Need to go get Wilson Betemit now.

Thanks DOB. Safe flight! Great series and road trip. A well deserved off day. Finishing strong!
June 29th, 20117:57 pm
I was taught the center fielder catches everything he can get too.
Braves best road record in NL. Projection for JJ is 20 wins for the season and projection for Hanson is 18. And, both have missed time with injuries.
June 29th, 20117:59 pm
Great Sweep Braves! Let’s continue strong against Baltimore. Give everyday Jonny a day or two off…please! Finish the first half strong and let’s reel on those Phillies! Go Braves!!
CF should take everything he can reach. McLouse doesn’t have nearly the range of Schafer, so he couldn’t do that. Braves now have complete defensive CF, one who has range, speed, can track fly balls, and can throw. To the bench Nate should go, when Prado returns or to the other league in a trade if anyone wil bite.
June 29th, 20118:00 pm
Thanks for the quotes, DOB!
June 29th, 20118:02 pm
Also, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to bring up Gearin for a few days before the break. He is better than Sherrill and Proctor already. He can give Venters and Kjmbrel a break. So. let’s send Ramirez down until the break or DL Chipper for surgery.
June 29th, 20118:07 pm
Get about 3 seconds into reading dumba55 Fredi’s quotes and I skip to players. Can he not conduct an interview without saying ‘Helluva”? He’s a moron and the luckiest man in baseball.
June 29th, 20118:16 pm
The Braves want to maintain their classy and professional image, yet they keep hiring guys who beat up their women.
June 29th, 20118:19 pm
“No, no. He’s fine. But we don’t want him to get to that point. So we’re going to have to manage that a little bit better, for our part.”
That says it all. He doesn’t know how to manage.
June 29th, 20118:20 pm
Jorge Cantu has been released. Plays 3rd, 1st, Lf and has played for Fredi and bats right handed tho I’d rather have betemit. McLouth can’t or won’t throw everyone kpws that. Leave him in Seattle bring back Chone Figgins, speed, leadoff, CF, 3b and stop in San Diego and pick up Ludwick. Problems solved. Why have all the minor league talent if you can’t put it to use. Only 5 can be starting pitchers.
June 29th, 20118:23 pm
You offended by “helluva”? That’s a REAL brutal word I know.
June 29th, 20118:28 pm
Keep scoring five runs a game and everything will fall in place.
June 29th, 20118:29 pm
Duh, he actually admitted that he is over using Venters….. just because all of us can see it, doesnt mean you have to admit that you suck.
So, Fredi. It’s finally getting through to you. Venters needs some rest. And one day isn’t going to do it. His effectiveness is going South. Hell, a blind man could see that with his cane!
June 29th, 20118:35 pm
Finally! Fredi admits Venters is tired. Lets hope he gives him the rest he says that he will. However, both Bobby and Fredi have said things like this in the past and quickly abandoned this approach, saying a given game was too important. Let us hope that my prediction that continuing to use Venters this way would wear him out by the end of July and make him useless for the stretch drive was not wrong because he is worn out by the end of June.
Braves Ball Boy
June 29th, 20118:36 pm
Working in the clubhouse…..Man oh man, Jay Hey is HUNG like a horse…damn
June 29th, 20118:38 pm
Not offended. Just annoyed. He sounds so scripted in his interviews instead of just being real. What are you gonna do though? Unfortunately, he’s going to be the manager for a while and we have to put up with it. We know he wont be fired. Thats just not the Braves’ way. Cant admit their wrongs.
Look, Im just a helluva fan and want my team to win championships. We have a helluva team, and should be able to get it done. All the pieces are there. We had a helluva good hitting coach in TP last year but Fredi had a helluva good idea to bring in his own guys to mark his territory. And might I add, Parrish is doing a helluva job.
