The Padres were due to break through, but they have hit maybe one ball hard in the 8th inning. It’s a different story if Venters retires Maybin on the swinging bunt or if Venters allows the Bartlet groundball to be fielded by Gonzo.

When your pitchers have to limit another team’s offense to 1 run or less most nights to cover up your team’s offensive ineptness sometimes you lose games this way.
