first, Giants fan second for 15 years). Great manager. Arrogant sumbeach.
TIme for the rumor mill to begin!
October 29th, 201112:48 am
wayne, why all the negative waves?
October 29th, 201112:49 am
2011 Cards go in the record books, and the Braves will be in that book getting shamed. And they should in all honesty. Watching StC win it all makes me feel that gut wrenching collapse from our team again.
October 29th, 201112:51 am
tnbrian, the braves go in the book the same as the marlins and the pirates.
I thought LaRussa was less than classy after the Braves came back in the 96 NLCS, I have never been a fan of Bobby Knight, and I loved seeing the Giants beat the Patriots (I’m also hoping the Dolphins win the Andrew Luck sweepstakes!)
October 29th, 201112:52 am
So next week or soon after we hopefully get some news on guys like Hinske and maybe even AGon. Will these guys be back?
October 29th, 201112:56 am
TnBrian, hopefully we get some new and improved players.
I hope Ske. I don’t know what to think about AGon.
mibravesfans, it is called the SUCK and we get LUCK.
October 29th, 201112:58 am
TNbrian, new job? good for you.
amazon, really good.
they have more then a future.
LaRussa wants to be the main event. In all reality it’s a self conscious problem. Bobby Cox was/is so far from that it’s unreal. Russa may be more strategic at managing a baseball game and may have more WS rings than a guy like Bobby, but respect goes a lot further to me.
October 29th, 201112:59 am
uga – well that’s where the NFL is good about giving fans something to look forward to even when their team is at the bottom of the barrel! Believe me, I know!!
October 29th, 20111:00 am
could tell you about a institution that had more puts on amzn.
spread it though.
That’s all the negative waves from me tonight. Everything else is going to be righteous and beautiful…………
Just chillin watching some Triple D…………
October 29th, 20111:01 am
Watching StC win it all makes me feel that gut wrenching collapse from our team again — TnBrian
You could always look at it more positively. How about… the Braves, for 2 years in a row, barely got edged-out by the World Champions.
uga, thanks! Yeah I’m excited, first good paying job I’ve ever had. No doubt the long hours and workload will take its toll, but gotta do what you gotta do. Things are getting pretty tough on us, so this will help big time.
October 29th, 20111:02 am
you have earned the DROOPY dog award.
dude atlanta is bad but /
I’ve been more miss than hit since the end of the season. Has Fun Frankie revealed his hand on some of his free agents and option guys?
October 29th, 20111:04 am
Now that’s my kinda spin cycle………
October 29th, 20111:05 am
serious, that is a really good company.
total inovator. hold on to that.
good for you my man.
October 29th, 20111:06 am
uga – try the Lions.
October 29th, 20111:07 am
Hey, good luck with that new job man. About 20 some years ago, I went through a tough go during the early 90’s recession. Tough times suck. But after you have survived them and come out ahead, you look back and realize they have helped to build your character.
Seriously, best of luck to ya.
October 29th, 20111:08 am
Tom, I’m hard my Braves. That’s really the one thing my outlook can get p** poor on. They’re a real good team that underacheives too much is why I guess. May be why I say coaches/manager really helped sink the ship this year. Way too much talent for them to do it all on their own.
Is the Clemson/Tech game tomorrow night on TV?
October 29th, 2011
dude atlanta is bad but /”
No, no I am a Detroit Lions fan (loved the Dolphins when I was a kid so also have followed them through the years and still care – the only team I want more to have a great QB again than the Lions would be the Dolphins – of course they’ve had one much more recently!)
And don’t tell me the Falcons are bad! If Stafford loses to Tebow I might abandon all hope! ):
October 29th, 20111:10 am
October 29th, 2011
uga – try the Lions.”
October 29th, 20111:13 am
You’re a true fan, I know that. You can vent anyway you please. I’m just having a little fun with it. (It’s better than me crying.)
Glad to hear, also, that you’ve got a new job. Best of luck with it. If uga thinks it’s a good place to work, then it probably is.
October 29th, 20111:16 am
DS1, thanks. Yeah, I guess we’re all just trying to make it out here.
uga, I’ve heard Amazon is good to work for. The people, benefits and the pay can start getting really good.
The one negative about this are the two words I hate – mandatory overtime.
October 29th, 20111:17 am
NFL – you, the Lions – me the Packers
NCAAFB – you, MSU – me, PSU
MLB – both of us… Braves??? (are you sure one of isn’t a Phils fan?)
When I say take care everyone, I really do mean it! Goodnight, folks! Get well soon, Nolie!
Hello everyone! Yes,and finally the World Series is over, and The Off season begins…..
October 29th, 20111:19 am
Tom – I couldn’t leave with that – WHAT?!!!! Tigers fan in the AL I confess, but that flipin’ — you?! A traitor in our midst?!!!
