What the hell is up with Wren? Why does’nt he get off his fat a@@ and sign a right handed hitter to help out the team?Do the fans mean so little to him that he’s willing to let a great chance for the Braves go down the tubes?

All year long a lot of people have been calling people like me (haters) and always say “but we have the second best record , then third best then 4th best record in baseball” , don’t look now but we have the 6th best record in baseball and tomorrow it will be the 7th best and so on. I complain all the time because I love the braves but I hate the way they are being mis-managed. To Liberty Media this game is nothing more than a business and they are only looking at the bottom line, that it PERIOD.

@Ken_Rosenthal: Sources: #Reds on #Astros’ Bourn as well as Pence. Bourn FA after ‘12, Pence after ‘13. Pence is #Phillies’ to lose.

once either philly or atlanta makes a deal the other team will make their deal. the first to complete the deal will pay dearly. after that deal is done the other will get their deal done cheaper. it is what is called positioning. all teams involved know that both atlanta and philly are both vying for the same options, and are using it to their own advantage. if the phils deal first, the braves will make a great deal or 2, and vise versa

McCann,Freeman,Prado, and Ross, are our only consistently good hitters. Look at the stats. We have lots of .220 to .230 hitters which stinks. If you can’t bat .250 bring some players up from AAA or AA and give them a chance.

Latest on Pence and the Braves:

Joel Sherman of the New York Post hears that the Astros prefer the Braves’ prospects to the Phillies’ prospects (Twitter link). Atlanta won’t give up the “key guy,” who is believed to be Mike Minor, Sherman writes.

ESPN.com’s Buster Olney reports that the Braves, generally speaking, have zero enthusiasm about giving up Minor, Julio Teheran, Arodys Vizcaino or Randall Delgado (Twitter link).

My take is that in order to get someone who is going to make a difference, Wren is going to have to give up someone. I don’t understand what the big deal is with wanting to hang onto Minor.

if you just looked at the AVGs in our battting order, you’d swear this team was 16 games under 500, not over. Amazing what they’ve done with so little.

When Minor makes it back to the bigs with his Derek Lowe ERA in tow.We can think about Pence every time he is getting rocked and this castrated bunch of bats are scoring two runs a game.

According to Jayson Stark of ESPN, the Braves offer of Pence just got turned down. I wonder what we offered the Astros for Pence?

Hey, DOB, I’m searching all the time all over the place for what we the Astros are looking for prospect wise and it gets kind of blurry. From what I see though, Mike Minor is the center piece they want. Please fill me in. Btw I would do Pense for Minor and others in a heartbeat, but I could be wrong. What are your thoughts??

Falcon just sign Ray Edwards DE for 5 years…at least one major sports team in Atlanta wants to win big..

Alright, I can see why the Braves didn’t give up top prospects to the Mets for 3 months of Beltran. The Braves would have had to play against those top prospects for years to come while Beltran would have been out of the division, and possibly out of the NL in 3 months. Ok, I get that.

Now why are the Braves so reluctant to give up say Mike Minor and another position player prospect for Hunter Pence? Pence is under control for more than this season, and is a guy that can seriously help this team now, and quite possibly in the future. The Braves are built for winning RIGHT NOW, so why not get in a player or two that will help that along?

I don’t really understand why the Braves won’t give up 1 of their top pitching prospects when they are stacked with them, to a non division opponent nonetheless, in order to win right now? When Frank Wren and company are at home come October watching the Phillies and the rest of the NL teams vying for a WS Title, maybe then he will look back and think that he should have pulled the trigger.

JB,

I am a lifelong Minnesota Viking fan and I can honestly say that the Falcons didn’t get a great player with Ray Edwards. They overpaid because of need. Edwards didn’t do much with Jared Allen getting double teamed almost every play. He is a selfish and very overrated player. This coming from a fan of the team that he just came from, and watching every single game of theirs for years.

Thanks for the bloggage Mr. O’Brien.

Don’t know how anyone else sees it but I’ve been really torn on Philly’s attempts to upgrade. On the one hand I’d hate to see them add a big piece but on the other, I think Domonic Brown will be a beast and would just as soon see him leave the division and/or league.

I’d love to see Quentin on the Braves but I don’t see how Heyward is going to cope with his issues unless he’s playing. He’s obviously been bad this year for whatever reason but unless it is health related I’d much rather see him out there than Schafer and way more than Nate. I know they’ve said in the past he could play center in a pinch but I’m guessing they aren’t thinking about that for the stretch run. Anyone hearing anything about help for the Pen? Last I saw reports said Braves were cooling on that. Hopefully that means they’re considering bringing in one of the young guys. Varvaro looked good last night and I really hate to speak badly of Mr. Proctor after the job he did the other night but man, do we need an upgrade.

Thats the thing though, do they just want Minor? If they want two of the big four pitching prospects then it gets a little more sketchy for me. I’m glad I’m not Frank Wren because its about to be feast or famine.

I think what we saw in the Pirates series is about what we can expect from the Braves for the next few weeks. They will struggle to play .500 ball without McCann, Schaefer, and healthier Chipper. We are actually getting about what I expected out of McClouth and Gonzo (I know my expectations were small). My biggest concerns right now are Heyward and Prado. Have Heward’s injuries made him a pull hitter? I would like to see a spray chart from last year to this year for J-Hey. Am I crazy or do I remember him wearing out Left Center last year during the first couple of months. At least one of his walk-offs was between 3rd and SS. In a game this past weekend, he hit a fastball that was 4 or 5 inches outside and rolled it foul by first. Last year he would have went with the pitch. Prado is just the opposite in that it does seem he is trying to guide every ball into right field. In one of his last AB’s last night, he swung at 3 pitches that I think were all off the plate. The last one was probably 8 inches outside and about 6 inches off the ground and he soft-rolled it to 2nd. He has really expanded the strike zone since his IR. Maybe he is just trying too hard to make something happen.

I say all of this to say this: Our need for a bat is more desperate than FW is letting on. We will struggle to hang on to the WC without another good bat. Please come through for us FW!!!

@BravesfaninWis – they’re not willing to give up a bunch for Pence, IMO because it’s not just what we give up but he’s making a lot of money now and will be making a ton next year and a lot of folks smarter than me don’t think he’s worth what he’ll be making which would make it hard to trade him if we needed to. I like the guy and would really want to upgrade left (assuming Prado goes to third) if we can’t upgrade center but it has to make long term sense. I’d really prefer to upgrade center but I’m afraid that horse is at least near death.

Mr. Blank and the Falcons Mgmt have what it takes to get the job done. Too bad that Mr. Blank is not running the Braves instead of the inept idiot Frank Wren.

I agree with Donovan. Fire Fredi and bring in Bobby Valentine who has more knowledge on how to
manage in his little finger than Fredi has in his head. Why Lowe was allowed to pitch after the rain delay is a mystery. He was in trouble throughout the first 4 innings. Leaving Sherril in to pitch to McCutcheon was topping on the stupidity cake.
