Is this for the gold ?!
BamaDude @ #1CowCollege AL
USA down 1 PK …ugh !!!!!!!!!!
July 17th, 20115:18 pm
I’d rather watch softball too T’h, ….or grass growing…. or paint drying….
guess that’s it for USA …
It’s for the Championship…
July 17th, 20115:19 pm
Womens soccer team is choking in normal US soccer fashion
Let’s go hope solo.
Screw Soccer I’m Watching old WWF In Your House, Ken Shamrock VS HBK Shawn Michaels
I can’t believe they’re deciding the World Cup on penalty kicks.
Girls cant even get in one single goal
Coach (2011 Fredi G.a Go!)
The chances of Derek Lowe getting traded in the next 24 hours??????
July 17th, 20115:20 pm
July 17th, 20115:21 pm
Abby ..of course !
do or die
Penalty kicks are the perfect way to decide the World Cup when you win – not so much when you lose…
July 17th, 20115:22 pm
Gotta’ get some work done. Night, all.
Speculation on who might replace Lowe in the rotation should he be traded – no one mentions him, but don’t look now. Cristhian Martinez has started two games at Gwinnett, gone five in one and six in the second, has a 2.45 ERA, struck out twelve and walked just one.
nice run for Japan !! nice for them …sorta
I’ve been wondering about that nolie. Their top 10 prospects lists are very similar to ours – lots of pitchers and a couple of IFs thrown in. They have this one OF – Daniel Fields – who might be in their top 5 and hence not an even exchange for the big salary going that way. If we eat some of his salary, then it’s possible we get one of those borderline top 10 guys. How does that sound?
So much for that! Congradjulations to Japan……………
July 17th, 20115:23 pm
This is why soccer will never become popular here. Because our teams aren’t good, and when they are, they choke when it matters most.
Soccer, a real sport, sucks, but WWE, as fake as it gets, doesn’t for you. Wow.

Mike, soccer is very popular in the states.
Anybody want to take a guess, who the big bat will be. After Lowe is traded?
Choke job by USA women, what a upset in the soccer world.
July 17th, 20115:25 pm
How else do you propose they do it after 120 minutes?
Japan was just better! They should’ve won. USA did well, but Japan better!
July 17th, 20115:26 pm
The number one sport on the planet?
And here in America….all but ignored.
McFann ;Ô; ;Ô;
July 17th, 20115:27 pm
Only thing is if they get another bat, where is he gonna play? Can’t be left, ’cause that’s where Prado goes when Chipper comes back, and all the other spots are filled as well. Much as Gonzalez cann bug me with his bat sometimes, I’d hate to lose that glove…
Sb- I would prefer the OT be sudden death…
Linebrink for Cy
“And here in America….all but ignored”
yep, a few days ago i didn’t even know they were playing and tomorrow I doubt I’ll even remember who won
July 17th, 20115:28 pm
Why only 24hrs? I thought you were sure he wouldnt be traded at all!! Looks like you have begun your backtracking. Hmmm….
July 17th, 20115:30 pm
The most viable bat the Tigers have that we could use……Jhonny Peralta.
He’s their young short stop and I just don’t see it happening.
From Yahoo’s Second Half Stories to watch:
Craig Kimbrel, the Atlanta rookie whose manager is pushing the bounds of good sense. Fredi Gonzalez uses Kimbrel and Jonny Venters often because they’re so dominant. So was Billy Koch in 2002, when Oakland ran him out 84 times. He pitched two more seasons and was out of baseball at 30. Koch is the only closer in the last 25 years to pitch in more games than the 83 Kimbrel is on pace to throw. At 23, Kimbrel should have a long career ahead. Hopefully he’s built with one of those freakish arms that can hold up under the punishment most are no longer seasoned to withstand
Hey good job guys. Good job.
Too bad most Americans minds are already made up when it comes to soccer. That was an excellent game with a dramatic finish. Lots of people missed out. Im not a huge soccer fan by any stretch of the imagination, but the World Cup (men or women) is great to watch.
July 17th, 20115:31 pm
I could never do this. Call me a sore loser, but the last thing I would want to do after losing a HUGE game like the world cup is to stay on the field while the other team gets honored. I would be sad and pissed and would want to get somewhere by myself as soon as possible to calm down. I couldnt do it.
