Actually,I’m going to be sport, and say congrad. to all the Phillies Fans.

Turncoat. Benedict Arnold. Phillies sux, BRAVES rule.

Say WARD, speaking of Benedict Arnold, did you ever notice that in the movie “Stripes’ the army training base was named “Fort Arnold.” And I’m pretty sure it wasn’t for ‘HAP’ ARNOLD either.

NickB… you maybe right. But I really think everyone is missing the point on both the braves inactivity and the phillies activity. The Phillies have an aging lineup and are in win now mode and should be. The braves have a ton of young upside and shouldn’t sell to risk tomorrow. Both strategies make sense in a way.

I don’t know how the Philadelphia YANKEES can keep going out and get any player they want. Last year there were 3 potential free agent pitchers and most teams would have been glad to get one of them and the Philadelphia YANKEES got all 3 of them and then they went out and got Pence and they may be through yet. They are just like the NY Yankees who have unlimited funds to get anyone they desire. They must have had some kind of farm system to trade all those players away and kept their team in tact. Finishing in first place all these years how can they draft so many good players. I cannot figure it out. To my knowledge the braves don’t have any high position players ready for the majors. They seem to stock up on pitchers which is ok as long as you have some players who can hit the ball and they are lacking that now. Chipper ought to go ahead and hang it up for the good of the team and let the braves use some of that money to sign someone who can play every day. I guess the braves didn’t have many trading chips since they emptied the farm for the TEX disaster rental.

“So an official of one team who spoke with the Braves said he was told, “We’ve only got to weather the storm for 14 days, until [Brian] McCann gets back.” By then, they hope Chipper Jones will be healthy; Peter Moylan will be back in their bullpen; and they will feel like the urgency to DO SOMETHING will have lessened. If not, there’s always August.”

I find that assumption hilarious! Does Wren think that anyone who follows the Braves does not know that this team was challenged offensively when all these pieces that are coming off the DL were healthy and together? So Mac and Chipper will get back in the lineup and suddenly the anemic offense that was produced with them in the lineup already will be transformed?

Wow, that is nothing but a prayer! lol

August? There’s always Derrick Lee again!

I believe that the Phillies upgraded when they got Pence, but lets not forget that Pence played for a nothing team and now he will be in the pressure cooker that is Philadelphia. Plenty of good players can’t handle media hotspots. We will have to see how he does there. That being said I still think the Braves will do something to improve. I realize that the WC is probably the most we can hope for but the Phillies and Giants can be beaten and we must not lose sight of that. No one player guarantess winning. PERIOD.

@PhillieFan I am of the camp that believes prospects exist for two reasons, to fill needs via performance or trade value. The Braves have a very competitive team that IMO, lacks the ability to get on base consistently in front of their sluggers. If we can use one of our “untouchables” to acquire said player , even if that prospect turns out to be Halladay reborn, then as a GM you should at least try. Especially when you have the level of depth that the Braves have. Even with Lowe and Huddy leaving soon, one of JJ or Hanson leaving after that, the team is going to be overloaded with starting pitching. Teheran,Delgado,Vizcaino,Minor,Medlen,Hoover,Perez…etc All of these guys won’t turn out to be good, we all know that, but if you can fill a NEED by using one of them to headline a trade(and not overpay of course) then you do it. I’m not advocating a Texiera type of deal of course, just a move on of the big 4 and the add ins to get Bourn. But don’t let the acquisitions by the phils and Giants make you feel you HAVE to make a move too… If the astros want too much, FW should just get Crisp and Bailey and be done with it.

For Halladay they sent Kyle Drabek (RHP), Michael Taylor (OF), Travis D’Arnaud (C) for Oswalt they sent JA Happ and Anthony Gose and shortstop Jonathan Villar.
