I love starting the page with a dumb non-informational irrelevant post
October 15th, 201111:53 pm
I must get dinner. But feeling sad. Wanted a Detroit win.
October 16th, 201112:22 am
Trying to avoid the half hour non-comment zone…
Just in time…
October 16th, 201112:23 am
I found you just in time…
October 16th, 201112:24 am
Looks like I owe Bobby’s Cox another apology over this Cruz cat …… I’m about due to be right against Bobby’s one of these days. Given enough time to see how things play out, he’s won every argument against me.
October 16th, 201112:26 am
Just got back from the race. How is everyone doing tonight?
October 16th, 201112:29 am
Trey – the few of us here for whom I can speak are doing well…
October 16th, 201112:32 am
Watching Giulietta Masina and Anthony Quinn in La Strada. What a great film. I like ‘I Vitelloni’ as a Fellini neo-realist film, but ‘La Strada’ is beautiful.
October 16th, 201112:33 am
Glad to hear that, VJ.
Ward High Hopes back
hello my friends!Rangers I think will win the World Series.Wow…………………………
All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.
October 16th, 201112:38 am
“The Walking Dead” ,season two kicks off tomorrow night.
October 16th, 201112:39 am
I’m not gonna hurt ya – I’m just gonna bash your fu***** brains in!
October 16th, 201112:41 am
TnBrian feeling his inner Jack Torrance coming out…
October 16th, 201112:42 am
TnBrian, could you be watching “The Shining”?
October 16th, 201112:43 am
Just finished Homeland, episode 2 – really good, so far…(even if one does not just rate it on less-than-fully-clothed moments)…
October 16th, 201112:46 am
From Jimmy Kimmel:
I am going to KILL the person who told me the new iphone could be used as a bathroom scale!
October 16th, 201112:47 am
Ward – good luck against the Bills tomorrow – my confidence not exactly high right now…
October 16th, 201112:51 am
Venice Jim,what do you think the Giants chances are tomorrow? I almost cried after seeing Eli’s wonderful Interception there. I was happy, and than my hear sank……
October 16th, 201112:52 am
I’ll be at church,so it might be alright to miss part of the disappiontment tomorrow?
October 16th, 201112:53 am
Ward, did you watch the NASCAR race tonight? It was amazing.
October 16th, 201112:54 am
Ward, and you’re not?
Ward – since William and Mary won today, I know I’ll have a better weekend than l did last weekend…since the logical part of my brain expects to lose tomorrow, we’ll probably win…
Congratulations to the Texas Rangers on their repeat ALCS championship tonight and general manager John Schuerholz for helping to make it all possible.
October 16th, 201112:55 am
Trey, missed it with all the Baseball going on. Who won the Race?
October 16th, 201112:56 am
TnBrian, I’ve seen “The Shining”, and don’t care to see it again……
October 16th, 201112:59 am
Mitchel,we could go further by Thanking The Braves,an GM for letting the Cards in too tomorrow too.
Mitchell,that post was a classic…….Very good…….
October 16th, 20111:00 am
Mitchell is so right – without Feliz getting through the 9th inning tonight the Tigers win the Series (and I totally forgot that we added Cruz a a throw in on that trade)…
Kenseth won tonight, Ward. Jimmy Johnson had a major crash, so he was out of the race. Luckily he didn’t get hurt. His crash looked much worse than Earnhardt’s did. You could hear the crash on the other side of the track.
October 16th, 20111:01 am
Ward – no, it was typical Mitchell making nonsense up to make himself feel like he knows what he is talking about…
I mean Jimmie Johnson.
October 16th, 20111:02 am
I’m watching Ghost stories…… Interesting how people can’t see that we are Ghost!
October 16th, 20111:03 am
Not to be confused with Jim E. Johnson…
October 16th, 20111:04 am
Ward, here you go.
Got you guy’s! A little humor…….