That’s quite merciless – not you but the format. The did employ the golden goal for a few years and it seemed like a terrible let down. I prefer the penalties instead – atleast gives both teams a decent chance.
July 17th, 20115:32 pm
Exactly what I was thinking McFann. There is no where to play another bat. What, center? You give up prospects to get a guy that might only be here for the rest of this year? No way, don’t need another Tex deal. Just trade Lowe to free up salary and use that money in the offseason to upgrade at ss.
Seems as if you can’t interpret english, much less baseball.
July 17th, 20115:33 pm
Im not a huge soccer fan by any stretch of the imagination, but the World Cup (men or women) is great to watch.
I think you will enjoy European leagues particularly the English premier league even more, then. The action in WCs tend to be a lot less than league and cup games.
July 17th, 20115:34 pm
You would call soccer popular?…in the USA????
USA Soccer has improved. Just needs to improve a little better. It was a good game, and quite intertaining…..
July 17th, 20115:35 pm
At least it wasn’t the Russians winning it! small joke…..
July 17th, 20115:36 pm
The world Cup is hugely popular but it’s more of a patriotic thing. I was at the bars and they were all packed last year going crazy. As far the sport, I doubt many in the USA can even explain what offsides is.
This is for you Joseph, just to let you know I have not forgotten you. In today(Sunday) KC game, Melky got 2 more hits, his BA still at .295 and our boy Frenchy had 2 hits, including 2-run HR, which raises his HR total to 13 and RBI total to 58! Oh, I almost forgot about the more pressure thing in ATL than KC. My guess his Heyward probably could not do any better in KC. Just my humble opinion!
July 17th, 20115:37 pm
The chances of Derek Lowe playing in a Tigers uniform between now and the trading deadline?
ZERO. The reasons why are rather obvious to me, but I really don’t have the time to explain it to those who would rather argue with sound reasoning.
As far the sport, I doubt many in the USA can even explain what offsides is.
That thing has been muddled so much in recent times, I wonder if a lot of the refs themselves understand it completely.
July 17th, 20115:38 pm
almost gotta be a center fielder if it happens at all. maybe a shortstop. hard to imagine anything else
July 17th, 20115:39 pm
And how is this for irony ? The Braves have a 4 game set with the Rockies, And the Phillies have a 4 game set with the cubs. That ain’t right !
You are right, Mr. Boogie. In my world travels I have found a pub or two (surprise) and watched games with the locals and Ex-Pats. They can be lots of fun if you give em a chance. Gotta have a decent attention span though. I can see why some people get bored waiting on a goal. Kinda like the baseball fans who only want to see homeruns and dont get into the aspect of the whole game.
Coach, how can you honestly sit there and say ZERO chance when the Tigers themselves said they are interested in Lowe
Coach if someone is dumb enough to take Lowe’s contract than all power to the Braves if they can deal him. I imagine it’s more artifical interest that’s being created. Lowe did step it up last year and got us in the playoffs. He is a big game pitcher, he showed that last year.
July 17th, 20115:40 pm
Nolee: Think Lowe is gone?
noleeee: I say Bourn from Astros, and Jeff Keppinger……
Hugo Z Hackenbush
July 17th, 20115:41 pm
The Tigers have a ss/2b/3b at AAA named Argenis Diaz. Might be a fluke, but his OBP this year has taken an astounding leap to .378. Rather see him than Lugo on the bench.
July 17th, 20115:42 pm
The reasons why are rather obvious to me, but I really don’t have the time to explain it to those who would rather argue with sound reasoning.
Dave, is there any talk among the higher ups in the organization about Heyward’s disappearing act? Surely the keen baseball minds of the Braves management have a better insight into exactly what is going on with the struggling phenom. Is there a hole in his swing? Is he soft? Does he work and practice hard? Does he put in extra time like Prado? Does he have a drinking problem (hey, who knows)? I’m just want the player who punished the baseball on a nightly basis a year ago back.
Hey Ward! Were are you blogging from?
July 17th, 20115:43 pm
Might be a fluke, but his OBP this year has taken an astounding leap to .378. Hugo
astounding leaps are always suspect. I’d rather not see that deal happen for Lowe
July 17th, 20115:44 pm
My home in Montana………
July 17th, 20115:45 pm
Dumbfound, what irony? The Braves swept the Rockies in a four game set not too long ago.
