Another group of stupid comments I must address.
The Yankees are NOT trading Curtis Granderson, especially for Derek freaking Lowe……….Get real people !
June 29th, 201112:26 pm
yeah and the Braves wouldnt make that trade anyway either YADE
June 29th, 201112:27 pm
like the phils~
The Bravos record is due to
Drum Roll please?????????
It’s so obvious~ not even gonna type it~
certainly NOT due to the manager!!!!
Gimme a break!
Davey was born 1-30-1943=86. Not that it matters.
June 29th, 201112:29 pm
what the heck was Fredi thinking letting alex gonzo swing instead of bunting with runners on 1st and 2nd with no outs?! if we had lost that game, it would have totally been fredi’s fault. very dumb move. alex is NOT the kind of hitter who should get a pass to hit instead of bunting, especially when the braves are having such problems scoring runs.
June 29th, 201112:31 pm
and Bud Black is 36-45 because of drum roll please…..idiots!!!!
crazy man, typed backward=68 not 86
June 29th, 201112:32 pm
Wren would trade Lowe for Granderson quicker than you and I can type…….
June 29th, 201112:33 pm
okay Ill bunt and move runners to 2nd and 3rd for back to back lefthanded hitters are hitting a total of .167 against lefties….yeah that makes sense!!
that is just not true yade…..but believe what you want to believe
June 29th, 201112:35 pm
we are not trading for another CF boys unless he hits RH and RH ONLY, thats it period fellows!!!
June 29th, 201112:37 pm
The Braves are so so solid at CF right now with the deadly McClouth/Schaffer combo and Lowe is just such a dominating pitcher.
Why would the Braves ever consider it ???
June 29th, 201112:39 pm
because the orgnization wants to see if schaffer can handle the leadoff position and this is too small of a sample size!! Second Granderson doesnt interest them as last year proved when they told his AGENT not interested….finally the only thing you are correct on is their willingness to get rid of Lowe!!
June 29th, 201112:42 pm
June 29th, 2011
“Whoever thinks the Braves should trade Jair Jurgens should be banned from commenting due to being extremely stupid.
You don’t trade your best pitcher in the middle of a pennant race…..get a clue folks.”
With our pitching depth, why trade a pitcher we can’t keep and get a lot in return for him when we can just let him walk with zero in return immediately after we’re bounced in the first round of the playoffs, again, because we can’t hit the ball consistently. That makes a lot of sense to me. Thanks for clueing me in.
June 29th, 201112:43 pm
FW would trade Lowe fo Granerson in a heartbeat! Cashman would not!!!
Cashman might trade Granderson for JJ, but FW would not (during season)!!
We are not trading Jurrjens period and will try to sign him to a long deal that is the plan!!
LMAO FW is not interested in Granderson at all!!
June 29th, 201112:44 pm
how can I say this so you idiots understand:
WE DO NOT WANT GRANDERSON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
June 29th, 201112:46 pm
The only 3 OF’s we have even scouted to see about a trade possibility are Ryan Ludwig, Matt Kemp, and Reed Johnson at this point!!
A good candidate for Braves starting SS in 2013 might be Andrelton Simmons — rated top defensive SS in the draft last year and is hiting 300 in hight A. It will probably be Gonzalez or Pastornicky until then. Pastornicky has over 20 errors to go withhis 300 average.
June 29th, 201112:47 pm
June 29th, 2011
“We are not trading Jurrjens period and will try to sign him to a long deal that is the plan!!”
I would’ve never realized this without your help. thanks.
It’s exactly what I would like to see happen too. Struggling to make my point, however, IF (and only if) we know we can’t afford to bring JJ back, then it’s time to unload him, now, so that we get something solid in return for him. I don’t care about making the playoffs only to bow out in round one yet again if we can’t hit the ball. Let’s think a little beyond this year, again, IF we can’t afford to keep JJ. I love the guy. I want him for the next 10 years at this level of performance. But financial reality may prevent it from happening.
