I don’t what Cox saw when he said Hicks was a great defensive shortstop, but in from what has been shown on tv, during regular season/spring training he hasn’t been. Makes a lot of bad throws

id trade mclouth and pay part of his salary just to have a prado, schafer, heyward outfield. its gunna happen next year why wait?
or id, dont cry, but id trade JJ and schafer to boston for jacoby ellsbury. jj will be arbitration eligible and will likely get a nice raise and hes a scott boras client so could prove to be pretty pricey.

Lets be honest here now, JS is our future CF he has been before he broke something in his hand. I understand that McLouth is owed 3 more million this year but in all honesty isn’t it suppose to be the best player playing? This is Daddy’s ball anymore. I thought the point was to win ballgames and the Braves have a better chance at winning with Schafer leading off. McLouth has never and will never be a leadoff hitter. Wasn’t he the Bucs cleanup hitter? Have we ever thought the transition from cleanup to leadoff would be a little difficult? Could yal imagine Brian McCann, ARod, Ryan Howard, Albert Pujols hitting leadoff? Not saying McLouth was anywhere near these players mentioned caliber but cleanup is a lot different working on setting the table!

Tommy Hanson is a some what good ball thrower . He will never be as good as greg was tho ..Tommy Hanson has a huge red beard also ..um what for? its 99 F in atlanta ? beards are for winter But he could be a good player as he matures and grows with age…30s plus …:)

I agree with your last quote. I go to a lot of the Braves spring training activities and have had many dicussions with JJ we have gotten to know eachother quite a bit the past 2 years and inbetween fields we were talking and he was like man look at all these young pitchers in the Braves organization. JJ is pitching his way out of Atlanta right now, we won’t be able to afford him. I don’t like the idea of trading him now for the future, but I’m going to hate to see him go for nothing even though we did get him for Edgar Renteria lol.

He has one, arguably two, near no hitters in the last month, the most playoff experience of our staff, and if we got Andruw Jones in return, I’d say Wren needed to have his head examined.
Guys, pitching wins titles. You remove Derek, and someone else gets hurt (Hudson), and suddenly we have JJ, Hanson, and… Beachy, Minor, Teheran?

T-for Texas @ 8:10–As someone posted earlier, Schafer’s numbers overall are not great, but his numbers leading off the game (3 for 3 with a BB this series) and leading off an inning are outstanding. That is clutch lead off hitting.
I agree and dug further. Over the past 10 games, (including the first inning tonight) he has led off an inning 18 times. In this lead off position, he has batted .375 (6 for 16). His OBP is .444 (8-18). Plus he reached base one additional time as the result of a throwing error.
And he has six steals.
A small sample, but certainly an optimistic one.

Schafer’s defense is incredible. A Blogger made the point earlier that he was indeed supposed to be our CF for the future until he hurt his wrist. That being said, I believe Wren is behind the scenes planning some type of move for Nate. He just doesn’t bring what Jordan does to the table and save that one game out in San Francisco, he’s been a complete non factor.

I agree with above posters, this lineup is garbage.. If you are gonna rest A Gon, please play Diory.. Come on, B Hicks should be in AA, guy cant even throw to first. Also, can we please get freakin David Ross and or Hinske in the lineup?!?!?! Thats all those guys do is hit. I dont care what you have to do, put McCann at first and Ross behind the plate and Hinske in the outfield, put Ross at first, put Hinske at first, obviously Freeman is struggling.. Its frustrating to see better hitting options rotting away on the bench while AA guys such as young and hicks, as well as a AAA Mather and a struggling dude named Freeman continue to get starts. Oh and we are going against a lefty so we coulda sat some of these lefties above mentioned today.. Sigh.. I just wish we had a better manager

Interesting Jose Constanza is in LF tonight. He is listed as the CF. I couldn’t find stats to show how much LF he has played. Maybe the Braves are getting him familiar with other positions just in case he gets called up?
