MIAMI — CineSport’s Noah Coslov asks David O’Brien of the AJC where the Braves’ playoff chances stand in light of their recent slump.
Coach (2011 Fredi G. a go!)

Sacrilege my friend. The baseball Gods are very real and yes they can be extremely fickle. The reason being…..all those years of making the playoffs and not finishing the deal (except for 1995) tends to draw the ire of the Gods. They are not happy with our Bravos.

Good stuff as always, DOB. Pretty much spot on…
September 20th, 20115:31 pm
Very good point. U win some u shouldn’t have and vice versa. They just need a big offensive explosion tonight.
Im on the ledge again, DOB.
Remember all those 5 run leads we had in May, June, July where Fredi insisted on using JV? He made his own bed and now he, as well as we, are having to lay in it. No matter which way u want to slice it, this is Fredi’s fault that the strength of our team was not protected for when it counted most. Poor bullpen management from a poor manager.

Whatever happened to speed never slumps or those guys sure are fun to watch. Well, that stagnant offense we have now is sure not much fun to watch and they all appear to be in a slump.

Big win tonight. Bats come to life to bail out pitching and the Braves cruise to the “Wild Card.” I guess its earning its name this year. WILD in both NL and AL.
The Game Has Changed
September 20th, 20116:31 pm
If we go 4-4 they would need to go 7-2 to tie. I think we are still in good shape.
September 20th, 20116:34 pm
let’s face facts if the braves keep playing 7 and 3 like they have since the cardinal series they are not gonna make the playoffs the cards have mets , cubs and Astros and they have good records against all 3 maybe next year.
September 20th, 20116:47 pm
Everygame, heck every inning should have playoff importance to everyone involved with the Braveauxs. Yes I understand that we may have hit a wall but time to get renergized. I think Kimbrel and Venters have actually had TOO much rest. Yes…TOO MUCh. Not that they didn’t need it but about 3 weeks ago Fredi started trying extra hard to find rest for the Bullpen which was the right thing to do since he practically killed them early on, but it has thrown them off.
With 8 to go, we need to go on a run. Pitch the youngsters, get the Bullpen back into everyday shape, PLEASE sit D. LOWE, and Chipper, B-Mac, Prado….SOMEBODY step up and carry this team before the Cards or Giants BURY us!! Playoff game every game until we go home…in late Oct.

Talks cheap..lets see if they can back it up.

Quit frankly they look wore out. McCann looks like he is in another world-why doesn’t FG play Ross?
FG is going to pitch the wonderful 9-15 Lowe tomorrow night!!!! Couple this with not playing Constanza and it just makes you wonder. He is making the big bucks but you have to wonder.
Even if they make the “playoffs” they will get killed in the first round.
They are not playoff material at this point in the season.
September 20th, 20117:53 pm
What does it matter if they, in fact, get lucky and make the playoffs? They will be swept out in the first round anyway. Same old Braves. No heart.
Lowe? Oh No!
September 20th, 20118:04 pm
Are the Braves really going to let Lowe lose another one? Gues the powers that be see the $$ they are paying him, and figure the hell with winning the WC. I really wish someone would man up and tell why they are sitting Costanza. Is freddie playing favorites, like I have heard about? Or does he just not have a clue.
September 20th, 20118:15 pm
As usual DOB, excellent coverage!! thanks for all you do.
September 20th, 20118:18 pm
Last night-Uggla-solo HR again-pop out with bases loaded. Same old story. McCann still trying to pull everything.
September 20th, 20118:21 pm
Freddi G must have quit takin his meds(true story)…..some very irrational decisions have bben made of late imho.
September 20th, 20118:29 pm
Say what you will but Fredi should have used someone now and then for Venters, someone now and then for Kimbral and the same for OFlaherty. 1st and tied for 3rd in appearances. Years ago Brad Clontz set the Braves record for appearances in a season and was never the same pitcher again.
September 20th, 20118:30 pm
About 10 less appearances each would have worked. Meant to put this in above comment!
Does it matter?
September 20th, 20118:34 pm
Braves going to get rung up quickly even if they make playoffs. Wildcard should go to the hot team which is STL.
September 20th, 20118:40 pm
I see Ruth, Gehrig, Mays, Aaaron, Musial all with silly haircuts…all jumping around when there’s a homer, giving forearm smashes to each other,….well, actually no I don’t.
This is your f555ing job…you are paid millions,,,you are supposed to WIN! It’s called a “game”…Bravos…this time of year it is BUSINESS…perform or get out!
it would be wise for the braves to just throw in the towel and let the cardinals make the wildcard slot because the cardinals would actually be a contender during the playoffs. braves will be lucky to win 1 playoff game in the first round and be yet another waste of a good playoff spot for a more worthy team. Do you think winnipeg would buy the braves too?
September 20th, 20118:42 pm
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Lowe needs to GO! And I still say JJ should have been traded at the deadline while his stock was high…now he’s injured and isn’t contributing, so we’re losing a LOT of ground in the Wild Card. That is 2 years in a row that JJ would miss the playoffs due to injury.
September 20th, 20118:44 pm
@WTF?: I agree. The Braves would just embarass themselves in the playoffs in their current condition. The Cardinals have Pujols, Berkman, Holliday, Carpenter, etc…they actually have a contending team and they just beat the crap out of Philly…and I think they’d PLAY Philly in the 1st round, which would be VERY interesting!
September 20th, 20118:46 pm
Larry mishandled a grounder once before, cost us home field.
September 20th, 20118:51 pm
I have been hoping all week that the Braves lose the lead quickly, so they don’t embarrass us or themselves. They have not shown that they want a post season at all. The Crads and Giants are fighting for this thing. The Braves? Not so much. Please, just clean house, starting at the top, and wait till next year.
September 20th, 20119:17 pm
There must be Baseball Gods…………how else could you explain an ENTIRE TEAM in an offensive slump ALL YEAR LONG ???? Can’t get on base…Can’t drive em in when we do………..I’ll admit I don’t have the answer…there isn’t any ONE position that, with a trade,. would put us over the top………so watta ya do?? trade ‘EM ALL ????? This lack of offense has killed us this year and I agree with most posters…..even if we DO survive and make the playoffs, we’ll be 3 and out……….HOPE I’m wrong…..but DAMN………………