June 29th, 201112:49 pm
JJ will not be a FA until after 2014 season
He will be Arb Eligible but we can still have him for 2 more years before we trade him. I doubt the Braves will give him CC like money
June 29th, 201112:50 pm
Will you please tell me one team in the history of baseball that has traded thier best pitcher in the middle of the year and went on to win a pennant……………I’m waiting.
I hate to burst your bubble, but when Prado comes back your Jordan Schaffer experiment will be over.
shafer has played only 30 games or so. he deserves a real shot at centerfield. remember, freeman was nto hitting well at all for the first month or so of this season. and heyward still is batting well, so enough about booting shafer. the last thing the braves need to do is trade good pitching prospects for another outfielder. maybe when chipper retires and prado moves to third but not now.
June 29th, 201112:51 pm
agree with you but lets get on here and discuss reality and not dreamland please
the most likely deal will be a small one for Reed Johnson who is hitting.334 this season to platoon with Schaffer/or Mcclouth.
*heyward still ISN’T batting well (typo)
June 29th, 201112:52 pm
mcclouth/prospect for Reed Johnson/propect is where we are probably heading folks
June 29th, 201112:53 pm
Heyward is hitting near .300 since his return from the DL, but believe what you want to believe Rob
June 29th, 201112:55 pm
I would love to hear an opposing GM’s laughter when the Braves offer Nate McClouth in a trade. If he doesnt hang up on your first.
June 29th, 201112:59 pm
the Cubs rank near the bottom of the league in defense and at the top in hitting Yade….why am I even trying to discuss real baseball with you…never mind…the Cubs would like to sure up their defense in the outfield and Johnson is a FA at the end of the year where Mcclouth is not…I could break down how these things work, but its obvious you are a fan and think like a fan!!
June 29th, 20111:00 pm
June 29th, 2011
“Will you please tell me one team in the history of baseball that has traded thier best pitcher in the middle of the year and went on to win a pennant……………I’m waiting.”
You can wait all day for what I care, but to spare you from a bedsore, I’ll try again….
Read this slowly….with our offense, a pennant isn’t even a consideration. Ok? IF, and only IF, we can’t afford to keep JJ after this season, then do we just want to let him walk with nothing in return when we could trade him now for a piece or 2 that will theoretically help us in coming seasons? I’m trying to look down the road a little and face what may be reality here.
I don’t want to trade JJ. Understand? But I also don’t want zero in return for losing him when we don’t have an offense capable of getting us anywhere in the postseason. Understand?
“Uggla will come around” doesn’t do it for me.
As for naming you a team that traded its best pitcher, I can’t help you there. I don’t care, regardless.
I hope what I’m saying makes some kind of sense to you now. If not, then we simply disagree on what getting nothing ultimately for JJ means and that’s ok.
also YADE when Prado comes back Schaffer will still be in the lineup!
I think Braves are doing a great job
The Yankees have a 200+ million payroll.
June 29th, 20111:01 pm
again PHIL we are not trading Jurrjens, if we make a big trade it will be Mike Minor that will go in the deal
hey truth nice to have a voice of reason on here!!
June 29th, 20111:03 pm
JJ IS NOT A FA AFTER THIS SEASON
HE WILL BE ARB ELIGIBLE AND THE BRAVES WILL END UP PAYING HIM 7-8 MILLION
June 29th, 20111:08 pm
Trade for Micheal Young NOW!!! And all of our problems would be solved,he can play every where…Hell i think he can even Pitch and Catch…And we all know that TEXAS loves trading with the Braves..He is being used as a backup at 3B,1B,LF,CF,RF,DH, and i think he even played SS for 2 games… So there you have it this (1) guy would take care of ALL Braves needs…Just get it done Frank W. NOW…..GO BRAVES
June 29th, 20111:09 pm
What makes you think the Braves cant sign JJ
Lowe, Chipper, McClouth, Kawakami contracts will be off the books. I thought you said you were thinking down the road ?
I’ve been hearing that Garret Anderson, is ready to make a comeback, maybe the Braves could pick him up, and try him in CF and the leadoff spot in the batting order.
