October 18th, 20112:21 am
Hello everyone! What’s up!!!!!!!!!
October 18th, 20112:25 am
I listened to DOB’s Video, on Whats next for the Braves?,and I think Wren will get us an out fielder that will play the corners again, and look at the SS issue. I wouldn’t be surprised if Pastornicky got the job…..
October 18th, 20112:28 am
I think Wren will get a Scutaro for back up,and I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Braves get Quentin. Make sense to me….
October 18th, 20113:16 am
Did anyone see that Jet player run right over the Ref? That’s what yo call steam plowed…….LOL
October 18th, 20113:47 am
“If Fredi is still going to pull starters at five, he’s gonna have to ask Frankie-boy to do a HELLUVA LOT better than a George Sherrill and Scott Linebrink!”
It’s really a viscious circle that never really ended.
Starting pitchers weren’t efficient with their pitches. Thus they needed to be pulled after 5-6 innings too often.
Then on nights when they could have gone longer, due to the offense sucking, the pitchers needed to be PH for when there was run-scoring opportunities in the middle innings.
Kimbre, Venters and O’Flaherty suffered either way, because nobody else was reliable in the pen.
Due to those 3 factors happening (one or the other, sometimes two of them, and even sometimes all three of them), our “big-3″ in the pen were ridden hard and by the time August ended, they were gassed.
Saving the big 3 can be solved only if at least 2 of those things are resolved. As you stated though, simply finding 2 other reliable options in the pen could diminish the need to use them every night.
I look for the young pitchers in the rotation to step up and use fewer pitches. I look for Wren to find another bat, and the holdovers to provide more offense early in games (simply having Bourn all year should help early in the season), and I look for Medlen, Varvaro and maybe even Vizcaino to be the “better option” arms down in the pen.
Somehow gotta fix most of that or not only will the big-3 be gassed again at the end of next year, we might be looking at some serious arm troubles for a guy like Venters going into 2013. Dude has been WAY overused the past two years.
October 18th, 20114:15 am
Linebrink-gone, Agon-gone Sherrill-gone,and Moylan-Gone.I see Fredi going with Vizzy bull-pen,and Melden the new comers……Lowe to be traded, or put on waivers. Just don’t see anyone paying that much money. Don’t think Lowe would be worth it in the bull-pen.
October 18th, 20114:21 am
Wouldn’t mind seeing Wren get Mark Delrosa back?
October 18th, 20114:32 am
Also wouldn’t mind Wilson Betimet back. To fill in for Chipper……nolie was right on Betimet. A good solid back up…..
October 18th, 20114:33 am
Well, all just thought of throwing out some things……At least some ideas…..peace my friends…..
October 18th, 20116:23 am
They were looking very bold. I worry about my drive to work in the morning. Think they might be hanging out and waiting for me.
Moe – Do NOT stop at Star Bucks. Taxonomic revolt. (They think Carl Linnaeus and his BCS cronies gave an unfair rank to Homo sapiens and they want a playoff.)
October 18th, 20117:11 am
I like how Ward time was interrupted by a lone N8 comment
October 18th, 20117:43 am
Wouldn’t it be nice to have a braves team that could score runs like the Cardinals and Rangers and not have to worry about having to pitch a shutout every day. Knowing that when you give up that first run that the game is over is a real bummer, however, that is the way its always going to be.
October 18th, 20117:51 am
quick, which is more exciting: the MLB Playoffs almost ending or the possibility of not having a NBA season?

“possibility of not having a NBA season”
That brings a smile to my face.
I’m not only a Braves fan, but a baseball fan. I’m looking forward to the World Series.
Ready for some Hot-Stove action too!
October 18th, 20119:30 am
Derosa has seen the field for very little time the last three years. I’d rather go for some healthier options to strengthen the bench.
October 18th, 20119:32 am
N8 we might be looking at some serious arm troubles for a guy like Venters going into 2013. Dude has been WAY overused the past two years.
im not sure if he has been. 88 innings isnt overuse just because it leads the league.
also, why do you think the big three were “gassed” by the end of august?

October 18th, 20119:54 am

And I prefer a best of 3 than the one game playoff.

I like more baseball. 162 games is fine by me. Less baseball and more rounds of playoffs or more teams in the playoffs stinks, imo.

