Braves place Sherrill on 15-day DL

To make room for Matt Diaz on the 25-man roster, the Braves placed left-handed reliever George Sherrill on the 15-day disabled list with elbow inflammation. Manager Fredi Gonzalez said Sherrill has been nursing the injury for several weeks.

Sherrill has pitched only 1 1/3 innings in the past 2 ½ weeks. He hasn’t pitched since Friday in New York, which means he’ll be eligible to return Sunday, Sept. 11 in St. Louis.

“He just needs to rest it and get over it so we can have him the second half of September and hopefully in the postseason,” Braves general manager Frank Wren said.

15 days without Serrill will be nice. A shame he didn’t fall down an elevator shaft.

I don’t get the Sherrill hate. He has been solid for the Braves. I recall in a game last week the commentators mentioned he has the second best record in stranding inherited runners this season.

He started the season slow but has been fab vs lefties as hoped and lately much better than expected vs righties. Hate not justified.
