Don’t know what scoreboard they were watching but the cards didn’t lose.
September 24th, 20115:44 pm
oh no… freddie freeman tipped his cap!
September 24th, 20115:45 pm
funny how much of a difference a day makes, last night i thought we had this. But i am not so sure after our awful performance and the Cards comeback win in the 9th. Nothings easy when you are a Braves fan
September 24th, 20115:46 pm
September 24th, 20115:47 pm
Only speed can spark the offense. Having men on base for Chipper means nothing. I can’t wait to IBB more guys tomorrow.
where did they say that the cardinals lost?
September 24th, 20115:49 pm
when does prado get moved out of the 2 spot again??
put heyward in there
September 24th, 20115:50 pm
Aside from last night’s win, this team looks lifeless offensively. IF they get in, facing the Brewers at home for the first two games is not going to be fun.
September 24th, 20115:51 pm
That’s like the third freebie win the Cardinals have been gifted with in the past week. Three walks and a wild pitch does not a true comeback make.
Braves really need tomorrow’s win against Dettweiler. No telling how the Phils series will go.
C’mon, Braves! Just three wins and the ulcers go away!
September 24th, 20115:53 pm
Heyward in there??? He is terriable right now. You put chip back in the 2 hole and have freeman hit 3rd. And put Prado in the 6th spot.
South Georgia Boy
September 24th, 20115:56 pm
If you have some time to waste, read Freddi Gonzalez’ quotes. They are the most meaningless, useless waste of words one could imagine.
September 24th, 20115:57 pm
braves are 1-6 when jack wilson starts
September 24th, 20116:00 pm
Playoffs this team is the every day the same SUCK. If we cant hit that pitcher who the hell can they hit. We have a DH catching after today you think he was the one thats forty.Same crap every game cant hit 3-2 or 3-1 pitch but other team can hit 0-2. We make playoffs but get beat in 4.
The Braves need to stop tipping their hat to the other guys and start beating their ass
September 24th, 20116:02 pm
heyward is 8-20 with 4 walks in his last 7 games…
September 24th, 20116:04 pm
Guess it’s too much to ask this offense to show up two days in a row.Made the Wanger look like Cy Young.Never seen an offense make the opposing pitchers look so dominant. No matter who he is.Zero confidence they can score enough the next four games to make it in.
September 24th, 20116:07 pm
The CHOKE continues. The offense can only manage to hit one day in a row. Pretty pathetic, but then there are no STEP UP ball players on this team. McCann drove in 2 yesterday, was back to being worthless today, just like the last 33 games. Beachy is like watching Ground Hog Day. Same crap, different day. He just can’t figure out pitching at the Major League level. Not able to figure it out I guess. If he’s the Braves #2, there is no sense in making the wildcard. Beachy always seems to do multiple walks in an inning, and give up 0-2 count base hits. It’s not that tough to figure out, how to pitch 0-2…like they pitch Freddie Freeman…throw off speed stuff, down and away, and Freddie will add another strikeout to his ever growing stats. Obviously Freddie doesn’t get it. Neither does Beachy.
The Cards found a way to win. The Braves never showed up. Pretty sad collection of ball players. When it’s on the line, the Braves will spit it out. They are what they are. If they are still in it by Monday, the Phiilies, who have lost their last 7, will put the Atlanta Losers away, at the Chop House…Fitting that their last gurgle and puke will be in front of the home folks.
Most of Heyward’s hits are infield rollers that he beats out.
September 24th, 20116:11 pm
The ultimate insult Philly knocking us out. That would be a fitting way to end the biggest collapse in team history.
September 24th, 20116:14 pm
The Braves are playing in the playoffs right now. If they don’t win they go home, because the Cardinals are not gonna slow down. Philly is going to play Atlanta to win. They don’t want to go into the postseason on a losing streak. Braves pitchers are keeping it close enough and the bats are what is gonna keep them from grabbing the wildcard unless they wake up.
I’ve discoverred the numbers in the standings won’t change unless you look at them.
September 24th, 20116:16 pm
Fredi is a joke on interviews…and Managing
Freeman, tip your cap to them..BS! Where in he!! did that start from?
Bourn was safe..bad call by ump.
Need to play Constanza..
