let’s see Constanza fly
McFann O O Get Well Soon, BMac!!!
Yay! Congrats, big guy!
Way to go kid!!!!!
Stranded At 3rd With No Outs
I’m of the opinion that Philly overpaid for Pence. I like Hunter, I got to watch him play in person a lot his very first year in pro ball as a Houston minor league team plays in my town (oddly Upstate NY) I identified him as a guy then that I’d wish the Braves would get someday but he’s not worth 2 top 50 guys plus 2 more on top of having to pay him north of $20 million the next two years. He’s a solid player who makes Philly better yes but I wasn’t scared off Philly before and I won’t be now. THe Braves are hanging with the Phils and need to make a move but in no way am I laying down and giving up on the rest of the season because the Phils get a little bit better. Let’s get healthy add a bat, saddle up and play some baseball. It’ll make it all the more fun when the Braves beat Philly
…having said all that if Braves have to give up Olberholtzer for Ludwick then I’ll be pissed.
Congrats Jose 1st RBI
Good job Costanza.
The rook has taken away Kimbrel’s save opp.
JC from DR! (You gotta tip your cap to ____)
First career Hit and RBI. Congrats to Constanza!!
July 29th, 20119:52 pm
now get your first SB!!!!
Costanza is the man-za. !!!
Good for him!
Now steal a base
Nick Parrish is from here in central florida and he is a hick.
id take stubbs over pence or bourn anyday…jonny
really? hmmm. He’s a great athlete but nothing really special as a hitter actually 655 career away from Cincy. and its not like he is really a youngster. He might equal Bourn but certainly not Pence
WTF…I knew if Pence was considered the prize at this year’s trade deadline, the Phillies would get him. MLB or someone should investigate that team…like where are they getting all this money. They’re not owned by any corporation or billionaire, they don’t have their own tv station, and they have 4 other MLB teams in a 150 mile radius from them.
And everyone says they have nothing in their farm sysytem after trading about 10 of their top prospects away for Lee, Halladay, and Oswalt. Yet they have 5 rookies on their active roster (all contributing) and before this latest trade, when I go on the sites rating minor league systems, the Phillies are near the top. Something ain’t right!
True on our .300 hitter on the DL. That hurts.
JC from DR
I agree 100% what’s the obesssion of Pence?
BooHoo Philly got him now every1 is tears
I read something earlier that made sense. Pence may be having a career year partly due to the Stros being so bad. The pitchers don’t have to pitch him as tough and lay it in for him more.
July 29th, 20119:53 pm
If we only had to play the 7th,8th, and 9th of every game, we would be realllly good.
The answer is no, the Braves have no .300 hitter that is healthy. McCann is hitting over .300, but is currently on the disabled list. I must say though, give me guys who get on base consistently over guys who just hit .300.
When is Alex Gonzalez gonna get his first big league hit?
Sit Kimbrel down!
Zippy the Pinhead
Kawakami is more likely to be traded for a bag of ant coprolites.
Nova Scotia Steve
Don’t forget – when McCann comes off the DL, its just like adding a power hitting all-star catcher at the deadline.
Just puked in my mouth a little in anticipation of those comments from someone.
July 29th, 20119:54 pm
yay Constanza WTG dude in your first MLB game
Dude that George Constanza can fly.
Run, run, run!
Thankfully, everyone is ignoring katherine… especially since no one recognizes her and this is probably her first time on the blog. Good first impression, huh?
I think part of it is with Shafer and McLouth are hurt so FW realizes that we need a speedy CF more than anything now. Could we work it out to trade for Bourn with the stipulation that we trade him back to the Astros during the offseason? That would probably drive the price of prospects down if that’s what Wren is worried about. Then we’ll have a good bit of money to sign a free agent when guys like Chipper come off the books, so we can solve our issues that way.
THIS IS WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT!!!!
BEEN WAITING ON CONSTANZA TO GET HIS SHOT FOR A LOOOOONG TIME.
DENNIS REYNOLDS FOR GM.
How do you give up a player like pence for two guys in single a ball? I don’t understand that move by Houston are they even trying to get better.
July 29th, 20119:55 pm
Wait… did you see that? .295 now for Freeman going in to his AB. My how far he has come this year.
If Stubbs is a possibility, he is a better option than everybody else being mentioned as possibilities for Atlanta. Right handed, with power and speed and plays great defense at CF
If Fredi puts in Kimbrel or Venters, Im driving up to the Ted to personally *************** Fredi.
My friend is 18, just graduated high school and already has 2 kids. I feel so sorry for her. She says she’s happy but you know she isn’t. Rachel, if you’re reading this blog, I’m sorry.
Hugo Z Hackenbush
Constanza now has a better BA than Schafer. Didn’t take much, did it?
July 29th, 20119:56 pm
Don’t you love it when we stop a hitting streak?!!!
Freddie is a lumberjack, and he’s OK.
Freddie dares people to throw over the plate….or just off outside…or just in…
Freeman should just swing for the downs… HR is the goal. If he misses, sac fly.
I’m ready to give Freddy the gold glove and ROY!
July 29th, 20119:57 pm
Why do we have to pick up the scraps of players like Drew Stubbs? WE should be the ones going after Bourn. Although, I think im looking at our new CF.
