Braves Top 10 from Baseball America will be posted Monday, 10/31. Pretty cool that we’re first this year.
October 26th, 20117:06 pm
Time will tell, scootsie… time will tell.
October 26th, 20117:12 pm
That is pretty cool Efrim. To be that close to the playoffs, and be ranked #1? Good sign of things to come no doubt.
McFann O O o Get Well Soon, Nolie!!
October 26th, 20117:13 pm
Neight Even if Salty was tearing it up, he’d have to be out performing Mac to make it look like a bad add to the trade.
That’d have to be SOME kind of tearing!!…
Glad I wasn’t on the Blog when the Braves still had Salty—things woulda been pretty ugly, I ’spect…
October 26th, 20117:14 pm
Career sub-.500 fifth starter, Murphsie. Left-handed, so he’ll be given every opportunity to win every other start for years, and then add on a couple more years as a middle reliever.
October 26th, 20117:17 pm
Surely was uglier than it should have been. Though not as ugly as it was in the field when the team tried him at 1B.
October 26th, 20117:19 pm
Actually, it’s just listed as NL East being first….
But we’re a Top 5-8 system, so it’s still pretty cool.
October 26th, 20117:22 pm
Hong Chih Kuo is about to have his fifth elbow surgery. Yikes.
October 26th, 20117:23 pm
BOO They called the game. They have played in the rain before in the playoffs, guess they want the WS to run into NOV. LOL
October 26th, 20117:26 pm
BOO They called the game. They have played in the rain before in the playoffs,
I hear you, George. I was hoping it would snow.
October 26th, 20117:27 pm
That makes more sense Efrim. I knew we weren’t that high last year, and was wondering why such a big jump. I assume KC is still up near the top?
October 26th, 20117:29 pm
Both first basemen MAURO ‘45′ GOMEZ [.304 BA - AAA] and ERNESTO MEJIA [.297 BA - AA] looked good in their respective league’s last season, and moved up my list of promising farmhands. However, I have been disappointed in both of their efforts so far in fall ball. GOMEZ has been removed from the starting line-up and as of last night has not returned. Of course, if there is an injury I probably wouldn’t know it unless I read the DOMINICAN or VENEZUELAN newspapers, which I normally don’t. MEJIA is back in the line-up and is drawing far more walks than before his removal. Told to be more patient and less aggressive at the plate I suppose. I’m less gung-ho on these two at this point than I have been in the recent past.
At 27, I’m afraid ’45’s shelf-life is too short to be more than a good AAAA player.
The 6′5″ 245 Venezuelan MEJIA is 26 and probably a full year or two from being anywhere near productive in ATLANTA. But his 26 HR, 37 doubles, and 99 RBI in less than 500 AB’s is impressive.
Starter ZEKE SPRUILL [3-2, 3.20 ERA, 1.38 WHIP] was ordinary after his promotion to AA from the HILLCATS. Still, most observers peg the lanky 22 year-old switch-hitting right-hander with prospect potential. This year he will probably be promo’d mid-season if he gains some traction in AA. His numbers in A+ warrented the move up the ladder. 7-9, 3.12 ERA, 1.01 WHIP in 129.2 IP.
I do expect rookie RP MARK LAMM [1-2, 1 SV, 2 Hld, 3.14 ERA, 1.13 WHIP] to arrive in PEARL RIVER sometime during the 2012 campaign. The BRAVES pushed the tall 23 year-old righty to the limit last season and he responded well enough at LYNCHBURG to merit a promo somewhere along the line. How close is he to being ML ready as a reliefer? I’d say two and one-half seasons without laying eyes on him myself.
October 26th, 20117:35 pm
Wishing the best for NOLIE, hope we here more from BIG JAKE later tonight or early AM.
October 26th, 20117:40 pm
Ha! I cann only imagine…and it didn’t help that some of BMac’s numbers were down from his fantastic 2006 season…
Though not as ugly as it was in the field when the team tried him at 1B.
