what the heck was Fredi thinking letting alex gonzo swing instead of bunting with runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs?! if we had lost that game, it would have totally been fredi’s fault. very dumb move. alex is NOT the kind of hitter who should get a pass to hit instead of bunting, especially when the braves are having such problems scoring runs.

You’re right.

The Braves are so so solid at CF right now with the deadly McClouth/Schaffer combo and Lowe is just such a dominating pitcher.

Why would the Braves ever consider it ???

ken

because the orgnization wants to see if schaffer can handle the leadoff position and this is too small of a sample size!! Second Granderson doesnt interest them as last year proved when they told his AGENT not interested….finally the only thing you are correct on is their willingness to get rid of Lowe!!

“Whoever thinks the Braves should trade Jair Jurgens should be banned from commenting due to being extremely stupid.

You don’t trade your best pitcher in the middle of a pennant race…..get a clue folks.”

With our pitching depth, why trade a pitcher we can’t keep and get a lot in return for him when we can just let him walk with zero in return immediately after we’re bounced in the first round of the playoffs, again, because we can’t hit the ball consistently. That makes a lot of sense to me. Thanks for clueing me in.

A good candidate for Braves starting SS in 2013 might be Andrelton Simmons — rated top defensive SS in the draft last year and is hiting 300 in hight A. It will probably be Gonzalez or Pastornicky until then. Pastornicky has over 20 errors to go withhis 300 average.

I would’ve never realized this without your help. thanks.

It’s exactly what I would like to see happen too. Struggling to make my point, however, IF (and only if) we know we can’t afford to bring JJ back, then it’s time to unload him, now, so that we get something solid in return for him. I don’t care about making the playoffs only to bow out in round one yet again if we can’t hit the ball. Let’s think a little beyond this year, again, IF we can’t afford to keep JJ. I love the guy. I want him for the next 10 years at this level of performance. But financial reality may prevent it from happening.

shafer has played only 30 games or so. he deserves a real shot at centerfield. remember, freeman was nto hitting well at all for the first month or so of this season. and heyward still is batting well, so enough about booting shafer. the last thing the braves need to do is trade good pitching prospects for another outfielder. maybe when chipper retires and prado moves to third but not now.

You can wait all day for what I care, but to spare you from a bedsore, I’ll try again….

Read this slowly….with our offense, a pennant isn’t even a consideration. Ok? IF, and only IF, we can’t afford to keep JJ after this season, then do we just want to let him walk with nothing in return when we could trade him now for a piece or 2 that will theoretically help us in coming seasons? I’m trying to look down the road a little and face what may be reality here.

I don’t want to trade JJ. Understand? But I also don’t want zero in return for losing him when we don’t have an offense capable of getting us anywhere in the postseason. Understand?

“Uggla will come around” doesn’t do it for me.

As for naming you a team that traded its best pitcher, I can’t help you there. I don’t care, regardless.

I hope what I’m saying makes some kind of sense to you now. If not, then we simply disagree on what getting nothing ultimately for JJ means and that’s ok.

Atlanta Braves fans have to be the worst in the country. The Braves are gighting for the second best record in NL with three starting pitchers on the DL at some time, all three outfielders have been on the DL, and the 2010 offensive MVP is still out and has been for several weeks. This team has overachieved this year and is in great position for the the second half stretch. If they trade it needs to be a speedy center fielder that can hit at least .275 with OBO over .350.

@YADE- Heyward wishes he was batting close to .300 since coming back….”Since returning from 3-week DL stint, Heyward is 10-for-39 (.256) in 10 games” lower than that now…..maybe he is turning it around a little but he isn’t and never will be a .300 hitter….

I agree with “Reality Check”, the Braves are in good position for second half. Great pitching and only one player (Brian McCann) having good season so far. jim

Heyward is coming off an injury, In April before the injury he had 7 HRs and was hitting about 270. In the last week since returning from the DL he has been hitting the ball with authority that he did not have in the time he was injured before going on the DL. It was fashionable to make light of Heyward’s injury, but the evidence suggests it did play a big part in his performance. If we are to judge Heyward, we should see how he does during the remainder of the season. Neither Schafer nor Heyward are the biggest concerns with our offense at the moment and a healthy Heyward could be bigger than an acquired bat during the seond half of the season.

You guys worried about Heyward really need to calm down.
This is his second season, that his been plagued by injury.

Four lefties in a row at the top of today’s lineup, but I like it. Chipper needs the rest and Conrad is the better offensive option at the moment. The only worry is that Lowe is a groundball pitcher and I hope there aren’t a lot of chances at 3B.

“Great game my 4th point of contact. For god sake we’re playing the Marniers. McLouth can’t bunt worth a S#$% and we still try to bunt him on. I’m sick of him bunting into a popup out. Every other hitter besides Mac was swinging for the fence and getting nice long flyballs.. Small ball people. Chipper looked lost. Hanson had no business being out there. He should have had one or two warmup games in AAA before coming back. It’s a miracle we are where we are at right now. Tells you how bad the rest of the NL sucks.”

What a load of crap….mostly!
