The Braves named Julio Teheran their minor league pitcher of the year for the second consecutive season and Lynchburg first baseman Joe Terdoslavich their minor league player of the year.
The Braves announced all their minor league award winners on Thursday and will honor them in a pre-game ceremony before Friday night’s game against the Mets. Many will be available to sign autographs at the Fan Plaza at Turner Field from 5:50 to 6:50 p.m. Friday.
Teheran was named both International League pitcher of the year and rookie of the year this season after going 15-3 with a 2.55 ERA in 25 games. He led the league in wins and tied for the league lead in ERA. He struck out 122 in 144 2/3 innings while walking 48. He held opponents’ to a .232 batting average.
Terdoslavich, a sixth-round round pick out of Cal State-Long Beach last year, broke a 65-year-old Carolina League record for doubles in a season with 52. The switch-hitting first baseman was third in the league in hitting with a .286 batting average and fifth in the Braves organization with 20 home runs, to go along with 82 RBIs.
To break the record in a league dominated by pitching impressed Lynchburg manager Luis Salazar all the more. Only one hitter in the Carolina League finished with a .300 average or better, and that was Lynchburg shortstop Andrelton Simmons, who hit .311.
“To hit 52 doubles in this league is amazing,” Salazar said. “I was very impressed with the way (Terdoslavich) handled it. He had a great season. He’s a gap-to-gap hitter. He has gap power from both sides of the plate – to me it’s equal vs. righty or lefty. He’s very much a line drive hitter.”
Other winners named at each minor league level for the Braves were (pitcher of the year, then player of the year):
Mike Minor and Stefan Gartrell in Triple-A Gwinnett, Randall Delgado and Tyler Pastornicky in Double-A Mississippi, Zeke Spruill and Andrelton Simmons at Single-A Lynchburg, Chasen Shreve and Evan Gattis at low Single-A Rome, J.R. Graham and Brandon Drury at rookie league Danville, Yean Carlos Gil and Felix Marte in the Gulf Coast League, and Oriel Caicedo and Jose Peraza in the Dominican Summer League.

The Terd will be big and talked about for years. I don’t ever really see him stinking it up and consider him to be a firm fielder

Would you dig a little on Andrelton Simmons;
he is supposed to be a terrific fielder, [# 2 rated fldng ss in his draft]
with a superior arm,
now he hits 311 in a pitctcher’s league ?
Inquiring minds want to know ?

Any chance they move Terdoslavich to the outfield? It seems like Freddy Freeman has first base covered for the next decade or two.

Any BRAVES’ fans here read my minor’s reports this season, and recognize some names in this article?
SS AL SIMMONS and 1B JOE TERDOSLAVICH were thunder and lightning in the LYNCHBURG line-up this season. Congrats to all.

The Terd had a rough time getting out of the shoot early on, but eventually came though and made a successful splash.

Why do so many toiletheads have to show off their supreme intelligence and devastating wit on this blog, by bestowing insulting nicknames on young and upcoming baseball players? Is it some kind of tribal mania? Just pull the flush chain on yourselves, please, and leave baseball talk to real fans, OK? And may the offended young man stuff a bat up your posteriors, sideways preferably,

Interesting fact…Dromio94 is a Rock impersonator and wrestles on the weekends in high school gyms.
The Rock says take that bat, turn it sideways and shove right up your POSTERIOR !??

Terdo is his nickname in these parts. I saw him play quite a bit. I don’t know if he can play third but he is a slick first baseman. He kind of hits like Freeman, doesn’t pull much and can hit it a long way. Simmons made some errors but Lynchburg is a horrible stadium, rough infield and bad lights. He had 7 RBIS in a game in August. He can hit

Looks like the Turd made a splash in Lynchburg. Does he spray it around or pull mostly? When he got on did he run? I heard he couldn’t go to his left, but went into the hole well.

Oh, I guess I’m not alone in my incredulity regarding the name of the Braves minor league star.
Should have probably assumed as much.
