You said an Allstar team on the DL. Chipper while he may have made the Allstar game this year because he is an all time great is no long a premier player in this league. So having one premier player on the dl isn’t a team so you exaggerated quite a bit. Remember we had Utley on the DL for the First 42 games as well as polanco and Victorino were on the DL as well as Oswalt and Blanton so we had injuries too

yeah I would Jason, I said so when he was first mentioned. But I’m also sure that he is a highly thought of prospect by the Braves. He could end up being pretty special…operative word there of course being “could”.

It used to be… sigh. Not because of you, sir. But 5-6 years ago when I first got on this blog all the way up to about a year ago I loved coming on here. Pretty much all last year I stayed away because it got so bad. I came back because I love my Braves, there are good people on this blog, and DOB is an awesome host.

This blog is nice. I usually only visit it during offseason because in season people go nuts. Depending on how the Braves played last night we are either the best or worse team in the league. There is a lot of smart baseball fans here that I enjoy debating things from around the league with. But in season its hard to sit on here why games are going on.

I want to understand the Uggla and Ryan Howard phenomenon. Howard always looks awful early and kills in August and September. Uggla couldn’t do anything now is hot as hell. Howard looks like he is ready for his run right now as is Uggla. I think it shows their mental toughness. What do you guys think

I think it has to do with the fact that we operate under a small budget. Right now we have two guys (Jones, Lowe) that take up a third of our payroll so we have to be able to fill the roster with our farm. We can’t compete for the top FA like we use to and like y’all can now. So I understand holding on to prospects but for a guy that is in single A ball, theres a lot of things that can go wrong in development. And for some of these guys they have no room for advancement. For Bethancourt he is a C, we have McCann, can’t slide McCann to make room for Bethancourt because we have Freeman. To me, hes movable.

Astros GM Ed Wade is keeping an open mind on trades, so it’s possible outfielder Michael Bourn and others could still go. The latest on Bourn:
The Braves are getting more involved on Bourn, tweets Rosenthal. ESPN’s Buster Olney hears the Braves are working hard on getting the center fielder.
The Astros’ efforts to trade Bourn are picking up steam, tweets ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick, and it appears more likely he’ll be dealt by tomorrow’s deadline.

The problem with listening to another team’s feed is that those guys usually don’t do a very good job of prepping for the team they are playing.
They will say stupid stuff about our players (like: Prado is very versatile, he has never really played any OF in his baseball career).
That’s what ticks me off the most. I’m over here saying, “Dummy, that ain’t true!”

UPDATE: The Braves appear to be pushing the hardest for Bourn, tweets ESPN The Magazine’s Buster Olney, citing an NL source. Bourn would almost certainly take over in the leadoff spot as well as roam center field for the Braves, changing the dynamic of their lineup with his speed.

ESPN.com’s Jerry Crasnick tweets Saturday afternoon that the Astros efforts to move Bourn are “picking up steam,” and it appears more likely the outfielder will be moves by the deadline.
We’ve been saying all week that Bourn would be a very nice fit in Atlanta, even more so now that the Braves have lost out on Carlos Beltran and Pence. Of course, it would require the Braves to give up a top pitching prospect such as Mike Minor.

Have to say PhillieFan has been unlike the Phillie poster I would expect. I have no problem with you here. I can’t stand your team and your fans but that being said… I remind you that as you saw last year winning the most games doesnt always get you what you want….many years the Bravos won a ton of games and got beat in the postseason by teams less talented. I DO want to see this team with a nice move before 4pm tomorrow and everyone healthy and see what can happen in October. Phils are rollin’ but a healthy Braves team with a nice addition (bat and relief pitcher) could make this team one to worry about in the postseason. And yes this is the best baseball site to blog and enjoy … GO BRAVOS!!!

I like the thought of Bourn setting the table. And, given what I’ve seen lately, I’m thinking Chipper should bat about 6th. Right in front of Heyward and Gonzo. Chipper could be very productive in that role. Freeman, Mac, and Uggs should be the heart of the order.

I have little use for Shanks except as a cheerleader for the prospects. Of course as soon as you are no longer a prospect but a player he will throw you under the bus for the next newby
Bethancourt is a highly regarded prospect though at position that is always being looked at to better. Phenomenal arm, very athletic -though he still needs some work on mechanics- and he might hit too.No way to know if Bill is right, but his track record is poor no doubt.

It doesn’t matter that Bourn hits left-handed. He would lead off and if we need a right-hand bat, it’s in the middle of the lineup. But the good thing about Bourn’s status, can’t leave until 2013, is exactly as it was with Texiera. Sure would like to have Andrus now. You have to be careful with these trades.
Nice to see Uggla strike out with one out and a runner at third tonight and think Oh, well, it happens to the best of them, rather than, Dang, that’s all he does. Dan is back and he will be a force the rest of the season.
