If Wren chickens out does nothing can you imagine the anger if you thought bad call from Meals got a lot heat just think the heat Wren will get if he stands pat .
If is it true about the 6 untouchables, then we all might as well take a nap afternoon, for whomever Frank Wren may obtain won’t be worth staying up for.
Rival exec: #Braves have six untouchables, not previously reported four. Will make it tough to get #Astros’ Bourn. #tradedeadline #MLB
Personally we already have several like him that hit LH….P’cola
aha, but he hits righty. makes alll the difference in the world
We may have been talking about Crisp from Oakland earlier…but a deal getting only Balfour would please me.
July 30th, 20115:38 pm
Schafer was a minus outfielder in 3 of his 4 full minor league seasons. He is a below average fielder
Dan Uggla for 56
Braves acquire Kemp for Beachy and Delgado.
Wren needs Bourn, if he can get Bourn for Minor, you do it. If he wants to extend the package to get a Barmes, pony up lower tier prospects to get it done.
There is likely so much posturing and bluffing going on out there. I can’t see getting spun up about *anything* someone else says that someone else said that the Braves said. The bottom line will reveal itself soon enough.
You can take that rosenthal thing with a grain of salt. Execs spread disinformation all the time in an attempt to gain bargaining leverage and fan PR…..
richbrave: I’m just an honest person, and your funny.I have to laugh.
Some of you seem to be putting a lot of stock into something a rival executive may or may not have said. Wren has been very clear that he won’t trade Vizcaino or Teharan and would prefer not to trade Delgado or Minor, but will for the right player. Why would he not mention the other 2
P’cola Brave.. I agree. I am just not an Upton guy. For all of his ability he should be way better.
Pete… Would you really trade Heyward right now? I know he isn’t producing like we think he can but he is still very young and the potential is there.
Eric from MO
But Seriously-I find that assumption hilarious! Does Wren think that anyone who follows the Braves does not know that this team was challenged offensively when all these pieces that are coming off the DL were healthy and together? So Mac and Chipper will get back in the lineup and suddenly the anemic offense that was produced with them in the lineup already will be transformed?
Yeah, but at that time the only ones hitting were Mac and Chipper. Freeman has adjusted nicely to this level, like he always does, after a slow start. Uggla has been doing more than showing signs of life for 3 weeks now, after doing nothing before that, and Prado is back from the DL. Im not saying we dont need anything, we do, but you are comparing apples to oranges.
6 untouchables, because the braves have a somewhat different philisophy. lie the angels and other teams. they want to hold onto their prospects and over value them to set their own team rather than free agent signings or trades. unfortunately, that doesnt work for a very long time. and braves are making a huge mistake on not letting some of those prospects go for proven talent, because essentially half of those prospects wont reach anywhere near potential.
July 30th, 20115:39 pm
Braves acquire Kemp for Beachy and Delgado..
THey are not 100 points different-66 points and he’s .785 away from home. Still hitting around .280+ Your evaluation is biased. Lot of players hit much better at home. You act as if he falls apart. He is a very consistent .290 hitter who hits 25 HR evey year. THEy don’t grow on trees. He is a competitor. Not pretty to watch but he plays as hard as anyone.
Steve from OH
Guys, there’s no one out there worth giving up those players for anyway. It’s not like we’re negotiating for Justin Upton or Jose Bautista. Some perspective would be nice.
The guys available are like the girl in your small town that you think is really hot, and then you realize she’s quite average when you go off to school in a big city. Not worth hedging all your bets too soon, right?

Well, as long as we have that mentality, other GMs probably have FW’s phone number on ignore.
Sure ,hope my New York Giants land Plaxico. Would be nice to have him back!
July 30th, 20115:40 pm
Bourn would be a huge spark for the Braves offensively. The guy’s leading the league in stolen bases for the 3rd year in a row! He is 2nd in caught stealing %! He is 3rd in the NL in base hits with 129 which includes 26 doubles, ( good for 7th most in the NL), and 7 triples. He’s won back to back Gold Gloves in CF! He was an All-Star in 2010! According to Baseball Ref.com Michael Bourn is good for the 5th best WAR (Wins Above Replacement player) of position players in the NL and 6th best if you include pitchers with Roy Halliday bumping him one spot!