Next year get a Hitting Coach instead of a wanna be..
Hire Leo back to keep pitcher healthy and productive.
September 24th, 20116:19 pm
and if the phillies knock us out… the cards will return the favor to them in the NLDS
September 24th, 20116:23 pm
I don’t usually complain about the Braves on here but I’m really growing tired of watching the same thing from Beachy every start. Make the adjustment. And Heyward to the 2 hole is ridiculous
September 24th, 20116:24 pm
Braves don’t deserve to go to play-off the way they have played the last month. 10 games behind Phillies.
Cards want it more looks like.
September 24th, 20116:25 pm
J-Hey needs his a@@ back on bench…
September 24th, 20116:27 pm
@Freefalling We’re 1-6 when jack Wilson plays
Really? That’s all you got? Blame the shortstop when the Braves have lost Beachy’s last five starts. Wilson din;t play in all of those. Whose fault was it then? Sheesh.
This team is about as fired up as my sleeping 14 year old dog, Why wasn’t Fredi out there biting that umpire when Bourn was called out but obviously safe? Why has the team not moved a runner from first base instead of swinging hard and popping up that sinker or beating it into the ground? Do they want this? If so they surely don’t show it, sitting on the bench instead of up on the rail involved in every pitch. Fredi doesn’t get fired up, show he supports his players when they’ve been wronged so the players don’t. They looked more like they’re playing out the string than wanting a post season spot with every ounce of their ability. Anyone not wanting it that badly should quickly pack their bags and head home for good.
Fundamental hitting failures, no one trying to break up Wang’s rhythm, nothing except go up, swing for the fence and sit down. Sad, frustrating and unsatisfactory from a team that wants to be champs.
September 24th, 20116:28 pm
If they can’t do anything with Wang on the mound, imagine how they’ll look with Roy or Lee or Cole!
September 24th, 20116:30 pm
agree Merlin..u nailed it!
September 24th, 20116:32 pm
they’ve beaten roy, lee, kershaw, lincecum, cain, bumgarner…. shall i go on??
September 24th, 20116:35 pm
Apart from McCann’s lousy hitting and generally poor defensive skills, how about his lousy
pitch calls and handling of a rookie pitcher.
When Beachy starts walking guys, why isn’t this All-Star catcher out there calming him down.
When Beachy gives up 2-strike hits because of lousy pitch selection (As Simpson pointed out),
where is the catcher? Why 3 fast balls in a row?
Lousy, lousy, lousy.
September 24th, 20116:38 pm
Fire Russ Nixon!
September 24th, 20116:39 pm
Fredi, just about everybody does a good job of keeping us off-balance lately. A two game lead with four to play won’t mean much if this team doesn’t start hitting consistently and have an urgency about winning. I wish somebody would get mad and throw a chair or destroy a table or show us there is a fire in the belly. Come on guys – it’s ours out there for the taking. Grab it and go to the next level!!
wrong decade..say BS
September 24th, 20116:40 pm
It’s wierd what’s been going on with McSlump….
It’s like he’s not even there half the time the way he’s playing both ways…
I’ve quit trying to understand these guys.
It just doesn’t happen consistently, and how we’re even where we are is beyond me.
same BS..sorry about that
September 24th, 20116:50 pm
I think McCann is still suffering some from that oblique. He hasn’t looked the same since that injury. That doesn’t excuse his failure to block those pitches in the dirt better or just take the ball the other way once in a while but it may be part of his pop up strike out problem.
Lifeless Uninspired Braves Lose to Nationals http://bit.ly/nwaPi6
September 24th, 20116:53 pm
They did not draft HEYWARD to be a PUNCH AND JUDY HITTER.
We need home runs and RBI’s………………………….I see some are still on the JHEY COOLAID
September 24th, 20116:58 pm
JHEY LAST 10 GAMES
1 STOLEN BASE
OH…………………………………..And the JHEY FANS say he is putting it all together.
STATS do not lie. He can not hit it out of CINCI, or PHILLIES BAND BOX PARKS.
