Actually, I think people were annoyed that you came on yesterday spouting really polarizing opinions as if they were fact, and using really strong sarcasm from the very start.
Which is fine. Just expect that kind of reception when doing so. There are plenty of others that have that kind of presence on the blog.

BF80 – If you misinterpreted my comments, let me try to make this a little simpler. We welcome newcomers. All opinions are also welcomed, although you can expect us to respond to what you say, especially if we disagree (that is, after all, the purpose of the forum). It is the tone, not the substance, of some posts that get people upset and defensive/reactive. Most of us react badly to arrogance, abrasiveness, know-it-all attitudes, and people who intentionally “stir the pot, just for the sake of doing so, rather than to carry on a rational discussion of ideas and disagreements.
If you find that offensive, then maybe you should explore a more in-your-face, less civil (simi-offensive jokes aside) forum in which to participate…or you can expect a certain amount of attitude in return.

Martin Prado is 28 today. It’s really sad that his career is about to start to decline.

I believe a ballplayers prime years are ages 27 to 32, so I think MARTIN will snap back and have a good year next season.
George -You must be new or didn’t pay attention. Shaun informed us that a players performance starts to decline at age 30. He “informed” us of this for about six months.
So, Prado has two good seasons left, then he does a Tiger.
DOB – regarding Medlen & super 2 eligibility. Under the current rules I think he is in the middle of the range where it normally falls so could go either way (from what I’ve read expect it to be a higher number than normal so he might not get in)
My question, is there a schedule for this stuff to get announced or is everything up in the air based on the new CBA?

I do not pay any attention to Shauns posts I most times skip them. I look at players records on baseball reference.com.
Hugo Z Hackenbush, October 27th, 2011, 12:14 pm … “I wouldn’t be surprised if another team offers AGon two years guaranteed,”
Given AGone’s age and performance, he should be looking for his last contract. He probably has 1-3 years of declining performance left. I’m sure that some team is going to offer two years at a reasonable salary.
That’s the main reason that I think AGone will not be with the Braves next year, as a two year contract would be mad.
I have a feeling that the day after the WS, FW will let AGon know that they are not interested in negotiating so that he can get to the FA market when it’s totally open.
The Yankees are considering Carlos Beltran as a possible right fielder, according to Wallace Matthews of ESPNNewYork.com. The Yankees have a $10.25MM option for Nick Swisher that they have to make a decision on after the World Series, but they could pick up the option, sign Beltran and trade Swisher.
I’ve always really liked Swisher. $10.25 million is too rich for the Braves, but he’d be a good addition, imo. Yankees would love a player like Martin Prado…..