June 29th, 20111:12 pm
The Texass fans threatened to revolt, the last time the team even mentioned trading Young, according to the talking heads on one of the telecast.
I said IF they couldn’t resign the guy….i don’t know if they can or not. If he wants 150 million, ain’t happening.
Truth says he isn’t a FA anyway. Good. Then what I’ve been saying is completely off the table, obviously. I don’t have the time normally to study every player’s status…i thought the guy was a FA. Glad he isn’t. Whew!
So it appears you think Schaffer will replace McClouth in CF this year. Which is 50/50 at best.
But you think Prado will not hit leadoff once he is back in the lineup ? That is just plain false.
June 29th, 20111:13 pm
dont forget Linebrink’s 5.5 million contract comes off as well so Mcacnn and Jurrjens will get big money!!
June 29th, 20111:14 pm
I admire you at least admitting you don’t know what you are talking about.
the plan is for Prado to hit 2nd if schaffer can handle it, but with the Johnson trade then when they face a lefty it will be Prado leading off Johnson hitting 7th.
McLouth vs. Schafer….
Do you really think it matters?
June 29th, 20111:15 pm
Sorry spelled his name wrong Michael Young…………….
June 29th, 20111:16 pm
the orginization doesnt want Heyward hitting 2nd YADE as you saw in the opening day lineup….keep up buddy and stop being a fan that thinks with his heart….I am not saying what I think I am just telling what the orginization wants!!
June 29th, 20111:18 pm
Yade – Let’s don’t get too carried away with the notion that I’m clueless. I’m not. On this particular subject, I was off base, obviously, because I thought JJ was a FA to be.
You don’t have to be quite so harsh and egotistical…and neither do I at times.
June 29th, 20111:19 pm
Phil dont worry about it YADE is not all there either….LOL
June 29th, 20111:21 pm
well ime to get a bite to eat and get ready for a sweep this afternoon, oh crap forgot Lowe is pitching well at least we had a 3-3 road trip!!! maybe we can out hit the great Derek Lowe!!
bring back blauser
June 29th, 20111:22 pm
only trade braves should be for jose reyes. this guy is a franchise maker. would give braves a proven leadoff hitter with blinding speed, will only make hitters behind him better, and will make the young players stars. most importantly he would be reason enough for a potential buyer to seek this team (you reading this Mark Cuban)
June 29th, 20111:23 pm
It just seems to me with Prado and Heyward at 1 and 2 that Chipper and McCann would have RISP a heck of a lot more often than with Schaffer batting leadoff.
June 29th, 20111:24 pm
I think they would trade him,Young is a 3B and playes all infield pos. And the have A. Beltre at 3B now..And we all know who they have at SS Damit,….and he makes 16 mil. so they will part with him..and we will need a 3B,SS, SOON…
June 29th, 20111:27 pm
Atlanta Braves fans have to be the worst in the country. The Braves are gighting for the second best record in NL with three starting pitchers on the DL at some time, all three outfielders have been on the DL, and the 2010 offensive MVP is still out and has been for several weeks. This team has overachieved this year and is in great position for the the second half stretch. If they trade it needs to be a speedy center fielder that can hit at least .275 with OBO over .350.
June 29th, 20111:29 pm
Reyes is having a career year….no thanks.
June 29th, 20111:31 pm
Why does Heyward get a pass for his sub .230 batting average, when Jeff Fran (now of KC) was hitting higher than that and was getiing ripped and sent to minors?
June 29th, 20111:35 pm
@YADE- Heyward wishes he was batting close to .300 since coming back….”Since returning from 3-week DL stint, Heyward is 10-for-39 (.256) in 10 games” lower than that now…..maybe he is turning it around a little but he isn’t and never will be a .300 hitter….
June 29th, 20111:36 pm
I agree with “Reality Check”, the Braves are in good position for second half. Great pitching and only one player (Brian McCann) having good season so far. With pitching, Prado coming back and if 2 of 3 (Uggla, Chipper, Heyward) can have good second half, there is no telling how good the rest of season will be.
June 29th, 20111:40 pm
If ifs and buts were candies and nuts….