October 29th, 20111:20 am
Everyone should remember the delayed rain in St. Louis.
Now that can be a lifesaver too! Get it while you can, my friend.
October 29th, 20111:21 am
tom, you ever feel just a touch more discerning?
Ward – everyone should remember a Texas BP that blew multiple leads in Game 6.
Yunel's Frosted Tips
October 29th, 20111:22 am
Was pulling for Texas……glad it’s over though……….both teams wore me out going through the bullpen like somebody elses’ bag of weed……..
October 29th, 20111:23 am
none of the former Braves showed to any real advantage. maybe we can stop having to read all that crap about a 5 year old trade now
October 29th, 20111:24 am
Well if that’s true Tom – and it isn’t, is it? – I still have a Noon kickoff I’m not missing! Have a good one, all!
October 29th, 20111:25 am
tom, could have tnbrian as the sideline reporter?
so we have BAS, WARD on the color.
scoots VS. Moe.
seven letter draw and scoots gets zero vwls.
Tooo be continued.
maybe we can stop having to read all that crap about a 5 year old trade now
October 29th, 20111:27 am
MIBravesFan, I was afraid it was you…
Good luck tomorrow at noon. I’m at 3:30.
October 29th, 20111:29 am
moe, will be in chi. the next couple of mondays.
October 29th, 20111:33 am
With certain things, yes. Just as you are in many ways that others aren’t. I specialize in being able to know the difference between real hair and toupees.
October 29th, 20111:36 am
at least you specialize in something important Tom
October 29th, 20111:37 am
(correction) Snotboogie and I are at 3:30.
Sorry, Snotboogie (that’s twice I said that, today.)
Isn’t strange how they called the 6,because of rain, and they could’ve played in the rain, and it happened in St. Louis. Can’t give a team credit for donig that, and yes they both agreed, but could’ve have played. It’s funny how it happened when the Rangers had the momentum, and it was in St. Louis.
October 29th, 20111:38 am
I’m still grieving at the loss of Julio Lugo………………
later Braves fans!
October 29th, 20111:43 am
Yes, Cards got hot,and out played everyone, but lost respect for them in The World Series.
October 29th, 20111:44 am
I see our color-commentator has entered the blog.
Ward – how are you at scrabble?
October 29th, 20111:47 am
Cardinals did exactly what I have been preaching happens about half the time. The hot team coming into the playoffs has a good shot at winning it all. 6 of the last 11 have NOT been the best teams in baseball for the year.
Maybe next year we can have our July in September………….
what made you lose respect Ward? Not sure I understand that
October 29th, 20111:49 am
Tony LaRussa,and their arrogance………
October 29th, 20111:51 am
I’m going to focus on the off season now,and finally it’s here…….
October 29th, 20111:56 am
Tom,scrabble is too much spelling, and too much energy. wouldn’t be a good speller.
October 29th, 20111:57 am
wayne, said it.
lugo put a whammmy on us when he got released. . bring in jack wilson the guy that has never scene the post season.
October 29th, 20111:59 am
Thanks, Ward. Good luck with your Giants this week. My boys are on vacation.
uga-brave, you’re right! He’d be perfect!
October 29th, 20112:00 am
lugo put a domicican curse on us.
got us jack wilson. you remember that error.
October 29th, 20112:01 am
SS Pastronicky……..You can bet on it!
October 29th, 20112:02 am
Pastornicky will be at short, and I’m going to make a wild prediction on a signing, and say Wren gets Carlos Quentin too for LF.
October 29th, 20112:04 am
remember jack wilson bobling that ball?
Brave New World
And so 2011 sees the Cards as World Champs – congrats. Phils spend almost twice as much as Braves to play an extra 5 games – big wow! All in all, an exciting year in MLB.
October 29th, 20112:05 am
My dinner bell is ringing – gotta go.
I hope, Big Jake, comes on with more good news.
Good night & good morning, all.
October 29th, 20112:06 am
tom, you and me and BAS would enjoy a 16 ounze PBR.
October 29th, 20112:29 am
May I ask what a color man is. Just curiosity struck me?
October 29th, 20112:41 am
ward, ask murph.
October 29th, 20112:42 am
tom, chime in here. cant do it.
October 29th, 20112:46 am
uga, I enjoy a 16oz PBR often. One of the bars here in Statesboro has 1.50 all day every day.
October 29th, 20112:50 am
jarrd, a tall 16oz pbr. nothing better.
October 29th, 20112:54 am
No disagreement from this corner, uga. That Freese kid sure made a name for himself, huh?
October 29th, 20112:57 am
gotta go jarryd. go dawgs. three points dogs. bet the gators.
