On the last day of the regular season, Carpenter pitched a CG shutout to Cards the win that got them to the postseason.
Against the astros, though.
This would rate much higher on the “clutch” scale.

While I admire Philly for honoring the integrity of the game, it was still stupid for them to beat the Braves into submission in the final series, catapulting St. Louis into the play-offs.
Frankly, couldn’t we all pretty much see this coming?

Called it long before the Cards went to philly back in September, they were the one national league team I felt that could knock the phils out. Us making the playoffs would have been better for the phils, instead they eliminated us and in essence eliminated themselves. Welcome to the club philly phans. The trend continues, since adding an ace they have been eliminated a round earlier each year. Hamels remains the only one with a ring.

And it’s not just that they didn’t let the Braves win, they had Utley and Rollins out there in the extra innings on the last day of the season, plus an injured Ryan Howard playing the entire series, only pulled for a pinch runner (IIRC).
Admire the integrity, criticize the “strategy”.

We constantly have been made fun of for making the playoffs so many times to only have 1 world title. Phillies can now be in the class they so much pick on the Braves about. Excpet they have a looooooong way to go before they can be a dynasty winning 14 straight division titles.
They should now see clearer that it’s not as easy as they seemed to think. Losing short playoff series doesn’t necessarily mean the other team is better, just they had a play or here go their way,and things like this. Hopefully this wises those ignorant and arrogant Philly fans. And maybe Rollins will learn to keephis mouth shutfor once, Lee too.

As bas as things may seem in the ATL as a sports fan, at times, how good is it to live in a town where your NBA team would struggle to beat the colleges in your town, your “dream team” has a 100 million dollar quarterback who whines about officiating, drops the ball when tackled, and completes passes to defensive backs when pressured, and, oh by the way, has a 100-plus-million dollar MLB team that their ownership can’t even afford that has once again, gagged on the BIG stage. Perspective baby! I’ll take the ATL anytime.

Philly fans are psychic, them tomahawk chopping while sweeping the braves in September was really just an ode to following in our footsteps. What a tribute, they’re trying to mirror us.
In all seriousness they will not run off the division titles like we did, this division is just going to get tougher and tougher. I’ll settle for 5 or 6 straight division titles and one world series.

For the sake of tidbits . . .
If this were 2013, Carpenter and Huddy would’ve pitched in the “Wild Card play-off” on Thursday or Friday, meaning that if St. Louis had won, then Carpenter only goes once in this series.
Which is exactly why MLB wants an expanded play-off. That, and the money.

The Cards are good, they are on a mission. But the Phillies, by sweeping the Braves in the final three games of the season, helped send the Cards (who dominated the Phils in the regular season) into the post season…………… . the irony of the Phillies now getting tossed out in the first round of the postseason by the Cards is rich. They got their kicks by throwing sand in the face of the Braves, but in the end it backfired on them. They did it to themselves.

This sounds so perverse, but seeing the heart of the Pholding Phils choke yet again in front of their fans is without question more satisfying than if the Braves had backed into the playoffs. I was wrong about the Braves still making the playoffs in 2011, but I was so right when I predicted that the Phils would not make it to the World Series. Halladay pitched a heck of a game, but those bats are just as lame as the Braves (sorry Ryan, looks as if you might be really lame in addition to your hitting – seriously, I hope Howard is not hurt). For years as my Braves piled up division titles the envious Philly fans downplayed it. Well how about some Kharma Philly fans, because you look a lot like the Braves who used to win the division only to exit in the playoffs. Cheer up, you may have yet another year of dominance (in the regular season, of course), but your team is aging, and the Braves are loaded with young pitching. I’d like to say I feel your pain, Philly fans, but I’d be lying!!!!

I like what the Cards did. Did not go crazy spending early in the year or in the offseason, but still got some good crafty veterans like Rhodes, Furcal and Dotel for the last month or so. If we could have gotten one or two extra relievers to ease he workload of Venters and Kimbrel…