June 29th, 20111:48 pm
In today’s baseball .270 is the new .300. Trust me, Heyward is the least of this team’s concerns.
June 29th, 20111:56 pm
@YADE LOL ok…so heyward is as good a hitter as Mccann who is actually batting over .300. not a chance but at least your an optimist.
@betty- i agree heyward gets a pass that nobody else gets. i don’t get it either.
June 29th, 20111:58 pm
@YADE and he’s not batting .270 either! LOL try .230…you aren’t entitled to your own set of facts. the facts are the facts man. he only played well at the first of last season. he got everybody excited and hasn’t played well since LAST june
June 29th, 20112:05 pm
Compared to the league how many opposite field hits do we have? It seems that the outside portion of the plate is a dead zone for some of these guys
June 29th, 20112:06 pm
I dont ever recall saying Heyward was as good a hitter as McCann, but Heyward can hit .270
Wait ….You are right. Let’s trade Heyward. No, better yet, let’s send him down to the minors. Yeah, that’s it…..LOL !
June 29th, 20112:08 pm
Please, Reality Check, I’m not exactly picking up on your frequency here. Would you please just clarify for this not-so-smart Braves fan how the fact that the Braves are doing well in the standings in spite of all of their injuries – with which I am in agreement – makes Atlanta Braves fans the worst in the country? No comprende.
Heyward is coming off an injury, In April before the injury he had 7 HRs and was hitting about 270. In the last week since returning from the DL he has been hitting the ball with authority that he did not have in the time he was injured before going on the DL. It was fashionable to make light of Heyward’s injury, but the evidence suggests it did play a big part in his performance. If we are to judge Heyward, we should see how he does during the remainder of the season. Neither Schafer nor Heyward are the biggest concerns with our offense at the moment and a healthy Heyward could be bigger than an acquired bat during the seond half of the season.

“Whoever thinks the Braves should trade Jair Jurgens should be banned from commenting due to being extremely stupid.”
Pretty sure even a modicum of intelligence isn’t a requirement for posting here.
June 29th, 20112:10 pm
According to some of the other geniuses on this blog, we need to ship Heyward outta here. He is a bust !!! He doesn’t deserve to wear the uniform…LOL !
June 29th, 20112:11 pm
Just a note jim and Jim are two different people and the opinions of one are not necessarily the opinions of the other!!
June 29th, 20112:14 pm
@JIM…i agree in the sense that both heyward and shafer should have the entire season before they are judged, especially shafer since he hasn’t really played a full season in the majors at all.
as for heyward, i don’t think he should be traded right now. but,i do think the braves will have to reconsider his long term potential if he doesn’t pick it up by the end of the season. he’s clearly athletic and capable but RBI’s from rightfield will be the test for him
June 29th, 20112:15 pm
These are probably the same geniuses who wanted to send Freeman back to AAA when he was struggling a month or so ago.
June 29th, 20112:19 pm
Compared to the league how many opposite field hits do we have? It seems that the outside portion of the plate is a dead zone for some of these guys. May have nothing to do with our hitting just an observation!!
June 29th, 20112:21 pm
You guys worried about Heyward really need to calm down.
This is his second season, that his been plagued by injury.
Pitchers are starting to figure out how to pitch to him and he is having to make the adjustments just like any young player.
Which by the way he is making the adjustments, opposite the swingin fool Uggla, who is the real problem with this lineup.
June 29th, 20112:25 pm
Four lefties in a row at the top of today’s lineup, but I like it. Chipper needs the rest and Conrad is the better offensive option at the moment. The only worry is that Lowe is a groundball pitcher and I hope there aren’t a lot of chances at 3B.
June 29th, 20112:29 pm
there isn’t enough time in the world to discuss uggla’s horrible swing, but he is under contract whether we like it or not. heyward on the other has not been signed to a long term deal, hence the discussion
June 29th, 20112:37 pm
If the Braves try to shop Heyward they will have to install a SWAT Team in front Wren’s office to keep the other MLB teams from knocking the dang door down…….And Wren would be fired for ever considering it.
jim, “chipper needs the rest” you may be right, but empirically he seems to be getting a LOT of rest. Any idea of how often FG gives him a rest. Gehrig is rolling over in his grave!!