Oh, a shorter Spring Training would be awesome…
October 18th, 201110:02 am
It’s selfish of me, but I like having a Braves game to look forward to on most nights.
Then they could start the season sooner!
Efrim Less baseball and more rounds of playoffs or more teams in the playoffs stinks, imo.
Yeah. I’m especially not a fan of more teams in the playoffs. I mean, this isn’t the NBA…

‘I don’t think there is much of a difference between the regular season and postseason…..”
You should have pretty much just stopped right there Shaun. Because most here on the blog will be laughing too hard, or have a headache from rollng their eyes to bother reading any further.
Just when I think you can’t possibly get any dumber……
N8, I think you misunderstand or you just quoted one part of one sentence and missed the whole point. You should work for some highly political media outlet.
Obviously there are differences between the postseason and the regular season. But I don’t think the rules of baseball drastically change. I don’t think what wins in the regular season is drastically different from what wins in the postseason.
It’s just that the postseason is obviously fewer games so flukey things and chance play more of a role. And what tends to make a difference are the skills that help eliminate the possibility that flukey things and chance can lead to baserunners and runs. This is why teams that have high-strikeout pitchers and good defenses tend to gain an edge. Although there still are a lot of fluke occurrences and chance that will tend to greatly influence the outcome of games. In a long season a team’s overriding skills and talents will help overtake the influence of such random, flukey occurrences to a larger degree.

N8, October 18th, 2011, 3:47 am … “It’s [it = over-use of the bullpen] really a viscious circle that never really ended.
The Ouroborian problem of bullpen over-use, mostly due to awfensive inconsistency, was also compounded by the bazillion extra inning games (in some cases many extra innings) because the Braves couldn’t score just one more run to win them in regulation.
October 18th, 201110:16 am

October 18th, 201110:18 am
Hey! Maybe I should sponsor Victorino’s page……
October 18th, 201110:19 am
Sponsoring a page depends on number of page views
The prices are roughly set to match an advertising rate of $1.25 per 1,000 page views with a minimum charge of $5. Over 14,000 of the total 18,000 pages are at $5 with another 3,500 at $10. From there it goes up to more than $300/year (or more) for Barry Bonds. I feel getting your name on Sandy Koufax’s page should be reserved for the largest sponsors.
So we should go to that page and keep clicking “Refresh” to drive up the price
October 18th, 201110:20 am
Wren’s off-season to do list …
Find a quality hitting coach and sign him
Find a starting ShortStop and sign him
Get some more dead arms for the bullpen
Wren’s wish list
Trade Lowe (not going to happen, but you can wish)
Sign a starting corner out-fielder (mid-level and inexpensive – pick two of the three who perform)
Sign a back-up 3B to play when Chipper goes down (allowing Prado to play LF exclusively or send Pardo to the bench if he’s not performing at all)
Find a super-utility-guy to improve the bench
October 18th, 201110:21 am
Wren is going to have some difficult decisions to make on a few key players. Mostly, whether or not to extend them. 2012 will be a big part of the equation.

5 dollar… 5 dollar… 5 dollar fooooot loooooong
October 18th, 201110:23 am
Now that’s a good idea. I’ll make the effort to ask people everyday. I wonder if it’s considered a hit every time I visit from the same computer during a day. I bet I could no 5000 in a day easy.
I’m luke-warm on the extra team in the playoffs. I don’t think it will ruin baseball as we know it, but it won’t improve anything either.
I hope they shorten spring training. However, there’s nothing to say that the manager can’t throw the minor leaguers out there for the first 1-2 weeks and let the big league team have an extra week of summer vacation.
So, it’s really a non-issue if the manager wants to make it so.
Efrim 52 million 2014-2017(33)

October 18th, 201110:27 am
Braves will certainly make every effort to retain McCann through his career.
Prado is likely going to be gone a year before FA (if Braves trend continues).
Bourn will be a good fit for the Braves if his contract is not ludicrously over paid.
Braves may or may not extend Hudson; however, his performance in recent years justifies the expense. It would take a Lowe-vian fall off a cliff to make Huddy expendable at the end of his contract.