October 16th, 20111:05 am
Good night, sweet bloggers, and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest…
October 16th, 20111:06 am
… I’m about due to be right against Bobby’s one of these days. Braveheart
He has had a great post season and he hits well in Texas, but he has a 727 career OPS away from home and it was under 700 this year IIRC. I think we see a case of a guy who is in exactly the right place and I seriously doubt he would put up anywhere near the kinda numbers that he does now if he were in Atlanta.Very similar to all those Coors heroes most of whom were mediocre away from home.
October 16th, 20111:09 am
But of course. How could I forget that?
It’s laughable to think of the Braves still being alive at this point in October. It would never happen even if they didn’t blow the wild card and still had a healthy Jair Jurrnens and Tommy Hanson.
If they got anywhere near this far they would just quit out of fear.
I looked at the Braves offensive statistics recently. 2010 to 2011: the Braves fell from 6th in the NL in average to 13, 6th in OPS to 11, 5th in runs scored to 10th, and from 1st in on base percentage to 14th.
But hey, at least we got Dan Uggla. And we’re only payin’ him $62 million.
A bargain at twice the price.
I say,The Braves should save their money, and Josh Hamilton after next season……
October 16th, 20111:10 am
Prolly forgot it cause we did not include Cruz. he was in the Hudson deal
October 16th, 20111:12 am
C’mon guys we all know that Mitchell is baseball challenged. We should try not to pick on the handicapped.
October 16th, 20111:13 am
Nolie,Josh Hamilton for 2013………
October 16th, 20111:16 am
And how about that suspect defense we were warned about?
Give me a break.
Only 15 errors in 2011. Tied for the most in the majors by a second baseman.
But hey, at least we didn’t have to see another season come to a crashing end on a ball through the second baseman’s legs in the playoffs.
Gotta give him that.
October 16th, 20111:19 am
Josh would be great if we could afford him ward. How much you gonna chip in
October 16th, 20111:20 am
nolie, I bet you’re a real wild and crazy guy, aren’t you?
October 16th, 20111:21 am
a little wild in my youth, but never as crazy as you are Mitchell.
Trey,souds like I missed a good race……
October 16th, 20111:22 am
I’m just a poor man nolie……Can chip in some cookies or candy though…….
October 16th, 20111:23 am
Ward, you missed a really exciting race.
October 16th, 20111:27 am
I remember watching the Rangers in June on a Friday night.
They kicked out freaking @$$es and unlike the Braves they didn’t go crosseyed facing a rookie making his first career start.
They did what any half-way respectable team would do, they hit the $#@& out of the ball promptly knocked Delgado out of the game.
The Rangers remind me of the Braves in the early ’90s. The Phillies are clearly of the early to mid-2000s mold although neither are actually as good as the Braves were in either era, which makes it that much worse, having said it.
October 16th, 20111:31 am
they won 2 and lost one at home. How is that anything special?
October 16th, 20111:34 am
All have a good one! Peace………………..
October 16th, 20111:37 am
piece ward !
October 16th, 20111:39 am
October 16th, 20111:42 am
did I miss nolie again?
October 16th, 20111:43 am
Texas is tough.Especially at home. Too much hitting for Detroit’s pitching it seemed.
October 16th, 20111:45 am
I’d be happy with a Texas-St Louis series though I’m not sure the media is going to be all that thrilled
Waffle House or Bust
October 16th, 20111:52 am
I’m glad the Cardinals got in over us. They are making these playoffs very interesting to watch (unlike what the boring Braves would have done). Still would like to see the Brewers play Texas. Slugfest Series!!!
October 16th, 20111:54 am
Also nice to see all final four teams show emotion on the field. The old Braves fans don’t like that but I love to see when a team shows they care about winning. Hope to see more of that in 2012 from our guys instead of that ho hum attitude we saw this season. BORING.
October 16th, 20112:05 am
I saw a lot of celebrations after wins this year.
October 16th, 20112:14 am
Guess that’s it.
Good night and good luck.
October 16th, 20114:02 am
Looks like the place cleared out pretty early tonight
October 16th, 20115:50 am
Braveheart – Nice to see a post. Hope your wife is doing well.
