Speculation on who might replace Lowe in the rotation should he be traded – no one mentions him, but don’t look now. Cristhian Martinez has started two games at Gwinnett, gone five in one and six in the second, has a 2.45 ERA, struck out twelve and walked just one.

I’ve been wondering about that nolie. Their top 10 prospects lists are very similar to ours – lots of pitchers and a couple of IFs thrown in. They have this one OF – Daniel Fields – who might be in their top 5 and hence not an even exchange for the big salary going that way. If we eat some of his salary, then it’s possible we get one of those borderline top 10 guys. How does that sound?

Only thing is if they get another bat, where is he gonna play? Can’t be left, ’cause that’s where Prado goes when Chipper comes back, and all the other spots are filled as well. Much as Gonzalez cann bug me with his bat sometimes, I’d hate to lose that glove…

The most viable bat the Tigers have that we could use……Jhonny Peralta.

Craig Kimbrel, the Atlanta rookie whose manager is pushing the bounds of good sense. Fredi Gonzalez uses Kimbrel and Jonny Venters often because they’re so dominant. So was Billy Koch in 2002, when Oakland ran him out 84 times. He pitched two more seasons and was out of baseball at 30. Koch is the only closer in the last 25 years to pitch in more games than the 83 Kimbrel is on pace to throw. At 23, Kimbrel should have a long career ahead. Hopefully he’s built with one of those freakish arms that can hold up under the punishment most are no longer seasoned to withstand

Too bad most Americans minds are already made up when it comes to soccer. That was an excellent game with a dramatic finish. Lots of people missed out. Im not a huge soccer fan by any stretch of the imagination, but the World Cup (men or women) is great to watch.

I could never do this. Call me a sore loser, but the last thing I would want to do after losing a HUGE game like the world cup is to stay on the field while the other team gets honored. I would be sad and pissed and would want to get somewhere by myself as soon as possible to calm down. I couldnt do it.

That’s quite merciless – not you but the format. The did employ the golden goal for a few years and it seemed like a terrible let down. I prefer the penalties instead – atleast gives both teams a decent chance.

Exactly what I was thinking McFann. There is no where to play another bat. What, center? You give up prospects to get a guy that might only be here for the rest of this year? No way, don’t need another Tex deal. Just trade Lowe to free up salary and use that money in the offseason to upgrade at ss.

Im not a huge soccer fan by any stretch of the imagination, but the World Cup (men or women) is great to watch.
I think you will enjoy European leagues particularly the English premier league even more,then. The action in WCs tend to be a lot less than league and cup games.

The world Cup is hugely popular but it’s more of a patriotic thing. I was at the bars and they were all packed last year going crazy. As far the sport, I doubt many in the USA can even explain what offsides is.

This is for you Joseph,just to let you know I have not forgotten you. In today(Sunday) KC game, Melky got 2 more hits, his BA still at .295 and our boy Frenchy had 2 hits, including 2-run HR, which raises his HR total to 13 and RBI total to 58! Oh, I almost forgot about the more pressure thing in ATL than KC. My guess his Heyward probably could not do any better in KC. Just my humble opinion!

That thing has been muddled so much in recent times, I wonder if a lot of the refs themselves understand it completely.

You are right, Mr. Boogie. In my world travels I have found a pub or two (surprise) and watched games with the locals and Ex-Pats. They can be lots of fun if you give em a chance. Gotta have a decent attention span though. I can see why some people get bored waiting on a goal. Kinda like the baseball fans who only want to see homeruns and dont get into the aspect of the whole game.

Coach if someone is dumb enough to take Lowe’s contract than all power to the Braves if they can deal him. I imagine it’s more artifical interest that’s being created. Lowe did step it up last year and got us in the playoffs. He is a big game pitcher, he showed that last year.

The Tigers have a ss/2b/3b at AAA named Argenis Diaz. Might be a fluke, but his OBP this year has taken an astounding leap to .378. Rather see him than Lugo on the bench.

Dave, is there any talk among the higher ups in the organization about Heyward’s disappearing act? Surely the keen baseball minds of the Braves management have a better insight into exactly what is going on with the struggling phenom. Is there a hole in his swing? Is he soft? Does he work and practice hard? Does he put in extra time like Prado? Does he have a drinking problem (hey, who knows)? I’m just want the player who punished the baseball on a nightly basis a year ago back.

That’s like deciding the Basketball Olympics by shooting free throws or the World Series by a Home Run Derby.

Our Braves as presently constructed are on pace to win between 93-96 games, which all but guarantees a wild card berth. They also have a 5.5 game lead in the wild card chase.
So why try fixing what isn’t broken…..it makes ZERO SENSE. but then again this is a blog where common sense is all but rejected by most.

Just heard on XM radio that talks between Braves-Tigers are heating up regarding Derek Lowe. Saying a deal could be struck as soon as early-mid week. Sounds more of a way to relieve his big contract than anything, obviously.
Also sounds to me Braves have an eye on a higher priced hitter to acquire.

Big name guys like Olney and Rosenthal(most times) are guys you might stop and take it to heart. IF it’s true than I think like probably most here that a higher priced hitter comes our way.

You do have to wonder if a team has interest in our highest paid. Least effective pitcher that our GM will jump all over it, right? Makes perfect sense. That is IF the Tigers are as interested as some are leading on. Honestly, who’d want him and his contract? Gotta be pretty desperate imo.
