J- Hey with a nice opp field liner…..
Nice hit, JHey!!! Maybe he’s turning a corner here.
August 23rd, 20119:50 pm
Jason looked good again…. Lugo? Really?
So Predictable…We can’t win a game by more than two runs. It’s in the by-laws.
We won 3-0 yesterday
….and that has happend all the time right?
Braves have 2nd highest run differential in the NL, so they’re winning bigger than any team not named the Phillies.
JC from DR!
Heyward going the other way. Nice.
And there it is. First multi hit game since July 31st.
August 23rd, 20119:51 pm
Haha nice swing heyward
FYI, The Term :Hater Is Not Slang anymore…I was sland in the mid 90’s… Now everyone uses that word, especially in talk sports talk radio
Agreed, noliee. If Heyward doesn’t bat .700 with 135 homeruns, he’s a failure to some folks.
We really need a right handed stick who could play back up SS. Heck, that may be our only friggin need heading into 2012.
Hate that Lugo is our right-handed batter off the bench. I am fine with him as a back-up SS. Just wish they had another RH PH.
August 23rd, 20119:52 pm
They walked Lugo? Wow.
Effective pitching by Grabow to Lugo. You don’t want to let Lugo beat you. He is a star in the making.
Slaaaam Time again
Pretty sure AGon would have swung at that ball four.
walk 4 lugo whew
Come on, Bourn! Do it!
Moe Berg – There’s Conrad, but he’s reserved for late-inning dramatic situations.
Efrim–I agree. Looks like we posted near simultaneous, similar sentiments.
August 23rd, 20119:53 pm
nope. not a failure. its just not smart to say hes “cured” because of one game. remember those three games in a row starting in new york when he had a hit each day? right after that, went back in the tank. again, hope this is his turning point, but lets not jump the gun
If you’re Bourn, you gotta make him throw at least two strikes before swinging, right?
George Stein is Shaun….only posts in support of Heyward….gotta be him.
Come On Money Mike!
Good job, Cubbies. Compete, damn you, compete!
August 23rd, 20119:54 pm
Linebrink for Cy
these are big runs you’re stranding Braves ………
VJ – I hear you on that I can still do triangle math but throw some arc’s in there and I haven’t done that math in years. But I think you get my question and I’ll be around all year if you get around to the answer
My guess is there isn’t very much difference on a typical fly ball HR meaning if it will clear 16′ fence at 368′ it will also clear the 8′ fence at 380′ (unless it is hit str8 the hell up).
Maybe you can make it a geometry question for one of your students.
I stand corrected….sorry, george!
that may come back to bite us
oh yeah I’m gonna base an opinion on what happens on talk sports radio where the jocks are paid to ignite controversy so the haters have somewhere to rant. sigh
What a chance to take the wind out of the sails
C. Martinez to pitch 6th for Braves
August 23rd, 20119:55 pm
LAG–I know there is Conrad, but because he is usually held back. We don’t see him in a situation like where we just saw Lugo. A RH Hinske who can play a couple of positions would be nice.

So Predictable…We can’t win a game by more than two runs. It’s in the by-laws.
…I can tell you went by overall +/- on runs scored. nice try though
Yeah, hindsight says that pitching to Ramirez was a big mistake; he is hitting everything right now.
August 23rd, 20119:56 pm
Not sure why the Braves pitched to Ramirez…but hopefully the boys can get the bats warmed up again and score some more runs.
Been through this a hundred times with you, phil. I am not Shaun.
August 19th, 2011
It was meant as an example, Heath.
I really like Heyward and have hope for him. But, I can no longer reasonably defend his performance this season. I don’t know why he’s struggled so much. I’m not a scout so I’m not really qualified to analyze his stance or his swing, but a lot of people who get paid to do this stuff believe his skill set will translate to very strong results. I have no choice but to believe them. As to his BABIP, I do believe he’s been tremendously unlucky, but even with a league average BABIP, he would not be where we all expected and hoped he would be this year. I do hope he can improve for the stretch run, though, as this team will need him over the next 60 days.
Go count some RBIs.
look at joe going with the reverse jinx throwing out c-mart sux against the cubs this year
August 23rd, 20119:57 pm
Well, I respect your opinions, if I don’t agree, nolie and BAS.
To me haters are racists, bigots, homophophes, sexists and their ilk. Just can’t see myself lumping irate baseball fans in with those scourges. Just me.
reverse spin can win
August 23rd, 20119:58 pm
That Freaking Sorry-ANO!!!
Prado took his time there…What the??
What, no Sorry-ano chants today?