Nice to see McCarron making better decisions with each game. I want to make a bumper sticker that says, “Settle the F Down!” Here’s an article for you, in case you missed it…
…if, you get to come back over from The Dances with Stars blog.
October 16th, 20116:41 am
In the night the Rangers went from bankrupt back to the WS, history was made in Panama. The Dutch national team beat Cuba for the second time in 3 days, to complete an 11-1 campaign to become WCB 2011 champions!! First european team ever. After ousting the Dominicans in the 2009 WBC, the next step for this team ánd for honkbal in Holland.
Check it at http://www.ibaf.org/en/news/2011/10/16/the-netherlands-win-the-ibaf-world-cup/a3afab07-8bb7-4996-b3b9-08ad3a764b96, allthought the website is pretty sad.
Anyway, wanted to share after a beer filled 4 hour rain delay wait from midnight last night, to see them win at 7 am! Best 7 hours of the last couple of years
October 16th, 20117:04 am
That’s almost as exciting as watching female passengers on the Dutch Railway. Have another toast, ladies!
October 16th, 20117:29 am
i think i will have a little french toast with my maple syrup today
if the braves were as hungry as i am
we’d be playing texas next week
October 16th, 20117:33 am
Getting rid of Hinske would be a big mistake. He is exactly the type of leader we need. He also gives up pop from the bench. Braves need to follow the money ball philosphy.
Would love to have Billy Beane as our GM. He turned down Bostons offer few years back to be their GM but Redsox one their first world series using Beanes philosphy.
We need to incoperate Money Ball theory. 1) DONT SWING AND GET ON BASE.
Concept that guys like Gonzalez , Uggla and Prado never understood.
2) DON’T STEAL BASES TO GET CAUGHT STEALING
October 16th, 20117:40 am
somebody is confusing moneyball with sabermetrics
October 16th, 20118:01 am
he wore a a cane and derby hat
they called him bat, bat masterson
October 16th, 20118:55 am
Happens way too often…
October 16th, 20119:25 am
Dang, will spring training never get here?
October 16th, 20119:45 am
veer- Yeah,. Let’s check out how effective HInske is in August and September and then get back to me about why we should keep him-
2010 (Aug.-Sept.) 15-75 (.200)
2911 (Aug.-Sept.) 5-41 (.121)
Combined 20-116 (.167)
Maybe we should keep him and let him go after the All Star break?
October 16th, 201110:17 am
Lew: Want your opinion… Wren has mentioned many times how the team is looking to get more athletic/faster with the roster. Last year we saw Bourn brought in and Costanza given tons of playing time.
What do you think he’ll look to add this offseason in keeping with this change in philosophy?
October 16th, 201110:27 am
DAWGS escape vandy with much needed win..
Gayturds another over-rated flow-rida team (along with crimiNOLIES)…
Don’t worry, UGA pulls down leather panties in 2 weeks, Lamecocks go down to Arkansas, SEC East comes back to where it belongs….
And , cudos to Clemson who did what previous Clemson teams were famous for….
They got up off the carpet after being down by 18 points (on the road I might add) and blew away Maryland ……. They have unbelievable talent.
Oh, don’t let me forget fs crimiNOLIES…….
Huge upset over the “Dukkies”… Yeah, right. PALP, baby…
TommyP – Not so sure that we’ll even see any major changes this year – might be after the coming season when lots more $$$$ come off of the payroll.
Wren has to find a shortstop. NO choice in the matter. Will it be Gonzalez again? Might be, because there really aren’t many better options (hardly anyone out there will equal Alex’s defense) and money is still tight. But Wren also has the ability to pull off good trades without giving up the farm to do it.
I think he’ll also bring in another outfielder to cover corner positions when Martin plays third for Chipper (got to believe his knees aren’t getting better and his playing time will be more limited) and someone who could give Heyward a day off, too – likely a RH hitter.
Bench will change a good bit (IMO). I see them letting Hinske go (no second half production as a Brave) and quite possibly Conrad is history ( really nothing much from himexcept a couple of PH HR). Wren will likely also go for a good defensive infielder that can back up short and second.
