C’mon McLouth! Get better! Already miss you!
July 29th, 20118:10 pm
Is there a conditioning coach on the brave’s staff? Maybe they need a new one or at leats one. These are muscle pulls.
McFann O O Get Well Soon, BMac!!!
July 29th, 20118:12 pm
Has it been 15 days yet?
July 29th, 20118:13 pm
I’ve been patient and supportive of McClouth, but this DL list thing seems to getting more like “flu like symptoms.” I’m ready for McClouth to move on and the Braves need to make it clear to future players that they make millions of dollars and minor injuries are not DL worthy. Especially in a pennant race. I’m just not buying into McClouth anymore.

Hey Boss: Why is Furky a bad fit?
July 29th, 20118:15 pm
Just read on MLB Trade Rumors that the Phillies and Astros are closing in on a Hunter Pence deal. So our division rivals will get much stronger while we have a desperate need for a player like Pence and will end up with another teams scraps like Ludwick or Willingham. Seems about par for the course for the Braves.
July 29th, 20118:16 pm
Wren will NEVER deal with Furcal’s agent after getting worked by him.
Don’t think we will miss McClouth
Like your logic on Quentin.
You GM you….

Our Braves suck, we need a SS who can hit and that will hustle, a CF that can hit at least .250
a RF that can hit and a ream team trainer that player are contractually bound to follow.
Do any of these guys on the team stretch? We have more muscle pulls and strains than the rest
of all the teams in baseball.
July 29th, 20118:26 pm
real team trainer that players are contractually bound to follow.
July 29th, 20118:27 pm
I think Wren’s plan is wait till next year…..
…he should be thankful his job is not an elected one…..
July 29th, 20118:28 pm
July 29th, 20118:29 pm
These oblique (abdomen) pulls do seem rampant in ATL: McLouth, Chipper, McCann, McLouth again.
Situps, roman chair, bag jumps, sit on the wall, lift some darn weights. McLouth and Chipper are falling apart and we must part company with them.
July 29th, 20118:30 pm
Should have called up OF’er Jorge Seinfeld.
July 29th, 20118:31 pm
If the Braves do not make a move I think Wren needs to be fired.
July 29th, 20118:32 pm
Hendu : It’s knowing when to lay off the legal supplament CREATINE.
July 29th, 20118:36 pm
So it takes Minor and who else to get Pence?
July 29th, 20118:37 pm
Wren has done a great job with the budget he has to work with. Who would you Wren haters rather have in his place?
He will come through this time, but won’t needlessly mortgaging the future. Even if we get Pence, not sure we’re going to do any better than the wildcard.
Ace of Hearts
July 29th, 20118:39 pm
Why would we trade for a corner outfielder? who is going to sit Heyward or Prado? Assuming that Chipper is playing third.
July 29th, 20118:42 pm
If we do not make a move there is no free agents that we can sign in the off season, so the offense will be just as bad next year
You are right Jimbo, even with a big move the WC is probably the best that can be hoped for. Then the hot team will win the playoffs. Look no further than the Marlins for proof. They have one more World Championship than the braves.
Well Jimbo…that’s what we want at this point…win the wild card and get in the playoffs.
July 29th, 20118:45 pm
Leave it alone i say, no need to disband talent that the Braves have in the cupboard. It has been a while since Bravos had arms in the wait. The team will recover with what it has, no need to think “2011″ when the season is in full stride. Check the record, injuries have played throughout all year, and yet still involved, why cross the centerline now?
July 29th, 20118:46 pm
Ace of Hearts, so you don’t want to sit Heyward and his .222 batting average? I think he hits every other pitch back to the pitcher. I’d bench in a heartbeat.
July 29th, 20118:47 pm
West, sounds like the same thing people were saying last season
July 29th, 20118:49 pm
Come on, even if they wanted to fire Wren, who would do it? A faceless
PO BOX in Colorado?
But Pete remember last season? Farnsworth, Ankiel and Lee. Please, not again
July 29th, 20118:52 pm
I agree, half assed trades for half assed players. If you are going to make a freaking deal, make it worth it.
TIRED OF MEDIOCRITY
July 29th, 20119:01 pm
Frank Wren had better hurry up and get with the program or there will be no playoffs..Sorry Frank but you have got to give up something to get something.Minor at best is a 3 starter and Pence is an allstar so come on and pull the plug.
Per mlb trade rumors a deal for Pence is expected to be completed tonight
by the phillies.
I hate frank wren
July 29th, 20119:02 pm
NO Willingham, NO Ludwick…give up one of the big 4 for Pence. Why can’t he play CF? Already would have to face Beltran and the Giants in round 1…then Pence in Philly if we get to the NLCS?? Can’t let that happen! Getting him would be a good offensive (i.e., make the Braves better) and a good defensive (i.e., prevent Philly from getting better) move!
Its being said that the Phillies and Astros are close to a deal and its expected tonight. Braves will be looking up at the Phillies not only this year, but for several years to come. Pence is available to them next season, and if he produces, they will more than likely sign him long term. The Braves can never sign a high profile player because of their cheap arse ownership group. It sure would be nice for just once to get the players that will help this team get to, and win the World Series. Those days are long over for the Atlanta Braves.
