Great blog DOB, but what no love for the Viz he looking like he can make the bullpen a four headed monster. Braves could be able to shorten the game to 5 innings.
Two aftershocks here in Central Virginia, both too weak to be felt, 2.2 and 1.8. LOUISA had exrensive damage to both the High School and Junior High; damaged enough for extended closure. One free-standing brick gable fell out of the end of a commercial building, and crushed three parked cars under it. There was no cinder-block backing only wood framing, and it appears the brick-work was not tied in to anything substantial. This was in TYSON’s Corner west of D.C. I know of no other damage at this time. The masonry seal between my chimneys and the house appears unbroken, but of course things tend to show up over time. So far so good. So GO BRAVES!
I gotta say, if that’s the extend of the major damage, sounds like they were lucky. “Retrofitting” is probably not something that folks back east think about, but maybe this quake will lead to safer buildings. Glad no one seems to have been hurt and the damage was limited- glad to hear you and your home are fine as well
The aftershocks could last a while, and there may be a few stronger jolts in the next few days so just be prepared. Hopefully they won’t be anything worse than the 2 little ones you’ve had already
Power arms? Be on the lookout for ELIECER CARDENAS, and MARK LAMM – A+, and CARLOS ‘WILD-thang’ PEREZ – A. Three reliefers which could produce a new set of dynamic arms in ATLANTA in a year or two. And let’s hope both BRETT BUTTS and STEVE MAREK recoup their magic after TJ surgery. That would be five more arms for the pen in 2013, and later.
AGON has made some jaw dropping plays this year. And he’ll win you a game every now and then with his bat. If he would only swing at strikes he could improve alot.
A sample of one is not statistically significant. If you could find 50 players in the history of MLB who had the “Dan Uggla Body Type” you might be able to start making some vague comparisons
abwright, I agree. I would like to see the list of players considered of similar body type to Uggla. I’ve only seen a list of one, Marcus Giles. I’d like to see that list be thorough and not pruned of players who might skew the results away from the hypothesis.
This should cut down on the double plays. With Seabass making outs in front of him there will be fewer runners on for when Heyward pulls a weak grounder to second.
I can see you are very circumspect regarding ‘quakes. As it should be, you living in the land of the trembling earth. The epicenter was indeed about 45 miles from my home. As I said, the earth did not roll. It actually bounced straight up and down. The quake source was very close to the surface, not several miles deep as they normally are here. Estimates have run from .1 to .6 of a mile below ground. The area struck was very rural however, so buildings were scattered and evidently only minimal effects occurred there.
Yesterday there was a tornado in the area, and IRENE is supposed to hit us Saturday. Dang, what’s a body to do but hide under the mattress? I mean……..this is not docile Ol’ Virginia. Yikes.
Memphis may not be back east, but I recently moved from there and my in-laws still live there, and they are retro-fitting all of the bridges, overpasses, etc. I was surprised that they were doing that much retro-fitting when I was there. However, there has been a major quake predicted for that region for several years.
I’ve felt them all- the rollers, the bouncers, and ones that do both (which are REALLY freaky). The rollers tend to last longer, but actually tend to be the “safer” of the 2 because they are…softer? Not that any quake is either particularly safe or soft.
I’ve felt them all- the rollers, the bouncers, and ones that do both (which are REALLY freaky). The rollers tend to last longer, but actually tend to be the “safer” of the 2 because they are…softer? Not that any quake is either particularly safe or soft.

No warning. As Mother Nature goes, earthquakes are right up there, but there ain’t jack I can do. I don’t know how y’all deal with those week-in-advance hurricane advisories. Or that all-season-long tornados could form stuff. I don’t have to make CB’s Yosemite decision. I don’t have to be one of those hundreds of thousands of people stuck in traffic evacuating for a storm that may or may not come.
I might get trapped in the remnants of this building as soon as I hit ’submit.’ I may drive my car off the Bay Bridge this weekend. But, at least I won’t know it’s coming…

I’m just a dumb blogger, but the replays didn’t show him turn the ankle all the way. It appeared he turned it a bit…perhaps the kind that really will just mean a few days and he’s basically fine. I’ve had a few like that, as have most of us…..hopefully that’s the deal.
2012-25 man roster- are you forgetting about viziciano–with the starting pitching for 2012– lowe, huddy, hanson, beachy,jj, minor, delgado, teheran– the best place is the bullpen for viziciano not enough room on the starting staff for him and he has been excellent out of the pen so minus martinez add viziciano or they wait one more year on hoover

I’m no Tennessee fan, I can assure you, but when I heard she had early onset Alzheimer’s, it was terribly sad. She’s a one of a kind basketball coach, and this is what you think the response should be to it? It’s going to kill her if something else doesn’t first. Understand?
I lost a grandfather to this insidious stuff too…try to be a little more sensitive. Please.
I noticed the other day that Jose Constanza was running out a grounder to first base and he was running with an awkward motion. He would plant his feet facing outward (opposite of pidgeon-toed) and push off like this with each step.
I’m a college sprinter and we learn that running by planting and pushing off your feet straight up-and-down (in a straight line with your body, pointing to where you’re going) is the correct way to run.
Do you know if he always runs with an open strides? It’s a very unorthodox way if it is, and he would probably be able to run faster if he adjusts his feet positioning.

Dan Uggla is the modern day Hack Wilson. Now all he has to do is knock in 190.

Does Georgie have a mild sprain? anyone? No time to be shy.

Why the F is he hitting 8th??
This should cut down on the double plays. With Seabass making outs in front of him there will be fewer runners on for when Heyward pulls a weak grounder to second.

how can you say something like this?
Oh…wait…because you’re likely right….sorry.

I think Heyward’s poor play this season is a result of licking the stamps he’s been using to respond to fan mail. I think that Biff picked them out for him….
ha. like it.

Just a day off for Freeman, and a chance to get Hinske some needed at-bats. Hasn’t done more than pinch-hit in a couple of weeks….
Constanza’s ankle is a lot better today, could be back in lineup as soon as tomorrow.

Please.

Hey DOB, hope you read this:
I noticed the other day that Jose Constanza was running out a grounder to first base and he was running with an awkward motion. He would plant his feet facing outward (opposite of pidgeon-toed) and push off like this with each step.
I’m a college sprinter and we learn that running by planting and pushing off your feet straight up-and-down (in a straight line with your body, pointing to where you’re going) is the correct way to run.
Do you know if he always runs with an open strides? It’s a very unorthodox way if it is, and he would probably be able to run faster if he adjusts his feet positioning.

After reading the blog today, 2 things are obvious…1)Heyward is crap, 2)JJ is crap. We didn’t even talk about how crappy Gonzo is.
Gee…we must be losing a LOT of games right now…must be hanging out in the cellar these days.
People…what if you were Mets fans, or Houston, or…

Probably a little too late to teach Constanza how to walk or run properly….he’s plenty fast…why mess with it?