June 29th, 20118:41 pm
KK pitching in Mississippi tonight. 2 innings–5 hits–5 runs–1 HR. Behind 5-0 after 2. Big big mistake by Wren. Along with McLouse mistake. That will clear 13 mil for next year. Then, add 2.5 by not bringing Gonzalez back, 3 mil for not bringing Linebrink back, 1 mil by dropping George Sherrill. That is 19.5 mil for next year.
Wren’s problem this year is he has basically no money unless he can trade Lowe, Gonzalez, or McLouse now. So, he might be forced to settle for Cantu or Betemit.
Coach (2011 Fredi G. a go!)
June 29th, 20118:42 pm
Cox abused Venters last season, Fredi is doing the same thing. They are playing with fire and we know what happens with fire…….
June 29th, 20118:44 pm
June 29th, 20119:02 pm
Did someone say we need to get Wilson Bettemit? Really?
June 29th, 20119:03 pm
LOL @ the people saying we need Wilson Betmit, Cantu and Figgins, those will be HUGE upgrades….oh wait…
June 29th, 20119:08 pm
Everyday Fredi Gonzalez. As in every single day he does something retarded. Up 5-1 and he goes to Venters. WTF? To use some of his phraseology, “if you’re not going to rest him then, when are you?”
June 29th, 20119:12 pm
CF’s are supposed to get anything they can get to….And on that note, Jason ran in front of Jordan for a ball about a week ago. Young guys, finding their way out there. I’d a hell of a lot rather have someone going too hard for a ball than not hard enough.
June 29th, 20119:14 pm
Why the heck won’t Fredi let pitchers pitch into the 7th inning.
I thought Beachy should have been out there in the 7th and today I thought
Lowe was good for a few more batters.
June 29th, 20119:28 pm
June 29th, 20119:31 pm
I seriously am not too hard on FG, but he must be out of his mind running Venters out there with a 4 run lead….the guy is tired…obviously.
June 29th, 20119:36 pm
We need a third baseman very badly… Chipper is a lil bitch and we do not need brooks conrad backin him up…. i say we should trade for wilson betemit and just have him for the rest of the year… he is not that bad at all…. then hopefully chipper will retire at the end of the year… We then should put prado at third base or keep him at left field and get a stud left fielder or third basemen for next year! Any1 else agree?
June 29th, 20119:43 pm
Nope Steve no one agrees
June 29th, 20119:51 pm
And Dan Uggla is still in the line up ? That’s like continuing to play a broken record…
June 29th, 20119:52 pm
@ My thoughts………..
Chone Figgins? Do you actually follow baseball or does the “name” intrigue you?
His BA and OBP are almost as bad as Uggla’s without any of the pop. Besides that he’s on an expensive contract and LM won’t spring for the money.
June 29th, 20119:53 pm
How dumb is is that a manger says he is over-using a player then overuses him again today ?
June 29th, 20119:56 pm
DOB, no quotes from Uggla ? Wait, I forgot. You actually got to do something to get quoted….
June 29th, 20119:58 pm
After raeding these posts I want to be Thankful to the Lord and the Braves orgnization that FG is our manager and not these idiots!!!
Good job Bravos!!! see u this weekend!!!
Fredi using over-worked Venters is like riding a tired horse two more miles while saying “this horse is dead tired and needs rest”.
June 29th, 201110:00 pm
Dan is close, he is now taking pitches he was swinging at and has stopped so many strikeouts….he is close to breaking out in a big way!!!
June 29th, 201110:03 pm
Yep. he might actually finish the year hitting .200 ! Great !
June 29th, 201110:04 pm
to do that he will need to hit about .250 the 2nd half so Ill take it!!!
June 29th, 201110:05 pm
Did you know that Chone is pronounced Shawn ?
by the way this is kind of the guy we are looking at:
The Braves could use another outfield bat with Martin Prado currently on the disabled list. Josh Willingham has a track record of hitting well in the National League East from his time with the Florida Marlins and Washington Nationals.
