True Stizz … I think my Livan issue goes back to the 1997 NLCS and since that series I have never been a big fan of his. Now that he gone fat and throws slow its even more frustrating to watch. Not the pitcher I was wanting to see after a break. Oh well 9 games up in the Wild Card is enough to make me sleep a bit better.

Before anyone on this board jumps off a bridge about tonight’s game, please take a deep breath and keep a little perspective. MLB season is a 162 game marathon, not a 1 game sprint. And barring a historic collapse, the Braves have comfortably positioned themselves to be part of the post season. In my mind, there’s no doubt the NL East is the best division in the NL this year. Easy to lose perspective when you’re about to drop 7 1/2 games behind the best team in baseball…but the Braves are better than any other NL team outside their own division…

you’d figure that by now we’d have found a way to solve the great riddle that is livan hernandez. i watched him shut us down a couple weeks ago in DC. couldnt help observing a few things:
– batters should focus on the off-speed pitches. he throws them a lot, and around 65 mph. just a lollipop going up there. if you’re watching for it, it’s easy to hit. his effectiveness lies in surprising you with it.
–instead of that, the braves seem to key on the fastball, which is what i think livan wants you to do, so that he has you set up for the off-speed stuff. if he throws the fastball, it’s around 85 so even keying on the slow pitches, you can catch up to it. but he doesnt want to throw many fastballs, as they’re so hittable.
–dont try to hit him hard. just it where it’s pitched. if you go up there swinging for the fence, you fall right in his trap, and pop it up to the outfield.
of course, this stuff seems so obvious, i wonder why we havent come up with a unified approach on him by now. any ideas? am i missing something? b/c it all seemed incredibly obvious sitting a few rows off the field.

Embarrassing to lose to a team going nowhere and 23 games out of first.
Forget the schedule for the Phillies and the Braves in Sept. It ain’t worth noting.
This team has already settled for the WC. The division is over. When you are losing to a terrible team that the Phillies dominate and the Phils are winning 8-0 over a team (Cincy) that you lost 2 out of 3 to a few weeks back….you don’t deserve a chance to get back in the division race.
Pathetic effort again…by JJ and the offense is still on vacation!

I didn’t make it to Durham for the game, but have been watching on TV. Moylan came in and pitched the bottom of the 7th for Gwinett. I know it’s against AAA, but he looked very good, and struck out the side, 1-2-3.

The Braves do not need any more days off, that is for sure.
I say sit JJ for a while, and consider moving Lowe to the pen. Surely Minor, Beachy, and Delgado cannot do any worse. I am not sure about Hudson. And, this Martinez guy has been awful.