October 29th, 20112:59 am
been to jax many times. stay at amelia. at some point we will win, right?
October 29th, 20113:02 am
Adios uga, gotta turn in myself.
Hope nolie is doing well, and hag, and Tom also. cab too and the other regulars. Thank you again DOB for the forum that you provide, I love music, BBQ and Braves and you tie it all into one spot and I am grateful.
Oh yeah, thanks for the CJ bobblehead RG. Return payment in the mail soon.
October 29th, 20113:26 am
I like what I hear about Bethancourt. Hope he continues, and we see him in a couple of years. Keep Mac until Bethancourt is ready…..
October 29th, 20113:30 am
Also if we are deep in Propsects. I think the Braves will be fine.
October 29th, 20113:44 am
I wanted Rangers to win ,because we would hear about how the Cards won it,and came form 10 1/2 games back to take the Wild Card away. Now we can hear about this all year next year. That was my thinking for going with the Rangers too.Tired about hearing how lucky the Cards were, and lets see if they can do it again next year. Different result too. We’ll we will see if it was luck ,or they were just good. We will see next year……
October 29th, 20113:56 am
“I agree with George too, but we all know that N8 is a bit unhinged around the subject of Chipper.”
Nope. You still don’t get it. ZERO problem with Chipper in general. Now, Chipper’s production, his 14 million dollar contract, the odds of him getting worse rather than better, and us needing money to get some help?
THAT I have a problem with. It’s no knock on what he’s done or meant to the organization. Simply what he’ll provide moving forward. Like it or not, he’s not worth 14 million dollars anymore to a team that will barely top out at 90 million in payroll.
As for Mac and Bethancourt? If Bethancourt is truly as gifted as it sounds like he is? The Braves would be silly to not go with him 2-3 years down the road if Mac shows any signs of decline by the time that contract is up.
Are the Braves going to “push” Mac away? Highly unlikely. But since when have the Braves NOT gone with a cheaper, younger (possibly as good – if it comes to that) option, rather than resign a guy that will be around 30 when his deal runs out?
Again. Like it or not. If after the 2013 season if Mac continues on this path, and is about to command 15-20 million on the open market and the Braves can insert a 23 year old into his spot? Why on earth would they not do that?
Seems like it’s a long ways away. So not much point in discussing it. Too many things could happen by then. Bethancourt could be traded. Bethancourt could have a career changing injury. Mac could get injured. Mac could begin to fade, somebody could buy the Braves and be willing to give Mac 20 million per year. Maybe Bethancourt switches positions, etc…..
It’s surely not happening BEFORE the contract runs out. But to act as though the Braves wouldn’t think of it? That’s silly.
October 29th, 20114:06 am
N8: We keep Mac until he declines, and can play no more, and then go with Bethancourt. I heard a rumor that the Phillies could be interested in David Wright.Hope that isn’t true?
October 29th, 20114:24 am
Well, It’s been good, and all have a good one! Even though I rooted for the Rangers. Happy the Cards won for nolie.Best wishes for you nolie. Bet you’ll be glad to get out of the Hospital. Heard the Hospital has bad food……peace…….
October 29th, 20114:34 am
Blaming the season fiasco on one missed Baltimore chop with a very fast runner going to first? Get real N8.
It’s always something negative, and not just the contract like you claim.
Just how it sounds to me anyway.
October 29th, 20114:37 am
about the same today with nolie, not much change from Thursday. He was happy about the Cards winning. He has not been able to watch the games because of the heart trouble so I have DVRed them all for him.
I know he is eager to get back home and watch them and to raise some hell on the blog. Probably give N8 some “what for”
. Maybe next week some time if he picks it back up soon.
October 29th, 20114:45 am
Good night and good luck.
October 29th, 20114:52 am
Hi there boys and girls. Well, another season has come and gone with the Cards being crowned for the 11th time. I congratulate them, their fans, and their organization. I’m really happy for them. I wish it was us, but in all reality, I’m just glad that it wasn’t the Phillies. I’ve noticed that some here really dislike Tony LaRussa and I understand that. But to be honest, I can identify with Tony. He is an arrogant sumbitch and I can be that way too at times, and so can a good many posters on this blog too whether you wanna admit to it or not. The fact is that I see it as human nature to have a measure of arrogance when you are good at something. Tony is like that and he has that right. Holy Jesus, he has made Bobby, Fredi, and a whole lot of team’s managers look bad over the years. And some say that he wants all the attention. Well yeah! If you were managing a team, wouldn’t you want to shield your players from as much unwanted attention as you can? I think that is what he does.
Anyway, the best part of baseball is coming up when everyone thinks the world championship is within grasp if the team can make the right moves. I, however, will try to refrain from getting too giddy this next time around unless some major issues are dealt with, and I don’t think they will be.
