Braves Top 10 from Baseball America will be posted Monday, 10/31. Pretty cool that we’re first this year.

That is pretty cool Efrim. To be that close to the playoffs, and be ranked #1? Good sign of things to come no doubt.

Neight Even if Salty was tearing it up, he’d have to be out performing Mac to make it look like a bad add to the trade.

That’d have to be SOME kind of tearing!!… :P

Glad I wasn’t on the Blog when the Braves still had Salty—things woulda been pretty ugly, I ’spect…

Career sub-.500 fifth starter, Murphsie. Left-handed, so he’ll be given every opportunity to win every other start for years, and then add on a couple more years as a middle reliever. :-)

Surely was uglier than it should have been. Though not as ugly as it was in the field when the team tried him at 1B.

Actually, it’s just listed as NL East being first….

But we’re a Top 5-8 system, so it’s still pretty cool.

That makes more sense Efrim. I knew we weren’t that high last year, and was wondering why such a big jump. I assume KC is still up near the top?

raleighbravefan:

Both first basemen MAURO ‘45′ GOMEZ [.304 BA - AAA] and ERNESTO MEJIA [.297 BA - AA] looked good in their respective league’s last season, and moved up my list of promising farmhands. However, I have been disappointed in both of their efforts so far in fall ball. GOMEZ has been removed from the starting line-up and as of last night has not returned. Of course, if there is an injury I probably wouldn’t know it unless I read the DOMINICAN or VENEZUELAN newspapers, which I normally don’t. MEJIA is back in the line-up and is drawing far more walks than before his removal. Told to be more patient and less aggressive at the plate I suppose. I’m less gung-ho on these two at this point than I have been in the recent past.

At 27, I’m afraid ’45’s shelf-life is too short to be more than a good AAAA player.

The 6′5″ 245 Venezuelan MEJIA is 26 and probably a full year or two from being anywhere near productive in ATLANTA. But his 26 HR, 37 doubles, and 99 RBI in less than 500 AB’s is impressive.

Starter ZEKE SPRUILL [3-2, 3.20 ERA, 1.38 WHIP] was ordinary after his promotion to AA from the HILLCATS. Still, most observers peg the lanky 22 year-old switch-hitting right-hander with prospect potential. This year he will probably be promo’d mid-season if he gains some traction in AA. His numbers in A+ warrented the move up the ladder. 7-9, 3.12 ERA, 1.01 WHIP in 129.2 IP.

I do expect rookie RP MARK LAMM [1-2, 1 SV, 2 Hld, 3.14 ERA, 1.13 WHIP] to arrive in PEARL RIVER sometime during the 2012 campaign. The BRAVES pushed the tall 23 year-old righty to the limit last season and he responded well enough at LYNCHBURG to merit a promo somewhere along the line. How close is he to being ML ready as a reliefer? I’d say two and one-half seasons without laying eyes on him myself.

Ha! I cann only imagine…and it didn’t help that some of BMac’s numbers were down from his fantastic 2006 season…

Though not as ugly as it was in the field when the team tried him at 1B.

What are you talking about? I thought part of being a catcher was that you could be stuck at 1B at any given time in your career… ;)

Tampa will be #1. Toronto #2. After that, it’s kind of up in the air. Kansas City, Arizona, Washington, San Diego, Atlanta, Texas, LAA, St. Louis. I guess that’d be my top ten in no particular order. Just Tampa and Toronto are definitely 1 and 2.

But now, here we are 4 years after that trade and scrounging to find a servicable SS that can kind of hit.

It is because of this fact and current need, that the Andrus part of that trade is the hardest to swallow. Not because he’s the best player that we let go. I think Feliz is clearly the “one that got away” in that trade. @N8

and the GM at the time of the trade was supposed to be able to know that would happen?
Hind sight is a great thing, but it has nothing to do with what was happening when the trade was made.

‘……..The Braves could do worse, no doubt. But if they had that 14 million to spend, they could do a lot better……..’

You couldn’t have made a better case if you had tried for my surmising that BRAVES management will see that CHIPPER does not appear in more than 122 games this upcoming season whether he says he can or not. He played on one leg part of the season to get in 127 games because the 2013 option would have gone a-glimmerin’ if he had not.

I actually think Harrison is going to be the guy that, 10 years from now, people look back and feel like they were punched in the gut. He’s only 25 and seemed to really start to put things together this season.

That will be a big surprise, and sure was not considered that way at all at the time of the trade.

ARIZONA

SURPRISE SAGURROS fall to league leading SALT RIVER 2-6 today. And there is a disquiting line in the box score

C CHRISTIAN BETHANCOURT [.333 BA] started the game but came out with an injured hand on a wild-pitch play at the plate in the top of the first. This is NOT good news!

And 1B JOE TERDS [.417 BA] went hitless in four with two K’s. This game just SUX!!!!!!

I’m a lot more torked off about CHRISTIAN BETHANCOURT’s hand injury tonight than whether CHIPPER vests his option for 2013 believe me. I’ll take 18 HR’s and a .270’s BA from a six-seven hitter who can plug in the three slot in a pinch.

CORP continues to haunt the SPIDERS who amass hundreds of yards of offense, but lose a 22-7 lead in the fourth quarter and fall when two PAT’s are missed by the normally reliable kicker.

Sometimes N8, I wonder if you j just like to type.

Efrim: I thought he might end up starting instead of Heyward vs. RHP.
Eeesh, that’s a bad platoon. Heyward’s only redeeming split is hitting RHP. Might as well just send Heyward down and stall his arb clock.

Efrim: Isn’t the goal to get more outfield production from RF? Heisey did better than Heyward in 2011. He even did better than Prado.
Excellent bar to set right there. So basically anyone not named Rick Ankiel is a target? My sites are a tad bit higher. I was under the impression the team wanted more offensive production, not marginal offensive production.

Efrim: He’s never said something and not addressed it. Even with Garrett Anderson.

: ) Excellent example for why Wren was actually saying that Heyward has the starting job and they are trading the pitching.

Ahhhh, this is shaping up to be a fine off-season even though there are so few open positions. I’m looking forward to it.