What are you talking about? I thought part of being a catcher was that you could be stuck at 1B at any given time in your career…
Tampa will be #1. Toronto #2. After that, it’s kind of up in the air. Kansas City, Arizona, Washington, San Diego, Atlanta, Texas, LAA, St. Louis. I guess that’d be my top ten in no particular order. Just Tampa and Toronto are definitely 1 and 2.
October 26th, 20117:42 pm
Liked DOBs comments on WREN.
October 26th, 20117:45 pm
Outta here to see what is on TV tonight if anything good that is. Of course AHS is mew tonight on FX that is a must see.
October 26th, 20117:48 pm
But now, here we are 4 years after that trade and scrounging to find a servicable SS that can kind of hit.
It is because of this fact and current need, that the Andrus part of that trade is the hardest to swallow. Not because he’s the best player that we let go. I think Feliz is clearly the “one that got away” in that trade. @N8
and the GM at the time of the trade was supposed to be able to know that would happen?
Hind sight is a great thing, but it has nothing to do with what was happening when the trade was made.
October 26th, 20117:49 pm
‘……..The Braves could do worse, no doubt. But if they had that 14 million to spend, they could do a lot better……..’
You couldn’t have made a better case if you had tried for my surmising that BRAVES management will see that CHIPPER does not appear in more than 122 games this upcoming season whether he says he can or not. He played on one leg part of the season to get in 127 games because the 2013 option would have gone a-glimmerin’ if he had not.
October 26th, 20117:50 pm
I was counting on baseball tonight, oh well. Have a good one or two tonight y’all.
October 26th, 20117:52 pm
That’s my take on CHIPPER and 2011 anyway, not that I know anything about the particulars.
October 26th, 20117:55 pm
I actually think Harrison is going to be the guy that, 10 years from now, people look back and feel like they were punched in the gut. He’s only 25 and seemed to really start to put things together this season.
That will be a big surprise, and sure was not considered that way at all at the time of the trade.
October 26th, 20117:56 pm
you do know that would be a contract violation that would cause the union to go to court, right richbrave?
October 26th, 20117:57 pm
that should be could cause instead of would cause.
October 26th, 20118:00 pm
Man just saw the stuff about Nolie….. Best wishes hope he gets well
I’m a regular here during the season. But, unitl the hot stove starts up, I rarely come here in the offseason.
Now I hear about noliee. Wow.
He is my prayers from hence forth.
Don’t always agree with him, but he is part of the blog family and knows his baseball.
Can’t wait to have him back.
Give us an update Big Jake when you can.
October 26th, 20118:01 pm
SURPRISE SAGURROS fall to league leading SALT RIVER 2-6 today. And there is a disquiting line in the box score
C CHRISTIAN BETHANCOURT [.333 BA] started the game but came out with an injured hand on a wild-pitch play at the plate in the top of the first. This is NOT good news!
And 1B JOE TERDS [.417 BA] went hitless in four with two K’s. This game just SUX!!!!!!
October 26th, 20118:02 pm
October 26th, 2011
O.K. just sayin’.
October 26th, 20118:05 pm
you might be right rich, but it couldn’t be too blatant like if he stayed healthy most of the year and hit ok.
October 26th, 20118:25 pm
Where did everybody go?
I don’t usually like posting CAC articles here, but I thought this was an interesting ready – especially since there just ain’t much out yet on Braves offseason plans….since the offseason hasn’t even started yet – damn rain in Missouri. Anyway:
October 26th, 20118:44 pm
I’m a lot more torked off about CHRISTIAN BETHANCOURT’s hand injury tonight than whether CHIPPER vests his option for 2013 believe me. I’ll take 18 HR’s and a .270’s BA from a six-seven hitter who can plug in the three slot in a pinch.
October 26th, 20118:58 pm
Menace II Society on cable right now. The censor people should get plenty of overtime making that movie cable ready.
October 26th, 20119:08 pm
BOO-O-O-O-O, MENACE II !!!!!!!!!!!!
October 26th, 20119:33 pm
October 26th, 20119:37 pm
I’m lurking. Got distracted by wine and Orlando Bloom…
October 26th, 20119:41 pm
O.K. CAB, ORLANDO BLOOM then. No relation to BLOOM BROS furniture I asume.?
