chc4… if those 2 prospects don’t make it which there is decent chance with any A ballplayer then its not a failure. if you guys don’t win a WS in the next 5 years then your inactivity is a failure. It works both ways

I don’t think more than 1 or 2 prospects should be untouchable. Honestly, I think EVERY player can be traded, as long as their is equal value coming back.

@DOB- i realize you are a columnist but i think it’s a bit unfair to characterize the braves players as you have…..i realize that you have been ringing the big trade bell all week long, and that’s fine, but using the players to support your position is a bit much-unless you polled 15-20 of them i think it’s a tad over the top.

So basically, the Astros got two of the guys who people think are among the 50 best baseball players who arent good enough to be major leaguers
That is NOT a king’s ransom for a team that is a serious playoff contender.
Because prospects, since they arent good enough to be big leaguers, will not help you win playoff games on the field, The ONLY way they can help a big league team win it all is if they can be used to get some real major leaguers for the team
You can NOT have it both ways. You are either trying to win, or you are not.
And if you are trying to win now, then your prospects are a commodity to be cashed in to help achieve that goal.

noilee- Otis Nixon being an obvious exception. But for whatever reason, later on, BC never seemed to embrace the speed game afterwards. As fast as Furcal was, he only stole more than 30 bases twice in his career with Atlanta. The one year we had Loften, he stole on 27 bases (on 47 attempts). By far one of his worst years in this category during his prime.

If you’re going to make a trade, make a significant one. Trade for Matt Kemp. At this point I think the only untouchables should be Tehran, Vizcaino, and Pastornicky. I might even throw in Viz at this point. Kemp is the best RH bat on a non-contending team.

Gonzalez said Heyward has been putting in extra work in an effort to break out of the slump. On Saturday, prior to taking batting practice, he worked in the team’s indoor cage with hitting coach Larry Parrish and instructor Lee Elia.
