Michael Bourn is hitting .284 with 32 stolen bases.
His average is way too high & what would we do with all that speed ?
It doesn’t fit into our swing for the fences strategy that Bobby Cox instilled throughout the Braves organization.
Whatever DOB Im done with the bullsh1t. Im never commenting again.

On a scale from 1 to 10, how annoying is it listening to me on TV?
Don’t point the finger at me. I just hit the blog and leave. I’m not one to camp here all day and start chaos.

Now, who’s going to play The Beaver?
June 24th, 20111:28 pm
Honestly, Atlanta can win it all as it is. I would be awfully reluctant to make a major trade right now. I’d pursue Jose Reyes in the offseason.
Hard to believe Atlanta ran Matt Diaz out of town and that the Phillies didn’t pursue him more diligently. They ran Jayson Werth out (there’s another guy who, like Uggla, is having a down season… Look around baseball, folks. Averages are not good, and I partially, again, blame the downtrodden commissioner) and really could use a right-handed bat. Atlanta opted for Mather over Diaz, or rather they decided they would rather have Mather. Now we have neither. Canning Diaz wasn’t smart.
Atlanta has a good record and is improving. Schafer, Uggla, and Heyward should be huge factors in the second half.
June 24th, 20111:32 pm
Yeah, we have a good team as it stands now, trading for someone just isn’t garaunteed success
June 24th, 20111:33 pm
I agree, Ronald.
I was pissed when they made that move. I guess it was a money issue but Matt said he wanted to stay in Atlanta for the same salary and wouldn’t take them to arbitration. I guess Mather was the cheaper option, but like you said, look where we are now.
I wonder what it would take to get Matty back? Not much I would think.
June 24th, 20111:35 pm
It would be a big boost to the team getting him back I would think, as well. He was a big clubhouse guy and a fan favorite. He’s not a great player (though very very good) but he could potentially spark the offense.
June 24th, 20111:37 pm
riggleman had the nats over .500 for the first time. The nats are tight wad dumbasses worse than our tightwad dumbasses. As far as Mather goes he tried and didn’t have any success. He is probably tired of bus rides and $20 meal money. Good luck to all exbraves.
June 24th, 20111:40 pm
I wonder if anyone on the team called him Riggs. “Im gettin too old for this Riggs”

If Constanza is better than what the Braves now have playing but not on the 40 man roster, then the Braves have to move someone off to make room for him. The problem is the Braves could loose this player if he doesn’t make it through waivers. The upside is Constanza is the answer to CF on the opposite side is that he is another weak hitting outfielder when exposed to major league pitching.

June 24th, 20113:01 pm
Remember, Schafer is only hitting .231, but it’s an “effective” .231. He is the best .231 hitter in baseball!
i agree with ronald milsaps in the fact that nothing should be done now. it ain’t broke so don’t fix it. i also agree that the braves should go all out to sign jose reyes in the offseason. what a leadoff man he would make. can you imagine him leading off with shafer batting second followed by prada, mccann, freeman, uggla, heyward and whomever at third because i believe chipperwill retire after this season to become hitting coach
June 24th, 20113:02 pm
When Prado comes back who is it that goes back down, Lugo or Ramirez? Braves need right handed power bat. Ramirez has not shown power at major league level yet, but has potential.
Lugo’s value is to rest Gonzalez at ss..
If Mather was on 40 man roster and now is no longer on the teams roster, doesn’t that open up a slot for Constaza on 4o man roster?
June 24th, 20113:03 pm
So, a guy that clears waivers(meaning nobody wants him) declines AAA to become a free agent. Seems this idiot is as dumb as he is a bad hitter.
June 24th, 20113:14 pm
Rowsdower: Probably just means he knows there is another team ready to sign him, St. Louis perhaps, that will offer him better chance of getting back to and sticking in the major leagues than he thinks he has with the Braves. He has a history with the Cardinals, whereas he had none with the Braves.
DOB: Have you monitored this blog? If not you might want to see how out of control and racial it is.

My arms are huge, but my penis is small. I like to shake my bat, and stand real tall. I can’t hit sh!t, but that don’t matter. Keep on hatin’ while my pockets get fatter. Chipper is my boy, we are besties. Steroids made me big, but shrunk my testies. When I come to the plate all the girls scream and cheer, I suck at baseball and I’m a millionaire. eat it!

Still trying not to laugh at Thunder Dan’s rap……….
June 24th, 20113:57 pm
Jose Constanza is a career minor leager. Had a good year with Indians’ AAA last year. They didn’t promote him, they got rid of him. He’s pushing 28. I don’t think he’s the answer.
McLouth is so bad, he makes Schafer look good.
Should have kept Matt Diaz. Affordable corner OF with freak injury last year. Hit LHP very well.
Dan Uggla's Sister

That rap was mean, but I don’t care. Dan likes to sneak in my bedroom, and smell my underwear. He puts them on his head and wears them like a hat. If he ever stops working out, boy he’s gonna be fat. I wish he could hit or even make a play. I’m waiting for him to come out already, and admit he’s gay. 62 million d@mn that’s a lot, good thing I’m his siter cause I really like to shop. Ohh sorry guys I know I’m being a butt, maybe Dan will do better without that ugly ole’ haircut.

