@Ralph – Not all that worried about the last 8 games. It’s a small sample. Braves still have a nice lead in the Wild Card and are still within hailing distance of the Phillies.

Pitching is too strong to have a lengthy losing streak. If this team gets healthy and starts putting the ball in play with a runner on 3B and less than 2 outs (a BIG if) they’re gonna be fine. Lowe won’t get a start in the playoffs. Bobby Cox loves veterans, but Fredi will go with the hot hands.

Nollee… I wasn’t asking for you to tell me anything. I hate the Yankees, but I’ll say this, they always do what is best for the ballclub. Of course they don’t win every year, but that’s nearly impossible in this day and age. The Braves, on the other hand, are too cheap and too obsessed with minor leaguers to do what is best for the team. Say what you want, but I’m right.

my guess in a pinch he probably could

anybody CAN play short, even Adam Dunn. but realistically not if the pinch lasted more than one game. he has no range nor enough arm for the throw from deep short to be regularly successful.

With a good pitching staff and average hitting, you need solid defense up the middle. Bad defense loses games. That’s why, to his credit, Fredi wants to play AGon and Schafer. A better offensive player may win a game or two, but a good defensive player can avoid losing a game or two.

When ever the Derek Lowe from last years stretch runs shows up then we will have a rotation good enough to not make a move. Truth is, he isnt and smoltzy and maddawg arent walking through the door anytime soon. We gotta have the pieceS to make a decent run.

I fully expect to see one of the Braves elite pitching prospects in the bullpen if they make the playoffs along with Lowe. Lowe is excellent the 1st time through the lineup. He is horrid the 2nd and 3rd time. Makes sense to have him in the pen.

about the rest? maybe not so much. The YanKs have won just about the same umber of games over the last 2o years with a payroll this is now always double and sometimes near triple the Braves.

I think someone need to test Wren ASAP to see if he is on drugs .Seriously.Our lineup even when healthy is week.We having hard time scoring runs.We need a power hitter.Someone like pence and or Quentin. And Instead Wren is focusing on getting Ryan Ludwick.I mean look at the Phillies. They doing everything they can they to win now.The Phillies prospect are not as good as the Braves.Yet they are trying to do everything they can to win the World Series .Maybe I am wrong but is not the goal to do everything you can to reach the World Series and win it?

I say we get Upton and Byrd. But would love both Q and Upton. What is stoping us from getting Q and Upton…we have the talent is it the cost of both players going forward. With the chance of not seeing Chipper a ton this year maybe if that knee is still a problem we could play both on a reg basis. Plus next year our OF would be LF Q CF Upton and RF J-Hey.

Tomas

7:28 pm

I like Willingham’s bat, he’s Oakland best hitter, consider that’s a very tough ballpark, and he was an offense Machine with the Nats, great OBP, power vs lefties and clutch. Now defense, awful, almost Adam Dunn awful, he can play LF barely, has played RF(when the Nats had the worst defense in mlb).

Ludwick as DOB pointed out, can play all 3 OF positions decently. But not really worth it, his bat won’t make a difference.

I like BJ Upton, Carlos Quentin, and as a last resort Josh Willingham. Theyve certain talents that will make a difference be that power, speed, and defense

The Phillies have a leadoff hitter that teams have to account for. Thats why they score early!!!

We haven’t had a good one(Can take piches and work deep in the count without striking out, bunt for hits, spray the ball around the field and make contact, make pitchers have to throw over and slide step to make pitchers work and concentrate less on getting hitters out, make the defense account for speed, steal bases……..)! and then play a solid OF.

We haven’t had one since Otis.

Get Bourn if the Astros are stupid enough to deal him!!

We really can’t worry about the Phillies, I really don’t think they are going to be caught anyway. Just get the piece(s) needed and play like they did before the break and the WC should be easy for the Braves to obtain.
