anyone think, after recent struggles, that Freeman actually could end up being a better long-term asset for the Braves than will Heyward? I know he’s still waaaaay young and could very well become a Hall of Famer… but he has been sort of injury-prone thus far. Just making conversation- I’m not saying he sucks, so go easy!
by reason with , you mean get me to accept your version of what you think I said?
Classic transference there dude.
No matter how frigging defensive you are I will repeat it one more time. it had nothing to do with you,
but it is certainly becoming that way.
Phil, I believe he may have been impacted in ways we never know. I left Florida for many reasons-New Yorkers, shoot outs, geriatric Early Birders, gridlock on 95 and one of the reasons was a scientist friend of mine in 02 actually convinced me Florida would be devasted by hurricanes. I can’t even imagine how the people coped with not only the event but the aftermath of no power , soaring temperatures, brutal humidity , shortages and the like.
I’m not a big fan of Nolee and he might come on here and tell me “I don’t need your help”, but I say let’s cut him a break on this one.

Sometimes it’s best to look beyond the numbers. Like Jordan Schafer’s .222 BA and .295 OBP.
The reality is that he’s reached base in 23 of the 32 games played so far. Not to mention his defensive presence and nine stolen bases. Or that the Braves have won 21 of the 32 games Schafer has played in. The kid has played better than his numbers reflect.
No kidding, Soph. That HR derby thing is silly. How long before the winning league in the Derby gets to start the World Series with a 1 game advantage? Geeeesh.
so a guy who had hit say 260/360 wouldn’t have been an improvement over Jordan, coach? and have likely improved the W-L %?
making outs over 70% of the time is acceptable in a lead off hitter?

JD, it cracked me up when I saw that you like the new HR Derby format. Well, brohawks and Derby races aside I do agree with you on most things–we’ll jsut have to overlook those two. LOL
It bear repeating that The only thing troubling for Philly should be that they only have 35 more home games where they have dominated with 45 more on the road where they have played close to .500 ball. The Braves have 42 left at home where they have played well. Its on baby and it will tighten up.
Powder Blue-
yeah, but I take pretty much everything Wren says with a tad bit of skepticism. It’s just GM speak when he says he’s standing pat. Read “standing pat” to mean “other teams haven’t accepted our trade offers yet, or it’s too early and no one’s dealing right now.”
I think for the most part Frank has been pretty close to what he says….

Lew- bank overtakes house, then turns around and sells it because banks obviously aren’t set up to own homes. As far as the defaultees, I don’t know what goes on with them. Never been there, don;t know anyone who has, and hope I never will…
I remember back when the stimulus was being passed that an economist came on a talk show and said, “We should spend all this money paying builders to destroy existing homes. That will get us back to growth faster than anything else.”
Lew- I would imagine there is some sort of court procedure they’ll need to go through to “settle” the issue. I would assume they’d be responsible for part of the principle and none of interest. But like said, no experience with that.
Lew,believe it or not, if a house sells for less than is owed it can be considered as income by IRS. may want to check with an accountant on this, i know someone this happened to.
Lew–The house ultimately gets sold by the bank. The people who walk on the loan get a 1099 filed on the the next tax season for the difference between what they owed and what it was sold for. The IRS regards it as money gained by the defaulter. If they make $100,000 and the house sells for 50K they pay tax on 50K.
Thanks all – appreciate the info. Hope they don’t need to go that route. Luckily, when all the re-fi’s were happening, they only did it once and just for enough to make repairs (them damned hurricanes again) and a new heat pump system and did it for a relatively decent fixed rate.
CB and gdub, y’all are basically saying that the amount that the home-owner “gets out of” is considered income. And, considering that the bank gave the home-owner the principal in the house purchase, this makes sense, since the money wasn’t taxed as income at the time that the house was purchased.
I remember back when the stimulus was being passed that an economist came on a talk show and said, “We should spend all this money paying builders to destroy existing homes. That will get us back to growth faster than anything else.”….ABW
than’s what a lot of the local governing body down here wants to do. raze an older section and rebuild, but in this economy who is gonna afford to buy all the new bigger homes when houses that are already standing and in very good shape can’t get resold?
Lew – make sure to get better understanding of the tax rules. Only way you would owe tax is if you would owe tax on a normal sale at the same price (federal govt doesn’t care about the foreclosure it cares about the sale).
Taxable amount on a sale would be fair market value (whatever the bank sells it for) less tax basis (whatever the initial cost was). As long as it is owned longer than 2 years and primary residence for 2 of last 5 and valued less than 500K no tax impact.
Actually if the price has dropped so that FMV is below purchase price your friend would be entitled to a tax credit for the loss.
nolie – I think the theory is the people who would buy the new houses are the people put to work building them that are currently unemployed. But here you go trying to apply common sense to economic theory.
WOW Would you believe poosablely there may be no NFL this fall and maybe no NBA next winter? If that should happen, hope they will televise some winter league baseball from the Islands.
George- I say let the footballers and basketballers ruin their games. Could be just the thing to give MLB a boost. Although I have to admit, I would miss football a bit. Basketball? Eh, they can keep it. It’s way too overproduced.
I remember [think it was in the mid 80s] there was a winter baseball league made up of retired Major league players, they had to be over 40 years old. the games were televised over MSG network.
so if them guys buys them homes how are they gonna pay the remaining mortgages after all the new construction is over. 5 years of work does not a 30 year mortgage pay.
Murph …again I’m late to the party (as normal) on the discussion from 4pm as I don’t get on here till after work but if you enjoyed the acoustic version of Everlong try their Skin and Bones album…really good.

George – but MSG has fallen out of favor since then. All my asian food advertises no MSG. I’m sure someone would televise them
