Oh, I have no doubt you want him. But you and I both know it’s not happening. Unlike some folks who apparently think we can give up less then our top guys for him. Especially when he’s NOT AVAILABLE. (ok. really have to be done now.)
No offense but its gonna cost 3 of our top 4 specs to get a guy like Kemp
A GM would be an idiot to trade away 3 or 4 top prospects for 1 player – especially when his team has budgetary limitations. What happened with Teixiera turned out much worse because some of those “other” minor leaguers ended up being quite decent. With this move you are suggesting, it’s almost guaranteed to be worse.
Maybe they don’t, but they have to do something if the EVER want to compete with the Yankees and Red Sox again. They have to follow the Tampa philosphy and stack up on young talent. Sending up Jones and Lee could net them a big haul.

Salcedo’s issue is his footwork he covers the whole side of the field and then makes throws from every position under the sun.He has his moments attitude wise but overall a good kid.
That is probably the deal they offered to the Astros
No offense but its gonna cost 3 of our top 4 specs to get a guy like Kemp
I disagree the Dodgers can’t even make payroll and are trading Furcal most likely. I seriously think they would take a long hard look at 5 cheap prospects.
Minor, Hoover, Schafer, Betancourt, and a lessor outfield prospect is a lot for anyone.
Matt Kemp has not been the most consistent you know. He has been ridiculed on and off for not being the savior and I doubt he will ever be able to carry a team by himself. They better trade him now why the stock is high.
Minor, Hoover, Schafer, Betancourt, a lessor prospect and cash for Matt Kemp is going to be the deal. Come on people get on board when we combine our good vibes together we can make it happen.
I’m surprised to see attendance to come on deadline week-end, but since it did, something struck me yesterday that I thought I’d share . . .
More and more, school districts around the country are beginning the school year closer to August 1st, whereas 50 years ago, it was consistently after September 1st.
20ish years ago, as I was going through school, we generally began during the 4th week of August (usually around August 25).
As more kids are in school on August 1, vacation time for taking trips to see ball games, as well as week night attendance is bound to be hampered.
As we’ve discussed ad nauseum, the Braves are very popular, but a large portion of their attendance is driven by regional supports (greater GA, AL, MS, TN, KY, FL, NC, SC, VA) and with kids in school, that attendance is destined to dwindle.
The attendance thing…..it gets old. Atlanta only has 450,000 within the city limits. That may be the smallest city in the majors. There are 5.5 million outside the city limits but people aren’t going to leave work from downtown, drive through the stinkin’ traffic to Alpharetta, pick up the family and head back to Atlanta for a game. Especially during the week when school is in. The idiots who run the government in Atlanta made it worse by not allowing MARTA to actually go to the stadium like every other normal city. If you want to increase attendance, move the stadium to some place on the north side where the people are.
If you’ve watched Salcedo play over the course of a season, like I have, you would know what bull your statement is.
“Salcedo’s issue is his footwork he covers the whole side of the field and then makes throws from every position under the sun.”
His enormous error rate is not due to his range. If the play is that difficult, and not successful, the scorekeeper does not penalize him by giving him the error. They give the batter a hit. Baseball 101. He’s not adept in fielding(at this time) and will end up in left field eventually if this continues. Nothing personal against the guy, just an observation. He has figured the batting piece out with his second year in Rome, which is good to see.
MUDGE – You may be right, but I thought Charlie was very adamant that Polanco hit at the top of the Phil’s order. I like the idea of having someone of Victorino’s caliber at the bottom of our order. He is very productive (from both a runs and RBI perspective), has great speed, etc. Bottom line is this: the Pence acquisition affords Charlie a ton of flexibility! Pence was a GREAT pick-up for the dynamics of the Phillie’s current lineup.
Enough with the colusion…The Astros were obviously happier with what they were getting from the Phillies over the Braves. There will be no investigation by the league, these accusations are without merit.