The Braves have reportedly already checked in with the A’s about his availability and are a logical fit for Willingham if he does not stay with the Athletics for the remainder of the season
Him along with Reed Johnson(Cubs) are who the Braves are interested in adding!!!
June 29th, 201110:06 pm
I’ll take benching his no-hittin’ ass !
Is it the “Sophomore slump” or is Heyward the most overrated player in the majors? Somebody needs to park the cars out behind the fence to see if he can still hit them. Probably not. Strikes out too many times.
June 29th, 201110:07 pm
yeah bench Uggla for Conrad….makes sense only to you!!!! What an idiot!!!
June 29th, 201110:08 pm
Heyward is fine….man what a bunch of crybabies!!!!!
WE ARE 47-35 FOLKS!!!!!
Can they trade Dan Uggla back to Marlins for Omar Infante & some bats to be named later ???
June 29th, 201110:10 pm
chipper would do the team a service if he would retire, hes putting up numbers but we need a true left fielder (hunter pence, the astros are selling) and prado can go to third. try and shed cash to sign reyes in the offseason if possible
oh yeah the great Infante with his awesome .257 batting average and 1 hr and 24 rbi’s….yeah hes the answer!!!!
My uncle who has a gimpy leg could hit .170 and play 2B better than Uggla.
It was a great joy to go to these three games here in Seattle and watch the Braves represent. Today I also got to take my two boys, fully dressed in Bravos gear. I would say around 40% of the crowd was supporting Atlanta during each game, which is also clear when you see that the M’s draw around 15K for most weeknight games and each of these games drew 25-30K. Thank you Superstation of old; what a marketing weapon that was, and it is so missed now.
The Mariners and the Braves have a lot in common, but the Braves have one huge advantage right now in terms of one of the hottest hitters going (McCann).
Some thoughts on the series:
1) McCann for MVP. I saw an SI list yesterday where he wasn’t in the top ten which is shocking. He got good swings all series long and just looked in control. Also a great throw to nail Kennedy at 2B yesterday.
2) Freeman swings with no fear, it’s great to see and bodes well for him long term.
3) Heyward looked overmatched mostly. Rolling so many weak ground balls to 2B. He finally hit one or two line drives, but wow what a difference a year makes. In fact, most of the rest of the lineup looked overmatched but the M’s pitchers have that effect on a lot of teams, including good ones like the Phils, Red Sox, etc.
4) Great work by Hanson yesterday rallying when I thought he was going to get knocked out early. He had nothing in the first 3-4 innings yesterday. And then the Braves finally drew some walks; what a difference as they kept that going today against Felix.
5) Lowe was the best starter in the series for either team. Efficient, good command. Where has that been the past month?
6) I am a Fredi supporter, but Venters should not have been in that game today after pitching yesterday and twice over the weekend. In the AL park, Fredi did not need to change pitchers every inning. Why take O’Flaherty out today?
I am lucky to be in Denver for work in mid-July when the Braves are there, hopefully I can get to a game there too.
June 29th, 201110:11 pm
we will not be in the reyes sweepstakes and chipper has earned the right to play and go out however he wants!!!
I agree with Ken. We have the 2nd best record in NL after losing key guys to injury all year and # of guys hitting way below their average. And a bunch of morons on here think Fredi should be fired! McFly, we just sept the Mariners and their best arms! Sheesh. Get a life!
June 29th, 201110:12 pm
Yeah, and Infante is making about 1 million while Dan is making $15 million.
Lowe was the best starter in the series, but it was good to see him pitch well!!!
Brandon Beachy was lights out Monday!!!
June 29th, 201110:13 pm
Steve 34, Chipper is a lil bitch….who the crap are u to call someone that has been Mr. Braves for years a bitch. What kind of Braves fan do you claim to be. Get a f~~~ life.
June 29th, 201110:14 pm
oh is that what you are upset about is the money….okay how many games have you attended this season…I will say 2 at the most…so lets just say your $400 went for Mccann and I paid for Uggla, so you will SHUT THE HELL UP!!!