V. JimApparently the people voting for Sporting News All-Stars are not as bright as the clever people here who constantly remind us how bad McCann is…
I know, right? Those dummies who made out that team must not realize that you’re s’posed to pick out two months of a person’s career—preferably [cruddy] ones—and judge the player based on that…no clue whatsoever, it would appear…
VJ – or they are as biased as Mcfann (or some of both). Any survey result I look at I’m reminded of a water heater survey I heard about.
Survey targeted people who were actively shopping for water heaters and one of the questions listed hot water heater manufacturers and asked them to pick the best quality manufacturer. I believe it was GE that came out ranked #1. The rub was at the time GE didn’t manufacture hot water heaters.
The story could be bogus but the moral for me is not. In general peoples perception of reality sucks. Just because someone is an expert doesn’t mean their opinion doesn’t suck, it may actually be more jaded based on individual bias.
abwright, that was a dumb thing to say, why wouldnt they be serious about competing in 2012 after the worst collapse in recent history? I would say they would be even more determined, and ’serious’ to compete.
Seriously, there must be a decent SS entering his walk year that the Braves could trade for to tide them over until Pastornicky is ready for the job.
I don’t do the “research contract thing,” so I’m not going to look. But, there’s got to be one or two options that fit the Braves needs, and the Braves should have the pieces necessary to get one in a trade.
O.J., October 27th, 2011, 12:45 pm … “abwright, that was a dumb thing to say, …”
Speak for yourself!
O.J., October 27th, 2011, 12:45 pm … “why wouldnt they [the Braves] be serious about competing in 2012 after the worst collapse in recent history?”
The gag was, Jack Wilson has never made it to the playoffs. When the Braves traded for him, before the Collapse was really underway, some folks said, “Well, there go the playoffs in 2011. We’ve got Jack Wilson.”
Turned out to be true.
P.S. There are a bunch worse collapses in the history of baseball than the 2011 Braves, most notably the 2011 Red Sox.
Whatever Frank does this winter, I hope he remains patient. No need to get everything wrapped up before Thanksgiving – as he usually likes to do. Especially with the SS situation. Let’s see if we can get a comp. pick for Alex or bring him back for 3-3.5 million.
DOB, did you DVR or watch the 4th episode of American Horror Story last night? I’ve read some interesting ideas on what they might intend to do in the future with the show as the seasons progress. It’s really pretty brilliant. Is Jessican Lange not perfect for that role or what?
It’s hard to believe that the creators of that show also do Glee (never watched it – and have not interest), but it just seems like two opposite ends of the spectrum. It is however, not surprising that they also are responsible for Nip/Tuck.
So many things to love about that show. The music and opening credits are damn near about as creepy as it gets. I was telling a buddy that Trent Reznor would be creeped out by that music. He was asking me how I would describe the show. The only way I could think was to say it was a cross between the Nicole Kidman movie “The Others” and the Nicolas Cage film “8mm”. With a little bit of Marlilyn Manson/NIN video mixed in.
I have yet to find anything that bothers me about the show. In terms of production, writing, acting, etc…
Clearly EVERYTHING about that show should “bother” any normal person on many levels. Which is what makes it so amazing. It’s like a train wreck you simply can’t walk away from. LOL
I guess I’d rather gamble on a kid than gamble on a 35 year old SS who is fading into the twilight of his career.
If you get a veteran, Gonzalez or whoever, and that guy fails, you already have a backup plan available at AAA. Install Pastornicky and HE fails, you’re at the mercy of whatever the trade market offers at the time.
Given that The Rev has barely had a cup of coffee at AAA, even, it just seems prudent to give him some more ABs down there to determine if he can hit over a little larger sample. If he does and he appears legit, bringing him up later hasn’t cost the team much at all, considering that whatever money is spent on the vet would probably be recouped later by delaying Pastornicky’s arb eligibility.
VJ – my comment (as usual) was only somewhat related to the topic. Survey results are not necessarily the best measue of reality.
Not saying I think Mac was or was not the best NL catcher (frankly I don’t watch enough baseball other than the braves to have an educated opinon on it). Just that a survey is not proof and there is plenty of participant bias involved which might drive an incorrect result.
How many awards did Chipper not get because of the NE Media bias?
Dang, missed you again. I’m gonna’ put up a few more farmhands that I think can project into the upper clubs, and then I quit. Hope the info helped. I’ve been catching your thanx, but it’s not necessary, happy to oblige. Just opinions after all, nothing earth-shaking as I’m not an elected politician or a 99% protester.
Now potential settlement in the European debt crisis, I’ll believe it when the debt to equity ratio in GREECE is under 1 to 1. Right now it’s 1.48 [owed by the government] to 1 and I don’t care how much haircutting goes on in the GRECIAN government, they’re going to be whistling past the graveyard for a l-o-o-o-n-n-n-g time. At least a decade in my book. Now that opinion could be earth-shaking, but BRAVES prospects………..nah!
N8, I agree on American Horror Story. It’s as creepy/scary as anything I can ever recall that was made for TV, cable or otherwise. I love it so far. Hope they can sustain it. And yes, Jessica Lange is perfect in that part. Absolutely.
raleigh – point is all surveys have bias. Similar to selection bias, which typically favors the incumbent unless they have done something very bad.
Again I don’t mean this as a reflection on Mac I really have no idea if he was or was not the best catcher in the NL. I will say I think he was the best catcher in the NL East (I think I watched enough of the performance of those catchers to take that position)
I say give the job to Pastornicky and then just see what happens.
If the kid can’t handle the pressure, go get someone at the trade deadline. — Murph
“And then just see what happens”?
Why would you take such a casual approach to such a critical position? Just hand it to a kid with zero experience at big-league level (unless you consider the last-day emergency callup experience) and not a lot of experience even at the Triple-A level?
I think Pastornicky could be a very good player and the Braves’ long-term answer at shortstop. But I don’t think you just hand the position to an unproven kid who’s still developing, not without a solid fallback plan in place. And getting a shortstop at the trade deadline is not a solid fallback option, in my opinion.
DOB – do you think braves would be willing to sign gonzo to a 2 year deal with the idea of using him off the bench or trading him in 2013 if pastornicky develops?

LOL

Not saying I think Mac was or was not the best NL catcher (frankly I don’t watch enough baseball other than the braves to have an educated opinon on it). Just that a survey is not proof and there is plenty of participant bias involved which might drive an incorrect result.

Again I don’t mean this as a reflection on Mac I really have no idea if he was or was not the best catcher in the NL. I will say I think he was the best catcher in the NL East (I think I watched enough of the performance of those catchers to take that position)