September 24th, 20117:05 pm
Somebody please take Fredi’s cap away from him, so maybe he can just “tip” his team. Seems to me they need a few “tips”, suggestions, hints, something for crying outloud! I wonder if after the last game of the year when there’s no tomorrow if FG will say “we’ll just have to come out tomorrow and play better”! Wow, he could record all his after game comments and just play them back after each game to the AJC writers. If the writers were smart, they would just use his same comments and change the dates on them. No one would notice!
September 24th, 20117:10 pm
Tomorrow will tell the tale. Win and we are two up with three left
Lose and we could be 1 up with 3 left and Philly chomping at the bit to nail our coffin..they were so sick of the Braves claiming in spring they were gonna win the division…they would salivate to send us packing
TOMORROW IS THE DAY OF RECKONING!!
TAKE THE BULL BY THE HORNS AND DONT GO RUNNING AWAY WITH YOUR TAIL BETWEEN YOUR LEGS!!!
MAKE IT HAPPEN!!
September 24th, 20117:16 pm
Merlin thanks for link..good to see someone (sports writer) tell it like it is.
01Hawk, will said…J-who is a flop..hitting less than Nate was.
September 24th, 20117:19 pm
To hear young Freddie with a future so bright recite that loser tip your cap crap is worrisome.Anyone who thinks the manager that’s a D bag doesn’t start turning his players into D bags look no further than your 2011 Braves.Frank Wren fire up that hot stove asap they guys are finished.
September 24th, 20117:20 pm
Relax, the Braves are in. But it would be nice if Huddy could pitch the opening game of the playoffs. Go Packers.
Oh, if any of you know it alls are looking for a high paying job, I’m looking for those of you who do nothing wrong.
Bill in VA
September 24th, 20117:24 pm
I’m Charlie Manuel & I just realized that I can control who wins the wild card. So I’m thinking, who do I want to face down the road in the playoffs, LaRussa’s Cards, Pujols, et al, or the Braves, with their decimated rotation and recently shaky back end of the bullpen. I’m thinking, we’ve already shown the league that we are on a losing streak, so if we lose 3 to the Bravos no one will notice and, hmmmm, we get to see them again. If we knock them off three straight, or even of 3, we may get to see Pujols & company in the bandbox! My money’s on the Braves to come alive & win that series in Philly!
September 24th, 20117:26 pm
…”or even 2 of 3″ sorry…
September 24th, 20117:30 pm
z-man..Braves are not in yet..don’t count your $$ to quick.
September 24th, 20117:35 pm
This is a team of asses, and McCann is the fattest ass of all…
September 24th, 20117:39 pm
Bill in Va might be right.Pujols,Berkman,Holliday,et al. is much more trouble than old Chipper and a bunch of nobody’s.
September 24th, 20117:42 pm
The chokes of September continue. They made ole Wang look like a Cy Young winner. Why can’t the Braves pitchers bunt the ball?
September 24th, 20117:46 pm
I wonder if any team in the game has had as many blown calls at second base as the Braves this year.
I can understand missing a balls-and-strikes call.
I can understand missing a bang-bang play at first base.
But how in the hell can -so- many umps miss calls at second base?
Let’s win a few.
September 24th, 20117:47 pm
Fredi is doing a bad job of coaching, when will this guy wake up and understand Constanza bring energy to the line up. When Constanza doesn’t play the braves are 8 wins 16 losses.
WOW!!!!!! THE BRAVES IF MAKE PLAYOFFS WILL GET SWEEPT UNLESS CONSTANZA STARTE.
September 24th, 20117:49 pm
we scored a run today but the pitching let us down again
September 24th, 20117:51 pm
Will someone tell McCann he is not a stealer of bases.
September 24th, 20117:52 pm
CHECK THIS OUT THE BRAVES ARE 1 WIN AND 7 LOSS WHEN WILSON STARTS AT SS WOW!!!!!!!!!!!
WILSON IS 5 FOR 24 AT BATTING 22O. AVG
September 24th, 20117:55 pm
O-me, I believe the Braves will win 2 of 4, and that the Cards can not win 5 in a row.
LET ME BE MANAGER AND BRAVES WOULD WIN WORLD SERIES.
1. BOURN CF
2. CONSTANZA LF
3. CHIPPER 3B
4. UGGLA 2B
5. FREEMAN 1B
6. PRADO SS
7. MCCANN CATCHER
8. HEYWARD RF

September 24th, 20117:59 pm
Braves To-Do List for Winter 2011:
1) Get out from under Liberty Media’s yoke and (hopefully) get purchased by a REAL human owner (preferably a local person with ties and interests in Atlanta).
