Tom O’Hawke–Without going into too many details. I had reached an agreement with a company. They decided to renege on it. Then chewed me out as if I was the one causing trouble. Caused really horrible havoc for me. Spent half the day on the phone with board chair and treasurer, as well as my lawyer. Will probably have to go down to DC to meet with another of my lawyers.

moe – well that makes sense…if I screw something up but yell and go on the offensive it becomes much more difficult for you to come after me while you are protecting yourself.
By the time the truth comes out it won’t matter anymore (or will at least matter less).

phil–I can’t think all lawyers are bad. I was on the phone all afternoon with mine. And since I am running a nonprofit. It is all pro bono. Even my much more chichi lawyer at a bigshot DC firm is working pro bono. So I can’t complain.
Sorry to come here and vent. Just had some rough things at work this week. (Some of which the DC lawyer should hopefully be able to address.) Then they exploded today. Two somewhat distinct things but beginning to intersect.
Mea culpa for distracting us from the World Series finale.

I did, too, Efrim. I take little comfort in the thought that the kids they got from the Braves in the Tex trade didn’t work out so well for the Rangers in this WS (at least not Feliz and Harrison). This was a tough WS to deal with. I’m just happy it’s over and the “hot stove” can start!

Yeah, it’s funny to think about how far they were out of it. That, and an 83 win regular season spun into a World Title in 2006. Simply incredible.
We can’t catch a friggin break the last decade. Braves lose 3 consecutive Game 5’s followed by a classic 18 inning Game 4 loss. Oh well.
I feel bad for the Rangers. Probably were favored both years and just couldn’t get the job done.

Tony LaRussa…what a managing job. I mean his starters went 3 innings each game and somehow he pulled the right strings night after night with the bullpen and the lineup and got the city of St Louis another championship.
Congrats to Berkman, Freese, Pujols, etc. A bunch of classy guys that just didn’t give up.

Beginning Aug. 25, Cardinals finished 34-16 and won 12 of 13 series, inc. all three series vs. MIL, both series series vs. PHI, and one series apiece against ATL (sweep) and TEX. Their only series loss in that span was a 1-2 series vs. CIN Sept. 2-4.
Yes, they are deserved champions.

It was with 32 left, I believe. I remember sitting there just thinking to myself, “geez, we’d pretty much have to go 12-20 to miss out on this thing”. Just simply incredible.
Also, I have not been happy with a World Series champion since the 2005 Chicago White Sox. Ugh…Giants and Cardinals back to back. Awful.

ESPN’s Buster Olney says that changes to the draft system being discussed during Collective Bargaining Agreement talks involve a draft tax (Twitter links). It would work similar to the luxury tax, forcing teams to pay if they spend over a certain amount. There is also talk about giving lower revenue clubs additional picks, which some officials perceive to have little value.
Uh, the lower revenue clubs spend more in the draft, Buster. Pirates, Rays and Royals spend just as much as the Yankees and Red Sox. How about giving teams that refuse to spend on the draft additional picks? Braves, Philles, White Sox, Astros….

I’m actually okay with it. I just think we need more consistent production in 2012 from Heyward, Prado and Uggla. But I mean, of course we could use another middle of the order bat. I think the Braves were hoping Heyward was going to be that guy.