Easy Steve. The girls from my small town are still hot regardless of what big city I live in. (smile)
ryan- your right. with the braves in position to make the wild card and needing a move or two to get them over the top…and with those prospects, and you dont trade them. then is a HUGE mistake by frank wren. but because of that, im confident that they will make a significant move
Kemp will wear number 10 for the Braves. Chipper moves to number 0.
July 30th, 20115:41 pm
We just can’t assume that everyone starts raking as soon as they come of the DL. THat’s crazy.
Jason–lucky you. Haha.
Bourne is worth giving up Minor. Period. Now how much more Houston would want could be a different story.
July 30th, 20115:42 pm
Cab: Do you have T.V. small joke!
The Braves have now traded Kemp and Freddie Freeman and Scott Proctor for Pujols and Holliday.
Steve, would you include Minor in a deal for Bourn?
Just being silly ward. I’m cool. I don’t even respond anyway. Heck, for all we know it could be some regular trying the alter-ego thing at a call center on an off day.
Rival exec: #Braves have six untouchables, not previously reported four. Will make it tough to get #Astros’ Bourn.
I’m guessing those untouchables likely include some on the major league roster because its clear we would trade Minor. Houston apparently wants to rob us blind and get robbed blind by other teams. Bourn is nice, but at the right price.
I have no idea what that even means…
I dont want BALFOUR from the A’s..
I watched him pitch against teh Rays last night and he WALKED 3 straight batters and A HBP ball and got no one out
RC in the ATL
Is it just me, or is anyone else feeling a little deadline overload? Between the trade deadline and the debt deadline, I am spending way too much time online reading all of the rumors and innuendo! Let’s hope the Braves and the powers that be in Washington get all this junk worked out in time! LOL
July 30th, 20115:43 pm
Bourn is a huge upgrade, so is Upton.
DO we really need 9-10 SPs fighting for 5 spots next season?
July 30th, 20115:44 pm
My guess there is maybe 2-3 untouchables and Wren isnt willing to package the other 4 together for one guy. He offered Minor, so that takes him off the untouchable list. He just probably wouldnt give Minor and his number 5 or 6 guy with him.
I’m so sick of our owners. I hate Liberty Media !!! Let’s get someone who actually cares about winning. Mark Cuban ??????
I would include Minor for Bourn, but the question is will Wren? Hopefully he would, but I’m not sold on that
For all those that are fortunate enough to be able to go to Braves games in Atlanta, I am trying to make plans for the Mets series in September and need advice about where to stay, things to do and see while in Atlanta, transportation around Atlanda, and getting quality tickets to the games. It would be fun to meet some of the posters on this site. Please help, I am from South Dakota and not particularly used to the city life. Thanks!
@ monty his career home OPS is .851 and career away is .785 in 2011 home is .882 and away is .767 that’s over 100 points different. Either way, at Turner Field Pence was not going to be an .850 OPS player. Therefore he was not worth what the Astros wanted for him. Maybe at the band box in Phillie he will be closer to that. But I doubt it.
Costanza is the answer! We don’t need anybody! Costanza has all the attributes we need.
July 30th, 20115:45 pm
Astros not interested in Bethancourt? They need a catcher. They need an outfielder, and middle infield as well.
I imagine they asked for Pastornicky because they want the prospects to be almost mlb ready. Braves said no because he fits into they’re plans for the next seasons.
Phillip Gosselin and Andrealton Simmons are available.
And pitchers, man Zeke Spruill, JJ Hoover, Eliecer Cardenas, Paul Clemens, etc
make a trade, any trade!! over pay for a minimal upgrade if you have to!!!!
Ward, why didn’t you tell us you owned the NY Giants?
I always wonder why DOB doesnt reply a little more, well maybe its because some of you are just stupuid!!
