Looks like I owe Bobby’s Cox another apology over this Cruz cat …… I’m about due to be right against Bobby’s one of these days. Given enough time to see how things play out, he’s won every argument against me.
Watching Giulietta Masina and Anthony Quinn in La Strada. What a great film. I like ‘I Vitelloni’ as a Fellini neo-realist film, but ‘La Strada’ is beautiful.
Venice Jim,what do you think the Giants chances are tomorrow? I almost cried after seeing Eli’s wonderful Interception there. I was happy, and than my hear sank……
Ward – since William and Mary won today, I know I’ll have a better weekend than l did last weekend…since the logical part of my brain expects to lose tomorrow, we’ll probably win…
Congratulations to the Texas Rangers on their repeat ALCS championship tonight and general manager John Schuerholz for helping to make it all possible.
Mitchell is so right – without Feliz getting through the 9th inning tonight the Tigers win the Series (and I totally forgot that we added Cruz a a throw in on that trade)…
Kenseth won tonight, Ward. Jimmy Johnson had a major crash, so he was out of the race. Luckily he didn’t get hurt. His crash looked much worse than Earnhardt’s did. You could hear the crash on the other side of the track.
… I’m about due to be right against Bobby’s one of these days. Braveheart
He has had a great post season and he hits well in Texas, but he has a 727 career OPS away from home and it was under 700 this year IIRC. I think we see a case of a guy who is in exactly the right place and I seriously doubt he would put up anywhere near the kinda numbers that he does now if he were in Atlanta.Very similar to all those Coors heroes most of whom were mediocre away from home.
It’s laughable to think of the Braves still being alive at this point in October. It would never happen even if they didn’t blow the wild card and still had a healthy Jair Jurrnens and Tommy Hanson.
If they got anywhere near this far they would just quit out of fear.
I looked at the Braves offensive statistics recently. 2010 to 2011: the Braves fell from 6th in the NL in average to 13, 6th in OPS to 11, 5th in runs scored to 10th, and from 1st in on base percentage to 14th.
But hey, at least we got Dan Uggla. And we’re only payin’ him $62 million.
I remember watching the Rangers in June on a Friday night.
They kicked out freaking @$$es and unlike the Braves they didn’t go crosseyed facing a rookie making his first career start.
They did what any half-way respectable team would do, they hit the $#@& out of the ball promptly knocked Delgado out of the game.
The Rangers remind me of the Braves in the early ’90s. The Phillies are clearly of the early to mid-2000s mold although neither are actually as good as the Braves were in either era, which makes it that much worse, having said it.
I’m glad the Cardinals got in over us. They are making these playoffs very interesting to watch (unlike what the boring Braves would have done). Still would like to see the Brewers play Texas. Slugfest Series!!!
Also nice to see all final four teams show emotion on the field. The old Braves fans don’t like that but I love to see when a team shows they care about winning. Hope to see more of that in 2012 from our guys instead of that ho hum attitude we saw this season. BORING.
In the night the Rangers went from bankrupt back to the WS, history was made in Panama. The Dutch national team beat Cuba for the second time in 3 days, to complete an 11-1 campaign to become WCB 2011 champions!! First european team ever. After ousting the Dominicans in the 2009 WBC, the next step for this team ánd for honkbal in Holland.

Would love to have Billy Beane as our GM. He turned down Bostons offer few years back to be their GM but Redsox one their first world series using Beanes philosphy.
We need to incoperate Money Ball theory. 1) DONT SWING AND GET ON BASE.

2) DON’T STEAL BASES TO GET CAUGHT STEALING
Lew: Want your opinion… Wren has mentioned many times how the team is looking to get more athletic/faster with the roster. Last year we saw Bourn brought in and Costanza given tons of playing time.

TommyP – Not so sure that we’ll even see any major changes this year – might be after the coming season when lots more $$$$ come off of the payroll.
Wren has to find a shortstop. NO choice in the matter. Will it be Gonzalez again? Might be, because there really aren’t many better options (hardly anyone out there will equal Alex’s defense) and money is still tight. But Wren also has the ability to pull off good trades without giving up the farm to do it.
I think he’ll also bring in another outfielder to cover corner positions when Martin plays third for Chipper (got to believe his knees aren’t getting better and his playing time will be more limited) and someone who could give Heyward a day off, too – likely a RH hitter.
Bench will change a good bit (IMO). I see them letting Hinske go (no second half production as a Brave) and quite possibly Conrad is history ( really nothing much from himexcept a couple of PH HR). Wren will likely also go for a good defensive infielder that can back up short and second.
I also would like to see him pick up a situational LHRP so they don’t have to bring in JOnny V or EOF as often, but really don’t see much more in the manner of changes this year unless payroll is augmented or they can jettison either/or/both of Lowe and Jurrjens’ salaries and feel comfortable doig so because the young guns are ready for prime time.
IVAN = I’m hanging in pretty well. John seems to be doing pretty well – started taking karate classes again, working on his black belt. Good exercise and helps with his balance after losing his toe.
Total: 62.7 million in 11 players
14 players(estimated minimum salary at 450K) = 6.3 million
69 million total salary in 2013, with estimates for arbitration and minimum salaried players. Meaning they’ll have around 20 million if all arbitration players come back and Hudson/McCann’s options are exercised.
Efrim – and that list doesn’t include the players that will still be pre- arb, like Freeman, Teheran, Delgado, Vizcaino (and likely someone or two I forgot or that aren’t yet on the team like Pastornicky and likely a few others.

Yes, service time accrues, but no stats added to the numbers that would make him part of the top (?) 16%. And if he were super two, wouldn’t that status have been granted LAST winter? He was not held out long enough during his rookie year to give them an extra year (like anson).
TnBrian – Absolutely correct – never heard anyone not liking Hinske, but we have a team that during the two years Hinske has been with the team, faded offensively the second half of the season and he was certainly a perfect example of this trend.
Bobby had one big weapon in ‘10 that Fredi didn’t have and that was a strong bench. How many games did Hinske and Conrad win him that year? How many did they win Fredi this year?
