“This is the kind of crap that happens when your offense sucks and is happy to score one run.”

No. This kind of crap happens when this is the first year in I dont know how many that the team has taken infield practice.

To Fredi’s credit, he started having them practice fielding – but thanks to Cox’s stupidity in previous years every guy on the team is about ten thousand repetitions short of where they should be

That said, this isnt the end of the world

Fredi wasnt an idiot for using his A-list relievers in a tight game.

Venters must have gone to the beach before the game. He seemed like his mind was somewhere else. He is still best releiver in baseball. They hit 2 balls that didn’t even get out of the infield. Baseball is a wierd game sometimes. Venters not fielding the ball is one thing, but Ross dropping a sure out at home is a joke. He is just like McCann when it comes to fielding a throw from the outfield. Neither one of them can catch a cold. Most pathetic defensive catchers in baseball, and they happen to be on the same team

You can’t blame Jonny. He’s one of the very few guys on this team that’s been doing his job all year. Blame the pathetic offense today. Same garbage we’ve seen all year. Last night was just a fluke.

I can’t stand watching Fredi in the dugout. He just looks like he’s asleep at the wheel and doesn’t even care about what’s going on. Shows no emotion. Looks like a clueless moron. I bet anything Fredi is all smiles after this one.

Some people here are still gonna spill the typical “Well. The Braves are leading the wild card, or so and so games out of first. You should be happy.” The Braves should be winning the East with the best record in baseball with the talent on this team. Find a hitting coach that does his job correctly and a manager who can chew a little ass every now and then.

I’m glad we’re done with the Padres this season. They play the Braves much the same way as do the Nationals. Of course, the Braves play to their competition as lose games they shouldn’t lose and that is why they are not leading their division.

That said, this is a season of parity in MLB and every team is very beatable. That is why divisions every division is still very close and perhaps only two teams are out of the chase at this point.

Fredi is not an idiot but common sense dictates that you have to use your relievers more judiciously. Last night there was no need for Venters with a 6 run lead, even if he had warmed up when the score was tight. He has pitched in quite a few situations where he was not needed. What I’m afraid of is that Venters may be worn out by the end of July, even earlier than he was under Cox last year.

Any game when you have a lead in the 8th and lose is a tough one, but you have to give credit to a good Padres pitching staff, and they were at home. The Cards lost (and I predict they are about to enter the “Marlins Zone”, Arizona lost (they’ll slide), and the Braves only lost ground to the Nationals in the Wild Card. The next three games will be tough. Seattle has the second best pitching in the American league and plays pretty well at home. The Braves will face Pineda and Hernandez (and Bedard). They need to put this tough loss behind them.

Nice interview. I think people just realize that David Ross needs more AB’s. He’s a little hard on himself here, but he’s a really good hitter. The point is he’s the best RH bat on the bench and Fredi’s unable or unwilling to use him off the bench.

The solution, I think, is to drop Wilkin Ramirez and carry a third catcher leaving Ross able to PH. I wonder if that’s been discussed?

F Gonzalez is doing a fine job. He’s way more flexible with the lineup than Cox was, and his in-game strategy is way less frustrating than Cox’s. His main criticism is using Venters too often. Big whoop. I’d use him a lot too. The only time he brings Venters in a non save or non hold situation is when Venter’s already been warming up and the Braves tack on more runs.

Boy, if the braves ever figure out that tricky thing called scoring runs we will run away with this thing. As it stands we still have the wild card lead.

Bullpen’s fine, Jonny V did himself in more than the Padres did. Gotta be happy with the way Sherrill and Linebrink have improved as the season has gone on and eventually we should get reinforcements from some of the injured players returning. Huddy has bounced back after some rough starts. Heyward has been better since coming off the DL but the offense overall is still M.I.A. Still plenty of time to turn it around. Considering how we’ve hit and our numerous injuries we should be happy for the record we have.

Someone credited Hudson for a quality start. But with the bullpen overused, the staff ace needs to give the team at least 7 innings. Even JJ the last few starts has not been able to get into the 8th inning (or the 7th). We are not only getting a lot of close games because of no offense, but we are only getting 6 innings from the starters. Even if Venters were warming up last night when the score got to 5 -1 he should have been sat down and let Linebrink pitch the 8th.