My thoughts on Heyward. Since May of last year he has hit .250 with 11 HR and 60 RBI in over 600 at bats. He has been injured in both seasons. If you cannot be injury free at 20 and 21 what are you going to be at 25 and 30? I think Heyward looks for reasons to sit out instead of looking for reasons to play. I also think his swing is way way too long. The opposing teams have figured out how to pitch him and I think he will never be more than a 25 HR and 85 RBI guy at best
July 30th, 20115:46 pm
Rabid Rascal…come on down for some southern hospitality! Plenty of good eatin’ down here, reasonable places to stay (and some overpriced dumps, if you’re not careful) and lots to see!
Just how do we know that he actually offered Minor? Because some reporter said so?
They said a million different things every other minute about every team.
July 30th, 20115:47 pm
RC, Love to eat! Is it advisable to stay at a hotel near the stadium?
well maybe its because some of you are just stupuid!!
No, there’s stupuid people here?
I would include Minor in a deal for Bourn as well.
I don’t own the New York Giants, just a huge ,and a big fan………
July 30th, 20115:48 pm
haven’y seen you for a bit Jeffrey. been out being a bad boy?
Eddie in bam
July 30th, 20115:49 pm
are our owners racist, not blacks and whites but hitters vs pitchers. They never show the hitters the same regard they give the pitching. Results boring baseball. GO BRAVES!!!!
Why does frank Wren hate America ?
I just hate that we have 20 more hours of her0comes Kemp sh*t!!
Any GM that deals for Crisp should have their head examined…after they resign of course…
July 30th, 20115:50 pm
I heard the Stros want Phillie prospects, and Braves might not be willing to part for Bourn. Also Upton, and Crisp are more in the Braves interest! The Braves are looking into Bourn though,as of now.
Bourn is a no brainer if it only cost Minor, Hoover or Spruill and 2nd tier prospects. He’s a major upgrade over all of our CF options combined and we will have him for next year. Now if the Astros demand that we give up 2 of our top 4 Teheran, Vizciano, Delgado, or Minor then I have no problem with Wren not pulling the trigger. But if we only give up Minor and others than I hope he goes ahead and makes it happen. GO GET EM WREN!!!
Jeff Kemp was the old rams QB in the 80’s, son of politician Jack Kemp.
neither is related to Matt Kemp.
I just hate that we have 20 more hours of here comes Kemp sh*t!!
Oh btw., Bourn is hitting .330 vs LH starters this year with a .395 OBP and an OPS of .859! I live in Nashville. I love Vandy. I love Mike Minor and I’m very happy that he won’t be a Met. I can live with rooting for him in the NL Central.
Frank Wren get it done man, for goodness sakes.
July 30th, 20115:51 pm
How could Crisp be in anybody’s interest?
DOB, should have a trade update later!
July 30th, 20115:52 pm
Rabid…I would have to say no. There is a hotel across and up from the stadium, but is overpriced and not that nice. (And this is the only place within at least a couple of miles of The Ted, to my knowledge.) Biggest bargains can be found around the airport, which is only a few miles south of the stadium. I live about 5 miles from the stadium and attend 15-20 games a year. I park at a little Chinese restaurant called the Fuwah. We’ve been parking there since 1989. The people there are very nice. Regardless of the time or the weather, when you get back out there (even if there is only one car left) one of their people is sitting there watching the car and smiling while they say good bye. They even let you call ahead of time to reserve a spot. Plus, if you are heading east after the game, it is MUCH easier to get out and away from the stadium.
I understand wanting to hold on to a few prospects… but 6 untouchables? That seems a little overboard. Wonder how much of that is reporter exaggeration. Wade in Houston probably told some reporters after beinig denied two top prospects “Good God, Wren’s must have about 6 names that I can’t even bring up or he’ll hang up the phone.” And then it got taken as fact.
