Larry Then McCann comes back and Fredi pops him at third and Freeman down to 5th even with McCann fresh of the disabled list and without a single at bat from rehab.
BMac played 2 rehab games in Gwinnett. Went 2-6 with a homer and 2 RBI.

Enough with the fing stats. Even a blind person can see that Heyward is lost right now. It’s in his head now and it will take some off time to get it back. He will be a great player but you have to ride the hot hand. When did all the geeks get involved in baseball?

No doubt McFann, Prado got robbed as well. I agree Stats hugger, maybe with Constanza getting hurt, it’ll give him consistent playing time so he can “get it back”. We will surely need him to come around hopefully by October.

Braves are making a HUGE mistake!!!!
The Braves have done a great job these last 4 years of acquiring young talent and developing it. Frank, I gave you a chance from the beginning and you are proving worthy of my “fan” trust. Fredi was the right hire and should be considered as the leader for manager of the year. Yes he has a talented team to manage but he is following an all time Great (Thank you Mr. Bobby Cox) and has shown no problem shuffling the deck to get the right hand.
BUT…..the Braves are making a HUGE mistake in the way they are handling Jason Heyward. He should have been sent down weeks ago. He is a special talent that we haven’t seen in a long time….until freddie Freeman came along. LOL But my point is those 2 guys are the future…and the now. When they allowed Uggla to fight through his woeful start that was the right thing to do because he is a proven vet that could find his mistake and work it out. J-Hey is a KID!! He is talented and humble and HE KNOWS he has to iumprove. While the Braves are trying not to hurt his confidence by keeping him here they are ultimately killing his confidence by not sending him down so the pressure would be to correct what is wrong not win ballgames. He is not FRANCOUER who B’d and moaned when he was demoted. i think he would’ve gone down to AAA corrected his flaws and came back with a vengeance……right about this time or Sept call-ups. Oh Well. I hope we haven’t ruined the Kid because he is probably the most talented and gifted player on our team now and the future.

No chance on catching the Phillies. 1964? They have won two World Series since then while the Braves have only won one. Besides, we are 8 games down in the loss column and they have 3 games at hand. With Hamels, Lee, Oswalt, and Halladay, they are having no losing streaks. By the time we have our last 3 games head to head with them it will be just a formality. What really impresses me regarding the Phillies, outside of their big four, is their excellent defense. That may be the trump card. I would not desire to play San Fran in a short series either with Lincecum and Cain!

I agree. Jason would probably have been on a hot streak playing every day in Gwinnett the last 3 weeks. Then he could have warranted more playing time. Why do you set a young player like that on the bench ? He needs to be learning at Gwinnett. He dosn’t deserve to play in Atlanta yet but he needs reps in Gwinnett. Poor management there.

I am in agreement with you about Heyward. He needs to be playing regularly, be it for Atlanta or Gwinnett. This 22 year old has all the tools, but clearly something is not right. I’m not sure if he’s trying to listen to many bits of advice or what, but we need to get him back on track. One plus now is that J-Hey does not need to carry this team; he can concentrate on just getting back into a “flow” like early last year when he looked so confident at the plate. GO JASON! GO BRAVES!

Anyone else thinks it may be time for Venters to take a few games off? He was showing signs last night, like he did when he started coughing up runs earlier this season. I know his and Kimbrel’s streak will not last forever, I just hope that WHEN they give up a run or 2, it’s not when it’ll cost us the lead or game.

Catching the Phillies is a mindset….. to do that they have to gain ground each week by playing solid baseball and utilizing bench and september call ups to win each series and dominate the Phillies…… It is not about overworking players but making all the right moves with the talent we have…… No way should we coast to a wildcard……. Playing the best baseball in the majors and winning the wildcard is better than coasting in!

JJ’s performance raised more questions than providing answers. Against the better teams Braves will face down the stretch this type of work gets us beat. I still don’t think he’s right and Braves need to look elsewhere for starters–Delgado or Teheran–especially as WC becomes solid. Minor should stay in rotation–Hanson has time to regain form but tendonitis requires rest and his mechanics won’t change in two weeks. Rotation down the stretch and in playoffs: Hudson, Beachy, Minor, Delgado/Lowe. If Delgado pitches well and especially against Phils I suggest starting him in playoffs and putting Lowe in bullpen.

Oh, and Heyward versus Constanza. Constanza produces and Heyward is a project. Time to rely on production not promise. Management missed the chance to send Heyward to AAA to work on his swing and his approach. So Heyward must sit and fill in, as in tonight’s game. Offseason and spring work will determine next step, but his production has been terrible. Uggla worked out of his troubles; Heyward has not. Braves cannot afford to start three players hitting .230 or worse. So Constanza for the rest of the season!