June 29th, 201110:15 pm
hes always hurt so doing the 2011 braves team more hurt than good. great career it may be that time.
June 29th, 201110:16 pm
we want our future hall of famer whos hitting .256 to sit down so Brooks Conrad and his lifetime .233 can play….yeah that makes alot of sense!!!
June 29th, 201110:20 pm
Can’t use your bullpen staff day after day.
Anyone notice Venter’s numbers the last
four games..Offense must start to contribute.
Only halfway through the season.
June 29th, 201110:21 pm
brooks is playing due to chippers bum knee. hes trying to avoid the DL or surgery but we all know how that goes in any sport. im not taking away from chipper hes had a hall of fame career. just thinking abt the rest of this season and future seasons.
and just for the record dan makes 9 million and Infante 3 million
June 29th, 201110:22 pm
Serious question….is there a damn braves blog that is not inhabited with a bunch of morons….”Fire FG Fire LP Fire this Fire that….Chipper is a bum….everyone sucks….we are the worst”
This is damn pathetic. If you don’t like the team don’t watch them and shut the hell up. Yes they have problems and so does every damn team. Shut the hell up with the “I know more than a REAL MANAGER FOR A MAJOR LEAGUE TEAM” knows crap.
By the way I love the fumanchoo on Wedge all series….loved it lol. I admit we need to improve CF and move Schafer to a “defensive replacement” role but that is my humble opinion. I love this team way it is especially when Prado comes back.
Again I repeat my initial question………IS THERE A BLOG THAT IS NOT FULL OF ABSOLUTE MORONS CRYING AFTER SWEEPING 3 AMAZING PITCHERS IN THEIR OWN DAMN PARK?
when Prado comes back, Chipper will go DL and be ready for the stretch run!!!
COME ON BRAVES FANS HAVE SOME FAITH!!!!
June 29th, 201110:24 pm
AGREE Joseph….Schaffer though will stay for a little while longer, the orgnization wants to see if he can be leadoff of the future before trade deadline.
Keep up the Support, hope you come out this weekend!!!
June 29th, 201110:25 pm
If not DL maybe extra rest. They did say earlier that either rest or surgery…..but Prado is key here.
June 29th, 201110:27 pm
our fans need to stop looking at Phillies and understand we just want in the dance and then we will see if they can beat us 4 out of 7!!!
June 29th, 201110:28 pm
we are still a really good team
June 29th, 201110:31 pm
@Ken…I have seen every single pitch of every single game either in person or on TV since I was 5. I was there the game Ted (rolling eyes) “managed” ………sorry had to laugh at even typing that one again. I am just sick and tired of hearing……..FG shold be fired ……he should do this he should do that……….
Ok my opinion on Venters tonight…………DID ANY OF YOU READ HIS OWN QUOTES?????/
And I am begging and I mean really begging…………PLEASE DO NOT LET A SINGLE ONE OF OUR PITCHERS…….JJ…HANSON…VENTERS…KIMBREL EVEN WARM UP AT THE ALL-STAR GAME. please. Let them have the honor of being named to the team I am all for it, they all deserve it. But please do not allow them to pitch. Rest them but let them go and have fun and enjoy the atmosphere. Just keep them off the mound in an exhibition game….please.
henry from TN
June 29th, 201110:42 pm
good game—good win—gonna be running into better offense the next 3 games but not as good pitching—the birds just beat the reds 2 out of 3
June 29th, 201111:01 pm
lets hope this team doesn’t wake up……it feels like they have not found there way or have an identity….still they have the second best record in baseball. I can’t wait to see the rest of the season!
June 29th, 201111:02 pm
THE TRUTH IS…
DENNIS REYNOLDS IS A MORON!!!!!!!
June 29th, 201111:06 pm
Go get 300 hitting (dawg,Atlantan) Jeff Keppinger for next to nothing and let him sub for Chipper, Alex “swing batter”, or Uggla every night.
