I missed that one on Boscans……Thanks…….
I was surprised when we sent McLouth down to Gwinnett last season. The Scots were up in arms about it.
Nolee, you would give him up for Bourn, wouldn’t you? I mean, he is in A ball and we do have a pretty decent catcher for the next few years.
July 30th, 20118:53 pm
That’s two groundouts to the catcher for Constanza in two nights, and six groundouts for him in all
Where is that Dennis dude who was raving about Constanza being just the trick? I realize it has only been 2 days, but it seems he has a hard time getting the ball past the pitcher….
Quite sure if Bourn is acquired you won’t be seeing Natey nate again!
Joe Brave….I like that deal except I’d ask for one of their lower tier catchers to be included to fill the gap.

heath – good point bro Lets go wren make the bourn move, forget shafer
I would be shocked if wren backs out!
I knew this guy had absolutely no pop, but couldn’t he at least get the ground ball to the pitcher?
Why are you bitching? You said two names and both of them are perennial all-stars, plus future HOF’s.
I know catching depth is not good for ATL, but you’ve got McCann for the next 10 years I hope. Just draft a good catcher and make him the backup when Ross retires
Constanza is going to be ok…just needs to relax….plus, he’s seeing every pitcher for the first time. that has to suck.
July 30th, 20118:55 pm
Wren, would look awful striking out three times…….
Come on joebrave you’re better than that. Aren’t you? Look it’s a good time to be a phillies fan and we’re all soaking it in. And when the braves take over I expect braves fan to do the same. Phillies are over because this the best baseball blog site in MLB.
July 30th, 20118:56 pm
Get a DP here, Timmy and it’s all good.
make a trade, any trade!! over pay for a minimal upgrade if you have to!!!!
do all the untouchables know they are untouchable?
what happens if an unsuspecting person accidentally bumps them or something?
My guess is that Constanza will be back up in Gwinnett tomorrow or the next day.
July 30th, 20118:57 pm
You said an Allstar team on the DL. Chipper while he may have made the Allstar game this year because he is an all time great is no long a premier player in this league. So having one premier player on the dl isn’t a team so you exaggerated quite a bit. Remember we had Utley on the DL for the First 42 games as well as polanco and Victorino were on the DL as well as Oswalt and Blanton so we had injuries too
Ward, I don’t see anything on SI about the Braves getting Bourn by the deadline.
at least constanza is hitting the ball on the ground as opposed to the many pop outs that jordan hits. Of course, power to get it past the catcher would be nice
Brave4life-1995 all over again??
July 30th, 20118:58 pm
Bethancourt is an outstanding catching prospect – great defense. Been compared to Benito Santiago defensively
yeah I would Jason, I said so when he was first mentioned. But I’m also sure that he is a highly thought of prospect by the Braves. He could end up being pretty special…operative word there of course being “could”.
By the way the Phillies and Braves could possibly end the Pirates season. The road trip of Atlanta and Philly is a tough one this time of year for a young club

July 30th, 2011
It used to be… sigh. Not because of you, sir. But 5-6 years ago when I first got on this blog all the way up to about a year ago I loved coming on here. Pretty much all last year I stayed away because it got so bad. I came back because I love my Braves, there are good people on this blog, and DOB is an awesome host.
I don’t mind the Phillie fans here as long as they’re not being douchebags.
No top prospects dealt please! Send them McLouth, Kawakami and Hicks for Bourn…………..
What Did I miss?
I’m Full As A Rat after eating 4 Big Boy Brats, A Grilled Chicken Breast, A Salmon Plank, and a Big Boy Salad…
I have My Cajun New York Strip Entree “On Deck” For 10pm
No Phillies fan, that isn’t all, but that is all I am going to give, yes you have a good team, but the pen still oozes runs consistently. not taking anything away from the Phils, but didn’t want to take anything home from Philly either!
K with a K
Chop Chop….We cannot trade Bethancourt. He plays a position for one of our minor league affiliates.
July 30th, 20119:00 pm
A K works for me, too. Hold steady, Hudson.
Yes, you beat us last year, fair and square. Six game difference in the standings, if I remember. Congratulations. Enjoy it. Bask in reflected glory. Then STFU and go elsewhere, because we really don’t want you around.
Thats because your not looking in the right place.
July 30th, 20119:01 pm
I really don’t understand some of your obsessions with these prospects. You have pitching depth. Bourn can really help you.
July 30th, 20119:02 pm
We love to hug our prospects here in cyber land….
This blog is nice. I usually only visit it during offseason because in season people go nuts. Depending on how the Braves played last night we are either the best or worse team in the league. There is a lot of smart baseball fans here that I enjoy debating things from around the league with. But in season its hard to sit on here why games are going on.