Losing Mather is pretty much a non-event. Hopefully for him, he does well somewhere else. Right now, our priorities are getting into the playoffs.

June 24th, 20115:10 pm
Why so much chatter about Mather moving on? He didn’t contribute much so no one should be sad to see him go. Wish him luck and be done with it.
June 24th, 20115:12 pm
Thats what they say when we’re together,
And watch how you play
June 24th, 20115:14 pm
C-ya Joey, been nice knowin ya! Thank goodness they sent him packing, he was’t a long term answer to anything. His career is marked by spotty numbers and injury, when they first announced they claimed him off waivers I couldn’t believe they took the time to stoop that low. He’s not a big league calibur type of player at all, having very limited success the past couple years and all. Good news though, atleast they won’t call him up at any point and send down someone we can really use everyday like Schafer. Schafer brings so much to the team now, we’re really lucky he healed up and was able to make so much progress this season. Keep Schafer up here for good, and stop dumpster diving to find marginal players who don’t make an impact because we’re better than that! If we have to add a bat for the end of the season playoff push, make it a good one!

June 24th, 20115:50 pm
Gee, I’m not sensing a lot of love here.
Unfortunately as part of the Pence/Bourne trade for McLouth, Kawakami, Lowe and Uggla the Braves also have to feed Carlos Lee until his contract expires in 2013. That could put us upside down.

Lets take four of five on this trip…we are gonna face King Felix ANd King Pin In Seattle!
June 24th, 20118:38 pm
First- Ronald Milsaps….Berkman isnt making “one tenth of Lowe’s salary” as you state, he is making 8 million this year (still a bargain), but it is about 55 percent of Lowe’s salary not one-tenth….Although Lowe is overpaid by about 6 or 7 million dollars….
Secondly- to whoever answered the question about who goes down Lugo or Ramirez when Prado goes back, the answer will probably be Ramirez, simply because we will already have our 2 back-up outfielders in McLouth and Hinske. I think the bench will be McLouth, Hinske, Conrad, Ross, and Lugo, because we will always need a backup to fill in for Gonzo at SS. And just think once Moylan and Medlen come back in Aug, this is my projected roster from Aug, until the World Series (very likely, as a student of the game-the Braves our World Series caliber)….
1. Schaefer -CF
2. Heyward -RF
3. Jones -3B
7. Uggla -2B
10. Hinske-LF,RF, 1B
12. Conrad- 3B, 2B
13. Lugo-SS, 2B, 3B
NOW THATS A DOMINANT ROSTER, RIGHT?
Mark's for the Braves
June 24th, 20118:57 pm
Will not miss Mather. Could play a lot of positions, but was very overrated as a hitter.
June 24th, 201111:12 pm
well i guess i made another mistake with mather– was hoping we could send him back to richmond he hit about 250 again and i could justify bringing him back up since 250 is better than mclouth or heyward– but never fear im looking into some more garbage heap players– jermaine dye and dontrelle willis- but the upside on willis even if he cant pitch naymore he can hit better than outr current outfielders without prado and second baseman
Leave it to Beaver
June 25th, 20111:05 pm
hey Wally, Mather is coming back as a free agent….Oh ok Beaver…..LOL
June 25th, 20111:52 pm
We don’t need Bourn or Pence. Pence is a slightly faster version of Jeff Francouer. Do not be fooled by his average right now, as he always runs hot and cold. If you think Uggla looks bad right now wait until yousee Pence in one of his cold spells.
Bourn is very good offensively, but he can’t touch Schafer defensively. He makes routine plays look hard because his instincts are very poor and he gets bad jumps. He also has an arm that make Ron Gant look like Dwight Evans. Four hoppers to second base from the warning track are NOT impressive.
In reality, the Braves OF is not doing badly at all. Heyward getting hurt did not help. Schafer is doing EXACTLY what the Braves want and need. Solid defense with an arm that otehr teams respect. He gets on base at a .300 clip, which is not great, but let me remind you that in Bourn’s first full year in the majors his OBP was .288. In other words, at this point in his career Schafer could be considered to be ahead of Bourn. Bourn will be arb eligible in 2012 and is already making $4.4 millions, so expect 6+. He is a free agent in 2013. In other words, we can’t really afford him and sign all of our young pitchers. For my money Schafer is a better option. Let’s give him AB’s and see what happens. He does need to work more on bunting though.
The one player I would love to see us investigate is Jose Reyes. Unfortunately, we probably can sign him after this season and I don’t want a rental. But we might be able to convince him to come here. My guess is the Yankees will gobble him up in free agency though .. even with Jeter being overpaid.
June 25th, 20112:04 pm
It’s easy for those of you to knock Joe when he’s hurt (hand), but where is your opinions on McLouth? He always has an excuse!!!!!!!!!!! Where is the player that once got on the field for Pittsburgh? GOOD LUCK JOE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
June 25th, 20117:00 pm
Can’t blame Mather at all – I would want to get away from this LOSER of an offensive team as fast as I could. LIttle league hitters could out hit this sorry team! And Uggla is the worst!
