Martinez isn’t going well. He’s good in his role. I also wouldn’t count on much from Medlen this year. He’s going to have rust to work off. It will be next season when he pitches as effectively as he can.

I think it’s an amazing sweep considering that they just came from San Diego, a team with a worse record then Seattle and losing 2 out of 3. Then they come in facing Seattle’s Top 3 SP in Bedard, Pineda (better rookie pitchers right now), and King Felix (not the same as last year but still great). Offensive came alive, and it looks like things are starting to click for them.

When Medlen and Moylan come back — if before Sept 1, first one back replaces Proctor, next one will replace Martinez. (if JV has not blown out his arm by then) Linebrink has been OK lately and should have been given the 8th inning today.

Jay Dubu

Fredi has to stop running Venters out there every game, he’s starting to wear down.

Put a combo of Proctor/Linebrink/Sherrill out ther to get throug that 1 inning.

GT Alum

LAG, well, the current BP is

Craig Kimbrel
Scott Linebrink
Cristhian Martinez
Eric O’Flaherty
Scott Proctor
George Sherrill
Jonny Venters

O’Ventbrel aren’t getting demoted, and I don’t see Sherrill or Linebrink being DFA as long as they keep the ERAs under 6, so that leaves Proctor and Martinez, with Meds replacing Martinez as the long reliever.

Of course, if they can keep the ERAs where they are, the Braves might be able to ship Sherrill or Linebrink off to a contender who needs BP help in return for a RH bench bat.

Wilbon on ESPN: Who is the best pitcher in the Bigs? “Hallady, Lee, Hamels, Verlander, Jared Weaver, and Sabathia.” Kornheiser had to bring up Jair Jurjjens and had no idea how to say his name he said it right but he said I probably said that wrong. Jokes.

I think Chipper can play through his injury until the allstar break, then they can DL him and activate Prado to take his place. Prado can hit and play third, McCann 4th, Freeman 5th, Uggla 6th, Mclouth 7th, Alex 8th

I root for FG and I think he’s done some good decisions specially with the lineups and the order etc. But his use of Venters today was an idiotic move. He struggled in SD, aware of the extreme overuse he uses him in back to back days with a 4 run lead today.

Limit his use to 2 games a week until the allstar break for his arm to recover strength and be ready down the stretch. Then maybe with less extra inning games in the second half he can avoid using Johnny so much, and Moylan coming back will also help in that department.

If we want to save the bullpen then we need to score early and give our starters margin for error to go deep into the game. Quite often our starters have to leave around the 7 inning because they need to be PH for. Bottomline we have to give our starters run support.

Good series, always great to sweep and decent road trip. Bats waking up?

From SI’s Joe Lemire – “In this, the bigger and better sequel to 2010’s Year of the Pitcher, Philadelphia and Atlanta stand above the rest. The Phillies have a staff ERA of 3.01 and the Braves clock in at 3.07, putting both clubs on the verge of being the first teams with a sub-3.00 ERA since the 1989 Dodgers had a 2.95.” Pretty impressive. I just don’t see how folks can be so critical of Frank Wren with what he’s done on a relative shoe string. I ain’t the smartest person here but, for me, good job Frank.