He’s not that awesome:
But look what we run out there?
But like I believe, if Lowe + cash and Minor would have gotten us Rasmus… Beachy is a solid #4, in the playoffs you don’t need 5 starters anyhow.
The Cards did get a MLB ready pitcher for Ramus… so I doubt Minor alone would have done it.
8:54pm: Pitching prospect Josh Zeid will also go to the Astros in the deal, tweets Jim Salisbury of CSN Philly.
Man he’s fast
There’s your sac fly.
Sac Flies kick butt! Finally.
Mark this day. We got a sacfly.
Sac fly!Sac fly!Sac fly!Sac fly!Sac fly!Sac fly!Sac fly!Sac fly!Sac fly!Sac fly!Sac fly!Sac fly!Sac fly!Sac fly!Sac fly!
LOL….any thing will score that kid!!!!!
There is the big sac fly…….
His forty may be sub 4
July 29th, 20119:58 pm
maybe the fastest guy ive ever seen
I’m not too concerned to see Beltran and Pence go elsewhere, because the best options for the Braves are still on the board. Bourn is our best bet. We need a center fielder. Then, let’s get Quentin. We need a right handed bat in the lineup. He can play in right when a lefty is one the mound, and he can play in left when Chipper is out. When Chipper retires, leftfield is his and hopefully Heyward has matured as a baseball player into the stud we all think/hope he is.
While we are at it, let’s rid ourselves of some of the bodies taking up space on the roster — Lugo and Procter. We should promote Patrornicky and let Gonzales mentor him and come in for late inning defensive purposes. Also, if we have so many good arms in the system, we can surely promote some of them to strengthen our big league pitching staff.
Just so you know…..that was ONLY the 2nd SAC FLY since May 27th….
Damn. I love Freddie Freeman.
Take That Nolie
Thats why we need a Leadoff hitter with speed who can get on base
The obsession with pence is that he is hitting .307 with 62 RBI a few stolen bases and 11 hr and 49 runs, those are better numbers than anyone on the braves roster that’s why we were drooling over him.
Sac fly because we had some speed on base for a change
can’t coach speed and speed kills.
Way to go Constanza
Now that Beltran and Pence are both gone…I’m willing to bet money that if Frank Wren makes a move, it will be for someone that’s not being mentioned at this time.
The one thing about Beltran and Pence that stood out from the other options were that those were not be traded as platoon players.
Granted center field is a need with both McLouth and Schafer on the DL but maybe now we need to quickly shift the focus to getting a right handed bat regardless of position to provide depth. Maybe someone like a Ty Wiggington who can play multiple positions and provide some pop.
Man that kid can FLY…..
DOB, thanks for mentioning lack of Sac fly. We finally got in
Swing for the downs again Popeye!
July 29th, 20119:59 pm
I swear he is the fastest guy in the world
Dan wants that back!
Get Michael Bourn and I will be happy. Would love to upgrade at SS too but doesn’t look possible.
The A Bomb
A manufactured run. Stop the game and have a ceremony.
Do you have Rachel’s phone number? I have a bottle of beer and some weed.
July 29th, 201110:00 pm
actually Katherine is a breath of fresh air….. thank you…
Love beating up on old teammates not named Omar Infante and Matty D.
DOB please tell me his forty
When’s the last time that we had this big of a lead?
I’m starting to think every CF in our system is better in some way than Nate.
Really happy for Constanza.
One potential developing answer could be Drew Stubbs, if the Reds add Bourn without sending Stubbs to Houstin in return.
Would love that.
Why are people here trashing Drew Stubbs, but praising BJ Upton?
Now that Costanza has scored a run, Wren probably feels we have our Bourn. I can just hear him now.
Uggla has a red/black bat. What is he, a UGA fan?
My gosh 5 runs they don’t need help.
July 29th, 201110:01 pm
If Stubbs is a possibility, he is a better option than everybody else being mentioned as possibilities for Atlanta…Tomas
a career 655 hitter away from home? He might be as good as Bourn but if so why would they trade for Bourn and trade Stubbs?, but being better than anybody else is more an indictment of what is available than a props to his hitting ability. I’d much prefer Carlos though I fail to see why they would trade him unless swamped by an offer
jonny are you his mama or something or just drunk and stupid?
Again, why pick up the scraps?? We have more than enough the get Bourn….
Constanza stuffed the stat sheet tonight. hit, run, rbi. Not bad.
“My friend is 18, just graduated high school and already has 2 kids. I feel so sorry for her. She says she’s happy but you know she isn’t. Rachel, if you’re reading this blog, I’m sorry.”
Now back to regular programming
Stubbs killing lefties, 900 OPS by the way. Struggling a lot vs righties, possible platoon candidate with Schafer if neither figure it out all the way.
He does play in that ballpark though.
Always nice to see someone get their first Big League hit. Especially when it is some one who has toiled in the minor for years and years….
July 29th, 201110:02 pm
I still think the best thing the Braves can do is add both Michael Bourn and Reed Johnson. They should be able to afford that.
Linebrink has a 3.02 ERA if you haven’t noticed.
I wonder what jersey number Carlos Quentin will wear in Atlanta?
Well we still have plenty of pitching! They better shut everyone out, like tonight because our offense is about as weak as any team in either league. Thanks Frank!