DOB stop tweeting? Something up, or did he go get a BBQ sandwich?
July 30th, 2011
“Thats because your not looking in the right place.”
Well………then show us where
July 30th, 20119:03 pm
Almost got Stanton there.
It appears that the Indians are getting a fourth player, Jon Heyman of SI.com reports (on Twitter).
Go to SI,and click Braves it’s right there……..
Huddy’s getting up close to 100 pitches. Maybe he can give us 1 more inning, then bring on Kimmie for another easy save.
Nice play, Marteeen
DOB quit tweeting, maybe he went to get a big boy meal..
July 30th, 20119:04 pm
DOB bashed the Turner Field food options pretty good today on Twitter… doubt he’s eating. Seriously.
I am just a lot calmer than I used to be, watch a lot of what I say, too many lunatics that take what ya mean the wrong way……. So I don’t engage in detrimental rhetoric there Phils Fan. You have a nice little team, not so nice of a city, and I personally despise your pignosed 1B. You are alright as best I remember, now the other Philly trolls wellll not so much!
July 30th, 2011
“DOB stop tweeting? Something up, or did he go get a BBQ sandwich?”
My money is on BBQ sandwich. And that’s ok. A man has to eat.
Jimenez to Cleveland is now apparently 4 players for him. If true, I think the Indians just got hosed.
I guess we can cut him a little slack, huh?
Go to baseball, and teams click Braves, and it will say the Braves are pushing hard for Bourn.
July 30th, 20119:05 pm
Huddy going one more?
I want to understand the Uggla and Ryan Howard phenomenon. Howard always looks awful early and kills in August and September. Uggla couldn’t do anything now is hot as hell. Howard looks like he is ready for his run right now as is Uggla. I think it shows their mental toughness. What do you guys think
The A Bomb
Gotta hand it to THE PEOPLE’S GM Mark Shapiro….Keeps his fan base informed on Twitter and then goes out and clowns the Yanks! LOL!
Oh yeah….we have Frank “Stalin” Wren….everything behind the Peachtree Curtain.
sounds a lot like T’hawk
Ward, it was a link on SI to talkingchop.com. It wasn’t SI’s opinion.
Huddy’s done his job.
Venters hasn’t pitched since Tuesday. Kimbrel hasn’t pitched since Wednesday. Let those dudes handle this.
Ward, your source is a fan blog.
July 30th, 20119:06 pm
I think it has to do with the fact that we operate under a small budget. Right now we have two guys (Jones, Lowe) that take up a third of our payroll so we have to be able to fill the roster with our farm. We can’t compete for the top FA like we use to and like y’all can now. So I understand holding on to prospects but for a guy that is in single A ball, theres a lot of things that can go wrong in development. And for some of these guys they have no room for advancement. For Bethancourt he is a C, we have McCann, can’t slide McCann to make room for Bethancourt because we have Freeman. To me, hes movable.
I wonder….will DOB be the first journo that Wren calls when the deal is done? Or will Heyman or one of those national guys break it first?
Chris from the Rock
If someone was to ask me if Costanza holds onto the leadoff spot past this weekend, I would say PROGNOSIS NEGATIVE.
July 30th, 20119:07 pm
My money is on another cup of coffee.
Is Dontrelle Willis really only 29? Seems like he’s been around forever.
Bethancourt is great defensively, I’d compare him to Charles Johnson.
You’ve got to give something to get something
I’ll trade you the Marlins announcers for Joe & Chip. They black out the Braves feed down here every time they play the Marlins.
LOL, keylargo, I hear you on that. Every time I listen to announcers from other teams, I promise I won’t b!tch about Joe and Chip so much anymore. But then I listen to Joe and Chip and they get on my nerves. But I know what you are saying.
Yeah, even SuperDave has to eat. He doesn’t sleep, you know.
SI, has been accurate!
July 30th, 20119:08 pm
Martin still pull happy…..Needs to work on oppo.
OK, send them Proctor, Boscan and Constanza for Bourn.
The thing with Constanza is that he stubbornly refuses to believe that the edge of the dirt cutout in front of home plate is not the fence.
so far they seem to be pitching him like I said they would. over power him in the zone cause he ain’t gonna hurt you much if he does get the bat on the ball.
But is not SI, Ward. It is a link to a fan blog.
July 30th, 20119:09 pm
How old are you?
I said C. Jones, B. McCann, J. Schafer, N, McClouth, among others. Two of which are perennial All-Stars and will go into the HOF
You are scared of the Braves (just like the Phils) and that is why you are here.
Go eat a cheesesteak and shut the hell up.
I can’t take Shanks seriously. Christian Bethancourt? Leading a trade for Michael Bourn? I don’t buy it.
relax people, ward is on it..
No problem joebrave. I’m up to no good and damn proud of it.