2) Have a Fall Housecleaning; Everyone in a coaching or management position must go! Lose Derek Lowe and use the current surplus of minor league pitching to determine who stays as part of the rotation and who gets dealt for some competent bats.
3) Make Jason Heyward play winter ball, and if that isn’t enough and he hasn’t gotten his act together come next spring, send him down to Gwinnett and leave him there until he IS truly ready (I think the Nationals are going to benefit HUGELY in having not caved in to the hype machine and rushed Bryce Harper to the Majors; Heyward has already lost most of two good years because of the Braves’ refusal to acknowledge their blunder).
September 24th, 20118:07 pm
yeah, sorry but brian mccann is not the best pitch caller.
September 24th, 20118:18 pm
Why does everyone think Constanza is a spark he was for the 12 or so game he got called up but then pitchers figured him out and we see the real 9 year minor league journeyman. Face it we knew it was false hopes all along. We have 2 maybe 3 legit MLB players the rest are AAA starters or bench/role players and our manager/coaching shouldn’t be in charge of an American Legion softball team. I hope they do us all a favor and loose the final 4 and then maybe and this a big maybe I’m praying for that somehow the team gets sold to a real owner not a corporation. This team has no hope until it’s sold and the front office is blown up! No leadership and no accountably.
A TRUE FAN
September 24th, 20118:24 pm
well…..still 2 up from st louis ,,,,,,,, if hudson is ok fredi gonzalez need to send him with 3 rest days to the mound thursday night and beachy too wednesday night ,, and send derek lowe to the bullpen vs phillies series,,
in this way Lowe can start game 1 of nlds because you dont want to burn your best pitcher vs the other team best pitcher, sooo send lowe in game 1 , hudson game 2 , beachy game 3 , minor 4 and hudson again in possible game 5 with normal rest
the cards won today only because marmol is so idiot and not find the strike zone ,, cards are hurt since last game vs mets,,friday only 1 run and today 1 walk run and other with wildpitch ,,,
the braves pitchers doing nice today only the hitters dont hit the ball into the holes it’s all
SO TOMORROW THE BRAVES CATCH THE WIN AND WAIT FOR A CARDS LOSE AND AGAIN UP FOR 3 GAMES WITH ONLY 3 GAMES REMAIN …..
I BELIEVE IN MY TEAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SUPPOURT FANS OK ,,,, WHAT PREFER??? STAY 2 GAMES UP OR 2 GAMES DOWN?????? THINK ABOUT OK
September 24th, 20118:27 pm
How can Braves lose to a team that has nothing to play for ?
September 24th, 20118:28 pm
McCann is not someone who I would have wanted to pitch to.
September 24th, 20119:08 pm
No need to worry Braves fans, This thing is locked up, Braves have huge odds on thier side, Just worry what will happen in first round of play offs.
September 24th, 20119:11 pm
I think we should take up a collection and buy this team 10 tons of Super Glue that will force them to keep their HATS ON, and not be tipping to them to every pitcher in the league. Look up some different cliches, guys. I think there is a little book of 10,000 cliches for every occasion. Use a different one for each loss. Some examples: Just wasn’t our day, Gotta give the other team credit, There are some good players in that other dugout, etc. Hire a cliche consultant (or a hitting coach).
September 24th, 20119:13 pm
Everybody Wang-Chung tonight !!!
September 24th, 20119:15 pm
Interview Larry Parrish, ask him how he breaks hitters slumps ? Like mcCann’s,McLouth’s,Alex Gonzalez’,etc. Inquiring minds wanna know !
September 24th, 20119:18 pm
I think the Cardinals will win the wild card. The Phillies gonna sweep the Braves.
September 24th, 20119:23 pm
heyward need to play winter ball in dominican republic , that league is so competitive, I will preffer to see him with tigres del licey uniform…my team… and about the postseason chances, who cares… IF we make it, we wont win any series anyway…lack of offensive, poor rotations, and a very good corp of veterans, such as crippled jones, under low, seabass at ss, can´t hit prado…don´t forget our bullpen: jhonny “tire” venters, marhitmess,,,I said before almost 4 month ago, GET RID OF D.LOWE SAVE HIS MONNEY AND FIND SOMEBODDY WHO CAN MAKE THE MOST DIFFICULT DUTY THAT THE BRAVES LINEUP CANNOT DO….H.I.T.