June 29th, 20112:51 pm
June 29th, 2011
“@YADE and he’s not batting .270 either! LOL try .230…you aren’t entitled to your own set of facts. the facts are the facts man. he only played well at the first of last season. he got everybody excited and hasn’t played well since LAST june.”
Yep. But don’t be saying things like this because plenty around here don’t like to hear it, can’t acknowledge it, can’t accept it, think it really isn’t so, etc. With Heyward and Uggla, it’s always “could”, “might”, “if”….
Each had at least one filthy AB last night, the kind that make you sit up and take notice. They have to eventually be able to KEEP IT UP CONSISTENTLY for it to make much difference.
Through half a season – in other words, it’s not early anymore – they haven’t.
well people never thought jeff francouer would be traded either. where is he playing now? the royals, not in atlanta.
June 29th, 20112:55 pm
Alex – at 39, Gehrig WAS dead.
June 29th, 20112:58 pm
@Phil. i am starting to see that. facts aren’t really important on here. i was impressed with heyward’s walk last night too. he does look better than before the DL list. we shall see how this plays out.
June 29th, 20113:01 pm
The Giants should trade Buster Posey!!! Posey hasn’t gotten a hit for the Giants in at least a month now!!!
June 29th, 20113:04 pm
So I guess from now on every young player who struggles will be the next Jeff Francoeur…. Man he really gave Braves fans a serious complex…
June 29th, 20113:06 pm
fred- i have a foolproof method for ”Larry quotes”….. When i need to hear his opinion, I go to the local elementary school and ask the nearest first grader.
June 29th, 20113:08 pm
DONT DONT sign REYES
This is a contract year. He is giving 150% to get big money. Reyes is injury prone. No one in their right mind would play him 100+ million.
I am sure some team will cough up the cash. ie. Jayson Werth
June 29th, 20113:11 pm
with the swing heyward he should look at some videos of darrell evans with his golf type swing which may improve his ability to make solid contact rather than swing wildly at the off the plate pitches which he consistently misses. a compact swing will make him more powerful on the inside pitches
Braves have 5th best record in MLB
We are having a great season
June 29th, 20113:12 pm
Struggling ceases to be struggling in the conventional sense when it stretches into years….Francouer flubbed around for multiple seasons. Heyward has the rest of this year and 2 more to get it going, for the sake of argument, before it ceases to be struggling and obviously amounts to something else – flopping.
I think he’ll get it going consistently at some point here. Do I think he’s a sure fire all star and hall of famer as so many think/wish? Nope. Possible solid player? Absolutely. But we need action and not incessant talk to back that up.
June 29th, 20113:14 pm
If only we knew about Jeff F struggles.
We could have traded him to texas instead of Elvis.
If we did we would have your SS and lead off hitter for next 8 years

“Braves have 5th best record in MLB
We are having a great season.”
We’re on pace to finish around 91-71 or so….that’s not great but it is quite good, especially with all the injuries and wretched hitting performances…
June 29th, 20113:26 pm
Why does everyone bash FW?? He is given less than 90 million to build winner (87 million).
We are 15th in payroll this year. If we take into account Chipper, Lowe, Uggla, McLouth.
Frank Wren has built a winner with less than $50 million. He has talent as a GM unlike Theo, Cashman, etc
Yankees: 202 million
Red Sox: 161 million
Phillies: 172 million
June 29th, 20113:36 pm
Great game my 4th point of contact. For god sake we’re playing the Marniers. McLouth can’t bunt worth a S#$% and we still try to bunt him on. I’m sick of him bunting into a popup out. Every other hitter besides Mac was swinging for the fence and getting nice long flyballs.. Small ball people. Chipper looked lost. Hanson had no business being out there. He should have had one or two warmup games in AAA before coming back. It’s a miracle we are where we are at right now. Tells you how bad the rest of the NL sucks.