June 29th, 201111:08 pm
jbone….”they have not found there(their) way or have an idnetity???? Do you not remember the 90s? Dominant pitching and slightly above average hitting does win. Yes yes yes 1 world championship, but I think that had a lot more to do with BRAVES winning it in 2nd week of September and others having to fight and claw. We do have an identity. It is the BEST PITCHING ROSTER IN THE MAJOR LEAGUES.
June 29th, 201111:12 pm
@arrowhead………..WHY WOULD A DIVISION LEADING TEAM GIVE UP THEIR 2nd BASEMAN FOR NEXT TO NOTHING????? Are your drunk? I am just curious…..what would you give up in our organization to the Rangers for Keppinger? Please do tell. And please to tell why you are so damn smart to know that A DIVISION LEADING…..WAS IN THE WORLD SERIES LAST YEAR TEAM WANTS TO GIVE AWAY THEIR EVERYDAY 2nd BASEMAN FOR NEXT TO NOTHING??????????
I mean freaking come on ……………EVER HEAR OF COMMON SENSE GUYS?
June 29th, 201111:22 pm
Uh, Joseph, ARE YOU DRUNK??? Keppinger plays for Houston and they PUBLICLY announced he was available and SI.com has him as a good fit as a utility player for the Bravos; try to keep up please….
June 29th, 201111:23 pm
Joseph, your comment at 10:29 made me happy. I’ve manged to say that for a while. Gracias
Braves 4 Life
June 29th, 201111:27 pm
No excuse for using Venters today. Just dumb. Its pretty clear being tired is an issue when he says over and over again he cant get the ball down. On the flip side, I was super thrilled to see Lowe step up and have the team give him some support. This team being 12 games over .500 is truly remarkable with all that has happened (or not happened) and as Fredi would say I have to tip my cap to ‘em. McCann is clearly an MVP level player. Freeman is cruising toward ROY. JJ is a strong candidate for the NL CY Young award. There’s some great things going on in this ball club. Even Uggla is showing signs of what he is capable of.
What I am really concerned about is Gonzo. While Uggla is finding his way Gonzo is losing his. Don’t know whats wrong with him but he just seems overmatched everyday and has no pitch recognition or discipline. He cant even bunt. Think the dude has lost all confidence at the plate. Not good.
But overall the final months of the season should be exciting and the Braves have put themselves in a nice position to do some serious damage and make a deep run. But first things first sweep those pesky O’s.
June 29th, 201111:31 pm
Braves for Life;I agree; should be an exciting second half as the other wild card teams have real issues; need to get Gonzo going and get some more bench help (Julio Lugo-really??)
I was thinking of Kinsler sorry. What are you going to give up arrowhead for him then since you are obviously smart enough to be the next manager/gm/owner of this team? I bow to your knowledge. So from what I read here everybody is so intelligent……….we get Keppinger and Bourne from Houston for………….? NO TEAM GIVES A GUY AWAY FOR NOTHING……….at minimum it is prospects………..so what damn “prospects are you going to give up??????????????/ i WOULD LOVE TO HEAR THIS.
Please fill in the blank.
Maybe here is an idea………….THIS ISN’T FANTASY BASEBALL. There are people smarter than you and me that run all 30 organizations in the majors for a damn reason.
June 29th, 201111:35 pm
Knowing Houston the last several years, they’d take Lugo and Kawakami…
Steve34 and Dan Struggla….
You are both Dennis Reynolds cousins I understand….the family tree is ignorance gone to seed….
I would pay to see Steve34 call Chipper a “lil bitch” to his face…………….
June 29th, 201111:38 pm
Braves4life……..I agree and disagree with the Venters thing……..He was already warming up…….off day tomorrow….I would go with him also. Venters in his own words said he didn’t make pitches….that happens…..sometimes pitchers just don’t have it. But I go with the horse that brought me when I know I have an off day tomorrow and it is also an early game today. I would rather not seen him last night than today….just my opinion.
