I understand all that. And I think as a move for the next 4-5 years, he would be a really good fit. However, for just 2011, I don’t think he would have a big enough impact to change this team from what they currently are (likely wild-card team), to what we all want them to be (NL favorites). I’m not sure if that player exists, but if it does, that’s who I want us to go after.
Lew Span looks like he’d be a good addition. I haven’t seen him play though and know nothing about the Twins desires for him. I’d imagine, due to his contract, they plan on keeping him around or at least not willing to move him for something less than a nice package.
I do like his OBP though. That’d be nice to put at the top of the line up.
Rc – I don’t disagree with that perception – no, he probably wouldn’t be a huge impact this year, however……..CF is a position we’ve need to fill for several years and now might be the chance to do that.
I seriously doubt that Frank Wren will make a Tex like move for a true impact player – especially given his proclivity to retain young pitching. Span might not be that type of player, but he would definitely fill a major need and do it pretty well.
Jim Tracy didn’t actually say the part about Jordan Schafer. But that was a good one, TennesseePaul.
However, in the Braves’ defense, when basically your entire outfield is injured, guys like Schafer are bound to find their way onto your major league roster, unfortunately.
I agree with a post u made earlier, that Kemp or Reyes are the only guys out there to make a big trade for. I would also add Fielder to that group. If the braves are going to make a major trade these are the players whom are worth of that type of commitment.
Payne I read about that trade the Rockies made and saw Tracy’s response to it and thought, that’s pretty much exactly what is going on in CF in Atlanta, a scholarship program. Tracy wouldn’t say anything about another team to the media that way, he’s a pretty classy guy. But I wouldn’t be surprised if he were managing in Atlanta and a move was made for CF, to hear him say the same exact thing.
Oh well, guess I better close up shop here for a while…should return around 6ish—bet they’ll announce the POtM as soon as we leave. They’ll prob’ly pick Reyes, anyway…
MikeinFl- Just rumors of a possibility of a deal of some sort (very nebulous and speculatory) that i heard on XM Home Plate a while back.
I checked Span out and he seems like a fit. But do I know anything for real or heard anything that indicates a deal for Denard is in the works? No. Just a wish list thing.
No chance on Fielder, since Freeman isn’t going anywhere. Kemp and Reyes both play positions currently filled by replacable players to the Braves (Schafer and Gonzalez).

Considering his replacing this combined line from 2010 through present (.231/.325/.333/.658) he probably would be an impact bat.
