The older gentleman sitting behind home plate (just above the Petco sign) looks quite a bit like Joe Biden, especially when he’s facing the camera and you can’t see the back of his hair. He has the same shiny forehead.

but if you ain’t a doctor or have actually suffered from staph infections that are opened up and allowed to heal from the bottom up, I’m not sure why you think you have any real insight into the situation??

stauffer thru 5 innings and scoreless. brilliant.. not one single hit since the first inning and throw 6 strikeouts in there as well. wow thier approach is soo bad from game to game.. Get a player who consistently makes contact and a reall hitting coach.

I have actually had a staph infection, but I was not an pro athlete. I had one that infected my left foot, I could not walk on that foot fot a month and a half. They had to cut open maybe an inch of my heel. It was pretty painful.

I have another prediction, for the road trip:
Braves drop two of three in San Diego, lose game one in Seattle but bounce back with wins in their final two games against the Mariners for an impressive 3-3 West Coast jaunt.
And surely in their post-game comments following the final game they’ll pat themselves on the back for finishing on a good note and talk about how they know they can play better.
Because that’s what they do.
But hey, if they come tonight and go 6-0 I’ll gladly eat my words. But something tells me I won’t have to.

tmc and nolee, MRSA can be partucularly virulent and occassionally requires that the wound be repeatedly debrided to remove devitalized tissue..This infection can literally “explode ” in a matter of hours. There are many antibiotics available ,but on occasion they are not paricularly effective and can take several days to stabalize the situation, much less to rid the tissue of bacteria… There is a report in SI several years ago that discusses this in laymens terms. May want to goog
le this. If I remember correctly, I believe the article discusses a california football player who almost died from a leg mrsa infection and missed the entire season!.

Alex – wheras MRSA typically is more virulent than OSSA, it still is usually confined to a skin infection. Unfortunately it is more likely to abscess which will require I&D. Due to the infection, once the incision is made it has to heal by secondary intention (inside out) instead of sewing it up. This greatly increases the time out of action due to the time required to heal..
It has spread through locker rooms from high schools to pro sports. Luckily this seems confined to Prado. It went through the St. Louis Rams locker room years ago and ended Mike Martz’s head coaching career their when he got MRSA endocarditis (infection on a heart valve).

Yeah, but they’re getting out-played. The Padres know they can’t hit home runs so they don’t try. They get on base and make things happen because that’s all they can do. That’s why they don’t win a lot of games.

i was hoping mather would go back to triple a hit about 250 again so i could justify bringing him back up– because that would be better than our present outfield without prado– oh well mather is still a great player i am so surprised no one else wanted him— i never make any mistakes— as far as constanza or gomez they are hitting two well- in would mess up team chemistry— to bring them up—- i rather give up our farm for bourn or pence–

C’mon man. Skip asked where i got the information…
i understand staph can be trouble (see my initial comment). I know people have died from it and worst case scenario’s can be bad. But hey, i would bet my last dollar that Martin is getting the best medical procedure’s and care possible.
So why does it take a 27 year old professional athlete in good or great shape 2 or 3 times longer than what the typical recovery?
I just wish the Braves would be honest with it’s fans in situations with injuries to players. that’s all.