September 24th, 20119:24 pm
I don’t agree wins-by-a-link. This is NOT locked up. Cards likely win tomorrow and sweep the Astros. So Braves need two wins in next four to play-off the Cards. Would you bet a nickel on the Braves versus Cards? Winning 3 of next 4 I rate at next to impossible.
I defined the Braves problems in the spring: mediocrity. They are very mediocre hitters for MLB–all except Bourn (not a Brave in the spring), Chipper (whose age does show up from time to time),Freeman(who is still a rookie), and McCann (not himself since his injury). All others are very mediocre hitters, including Uggla who hits many solo HR’s and Heyward, who obviously needed more seasoning in the minors. Prado has reverted to the mean this year after an exceptional 2010; Gonzo and Wilson are worse than mediocre hitters; the bench hitters are terrible. This Braves everyday group requires a major shakeup in the offseason–build around Bourn, Chipper, McCann, and Freeman. I think we are stuck with Uggla. So find an all-star caliber SS. Trade anyone that other teams will take for a SS, a RF, a LF, a backup catcher and some bench help. Trade pitchers: can afford to lose Teheran or Delgado, can afford to lose Minor or Beachy, cannot afford to keep Lowe. I think JJ and Hanson are done. Trade them if anyone wants to take a chance. Acquire a veteran starter to replace Lowe at 1/2 his salary. Keep Hudson. Some imagination required to retool this group. This collapse will hopefuly be a wake-up call.
Oh,and find a manager and pitching coach who will use a staff wisely and not wear out the bullpen; and a hitting coach.
September 24th, 20119:27 pm
It was PENDLESTON FAULT……………………………………….LOL
PRADO…………………………….UTILITY MAN,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Not a starter
JHEY……………………………….Over matched…………………….Needed another season at AAA…..Rushed to soon…………………We need a power hitting outfielder and not a singles doubles hitter that has 8 stolen bases, and does not hit his weight.
GONZO……………………………Should have kept ESCOBAR
CHIPPER………………………….Time to retire…………………Chiiper we need that 14 MILLION
DLOWE……………………………..Time to retire………………..We need that 15 Million
McOUT………………………………Waste of money
CONSTANZA………………………Was not who we thought he was
September 24th, 20119:31 pm
How did this team win as many games as they ?
This is the weakest offense of all playoff contenders.
September 24th, 20119:42 pm
That’s just the way it goes some… seasons.
September 24th, 20119:44 pm
Fruti, why don’t you stop with the “thats the way it goes sometimes” and just tell it like it is, “we stink, we have stunk the entire season and I don’t expect it to get any better” should have been your quote.
September 24th, 20119:45 pm
I can see now why Fish fired Fredi…
Don't Care Anymore
September 24th, 20119:46 pm
They’re not a playoff worthy team anymore. They’ll get embarrassed if they do stumble in.
September 24th, 20119:49 pm
Hope Nat Geo does a reality show this off-season on the project to give Heyward a completely new swing. Should be dramatic and contentious and full of intrigue.
how abou these
1. mclouth cf
2. j. wilson ss
3. conrrad 3b
4, ross c
5. heyward lf
6. diaz rf
7. hinskie 1b
8. prado 2b
9. lowe p
maybe with these line up, could do sometging…the startin line up can’t hit anyway…
September 24th, 20119:50 pm
nashvillewill – you forgot the most important thing – Hire Tony Gwynn for hitting coach.
September 24th, 20119:55 pm
If they don’t make it..they’ll tell what a good season they had (bs) and “Tip there cap to the Cards”….If they do a new sign will go in LF..lol
To be honest they’re a very dull team to watch…no excitement..thats why they throw dirt and water when someone does something (little kids in dirt pile) to fire each other up. ha ha..
September 24th, 201110:03 pm
The Phillies have just lost 8 games in a roll… D-hitter today to Mets.. maybe both teams will out sorry each other.