October 29th, 20114:58 am
Oh btw, I just celebrated my 55th birthday yesterday and will continue that celebration tonight at the annual Halloween Party at the Celtic tavern in Conyers, Georgia. I will be dressed as Osama Bin Laden, complete with bullet hole in the forehead. So, if any are in the neighborhood, drop in and say hello and we’ll have a drink together. It’ll be a great time.
October 29th, 20115:03 am
Holy Jesus, he has made Bobby, Fredi, and a whole lot of team’s managers look bad over the years…Jerry
really? Bobby beat him in head to head play , and had a much better overall winning %.
October 29th, 20115:04 am
Robert on the Bobby Cox BaseballReference.com page that he pays for
Due to a wiring mix-up during Game 5 of the World Series, the Cardinals bullpen phone was connected not to their dugout and manager Tony LaRussa, but to Bobby Cox’s cell phone. That explains the pitching changes they made
October 29th, 20115:45 am
October 29th, 2011
And where it matters the most, LaRussa has won 3 World Series in 6 trips, and Bobby has 1 in 5 trips. And Bobby had arguably the best starting rotations in history for most of his 14 consecutive division titles as the Brave’s skipper. Face it, LaRussa made more out of his chances than Bobby did.
October 29th, 20115:53 am
That’s your opinion and that’s all it is. Head to head Bobby beat him, that is the closest way you can judge the two. No way did Tony make him look bad like you claimed he did.
October 29th, 20115:56 am
as for World Series wins being the measure of a manager, you must not have been watching all Tony’s screwups this year.
October 29th, 20116:17 am
You are right. In my opinion, LaRussa has done better than Bobby. And maybe my saying than LaRussa made Bobby and others “look bad” was a poor choice of words. Bobby made himself look bad all by himself on a number of occasions. I won’t consider head-to-head as a reasonable indicator of who was better because LaRussa did not have those studs in his starting rotation that Bobby did. That wouldn’t be a fair comparison. As for LaRussa’s screwups this year? I think he made up for them in the end, don’t you? He has clearly made his trips to the World Series count for more than Bobby did.
October 29th, 20116:37 am
No I don’t think Tony made up for it in the end. I think the team won in spite of him.
Teams most often win or lose despite their managers.
It’s been quite a while since Bobby had all those studs too that you keep using as an excuse. More than half the time that he played Tony.
and when He did have a run of great pitching he often was saddled with inferior hitting.
October 29th, 20117:02 am
2006 Draft Signing Bonus –
8th round #250, Braves $100,000.00 to RHP Casey Beck.
Padres in the 9th round, #273, $6000.00 to David Freese.
In 2011, Casey Beck pitched 9 innings for the Dunedin (FL) Bluejays (advanced A) where he is pitching along side his brother Chad Beck.
The good news is the Braves also picked Kris Medlen in the 10th round #310 with an $85,000.00 bonus.
Think there have been any David Freese for Jim Edmonds posts on the Sign On San Diego message board? heh heh.
October 29th, 20118:05 am
Missouri vs. Texas A&M, today.
SEC! SEC! SEC???
SEC officials said Friday that the league’s web vendor mistakenly published a news release Thursday night announcing Missouri as the conference’s newest member.
October 29th, 20118:25 am
Big day in college football…..
(Hopefully the DAWGS roll over the gay-turds today and shut those pie holes……)
Need Derek Dooley to pull the upset vs the Lamecocks…..
Clemson has all the weapons on offense, but can the defense produce enough 3 and outs…
On paper this looks like a Clemson win say 35-10….. Something tells me tek plays better tonight in what should be a war ……
Hope nolie is recovering, get well soon.
October 29th, 20118:27 am
And congrads to the ST. LOUIS CARDINALS in a stunning ending in game 6 and a impressive win in game 7………….
They showed the best team won. Braves would not of made the run they did.
October 29th, 20119:03 am
Well, at least the offseason has begun….
October 29th, 20119:34 am
So many feelings about the world series.
1. Can we take solace in the fact that the Braves were beaten by the World champs for 2 years in a row? *My thoughts are no, because if they didn’t choke, I do believe they wouldn’t have gone far in the playoffs.
2. I feel really bad for Texas, it has to be gut wrenching to be 1 strike away from winning it all and fail.
3. I HATE so many of the cardinals. LaRussa is a complete jackass, I hate berkman, furcal, holiday, freese, carpenter, molina…in fact I am not have for 1 single player on that team for winning. They are definitely in my top 5 teams that I do not want to see win
October 29th, 20119:38 am
im happy for berkman. ive always really liked him.
October 29th, 20119:43 am
I like Berkman too, almost as good a switchhitter as Chipper. Actually has better OBP and S%, though he has more difference between left and right than Chipper does.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