Agree Heyward is where he needs to be 4th outfielder with the performance Jose is having….. I think it is good to have Heyward (Heywards potential) to fill in. At 22 he has got a lot of learning time and still be a productive player….. Constanza should be cared for properly even if it means a week off because his speed is his asset without it he is not an asset….. We need the speed even if his production slows to a 4th outfielder slot……

The postseason writing is on the wall….
We’ll get the Brewers most likely and be out in 5 games as we have been on many ocassions over the years. The only difference will be that we get beat in game 5 on the road instead of at home.
I hate to be so pessimistic about our chances, but it just seems we’re fated to face these upstart teams when we make the playoffs, teams that come almost from no where but that have always knocked us out….think Padres, think Marlins, think giants last year, the Cubs of all teams one year.
Until we go out there AND ACTUALLY BEAT

at any rate, until we actually beat someone like the Brewers and advance, rather than compare stats and talk really big about how we should or will or whatever, consider me worried….
I can just see big ole Fielder now knocking 3 or 4 a mile off of Lowe, our pen and insert other starter here….

Anyone seen ANY coverage of the LLWS in the AJC?
The Warner Robbins team is there again knocking on the World Championship door and not a peep from the AJC. The Braves are pretty good, but sometimes the best ‘ball’ is played at lower levels..much lower.

ccrider – Well sure it could happen this year…I’m aware of that obvious possibility. I’m also wary of getting too excited about that possibility with the shaky starting pitching and inconsistent bats.
As for that being “all I’ve got”, I simply wanted to know if you wanted a snack to commend all of your fine predictions. And I do think Dale may hang em up soon.

I don’t know what to think about “overuse”.
Since the allstar break, with the exception of Hudson and to some extent, Lowe, our starters have looked and acted worn out just throwing 95 pitches and 6 innings per game….they’re as fragile as a china doll….so what’s an FG to do? Have em throw 140 pitches per game?
The pen has to be able to handle 20 pitches a night for 2 or 3 days in a row now and then….if anything, I think some of the “overuse” will make these guys stronger down the stretch and into October, as long as a reasonable amount of rest in thrown in there…
The bottom line is that if something negative happens, there will be an excuse made for it…..
If Lowe stinks, we knew it was coming…
If Kimbrel gets rocked, he was too tired….same for Venters and EOF…..
If JJ flops, it was his knee, his arm, his facial hair, the moon beams, sun spots, the oil spill last summer, global warming….
it will always be something.

I may get bashed for saying this, but I think that Fredi has done a better job this year than Boddy did last year @ keeping the starting pitchers deeper into games. And not over using Venters and company. I think Lowe had ONE outing last year where he went 8 and well as Huddy. Other than that, 7 was along as he would leave them in there.

With regard to Jason Heyward: First, my knowledge and experience in helping young baseball players develop is nonexistent. I suspect that is largely true, too, of most of the folks who are complaining of the way the Braves are dealing with his troubles. Let the pros do their work. They have the tools, and we don’t.
In the final analysis, Heyward will have the grit to find the way to perform at a high level, or he won’t. It isn’t the coaches who are finally accountable for his play, it’s he. Personally, I see the talent, and I think he will have a pretty good career. But, this year is done for him, and he will have to overcome his propensity to injury and to overreacting to injury if he’s to transform his potential into performance.

The logical worry is that they won’t, given our track record. The Brewers fit the mold of upstarts over the years that have cleaned our clocks one right after the other as evidenced by SEVEN STRAIGHT opening round exits stage left….
When you lose seven series in a row, you better come loaded for bear and ready to play.
I hope we do because we better be ready or it’ll be over before we can sneeze.

I have watched every game the Braves play and cannot remember enjoying any of those teams as much as this one because of the excitement Bourn and Constanza bring to the team–not only for us fans but to their teammates also. When they are ON the team is ON. And I also agree with the point made about moving Freeman out of the 3 hole and inserting a guy just off the DL (Mac) sort of upset the rhythm a bit . . . not a wise move by the manager. When you’re on a roll, don’t mess with success!!

Just reading over Carroll’s piece on Chipper and Heycouer from the other day, I just find it amazing that apparently no coach on that staff has done much of anything to try to help this young man. It takes Chipper standing there for 10 minutes to figure out, and try to do something about, Heycouer’s horrid swing.
Of course since then it appears to be getting little better after showing a few signs last week.
Maybe tonight will be the night?

Absolutely right. This isn’t a knock on McCann at all. We were rolling offensively and then, bang, back in a bit of a tank after FG messed with the lineup again….
Of course we’re winning anyway, but the pitching can’t keep putting up zeros every inning.

Glad to hear Georgie’s is day-to-day. It looked a lot worse on TV. Amazing that Georgie getting nicked opens the door for Heyward. Very few saw that coming at the beginning of the year. Hopefully Heyward makes a competition out of RF.