Moe Berg – We can always see if Joe Mather will come back to play for us…
Here we go again
Chipper continues the march towards 3,000….i say he gets there at age 42….and every hit he gets over 2,600 this year is big.
What is Prado doing out there? He’s beginning to wear thin with me…
Rosters expand in about a week.
We’ll see more Helms than Lugo when that happens.
F you Sorry-ano!
haters are anybody who spews venom of any kind and that abounds on this and every other blog on the web
In minor league news, Salcedo 2 for 4 with a 2B and 2 SB’s tonight. Lipka 2 for 4 with 2 2B’s and a SB. He’s back up to .240 for the year. Yeah……
August 23rd, 20119:59 pm
Come On C-Mart!
I suspect we will see more Ross pinch hitting also, since we will have another catcher available
That’s the thing BAS, we don’t klnow if Nate played the last two years with that hernia and you just can’t do anything that requires max effort. I had the operation he needed where they sew into you abdomen something similar to what a screen is made like. Of course it’s something that will grow into your muscle tissue and make it strong as your abdomen was before. It’s a difficult surgery to recovery from but you can be like new. AND NATE when he was a Pirate was a player we could use.
Face it, he couldn’t run full speed, he couldn’t throw full speed, he was trying to make contact not hit for power. That 50 SB season can still happen and all the things that go with a healthy Nate.
Perhaps there are degrees of haters, Brava? I dunno. If we’re comparing them to racists, etc., then you’re correct.
August 23rd, 201110:00 pm
I’m not sure Prado feels good. he is usually not a sluggish player
I hate seeing Barney stroll to the plate these days.
August 23rd, 201110:01 pm
George – just yanking your chain…glad to see you ease off that irrational support for wayward…but i must admit i see Heyward starting to peek from under the covers…finally.
And man what on Earth has happened to Prado? He just looks rattled at the plate and in the field.
walk Barney please
August 23rd, 201110:02 pm
Big-time K there. Most important K of the season.
August 23rd, 201110:05 pm
Fair enough, phil. If this team is shining a ring in nine weeks. it’ll all be water under the proverbial bridge.
i still would prefer to have matt diaz there instead of lugo… matt would never have walked though
I have a lot of experience with massive infections and it’s treatment. It drains you and can take a good while to recover fully from. Even the antibiotics used to treat it are poison to your body
Well, my point was, George, that I don’t think most of the people here who critisize Heyward actually hate him, unlike those other types do their targets. Of course, there are some, likeHeyPipp an CrisfromSac who may. Neither of those seem to be playing with a full deck, though.
Kerry Wood Has now been around forever!
August 23rd, 201110:06 pm
I think Venters shouldn’t pitch tonight. There. I said it. Viz, EOF, Kimbrel. Or another inning of C-Mart.
Redemption time, Mac.
August 23rd, 201110:07 pm
Mac needs to get hot again.
How can you enjoy a 5 to 4 lead Chip when you had a 5 to nothing lead.
August 23rd, 201110:08 pm
I know, Noliee. I just hope the antibiotics work to get rid of these problems Hubby is having.
Heap has struggled a bit since coming back…..
hey boys its ok to score more runs.. man do we k a ton… sheshhhh …
Mac needs to heat back up.
didn’t Lowe just pitch 2 nights ago
August 23rd, 201110:09 pm
not literally, but it seems like he did.
I want an Uggla tater here.
Lowe pitched Friday
We need Mac hot a month from now…he’ll get there.
I would hope not, Brava, given that most of us (I assume) don’t know him. He may never be the player we all hope he will be (or maybe he will be), but none of that makes him a bad dude.
man….our 1-3 hitters are not doing very much at all lately. oh thats right, our number 3 hitter is hitting 6th. sorry, but while chip is this hot you gotta put him back where he belongs.
Sorry- was responding when you made your second comment
August 23rd, 201110:10 pm
good luck with that GB4L. hope all goes well
just 1 run of insurance would be big at this point
We still win?
arodys, eric, and mr. k or what
Diaz’s slugging is way off this year–.329 for the year, versus career slugging of .441. His OPS is over 150 points below his career average.
August 23rd, 201110:11 pm
Excellent – former William and Mary football coach “singing” “Take Me Out to the Ballgame”…
August 23rd, 201110:12 pm
And another Ramirez at bat coming around the corner. This should be interesting.
chipper average up to .280
he looks so fresh.
Not excellent – chip singing…

Fredi going with my thinking…..I think.
If you’re the Cubs and you haven’t won a World Series in almost 103 seasons, do you really want Marv Leavy singing during the 7th inning stretch? I mean, seriously?