July 29th, 20119:03 pm
Frank, throw Uggla in with Minor for Pence. Pence can play LF and Prado can go back to 2B and the team batting average will go up.
July 29th, 20119:05 pm
Wren sat on his hands far to long and the more aggressive (in every category imaginable) team in the Phillies gave up what was needed to land a very good player like Pence. That’s what happens when you sit idly by and are in denial about what your team needs. Maybe one day the Braves will get back to being the Atlanta Braves.
July 29th, 20119:07 pm
wish i knew half as much as all the experts here–i do agree with o’brain-more stretching–and maybe less weights—jus sayin—go braves!!!
Too bad that until we get a real owner this is what we have to deal with every season. This team was and will be sold as a tax break opportunity. Forget Wren for now, we need new owners!! And yes, if he sits pat then we are pretty much screwed. How many of the “Big 4″ are in the majors next year? MAYBE 2? ONE? Why not trade one for the bat we need now? We stock pile pitchers but never hitters. They should try to go after developing hitters in the minors too…
Why The Braves Shouldn’t Trade for Hunter Pence « Joe Sportswriter
July 29th, 20119:09 pm
[...] Pence isn’t the greatest baserunner and he also is an average fielder at best. Worse yet, the Braves are in need of a centerfielder, and Pence also does not fill that need. This is especially true after Nate McLouth was recently placed on the 15-day DL. [...]
July 29th, 20119:11 pm
Philly is dismantling the team that just hammered on the Braves. Beating the Pirates 8-0. Now add Hunter Pence to that mix, and they now easily have a World Series winning team. How can a team lose a guy like Jason Werth and then be better? I guess its because their front office is smarter than ours, and the owners have deeper pockets than the losers we have. Its a shame.
July 29th, 20119:12 pm
I would offer Heyward and Minor for Pence and Bourn in a heart beat

Why The Braves Shouldn’t Trade for Hunter Pence « Joe Sportswriter
well said Joe
July 29th, 20119:14 pm
Pence is an average fielder? Over the last 2 seasons he leads the NL in assist
I guess Phillie has had a great day baseball and football they got top FA in NFL and get 2nd best player at the deadline all in one day .
July 29th, 20119:15 pm
the problem is not that we won’t give Houston the pitcher (Minot) that they want….it is that they want two….Minor and Delgado….
Supposedly Wren agreed to Delgado but not Minor….
July 29th, 20119:17 pm
“Trouble afoot for Florida.” -Chip Caray, following a Gonzalez error that resulted in Florida getting runners on first and second with no outs.
Did he simply misspeak?
This is in fact the third time I’ve heard him say something like that in such a circumstance. (The last was against San Diego, I think.) I don’t mean to make too much of this, but it seems to me that someone who essentially speaks for a living should understand what the word “for” means.
Hardly is he alone, of course. The phrase “precocious beyond his years” (from one of the Fox announcers in last season’s Falcons-Seahawks game) takes the cake in my view, but they at least did not appear to share Caray’s penchant for nonsensical taglines, “The former redbird circles the nest!” and so forth.
July 29th, 20119:19 pm
@ the truth
Ahhh. Yes, that would be a deal breaker. One leaving is ok but in 2 years most of those will be up and losing 2 would be rather dumb. Just frustrating to see others get the players and the Braves settling for the scraps.
July 29th, 20119:24 pm
Can we cut Mclouth already! Should have sent him with the Pirates when they left town.
July 29th, 20119:25 pm
Given all these oblique injuries (and I don’t believe it re McClouth), it may be time for someone to look
at the conditioning issues regarding the players.
And what does Jeff Porter do, exactly? This team must be in pretty lousy physical shape for the players to get these injuries resulting from routine throws.
July 29th, 20119:28 pm
Bring in Willingham or Ludwick there not bad players just i don’t see us catching the Phillies .
July 29th, 20119:33 pm
I get tired of the Liberty Media bashing. The simple truth is that if the Braves had 45,000 fans at every single home game like the Phillies do, the Braves would have a lot more money to spend, like the Phillies do. It’s BS to watch weeknight games with 30,000 empty seats and blame the ownership group for tight purse strings.
July 29th, 20119:35 pm
TS, shut up. When you lose in the playoffs 14 out of 15 years it is kinda hard to blame the fans
It is official, the Phillies get Hunter Pence…unreal…frank wren is looking more and more like a bush leaguer..the guy has never won crap…he was run out of baltimore.
July 29th, 20119:36 pm
Willingham and Ludwick = Ankiel 2010 — marginal players who are not difference makers.
July 29th, 20119:37 pm
Liberty media has plenty of money…they just don’t care to invest much in their baseball team..sell the team to Arthur Blank…
don sutton is correct. Just like Ankiel we will get a second tier guy that will make little to no difference in the team
July 29th, 20119:38 pm
Some of these comments aim at the fact the Braves are NOT in first. Isn’t the goal to make the playoffs? just make it, right? Braves are on the path, shame so many think “all is lost” because we dont spend spend spend, it is good to save too people, look at the economy as it stands!