@arrowhead….Julio Lugo is a defensive guy. And I quote an unnamed GM from ESPN.com on Buster’s blogs………….”Julio doesn’t have the range he used to, but if he touches the ball………YOUR OUT.
June 29th, 201111:43 pm
Lugo and KK? Do your know how much KK makes? I am sorry I don’t mean to disrespect you but………you have got to be kidding. Lugo in a package I could see maybe………….but KK? THERE IS NO TEAM IN THE WORLD THAT WOULD TAKE KK. Have you seen his salary?
Houston is rebuilding, we can agree on that. They want prospects not contracts that will not help them. We would have to give up Tehran or Delgado at the very least to get anything from houston. If we lucky Minor only. But no way KK and Lugo for Keppinger or anybody of value.
June 30th, 201112:11 am
It’s official – the Braves have the second-best record in MLB, 2 games behind the Yankees.
June 30th, 201112:14 am
Oops – third. Missed counting the Phils.

The move I think we should make is trading Alex Gonzalez for Alexi Ramirez. What do you think were obviously gonna have to give The White Sox a prospect but I figure it won’t cost too much and their salaries are similar and Ramirez is a better hitter
June 30th, 20111:19 am
You are paying 200 bucks to get into a Braves game? On another note, Wanna buy my 93 Celica? It won’t run all the time but it has a cd player.
June 30th, 20111:25 am
A lot of these GM wannabees, have some ideas that are not very smart.
June 30th, 20111:40 am
Not a bad idea but Gonzo is too good at short. His stellar defense at the games toughest position makes up for his sub-par offensive stats. I’m good for using that prospect you are talking about, along with Schafer and sending them to Houston for Michael Bourn.
June 30th, 20112:28 am
Hamels has not won a Cy Young Award, the question you asked Freddie Freeman about facing Cy young winners.
June 30th, 20113:23 am
i was just about to post the same thing Graham
June 30th, 20114:18 am
I mean we just SWEPT the Mariners. You would have thought we had been swept, our bullpen blew another game, and we have one or the worst records in baseball. It’s crazy to sit here and read some of the stuff people put on here. This is exactly why we are made fun of around the country as far as being a sports town. We have the SECOND BEST record in the NL by THREE GAMES. Oh yeah and we have the THIRD BEST RECORD in baseball. Damn people be happy we can win games and are a legit contender. Oh yeah and we have a winning record against the Phillies this year. I can’t wait for the trip to Philly right before the allstar break. A perfect way to gain some ground and momentum going into the allstar break. GO BRAVES.
June 30th, 20114:42 am
Yeah, Nate’s gotta get outta Jordo’s way. Either he can’t hear Jordo screaming, or he’s being a bit obstinate, ornery in his old age. I don’t know, I really like seeing Schafer patrol the outfield. I just wish he could hit lefties, maybe throw more bunts down like he did today. It’s great though having two speed guys on base at the same time, and then Heyward hitting a bullet and I imagine it’s like a video game watching the guys spin around the paths.
I like how the Braves are winning these days. It’s not just in one way, as we saw in the Seattle series, it’s in a number of ways. I like how Freddi is doing things a bit differently, the Braves I saw in the Seattle series do not look predictable or tired. They look sharp in many ways, and faster than previous teams. This is a good thing.
June 30th, 20117:31 am
Chipper put himself in a little pickle by calling out Heyward…he had to stay in the lineup injured…I hope his point was made and he can sit for a while. We are a different team when he is healthy…the season is long…either rest or retire Chip…we need a RH bat…and RH you are really bad right now!!!
June 30th, 20117:38 am
Fellow Braves Fans Who don’t Hate Chipper: Forget it. It is pointless to carry on a discourse with the Chipper Bashers. As I’ve said before, no amount of reason, fact, or sense of fairness will sway them. I suspect people of their ilk were bashing even the great Dale Murphy in his final playing days.
