Braves best road record in NL. Projection for JJ is 20 wins for the season and projection for Hanson is 18. And, both have missed time with injuries.

Great Sweep Braves! Let’s continue strong against Baltimore. Give everyday Jonny a day or two off…please! Finish the first half strong and let’s reel on those Phillies! Go Braves!!

CF should take everything he can reach. McLouse doesn’t have nearly the range of Schafer, so he couldn’t do that. Braves now have complete defensive CF, one who has range, speed, can track fly balls, and can throw. To the bench Nate should go, when Prado returns or to the other league in a trade if anyone wil bite.

Also, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to bring up Gearin for a few days before the break. He is better than Sherrill and Proctor already. He can give Venters and Kjmbrel a break. So. let’s send Ramirez down until the break or DL Chipper for surgery.

Get about 3 seconds into reading dumba55 Fredi’s quotes and I skip to players. Can he not conduct an interview without saying ‘Helluva”? He’s a moron and the luckiest man in baseball.

“No, no. He’s fine. But we don’t want him to get to that point. So we’re going to have to manage that a little bit better, for our part.”

That says it all. He doesn’t know how to manage.

Jorge Cantu has been released. Plays 3rd, 1st, Lf and has played for Fredi and bats right handed tho I’d rather have betemit. McLouth can’t or won’t throw everyone kpws that. Leave him in Seattle bring back Chone Figgins, speed, leadoff, CF, 3b and stop in San Diego and pick up Ludwick. Problems solved. Why have all the minor league talent if you can’t put it to use. Only 5 can be starting pitchers.

So, Fredi. It’s finally getting through to you. Venters needs some rest. And one day isn’t going to do it. His effectiveness is going South. Hell, a blind man could see that with his cane!

Finally! Fredi admits Venters is tired. Lets hope he gives him the rest he says that he will. However, both Bobby and Fredi have said things like this in the past and quickly abandoned this approach, saying a given game was too important. Let us hope that my prediction that continuing to use Venters this way would wear him out by the end of July and make him useless for the stretch drive was not wrong because he is worn out by the end of June.

Not offended. Just annoyed. He sounds so scripted in his interviews instead of just being real. What are you gonna do though? Unfortunately, he’s going to be the manager for a while and we have to put up with it. We know he wont be fired. Thats just not the Braves’ way. Cant admit their wrongs.

Look, Im just a helluva fan and want my team to win championships. We have a helluva team, and should be able to get it done. All the pieces are there. We had a helluva good hitting coach in TP last year but Fredi had a helluva good idea to bring in his own guys to mark his territory. And might I add, Parrish is doing a helluva job.

Helluva.

KK pitching in Mississippi tonight. 2 innings–5 hits–5 runs–1 HR. Behind 5-0 after 2. Big big mistake by Wren. Along with McLouse mistake. That will clear 13 mil for next year. Then, add 2.5 by not bringing Gonzalez back, 3 mil for not bringing Linebrink back, 1 mil by dropping George Sherrill. That is 19.5 mil for next year.
Wren’s problem this year is he has basically no money unless he can trade Lowe, Gonzalez, or McLouse now. So, he might be forced to settle for Cantu or Betemit.

CF’s are supposed to get anything they can get to….And on that note, Jason ran in front of Jordan for a ball about a week ago. Young guys, finding their way out there. I’d a hell of a lot rather have someone going too hard for a ball than not hard enough.

We need a third baseman very badly… Chipper is a lil bitch and we do not need brooks conrad backin him up…. i say we should trade for wilson betemit and just have him for the rest of the year… he is not that bad at all…. then hopefully chipper will retire at the end of the year… We then should put prado at third base or keep him at left field and get a stud left fielder or third basemen for next year! by the way this is kind of the guy we are looking at:

The Braves could use another outfield bat with Martin Prado currently on the disabled list. Josh Willingham has a track record of hitting well in the National League East from his time with the Florida Marlins and Washington Nationals.

The Braves have reportedly already checked in with the A’s about his availability and are a logical fit for Willingham if he does not stay with the Athletics for the remainder of the season

Him along with Reed Johnson(Cubs) are who the Braves are interested in adding!!!

It was a great joy to go to these three games here in Seattle and watch the Braves represent. Today I also got to take my two boys, fully dressed in Bravos gear. I would say around 40% of the crowd was supporting Atlanta during each game, which is also clear when you see that the M’s draw around 15K for most weeknight games and each of these games drew 25-30K. Thank you Superstation of old; what a marketing weapon that was, and it is so missed now.

The Mariners and the Braves have a lot in common, but the Braves have one huge advantage right now in terms of one of the hottest hitters going (McCann).

Some thoughts on the series:
1) McCann for MVP. I saw an SI list yesterday where he wasn’t in the top ten which is shocking. He got good swings all series long and just looked in control. Also a great throw to nail Kennedy at 2B yesterday.
2) Freeman swings with no fear, it’s great to see and bodes well for him long term.
3) Heyward looked overmatched mostly. Rolling so many weak ground balls to 2B. He finally hit one or two line drives, but wow what a difference a year makes. In fact, most of the rest of the lineup looked overmatched but the M’s pitchers have that effect on a lot of teams, including good ones like the Phils, Red Sox, etc.
4) Great work by Hanson yesterday rallying when I thought he was going to get knocked out early. He had nothing in the first 3-4 innings yesterday. And then the Braves finally drew some walks; what a difference as they kept that going today against Felix.
5) Lowe was the best starter in the series for either team. Efficient, good command. Where has that been the past month?
6) I am a Fredi supporter, but Venters should not have been in that game today after pitching yesterday and twice over the weekend. In the AL park, Fredi did not need to change pitchers every inning. Why take O’Flaherty out today?

