just read an article on the Sporting News about a porn star (Bibi Jones) who claims she slept with Dan Uggla while “working” for an agent trying to sign more clients. She claims she was never paid to do this, but that players sometimes signed with the agent after sleeping with her, how does Chipper and the Hooters girl sound now?
sorry, it’s a headliner on AOL right now, easy to find there, it’s about a tight end for the Patriots getting into trouble with her and Uggla’s name comes out in her interview…
the question up in the air for me after reading more on this is this: Was the “encounter” with the porn star responsible for Uggla’s divorce. or did the divorce come before the “encounter”?
Yeah, I’m not sure why it’s a big deal at all. Who gives what Uggla does outside of the field as long as it’s legal and not hurting the team/organization – which this is clearly not.
Lincecum is projected to have a 3rd year arbitration number of 19.2 million. Yikes. Can’t wait to see what his 4th year arbitration number is…. I mean, wow. Speaking of windows, I think the Giants have one of 2012-2013 given how dead set Lincecum has always been on going year to year. I suppose they can sign Matt Cain to an extension, as his contract is up after 2012.
richbrave – Thanks again for the update/evaluations.
Big Jake – Thanks for the nolie update…Thoughts and prayers still going out to our friend.
N8 – Many of us believe there were valid reasons for the Chipper contract, and that is still justified. I won’t go through that again now. However, it is what it is (actually, I hate that phrase), so you might as well get over it and move on. Where you could spend the $14M is a moot point.
BF80 – I rarely hear anything about Chipper & Hooters…Especially since his situation is and has been so stable for a long time (at least as far as we know).
What’s the deal with Chipper and a Hooters waitress?
He fathered a kid w/ a Hooters waitress and destroyed his first marriage in the process.
However, to his credit he’s never denied any of this, and seems to have taken responsibility for what was a dumb mistake by a ballplayer in his early 20s. If you’ve ever seen him at a charity event with his family his son is usually right there with his wife and other children, and near as anyone can tell he’s been a pretty good dad.
Chipper’s ancient past is certainly irrelevant to his current situation. It falls squarely into the “who cares” category, as far as I’m concerned.

Isn’t his second wife the Hooters girl? Or did he marry another girl? I don’t keep up with this stuff, nor do I really care. But, I feel that I need to know the back-story of the blog soap opera if I’m going to keep up.
I think they’ll sign him to another extension, but I’d be surprised if it bought out any FA years.
I don’t think they even sign him to a deal. I think he just goes year to year from here on out. They may try and get Cain locked up beyond this year though.
If he signed a two year deal before/during arbitration, doesn’t that negate arbitration from there on out?
Nope. It’s about service time. He is still under club control for 2012 and 2013, but signing him to the previous deal was just about cost control over 2010-2011.
y’all misunderstood, I agree completely, but most of this particular group on here right now are pro-Chipper, but I can assure you there is a pretty hefty Chipper-hater contingent with Sonny Clusters at the lead that like to throw the Hooters stuff out pretty regularly, I just brought up the Dan Uggla thing to point out that a lot of these guys aren’t the nice people we want them to be, that was all I meant by any of it and yes, Chipper seems to be a good husband and father based on what I see these days and as long as what Dan Uggla does off the field has NO AFFECT on his on-field performance, i don’t care either, but what if some of that stuff was going on during his first-half poor hitting performance? What then?
Yeah, that’s what I was thinking…the last few years they’ve had a page on mlb.com with all the awards and the dates they’d be announced, but I’m not finding one of those this year…
I never understood the athlete’s fascination with porn stars. If you’re a successful athlete, why not hang out with an attractive woman who doesn’t get nailed by a zillion different guys as her profession?
Of course I might be a little hypocritical…I have had my picture taken with several adult film actresses, and I was, uh, starstruck to say the least. I could see how you could make the leap to wanting to get to know one better.
if Uggla was single at the time, I can’t really say anything at all, if he was married, troubled marriage or no, well, that steps into another area for me, just one husband and father’s opinion…
Medlen can’t be a Super Two – he’s already got almost three years of service time (he came in earlier than Hanson and was not held out long enough to negate his first year)and he missed an entire year of stats to pad his resume. Hanson? Maybe so..
This reminds me of the time Mel Brooks was talking about when a subject like nazis becomes fair game for humor. I guess people who are too close to the subject will never find certain things funny. Given enough time or distance, a lot of questionable stuff becomes funny.
Well, I grew up in a family of comedians… my dad did stand-up, my mom was a clown for Barnum Bailey Circus, my sister was great at impressions wrote several funny parody songs (some called her the female Weird Al)… and then there was me. Not funny at all. Into computers and gadgets. My family shunned me. Their fans mocked me.
So thank you, Mr BravesFanSince80’s, for bringing up painful memories for me. Really cool.
Ease. Murph made the joke about adultery I didn’t. I brought up the idea that if Dan Uggla’s potentially questionable lifestyle led to poor performance this year (kinda sounds like a certain starting pitcher most of us can no longer stand) maybe that’s an issue the team needs to address?
I don’t want Reyes, who will likely be overpaid, but Rollins might be had for 3 or 4 years at $10 million or so. Rollins at 32 would seems to have a few good years in him. — Brave New World
Besides pitching, shortstop is the position the Braves feel they now have the most depth in their minor league system, with Pastornicky and Simmons atop the list. Pastornicky is very close to being ready, and the Braves are quite high on him. So unless they’re going to trade him and then Simmons, too, it wouldn’t make much sense to sign a guy for 3-4 years. They could use a veteran for one more year, maybe less.
There’s this old priest who got sick of all the people in his parish who kept confessing to adultery. One Sunday, in the pulpit, he said, “if I hear one more person confess to adultery, I’ll quit!”
Well, everyone liked him, so they came up with a code word. Someone who had committed adultery would say they had “fallen”. This seemed to satisfy the old priest and things went well, until the priest died at a ripe old age.
About a week after the new priest arrived, he visited the Mayor of the town and seemed very concerned. The priest said, “you have to do something about the sidewalks in town. When people come into the confessional, they keep talking about having fallen.”
The Mayor started to laugh, realizing that no-one had told the new priest about the code word. Before the mayor could explain, the priest shook an accusing finger at the mayor and said, “I don’t know what you’re laughing about, Your wife fell three times this week.”

Medlen can’t be a Super Two – he’s already got almost three years of service time (he came in earlier than Hanson and was not held out long enough to negate his first year)and he missed an entire year of stats to pad his resume. Hanson? Maybe so..

I guess you could go to the repair shop as long as you’re sure you can’t pick up any communicable diseases from the repairman, uh, person.

Considering her line of work I doubt she’s the shy kind, so if you are all that interested in Uggla’s performance, ask her.
