Braves activate Sherrill, Gonzalez returns to lineup

The Braves activated reliever George Sherrill from the disabled list Monday after he showed them he was ready in a side session Monday afternoon. Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez said Sherrill would be available if need be for a hitter or two on Monday night.

The left-handed specialist has been on the DL since Aug. 31 with elbow inflammation. He received a platelet-rich plasma injection in his elbow and shut down for a week. The Braves could use another weapon against left-handed hitters with nine left-handed hitters on the Phillies’ roster and another two switch-hitters.

Shortstop Alex Gonzalez returned to the lineup Monday for the first time since Tuesday in Florida when he strained his right calf. Gonzalez has been one of the Braves’ hottest hitters, going 14-for-30 (.467) with three home runs in his previous eight games.

Man the Braves are f’n pathetic. I am so sick and tired of this useless f’n team. They have a 2-0 lead and they promptly give it up like the crap team they are. Now they look up at the scoreboard and see that the Cardinals are winning their game.

Having a rookie pitching in the most important series of the season is dumb enough, but if they lose this game and don’t make the playoffs, then that useless fat ass Fredi Gonzalez should be fired immediately after the last game. This team is nothing more then overpaid and under performing pieces of crap.

now, now – be nice…it has been a long season with rookie manager and players…they benefit long term from this experience.

Right now defensively and offensively, McCann is the worst player on the field.

This team can screw themselves. As a fan for 25+ years, I am giving up on them. This team has no heart and doesn’t know how to win. I refuse to support a team that doesn’t show any heart. I’m done.

I wish every fan there would get up and walk out on this team. Leave Philly fans only in there and maybe this team would get it that fans are sick and tired of this tired ass routine of theirs. All I know is that I am done with this team. I know they could care less if I quit as a fan, but at least it gives me a good feeling knowing that I quit on a team that all they do good is choke and let their fan base down year after year.

BRAJ,
Could you maybe ramp up the drama a little. I think you’re holding back… anyway, yes the Braves are collapsing. But I think calling them a bunch of heartless losers is a bit much. They just need to beef up the lineup, something they’ll do in the offseason, I’m sure. Still, I think it’s time to unload Heyward and Chipper, and use the cash to bring in new blood and more powerful bats.

BRAJ,
25 years, huh…. so you stuck with them when they were perennial cellar-dwellers, but you’re going to bail b/c they’re going to lose the WC. OK. Makes perfect sense.

The cardinals are about to tie the worthless Braves for the wild card. The cards are fighting back to win a game on the road while the Braves choke away a lead and the game at home. That is the difference between a team with heart and passion like the cardinals and a team that is useless like the Braves. What a bunch of pathetic losers.

Yep 25 years. That was because I was young, now that I can tell the difference between players playing the game to win and players playing the game to collect a check, I don’t want to spend anymore money or time supporting this team. I am tired of the let downs.

I lost confidence in Fredi Gonzalez about 10 useless losses ago. IMO the single biggest reason the Braves are in the spot they’re in is because Fredi G. has not protected leads in games they should have won. He needs to go to keep me interested in this team next year. If he’s back I’ll find something else to do with my time next summer.

you lost confidence in FREDI??!!! how can that be?
Chipper actually stepped up last couple weeks…(bad knee my ass)…BUT…now he’s gone. Wrenn & Fredi…1 more year. Heyward: gone. McCLOUSY gone. Lowe: gone. Parrish: bye. Conrad: thanks gone..take Hinskblimp with you. Wison : what? Dias: liked you but gone. Sherrill : YOU HAVE to be joking! Linebrink: who?? Uggla perform or quit. A few are players: McCann, Freeman, Huddy, Prado, Bourne, Kimbrel, Venters…maybe 3 more.
What a crappy end to a “SHOULDABEEN GREAT” season.

The whole coaching staff should be axed. No heart no fire and certainly no brains. The batters come up and hack away. They don’t work a count. Way way too many men left on base. 1 mind set, hit a homer and if not they are toast.

Fredi gonzalez is the worse manager ever, pulled the kid way too early last night, we were in the fifth inning and tied at 2, that is a pretty good result with lee likely to be pulled in the next inning or so, its not the picthers fault. Why pull him to put in martinez who is very shaky only to give up a triple to the first batter? don’t get it. Then in the 7th he doesn’t pinch hit diaz for a lefty against the righty when we have a ton of lefties on the bench. What was he saving them for? Diaz has proven for the last 6 years he can’t hit righties. Terrible managing.

For some of you numb skulls, I for one am glad the Braves are still in the Wild Card race and actually leading it. I have been a fan, yes a fan, they were my team when they moved to Atlanta and I have enjoyed following them because they have had great players, good players, players that make you laugh at how they play the game, yet they were Atlanta Brave players. either get on the wagon with the team or stay off the wagon that is the Braves wagon. Fair weather fans are like fair weather friends neither is a true fan or friend and cannot be counted on when the chips are down and support is needed. It is not over until the hefty lady sings and she has not even started to warm up by humming yet. I woul,d rather be a Brave fan today than a Cardinal fan because we are in first in the Wild Card race.

Everybody….do you hear that? Do you feel that? Listen closely…it’s the feel of a crisp October evening in Atlanta and the sound of a Tomahawk Chop as we cheer our Braves through the NLDS! Stop bashing and start believing. We still OWN the wildcard lead and the last thing the Braves need right now is for their city and their fans to stop believing in them. CHOP THIS HOUSE!!!

What a joke! How do you have a team in Sept. go 13-18? Simple, rag out your bullpen arms so they can’t pick up the slack. Thanks Freddie way to over manage! Get rid of this clown. Did you see his interview after the game. “We did a lot of good things this year.” What the f#+k are you talking about. Your team just collapsed. Hey Freddie the glass is half empty idiot. Your season is over f#+khead!
And oh hey Derek clean out your locker you batting practice pitcher.

Dear Mr. Wren,

Show the braves fans that you have some cojones and fire Freddie. I know it is his first year, but do we really need to see another year of his mastery at destroying young arms. If you let this numbskull continue as the manager you might as well put the orthopedic surgeons on speed dial because those young arms will need them. Freddie GONEzalez please!
