I keep saying that Wren has made his big deal when he got Nieves and will hang around the dumpster until the deadline and if a big bat comes along for $1.00 he will grab it.
driver8.. I agree the Braves are a very good team as well as the Giants. THe NL i think has 3 very good teams. Also anything can happen in a short series as you have said. Look at 1993. WHo was the better team? Of course the Braves but you never know and thats why all of this is fun
Accurate? You think a blog is fan site is a viable source of information? Not slamming you but suggesting SI as a source when clearly they weren’t the source is a bit misleading.
@Rally – This from mlbtraderumors.com: “8:12pm: Ubaldo is getting hugs in the dugout and has been removed from the game. The deal appears to be going through.”
Looks like Ubaldo is an Indian. That’s a surprise…
I would offer Houston SS-Hicks, RHP-Marek, LHP-Richardson, CF-Young for Bourn. No stars (of course I do not think Bourn is a star necessarily but significant upgrade from Braves and best CF available), but all would be on Houston’s active roster and contribute to their rebuilding process. Assuming Houston turns down this offer, move on to Upton or Byrd (I think Byrd is best fit for Braves, but also think Upton could improve dramatically once he gets out of Tampa). Tier 3 CF for me would be Pagan, Gutierrez, Crisp, and Fowler.
“Bourn has a lower OPS over the last 3 seasons than Melky”
Just my opinion, but OPS is less important when you are talking about a leadoff hitter like Bourn. OPS slightly weighs slugging more than on-base, but for a leadoff hitter on-base is much more important than slugging.
Bourn doesn’t hit for much power, but the guy can take a walk, steal a base and play pretty damn good D. Works for me as long as we aren’t giving up too much.
Shouldn’t a package for Bourn be similar to the package the Cubs gave up for Juan Pierre in the 2005 offseason?
Rick Nolasco, Sergio Mitre, and Renyel Pinto.
Basically, a lefty pitching prospect, a right handed reliever and a left handed reliever.
Obviously, Minor = Nolasco, but who in the Braves system is Mitre and Pinto?
That was also an offseason trade, meaning the Cubs would only get 162 games out of Pierre. The Braves however would be getting 200+ games of Bourn if the trade happened. Because of that, would more have to be included in the trade package beyond what the Cubs gave the Marlins?
But basically, Pierre in 2005 is Bourn in 2011. Minor is Nolasco. Figure out who Mitre and Pinto are within the Braves org
So all of you are getting so excited over a CF who is 11 for 42 which is a .261 avg with 5 extra base hits at Turner Field since the beginning of 2008 and is .083 avg. vs. the Phillies this year. Sorry, not me.
If Kerry Wood really did that he is a moron. I don’t care if we get him either way. It would be nice to have him. But what major leaguer doesn’t want a shot at a title?
7 strong innings by Huddy tonight … thats what I’m talkin about… we need more of that down the stretch with our starters. JJ went 7 his last outing and we saw Beachy go 7 last night. Tommy has gone 6 his last two with wins so a positive there – not to mention he has gone 7 innings seven times this year… and DLowe well looking at his stats for the year he has gone to the 7th inning only TWICE (April 10 and May 17th) a win and a loss respectively. Lets hope Derek gets rolling again like he did last year down the stretch. He was lights out the last month of the season and in the NLDS vs. SF.