October 26th, 20119:42 pm
wow room cleared out…
October 26th, 20119:43 pm
Doubtful, unless they happen to be beautiful British actors…
Nolie hope you get well soon .. You in my prayers
October 26th, 20119:44 pm
hang on I gotta make some coffee and cut a slice of pumpkin bread…but don’t go newhere
October 26th, 20119:45 pm
Checked out the Fall Ball International scene, but nothing is complete yet. Later CAB. Tell VJ that I’m sorry to see GRAHAM is injured again.
CORP continues to haunt the SPIDERS who amass hundreds of yards of offense, but lose a 22-7 lead in the fourth quarter and fall when two PAT’s are missed by the normally reliable kicker.
October 26th, 20119:46 pm
You want Dillon Baxter? He was just kicked off USC’s team…he could probably help you more than Corp…than again, I could probably help you more than Corp
October 26th, 20119:47 pm
You don’t think so?? Have you seen The Lord of the Rings?
October 26th, 20119:48 pm
So McFANN, ORLANDO is NOT beautiful?
October 26th, 20119:49 pm
Ehh, what would McFann know? She’s a freaking CHILD!
ok I’m back…I wish I could understand spanish…the announcers on the soccer game sound like they are having a good time
October 26th, 20119:50 pm
Buenos noches, tigre! Bienvenidos a el blog..
No CORP’s fine. It just seems a lot of injuries, and a general malaise has fallen over the team these past two seasons.
be nice cab…
October 26th, 20119:51 pm
Nah,McFann admitted to being a 45 year old man the other day. Prisoner too,I believe.
No CORP’s fine.
That might be the first time I have ever heard someone say that about him…
Yeah, bones and nachos el tigre
I got pumpkin bread not nachos what are you talking about?
Besides, Dillon Baxter is actually good
October 26th, 20119:52 pm
come on! Your lack of Spanish knowledge can’t be that bad!
cabravesfan Have you seen The Lord of the Rings?
No…… But I saw the first Pirates of the Caribbean!…
what would McFann know? She’s a freaking CHILD!
Hey, I beg your freaking pardon? I am not! I have a learner’s permit!…
October 26th, 20119:53 pm
I think it means good evening tiger welcome to the blog…but remember I’m not from La not LA
October 26th, 20119:54 pm
richbrave So McFANN, ORLANDO is NOT beautiful?
I dunno…he’s not bad…Not in my Top Ten, though…
CB Prisoner too,I believe.
Right. That’s why I go as “McFann”—naturally you don’t give your right name in a case like that…
October 26th, 20119:55 pm
Orlando Bloom is beautiful.
And you can get a learner’s permit when you are 15. Which would make you young enough, technically, to be my child. Which is beyond freaky. (of course, I’d have to have given birth at 17 to have a 15 year old kid…)
mcfann – as long as you realize it is a learners permit…I’ve been driving for 26 years and in atlanta every day I learn a little bit more about how idiotic the drivers are
October 26th, 20119:56 pm
cab – ur math is off you would have had to given birth at 13 to have a 15 year old right
El tigre dos nueve siete
October 26th, 20119:57 pm
Bonsoir tigre, bienvenue au blog
October 26th, 20119:58 pm
I’m not to the point where I have to start shaving years off my real age yet…give it a few years (besides, some folks here know how old VJ is and I don’t want the age gap to seem even bigger than it actually is )
que je peux obtenir avec cab
October 26th, 201110:00 pm
i can count rich…teaching the little one to count in spanish – although I have difficulty past 21
October 26th, 201110:02 pm
Gotta’ go. English is my first foreign language. Progressing to Spanish which I tolerate married to a Cuban, and French which took me to the woodshed forthy-seven years ago is more than I can stand tonight. NYTOL
au revoir, rich!
October 26th, 201110:03 pm
Bay Area Steve
I’m sorry, but McFann is nineteen, and was speakin’ Ebonics the other day. Innocence lost; all that. The blog has worn down even the strongest among us.