July 29th, 20119:39 pm
The Giants have shown that they have what it takes to handle the phillies..not sure what it is, but they turn it up a notch when they play them…
July 29th, 20119:40 pm
Not too upset we didn’t pay the enormous price for Pence but obviously wish he’d gone somewhere other than Philly. Really wish they’d had to give up Brown, I think he’s gonna be a player.
Maybe there still a chance we get Carlos Quentin .
July 29th, 20119:41 pm
Westofathens is a moron folks. The goal is to win a WS, NBA title or Super Bowl. Not to make the freaking playoffs.
Don Sutton gets paid for his comments, what do you receive?
July 29th, 20119:42 pm
I paid D1 baseball. What did you do?
July 29th, 20119:43 pm
“win” the playoffs, isn”t that the ultimate goal, the ws…..who is the moron
What else is there to do in Philly but to eat a Philly Cheese Steak while standing on a street corner watching one Philadelphian abuse another…..or abuse some unknowing visitor who did not know better than to visit the City of Brotherly Hate. When you have one 14 Western Division Titles in a row….then talk smack about the Braves. Until then…..show some respect for a first class organization.
July 29th, 20119:44 pm
. Isn’t the goal to make the playoffs? just make it, right?
That is what you put moron
I’d like to tip my cap to The King of Mediocrity; Frank Wren. Helluva job leading to trade deadline, Frank. Thanks for the help.
i paid 23 bills in one day, and i didn”t have to “borrow” to do so, lol
July 29th, 20119:45 pm
THIS “Don Sutton” doesn’t get paid for his comments…maybe I should.
July 29th, 20119:46 pm
Why do you care what LIberty Media spends or saves?
I don’t give up any of the top 4 pitching prospects for Hunter Pence…….you win with pitching and defense……and go get another hitter that is not as costly…..REMEMBER GETTING TEX from the RANGERS for two pitching prospects, a catching prospect, and a young shortstop. Wish you could have that one back now?
July 29th, 20119:47 pm
I would just like to say that I wish they would trade Heyward, what a joke
I have been to Philadelphia i do have admit there very passionate about there sports teams .
July 29th, 20119:48 pm
Tampa, remember getting Fred McGriff for prospects. Name one that was an All-star
Braves have depth, they are not first granted, but they are still alive, don’t panic people. Make the postseaon, and things can happen. There are a plethora of teams that wouldn’t even have the chance.
lighten up, and root for your team, no need for hate and bs
July 29th, 20119:49 pm
I am going to assume that west is an Obama fan. Has to be
July 29th, 20119:51 pm
4-0, all is lost in Atlanta
Heyward could not hit a bear in the ass with a bucket of rice
July 29th, 20119:52 pm
Haha pete, i adore your racist comment. Now i know you have no hope, i actually thought you had a legit argument, tsk tsk
July 29th, 20119:53 pm
What was a racist comment?
July 29th, 20119:54 pm
I never said anything about race. What are you talking about?
@WestOfAthens – you must be on the wrong blog – no hate and BS:-)
Look at that, Martin is awesome….depth will save the bravos
You have to be a liberal puss if you think I was ever talking about someone’s race
July 29th, 20119:55 pm
Am I not allowed to dislike a black player even if he sucks? Is that racist now?
July 29th, 20119:56 pm
suffer with me, or wither away without….
We may have something in this Constaza guy. A career .300 hitter in the minors for 7 years. Maybe i’ts time to give him a shot. He can sure fly around those bases
July 29th, 20119:57 pm
does our president currently play baseball?
Depth kerryb, thank you for posting that
July 29th, 20119:58 pm
that is what I thought west. You have zero answer to what was racist. Grow up, everyone is not racist
The Braves are stacked in the minors.
July 29th, 20119:59 pm
What does that have to do with race? I think you are liberal, it had nothing to do with him being black moron. DO you always assume someone is being racist? I guess I need to wake up my minority wife and tell her a liberal thinks I am racist
What is a liberal puss? Must be someone who is stupid enough to drink sour Tea?
July 29th, 201110:00 pm
That should be…..”not stupid enough to drink sour Tea”
July 29th, 201110:01 pm
They also have an OF at Gwinnett named Stefan Gartrell that’s hit 21 HR this year there.
July 29th, 201110:02 pm
I’d like to tip my cap to Nate’s strained abs. Gave us a chance to see Constanza contribute. Very cool for him.
Very true kerryb, Braves have looked back at what got them to back to back to back…etc div champs,. Still involved, GOING to make the playoffs, and come next year or mayyybe 2013, Braves will be unstoppable, call me insane?
Why are you morons talking about race in a Braves blog? Lets talk about the team and get off of this stupid crap.
Just thinking the same thing……brings energy and lots of speed….and he makes consistent contact. From first impression….might not be the best defensive CF though.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