I am lucky to be in Denver for work in mid-July when the Braves are there, hopefully I can get to a game there too.

Serious question….is there a damn braves blog that is not inhabited with a bunch of morons….”Fire FG Fire LP Fire this Fire that….Chipper is a bum….everyone sucks….we are the worst”

This is damn pathetic. If you don’t like the team don’t watch them and shut the hell up. Yes they have problems and so does every damn team. Shut the hell up with the “I know more than a REAL MANAGER FOR A MAJOR LEAGUE TEAM” knows crap.

By the way I love the fumanchoo on Wedge all series….loved it lol. I admit we need to improve CF and move Schafer to a “defensive replacement” role but that is my humble opinion. I love this team way it is especially when Prado comes back.

No excuse for using Venters today. Just dumb. Its pretty clear being tired is an issue when he says over and over again he cant get the ball down. On the flip side, I was super thrilled to see Lowe step up and have the team give him some support. This team being 12 games over .500 is truly remarkable with all that has happened (or not happened) and as Fredi would say I have to tip my cap to ‘em. McCann is clearly an MVP level player. Freeman is cruising toward ROY. JJ is a strong candidate for the NL CY Young award. There’s some great things going on in this ball club. Even Uggla is showing signs of what he is capable of.

What I am really concerned about is Gonzo. While Uggla is finding his way Gonzo is losing his. Don’t know whats wrong with him but he just seems overmatched everyday and has no pitch recognition or discipline. He cant even bunt. Think the dude has lost all confidence at the plate. Not good.

But overall the final months of the season should be exciting and the Braves have put themselves in a nice position to do some serious damage and make a deep run. But first things first sweep those pesky O’s.

arrowhead1959

June 29th, 2011
11:31 pm

Braves for Life;I agree; should be an exciting second half as the other wild card teams have real issues; need to get Gonzo going and get some more bench help (Julio Lugo-really??)

I was thinking of Kinsler sorry. What are you going to give up arrowhead for him then since you are obviously smart enough to be the next manager/gm/owner of this team? I bow to your knowledge. So from what I read here everybody is so intelligent……….we get Keppinger and Bourne from Houston for………….? NO TEAM GIVES A GUY AWAY FOR NOTHING……….at minimum it is prospects………..so what damn “prospects are you going to give up??????????????/ i WOULD LOVE TO HEAR THIS.

Please fill in the blank.

Maybe here is an idea………….THIS ISN’T FANTASY BASEBALL. There are people smarter than you and me that run all 30 organizations in the majors for a damn reason.

Braves4life……..I agree and disagree with the Venters thing……..He was already warming up…….off day tomorrow….I would go with him also. Venters in his own words said he didn’t make pitches….that happens…..sometimes pitchers just don’t have it. But I go with the horse that brought me when I know I have an off day tomorrow and it is also an early game today. I would rather not seen him last night than today….just my opinion.

@arrowhead….Julio Lugo is a defensive guy. And I quote an unnamed GM from ESPN.com on Buster’s blogs………….”Julio doesn’t have the range he used to, but if he touches the ball………YOUR OUT.

Joseph

June 29th, 2011

Lugo and KK? Do your know how much KK makes? I am sorry I don’t mean to disrespect you but………you have got to be kidding. Lugo in a package I could see maybe………….but KK? THERE IS NO TEAM IN THE WORLD THAT WOULD TAKE KK. Have you seen his salary?

Houston is rebuilding, we can agree on that. They want prospects not contracts that will not help them. We would have to give up Tehran or Delgado at the very least to get anything from houston. If we lucky Minor only. But no way KK and Lugo for Keppinger or anybody of value.

Not a bad idea but Gonzo is too good at short. His stellar defense at the games toughest position makes up for his sub-par offensive stats. I’m good for using that prospect you are talking about, along with Schafer and sending them to Houston for Michael Bourn.

I mean we just SWEPT the Mariners. You would have thought we had been swept, our bullpen blew another game, and we have one or the worst records in baseball. It’s crazy to sit here and read some of the stuff people put on here. This is exactly why we are made fun of around the country as far as being a sports town. We have the SECOND BEST record in the NL by THREE GAMES. Oh yeah and we have the THIRD BEST RECORD in baseball. Damn people be happy we can win games and are a legit contender. Oh yeah and we have a winning record against the Phillies this year. I can’t wait for the trip to Philly right before the allstar break. Yeah, Nate’s gotta get outta Jordo’s way. Either he can’t hear Jordo screaming, or he’s being a bit obstinate, ornery in his old age. I don’t know, I really like seeing Schafer patrol the outfield. I just wish he could hit lefties, maybe throw more bunts down like he did today. It’s great though having two speed guys on base at the same time, and then Heyward hitting a bullet and I imagine it’s like a video game watching the guys spin around the paths.

I like how the Braves are winning these days. It’s not just in one way, as we saw in the Seattle series, it’s in a number of ways. I like how Freddi is doing things a bit differently, the Braves I saw in the Seattle series do not look predictable or tired. They look sharp in many ways, and faster than previous teams. This is a good thing.

Chipper put himself in a little pickle by calling out Heyward…he had to stay in the lineup injured…I hope his point was made and he can sit for a while. We are a different team when he is healthy…the season is long…either rest or retire Chip…we need a RH bat…and RH you are really bad right now!!!

Fellow Braves Fans Who don’t Hate Chipper: Forget it. It is pointless to carry on a discourse with the Chipper Bashers. As I’ve said before, no amount of reason, fact, or sense of fairness will sway them. I suspect people of their ilk were bashing even the great Dale Murphy in his final playing days.