September 24th, 201110:07 pm
Fredi is a poor strategist….he had runners at first and third….the fly out would have scored the runner from third….instead we get none….
And Mac is asleep or something….his pitch selection is horrible. Rossy is sitting and Mac is gasping he is so out of breath.
If this team makes the playoffs it will be in spite of Fredi, not because of him.
September 24th, 201110:09 pm
Wolf, I like your idea of a cliche consultant. Only so many hats can be tipped. (Did Cox overuse this phrase as well or is it FG’s idea of original thinking?).
September 24th, 201110:13 pm
Ralph, is Tony Gwynn available and interested? I believe he could suit up and hit .300 today, if he is not too large. Who do you suggest to replace FG?
September 24th, 201110:19 pm
The Brave have a rather bad habit of making almost every pitcher they face look like Sandy Koufax.
September 24th, 201110:20 pm
nashvillewill, I would like to see Cal Ripkin replace Fredi, I don’t think he would rest his best players once a week.
September 24th, 201110:24 pm
September 24th, 201110:38 pm
Wanna feel better… I’m a phillies fan and we couldn’t beat Loewe when he’s drunk… so hang in there..
September 24th, 201110:43 pm
Storky – Phillies are just playing possom and waiting in ambush for the Cardinals.
September 24th, 201111:15 pm
Nashvillewill..love to see Greg Walker hitting Coach with White Sox…he would do a great job and from South Georgia. Believe he would love to Coach Braves.
Tony is Coaching at a College but don’t know where.
September 24th, 201111:16 pm
Ralph…Braves playing possom too. ???
September 24th, 201111:21 pm
As far as the race for the wildcard win, as Ernie Johnson Sr. used to say, “The Braves don’t have any easy ones.” Speaking of announcers, what has happened to Fred Hickman? He is missed!
September 24th, 201111:31 pm
DOB – do you really feel like FG has control of the situation ? He trully looks like a deer in the headlights. The least you could ask him is why do you just sit there and get out managed day ij
And day out! Why id mc fat azz allowed to suck offensively AND defensively?? Much of this september swoon falls on three elements1. Mccann flopping
2. The lack of management ability of Fredi G
3 Hitting .220 is acceptable. When it should not be
Go Bravos ! Unfortunately this team is lacking IT! And it is heart. My Braves have
Not manned up ! Wow who woulda thunk it?
September 25th, 201112:03 am
How amusing that just because Braves hitters can’t figure out a pitcher, he’s got great stuff. 95% of the pitchers we’ve faced this year have kept us off balance. Why? Because we have a LOUSY OFFENSE. And as for Freefalling’s list of top throwers we’ve beaten, a lot of that happened when we had our full complement of a pitching staff and a bullpen that wasn’t worn to a frazzle. The Braves, who proclaimed themselves “energized” by Friday’s game, today went right back to sleep.
September 25th, 201112:19 am
An absolutely disgraceful performance by both the offense and Beachy in a playoff type situation. How has this happened? From a team that lived for the comeback to a team that can’t withstand an early one run deficit. A 4-1 deficit is a death knell. Turns a 5inning game into one THAT has to last for 9.
How, how, how in the hell can you produce 1 run against what went wong. A perennial whipping boy of the AL. Save the excuses apologists. We are left praying for the cubs and stros knowing we can’t take care of our own business. FG cliched quotes of an entire season- copy paste.
September 25th, 201112:25 am
September 24th, 2011
Wanna feel better… I’m a phillies fan and we couldn’t beat Loewe when he’s drunk… so hang in there..”
But did you see us today? We couldn’t even beat Wang. Someone had to say it.
September 25th, 201112:33 am
DOB,We on the blog respect your work and tolerance for us hacks, but I have to ask.As a journalist are you just a tad bit tired of the same answers from Fredi for six months.”Tip the cap” has got to be the worst cliche ever. Now seems like the players are using it to a man.Fredi’s lack of passion and emotion has definitely been adopted by his players. They will not win the wild card, believe it.
September 25th, 201112:34 am
I don’t think this team could hit a batting practice pitcher, they would either pop everything up or hit weak ground balls back to the pitcher.
September 25th, 201112:36 am
Right on MF. ANYTHING that shows he actually participated in the game.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