July 30th, 20115:53 pm
@pete , I guess you have this baseball scouting thing all worked out huh?……………. he his 22 years old. He must develop. I bet you would have said the same thing about Justin Upton too huh? How’d that turn out? here are 3 players first 2 years OPS
first one is dave winfield, 2nd is justin upton 3rd is Heyward…… I think it’s a tad premature to start freaking out
July 30th, 20115:54 pm
F Ed “Phillie” Wade. Seriously, MLB should look into that situation
Rabbit, why would you limit that to left handed starters instead of all left handed pitchers?
Regarding Pence. He’s hitting .342 w/RISP, which is a reason he was acquired. Batting behind Victorino, Utley and Howard he should get his chances. For reference, Howard is the best Phillie regular at .305, McCann is .329 and Chipper an unworldly .403.
July 30th, 20115:55 pm
DOB, have the Braves tabled plans to look for another reliever?
July 30th, 20115:56 pm
Whether the Braves would have overpaid to get him I don’t know, perhaps but that doesn’t negate that he is a very good player, not an elite guy but very good. HIs HR and doubles are almost identical between home and away. So, its not about playing in a smaller park. He doesn’t have Coors Field type splits. He does hit alot of triples at home. In this day and age 11 mill isn’t that much.
The first part of the headline almost sounded like another debt ceiling story. Thankfully, this article didn’t beat that dead horse any further.
Pence should have a great time in Philly after settling in. Good pick up for them, somewhat less so for the Braves if they had won
Rascal, most of the decent hotels are downtown but not necessarily near the stadium. You must eat a chili dog at the Varsity and visit the aquarium.
July 30th, 20115:57 pm
The Astros are the Phillies AAAA affilliate?
RJB in DC
I have to agree that Tyler Pastornicky might just be in the untouchable six list. A-Gon will presumably not be back with the team next year, and if Tyler can continue performing well at AAA, it may be his job to lose next spring.
I think the Braves have tabled their plans to get anyone of significance if we have 472 untouchable prospects. Damn.
is it safe for me to leave for awhile, or should I wait for the trade?
The Phils went all in on Pence.Wren is playing it smart we need to keep are young arms.We can give Houston 1 for Bourn and maybe Schafer and Mclouth if they would take him.Remember Braves fans this is chest not checkers we want to cotend and win for years to come.
“Constanza has potential? LOLLOLOLOLOLOL There is a reason why he made his debut last night at 27″
And exactly what reason is that? Please be specific.
July 30th, 20115:58 pm
Richard Justice on foxsports radio just reported that he hears that the Braves and Astros are close to a deal that will send Michael Bourn and Jason Michaels to Atlanta for Mike Minor and 3 other Players which are being worked outy.
Thands RC, that is helpful and much appreciated.
Delgado and two other minor leaguers for Bourn. Should be finalized in the next hour- Buster-ESPN
July 30th, 20115:59 pm
Heyward is 21 BTW. Justin Upton hit .300 at the age of 21, Heyward is hitting .220
JasonInFL… He’s better now then when he was with us. Although no one in Philly gives him any credit he did draft our core.
Where did you see this?
July 30th, 20116:00 pm
Or did you make that one up too?
make a trade, any trade!! over pay for a minimal upgrade if you have to!!!!,
July 30th, 20116:01 pm
sounds good Will as long as they don’t want any of our untouchables
What is the use to get a player that get on base but don’t have one to drive him in?
why the crap would we want Michaels?
not true about Delgado! Richardf Justice writes for the Houston Chronicle
That is cool ATL29, I heard the aquarium is worth seeing. I can’t wait to eat at all the different restuarants. Like to try different food and really enjoy quality made food.
Not one word Dan Uggla for 56 has been reported. Just ignore everything he says
Maybe we should just wait until Chipper, Mac, Schafer, Moylan and McLouth return.
I am getting tired of the rumors, to be perfectly honest.
KEEP ALL THE PROSPECTS! We love our prospects.
Actually, I suspect FW will make a move or two, but when you are winning, it’s hard to justify getting fleeced.
nolieee: agree with your 5:56pm post……….
Scratch that. Minor not Delgado. And he just tuned in to MLB homeplate on XM Radio.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