I also would like to see him pick up a situational LHRP so they don’t have to bring in JOnny V or EOF as often, but really don’t see much more in the manner of changes this year unless payroll is augmented or they can jettison either/or/both of Lowe and Jurrjens’ salaries and feel comfortable doig so because the young guns are ready for prime time.
In the winter of 2012-13, however………
October 16th, 201110:30 am
Forgot to add that the speed could well be an aspect of what Wren looks at to fill these positions. Not sure what will happen with Constanza.
And, cudos to Clemson who did what previous Clemson teams were famous for NOT doing……..
Sorry, I stand corrected.
October 16th, 201110:31 am
Lew, how you been? How is your son getting along?
October 16th, 201110:37 am
IVAN = I’m hanging in pretty well. John seems to be doing pretty well – started taking karate classes again, working on his black belt. Good exercise and helps with his balance after losing his toe.
October 16th, 201110:47 am
Uggla – 13.2
McCann – 12
Hudson – 9
3rd year arbitration:
Jurrjens – 8.5(est.)
Prado – 6.5(est.)
O’Flaherty – 3.5(est.)
2nd year arbitration:
Medlen – 2(est.)
1st year arbitration:
Heyward – 2.5(est.)
Hanson – 2.5(est.)
Venters – 2(est.)
Martinez – 1(est.)
Total: 62.7 million in 11 players
14 players(estimated minimum salary at 450K) = 6.3 million
69 million total salary in 2013, with estimates for arbitration and minimum salaried players. Meaning they’ll have around 20 million if all arbitration players come back and Hudson/McCann’s options are exercised.
October 16th, 201110:52 am
And I’m not 100% sure if Medlen is Super 2.
Overall though, I’d bet Jurrjens doesn’t see that third year arb number from us.
October 16th, 201110:54 am
Efrim – and that list doesn’t include the players that will still be pre- arb, like Freeman, Teheran, Delgado, Vizcaino (and likely someone or two I forgot or that aren’t yet on the team like Pastornicky and likely a few others.
That twenty mil should add some substantial pieces given the core they will have to work with.
October 16th, 201110:56 am
And, quite possibly, Jurrjens will no longer be here. That adds another substantial amount to the kitty.
I’m really doubting Medlen’s super two status – don’t see how he could be the top whatever percent after missing an entire year.
October 16th, 201110:58 am
Heck, if you really think about it, who knows if Wren would want to pay a 7th inning guy 3.5 million…..
October 16th, 201110:59 am
Service time still accrues I believe….
October 16th, 201111:03 am
Sports updates and predictions…….. by IVAN
Ce n’est pas terrible
October 16th, 201111:10 am
* Tips derby to ncgary *
October 16th, 201111:11 am
Yes, service time accrues, but no stats added to the numbers that would make him part of the top (?) 16%. And if he were super two, wouldn’t that status have been granted LAST winter? He was not held out long enough during his rookie year to give them an extra year (like anson).
October 16th, 201111:16 am
Problem with my observations/predictions ??
Yeah I think everybody likes Hinske, but …
October 16th, 201111:19 am
TnBrian – Absolutely correct – never heard anyone not liking Hinske, but we have a team that during the two years Hinske has been with the team, faded offensively the second half of the season and he was certainly a perfect example of this trend.
October 16th, 201111:24 am
A problem, no, merely my observation/ opinion, IVAN
October 16th, 201111:28 am
Same here, Bat.
October 16th, 201111:31 am
Read between the lines…
I rest my case.
Erect for a d-head that started bs a long time ago .
October 16th, 201111:32 am
And if he is a “cronie” of yours, so be it.
October 16th, 201111:35 am
Bobby had one big weapon in ‘10 that Fredi didn’t have and that was a strong bench. How many games did Hinske and Conrad win him that year? How many did they win Fredi this year?
October 16th, 201111:44 am
So if Texas wins the whole thing,do they send JS a honorary WS ring?
Thanks for the patience. Will throw together a new blog today.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