Orlando Bloom is more than likely on her wall, is what I’m sayin’…
cab – you know me and punctuation…shoulda been a comma before your name of coure
October 26th, 201110:04 pm
Because that would have made it sound better?
October 26th, 201110:05 pm
Lucky for you VJ doesn’t read french
October 26th, 201110:09 pm
I’ll never forget my great aunt/uncle where cajun french and when they fought when I as there they would speak french. I had learned a bit of french (and they didn’t know it). My uncle and I had gone fishing in my truck and he didn’t tell her we were going and she was worried. We walked in the door and laid into him and about 45 seconds into the rant I almost fell down laughing.
In french she asked me if the little city prick had learned french – when I said oui her anger immediately shifted.
Hey, I never said he was ugly…
Oh, I’m older than 15—was older than that when I got my learner’s, as well—in fact I just renewed the dang thing, and I hadn’t even ever driven with the first one…
Bay Area Steve I’m sorry, but McFann is nineteen
was speakin’ Ebonics the other day.
I don’t even know what that means! How could I be speaking it?…
And the only bloom on my wall is the photos of flowers with my butterflies on them!
October 26th, 201110:10 pm
tiger I’ve been driving for 26 years and in atlanta every day I learn a little bit more about how idiotic the drivers are
Haha! They are LUNATICS, I tell you!…
oops left out ce :S
October 26th, 201110:11 pm
I know you are older than that…and I know you are not going to tell us how old you actually are. But you are not forgiven for saying “ewww” about Orlando Bloom.
October 26th, 201110:13 pm
we will be able to tell when she starts complaining about class – the subject should get us close
October 26th, 201110:15 pm
Sometimes N8, I wonder if you j just like to type.
Efrim: I thought he might end up starting instead of Heyward vs. RHP.
Eeesh, that’s a bad platoon. Heyward’s only redeeming split is hitting RHP. Might as well just send Heyward down and stall his arb clock.
Efrim: Isn’t the goal to get more outfield production from RF? Heisey did better than Heyward in 2011. He even did better than Prado.
Excellent bar to set right there. So basically anyone not named Rick Ankiel is a target? My sites are a tad bit higher. I was under the impression the team wanted more offensive production, not marginal offensive production.
Efrim: He’s never said something and not addressed it. Even with Garrett Anderson.
: ) Excellent example for why Wren was actually saying that Heyward has the starting job and they are trading the pitching.
Ahhhh, this is shaping up to be a fine off-season even though there are so few open positions. I’m looking forward to it.
I don’t know- she strikes me as one that would like school…
October 26th, 201110:18 pm
I know but we normally hear about…can’t blog I have algebra homework or whatever
October 26th, 201110:19 pm
I was only teasing!! And I didn’t put that many w’s…was all lowercase with only one w!…
I’ve pretty much always played the roll of “Just say ‘ew’ to whoever the other girls think is a cutey”—not sure why, it just seemed to be my thing…give ‘em [crud]…
Just so happened you were the first person I’ve ever “hung out with” that I cann share affection of someone (BMac) with…
October 26th, 201110:20 pm
cabravesfan I don’t know- she strikes me as one that would like school…
I not really into reading, does that count…?
October 26th, 201110:22 pm
But, scootsie ruled, and nineteen is acceptable for anything greater than eighteen and a half…
And, your post, in its entirety: “‘Sup, yo?…”
October 26th, 201110:24 pm
The E was capitalized.
October 26th, 201110:25 pm
“I not really into reading…”
Maybe you ought to be? Just a thought. Better than drinking, at least…
October 26th, 201110:26 pm
so I guess mcfann obviously wouldn’t be into me
Better than drinking, at least…
Or you can just combine the 2 and drink while you read…or read while you drink…
October 26th, 201110:27 pm
I thought you were going to fly out here and challenge VJ to a cage match…
aside from the age gap
Nothing wrong with age gaps…
October 26th, 201110:31 pm
cab – I’ve never met you and I’m sure he loves you and you are absolutely worth a knock down drag out fight. However, physical confrontation for the sake of a woman has never been my thing. Too many other fish or some such statement.
Besides I can explain a trip to california to the other 1/2…a black eye not so much
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