The weather is way too iffy in March for baseball and you can’t have all of the games in warmer weather cities or they won’t have any home games later in the season. So much for shorter spring training.
You won’t see the owners knocking games off of the schedule, either – way too much loss of revenue and since that’s what all of the expanded payroll talk is for – mo money – they won’t knock anything off of the bottom line.
October 18th, 201110:36 am
Just some numbers
October 18th, 201110:37 am
McFann, I haven’t seen that one. Is it catchy? I’ll look it up… anything is better than this Subway song.
ab, my head injury has healed up pretty well. I’m glad I opted out of getting staples… turns out the superglue stuff they used worked really well. I think there’s a “consumer” version of the magic skin glue available at Walgreens… going to pick some up next time I’m there.
The only real after effect of my injury is everytime I see a donut I start to cry and pee my pants. i’m hoping that goes away really soon. It’s making breakfast at the office very, very awkward.
October 18th, 201110:38 am
Sorry, meant to say – just some numbers I put together and what the players might want during that time period. All those years would potentially be in their decline phase though. We’ll see.
So much for shorter spring training
What if you started it later?
Well the weather in October is a little iffy too. Low of 52 tomorrow night, burr………….. gonna need to find a coat to wear
October 18th, 201110:42 am
Winter comes early to the Sunshine state. I bought some socks last week to get ready.
October 18th, 201110:48 am
jeffrey d- What purpose would that serve if the goal of shortening ST is to finish the season earlier and start the playoffs so the season ends in October and not November?
October 18th, 201110:50 am
Oh, I thought the goal was to shorten boring spring training
October 18th, 201110:51 am
Bat – Thing is that in October, you’re only dealing with a few teams and trying to get games played while in March you have to worry about 15 games getting played because of weather. Big difference between concerns for two or three games. And the weather is generally worse nation wide in March than October.
October 18th, 201110:53 am
Bat – Dude, get over it. Our high temp today is in the mid 50’s.
October 18th, 201110:54 am
Global Warming’ll take care of that
October 18th, 201110:57 am
jeffrey d – We’ll see about Global Warming when it hits minus 36 this winter.
Yeah I know, Lew.
Mostly just BS-ing, though it would be nice if the season could be moved up a week or two. I don’t care for another playoff team, I didn’t like the wild card when it came out, and I don’t like 5 game series either.
October 18th, 201110:59 am
Murph, hang in there.. it will get better. At least you aren’t dreaming about getting chased by donuts, so you aren’t to far gone.
Bat – I’m with you on the no extra playoff team. I’d just as soon do away with interleague play, the DH and go back to a balanced schedule. I just can’t see the need to fix what worked fine to begin with.
October 18th, 201111:02 am

Bat – Yeah – MY wife is in Orlando on a business trip/visit to my son. She’s staying over at Cocoa Beach with the intent of hitting the beach. Doesn’t look like she’s going to get much fun out of it though, with the forecast of low temps and rain.
October 18th, 201111:05 am
Lew, I think we’re suppose to hit a high of 65 today. Had a cold front move through last night, lots of rain, thunder, lightning and wind. We were at 90 yesterday for a high. And they always wonder why we’re sick in this part of the country.

I just ordered a set of wireless headphones for the PS3… official Sony product, simulated surround sound, etc. Can’t wait. Now I can play Grand Theft Auto with mini-Murph in the next room without worrying about her picking up any new words.
October 18th, 201111:08 am

October 18th, 201111:09 am
Yep, gonna be chilly in Cocoa Beach, too. Not likely to slow down the Canadians much though.

October 18th, 201111:23 am
It costs $1.25 per 1000 page views for Robert to sponsor that page…
I’d imagine if each of us posted the link to FB, set it as our home page, and went to it 10 times per day we could at least make it harder for him to go get all-you-can-eat at Sizzler this Friday night.
October 18th, 201111:25 am
I’ll certainly do my part to cost him some bucks.
Ha, post a link saying, click here for a chance to win a new IPhone……………. Do it in Chinese
October 18th, 201111:29 am
Would not be surprised to see the Braves wait to extend McCann’s contract given his recent offensive performance and defensive short comings especially if CHRISTIAN BETHANCOURT continues to progress on both fronts.
Posting links to FB doesn’t work all that well… people are worried about getting hacked. Make sure you add a personal message and then have one of your friends comment on your post. People are way more apt to click on the link once they see that it’s not a hack.

Yeah, just ’cause the dude is hitting well in the AFL doesn’t mean he’s ready. And anyway, did he just turn 20 last month? Still young…And I seem to remember reading (as Lew just alluded to) that he doesn’t have much of a bat…
Christian Bethancourt cracked a home run last night and Sean Gilmartin pitched 4 inning of 2 hit ball with 4 strikeouts and no walks in the AFL game last night.

Baidu, here I come …………… billions of hits ………… woo hoo
He hasn’t really hit at the minor league level yet, so let’s hold off on making him the heir apparent to McCann. Also, he’ll play all of next season as a 20 year old in Lynchburg. You could give that kid a full 3-4 more seasons at the minor league level. Maybe he’ll learn to hit in that timeframe.
Ha! Gimpah/Jeff321, where are you now?