My first thought in no on Lowe going John, but that is nothing more than a hunch, who knows?
July 17th, 20115:46 pm
Have a place outside of Helena.
July 17th, 20115:48 pm
I just don’t know,I hope I’m wrong ,but I think he’s done.He lives in Fort Myers, and him and his wife are thougt highly of.
Lowe is done! He’s gone…….

I only say that in meaning Coors field has been a nightmare for the Braves the last 10 years ! But look at who the Phillies play !

Coach, how can you honestly sit there and say ZERO chance when the Tigers themselves said they are interested in Lowe.
Don’t believe anything you read and only half of what you see. I don’t.
July 17th, 20115:53 pm
Its offical Ward has spoken.Oh Ward ,some lady named Kat was posting the same as you about Agon. She posted a lot yesterday, and seemed pretty sharp.
ever spend any time in the Missouri Breaks or the Absaroka or Beartooth Mts, ward?
July 17th, 20115:54 pm
Coach: You still believe the Braves are good when they lose…..
July 17th, 20115:55 pm
Actually, I think Detroit would have to be a little crazy to trade for Lowe at all.
July 17th, 20115:56 pm
noleeee: Spent time in Bolivar Missouri for a bout a1and 1/2. way back in 1997.
July 17th, 20115:57 pm
Do you really feel that deciding the World Cup, which really is inclusive of the entire world, by having four players from each side take point blank kicks on goal?
That’s like deciding the Basketball Olympics by shooting free throws or the World Series by a Home Run Derby.
Our Braves as presently constructed are on pace to win between 93-96 games, which all but guarantees a wild card berth. They also have a 5.5 game lead in the wild card chase.
So why try fixing what isn’t broken…..it makes ZERO SENSE. but then again this is a blog where common sense is all but rejected by most.
July 17th, 20115:58 pm
Well I’m going to take a nap, so I can catch Ward on the flip side.
July 17th, 20115:59 pm
Montana is beautiful country.
July 17th, 20116:01 pm
see ya Derek!
July 17th, 20116:02 pm
I don’t care what pace they are on, I’d replace Schafer/McLouth with a proven bat in a NY minute if we could find a long term solution.Heck I’m even starting to get interested in Cain for cripes sake
If Wren makes a trade? I wont be on the flip side…….
July 17th, 20116:03 pm
Dang, that was a tough pitch that Mac hit out!
July 17th, 20116:04 pm
Yeah, don’t try to improve. Makes no sense at all. If they don’t, great. If they can improve this year and get rid of Lowe’s contract? Even better.
Just heard on XM radio that talks between Braves-Tigers are heating up regarding Derek Lowe. Saying a deal could be struck as soon as early-mid week. Sounds more of a way to relieve his big contract than anything, obviously.
Also sounds to me Braves have an eye on a higher priced hitter to acquire.
July 17th, 20116:06 pm
Surprised J-Hey didn’t stay in the game after pinch hitting. Fredi normally does that.
BraveLifer, did you really hear that?
July 17th, 20116:08 pm
So Wilkin got a coupla games in a row and did ok. That’s good to see
July 17th, 20116:09 pm
WE could likely do ok without Lowe
Steve from OH
July 17th, 20116:10 pm
Doesn’t make sense to me, either. I like the NHL’s format–sudden death OT for as long as it takes.
July 17th, 20116:11 pm
JasonInFL, yeah, but come on now. It’s trade time, so any and everybody might just tweek reality a bit here and there to pump up interest. Big name guys like Olney and Rosenthal(most times) are guys you might stop and take it to heart. IF it’s true than I think like probably most here that a higher priced hitter comes our way.
July 17th, 20116:13 pm
Forget that penalty kick crap. I like rock, paper, scissors.
I think everyone of you so called “fans” ragging on nate through the first 8 innings of this game need to apologise.
July 17th, 20116:16 pm
You do have to wonder if a team has interest in our highest paid. Least effective pitcher that our GM will jump all over it, right? Makes perfect sense. That is IF the Tigers are as interested as some are leading on. Honestly, who’d want him and his contract? Gotta be pretty desperate imo.
We talk baseball, other sports, music, movies, BBQ and whatever (except politics or religion)