Michael Bourn Rumors: Saturday
By Tim Dierkes [July 30 at 3:02pm CST]
Astros GM Ed Wade is keeping an open mind on trades, so it’s possible outfielder Michael Bourn and others could still go. The latest on Bourn:
The Braves are getting more involved on Bourn, tweets Rosenthal. ESPN’s Buster Olney hears the Braves are working hard on getting the center fielder.
The Astros’ efforts to trade Bourn are picking up steam, tweets ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick, and it appears more likely he’ll be dealt by tomorrow’s deadline.
There is the source Billy. MLB Traderumors
July 30th, 20119:10 pm
I loved to listen to Ron Santo. Dude lived and died with every play.
Andrew in PA
braves beat up the pirates and phillies are knocking them out
July 30th, 20119:11 pm
WW and key
The problem with listening to another team’s feed is that those guys usually don’t do a very good job of prepping for the team they are playing.
They will say stupid stuff about our players (like: Prado is very versatile, he has never really played any OF in his baseball career).
That’s what ticks me off the most. I’m over here saying, “Dummy, that ain’t true!”
SoWeGa Fanatic, I did too.
UPDATE: The Braves appear to be pushing the hardest for Bourn, tweets ESPN The Magazine’s Buster Olney, citing an NL source. Bourn would almost certainly take over in the leadoff spot as well as roam center field for the Braves, changing the dynamic of their lineup with his speed.
Hunter Pence has his ticket out of Houston. Could Michael Bourn be far behind?
ESPN.com’s Jerry Crasnick tweets Saturday afternoon that the Astros efforts to move Bourn are “picking up steam,” and it appears more likely the outfielder will be moves by the deadline.
We’ve been saying all week that Bourn would be a very nice fit in Atlanta, even more so now that the Braves have lost out on Carlos Beltran and Pence. Of course, it would require the Braves to give up a top pitching prospect such as Mike Minor.
Ward……its a link on SI not a source of SI…..
Here is the link from SI

No-longer-quite-Every-Day Jonny pitching 8th for Bravos
Enter your comments here
Maybe DOB got a Philly Cheese Steak sandwich.
July 30th, 20119:12 pm
I would absolutely give up Bethancourt for Bourn. If you can keep the four pitchers, Pastornicky and Salcedo, you gotta make that trade.
If it is taking Wren this long to make a deal, im guessing we wont be making any more then one tops. Even with “bourn” braves still need another piece.
SemperFi… Chipper is a hall of Famer definitely. But it is a little early to put McCann there. He has a chance though
July 30th, 20119:13 pm
I’m still trying to figure out how Constanza got some many triples in AAA???
Rumours of the death of our starting pitching turned out to be exaggerated.
Have to say PhillieFan has been unlike the Phillie poster I would expect. I have no problem with you here. I can’t stand your team and your fans but that being said… I remind you that as you saw last year winning the most games doesnt always get you what you want….many years the Bravos won a ton of games and got beat in the postseason by teams less talented. I DO want to see this team with a nice move before 4pm tomorrow and everyone healthy and see what can happen in October. Phils are rollin’ but a healthy Braves team with a nice addition (bat and relief pitcher) could make this team one to worry about in the postseason. And yes this is the best baseball site to blog and enjoy … GO BRAVOS!!!
July 30th, 2011
SI, has been accurate!
Dadgum, Ward’s bilingual?
Not arguin with you Ward or giving you a hard time. Just pointing it out.
Bourn has a lower OPS over the last 3 seasons than Melky
I like the thought of Bourn setting the table. And, given what I’ve seen lately, I’m thinking Chipper should bat about 6th. Right in front of Heyward and Gonzo. Chipper could be very productive in that role. Freeman, Mac, and Uggs should be the heart of the order.
Damn G key still doesn’t work on this laptop.
July 30th, 20119:14 pm
I have little use for Shanks except as a cheerleader for the prospects. Of course as soon as you are no longer a prospect but a player he will throw you under the bus for the next newby
Bethancourt is a highly regarded prospect though at position that is always being looked at to better. Phenomenal arm, very athletic -though he still needs some work on mechanics- and he might hit too.No way to know if Bill is right, but his track record is poor no doubt.
Bring On Vennie-Macc!!!!!!!!
Mitch McConnell's Chins
It doesn’t matter that Bourn hits left-handed. He would lead off and if we need a right-hand bat, it’s in the middle of the lineup. But the good thing about Bourn’s status, can’t leave until 2013, is exactly as it was with Texiera. Sure would like to have Andrus now. You have to be careful with these trades.
Nice to see Uggla strike out with one out and a runner at third tonight and think Oh, well, it happens to the best of them, rather than, Dang, that’s all he does. Dan is back and he will be a force the rest of the season.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
