finally someone see what i’m talking about. You gotta remember we Traded Mark Texiera to the Angels for a non hitting Casey Kotchman who started the year in AAA for the Rays and Stephen Marek who has yet to play in Atlanta. Were talking about one of the best 1st baseman in baseball. Thats all we got… There’s no way Reyes has more value.

Can’t resist..first basemen are a dime a dozen..good shortstops ( strength up the middle) are not. Comparing Reyes to Texiera is silly. It’s not that Reyes has more value anyway..it is that Texiera has NO value to the Braves right now. And the Braves could use some attitude and some speed.

VA I do have to point out a big difference in Tex and Reyes. If the Mets dont sign Reyes they WILL off him arbitration giving them two picks if he turns it down. If we didnt trade Tex, there was alot of speculation that the Braves would not offer arbitration. Afraid we would get stuck with a huge one year deal we couldnt afford. I agree that Reyes asking price will not be as high as some think but it is a different scenario.

The Texas Rangers lineup is a joke. Everyone is slugging over .400 and everyone but 2 are slugging over .450. Must be their ballpark.

VA yes I agree, often teams devalue those compensation picks. Hopefully the rays way of doing it starts to rub off on ATL and they dont feel pressured to take the best deal available.
Mudge, I think you can compare Tex and Reyes, your point about different positions is a good one, but Tex is/was a top 3 1b and so is Reyes (when healthy). I do think a Reyes type player is needed but couldnt disagree more that Tex has no value to ATL. Maybe I am misinterpreting that but if you mean because we have FF then you are just wrong.

Thanks, McFann. And it follows a rough day at work in a hot office. Tonight would not be a good time to make me mad, so hubby’s letting me watch baseball down here since the upstairs is hotter than down here. We may just drag the mattress off the guest bed and lay it on top of the air mattress in the basement and sleep down there tonight. That’s why they put alarms on cell phones.

It looked like Minor was going to have a good quick and clean inning, but he lost his concentration and then moments later it is back to the same script the Braves have been playing with in 2011. Trail early and squander opportunities at the plate.

AtlYnkHtr: Texiera HAD value, he has no value now. About Texiera, do you take him or Pujols, Howard, or Fielder? Give me a shortstop, maybe Tulowitski, you’d take over Reyes? If the Braves really felt they could make the postseason with a rental of Reyes, do they give up some value, or say..wait’ll next year…or the year after..this management waits. And waits.

I hate outs made on 3-0 counts. They are such a gift to an opposing pitcher. Nobody in this lineup needs to be swining 3-0. This team needs to take as many pitches as possible and work the pitcher.

Late May reminds me of April 2010. I would usually tune into the game in the second inning to find that the Braves had gone 1-2-3 in the top of the inning and the opponent had scored a run (or more).
I can’t wait for the offense to get it going and rack up some victories in the early innings.

Mudge, oh definitely you go after Reyes and deal from a position of strength. They have 8/9 mlb level pitchers it makes no sense to keep all those guys while you have offensive holes and avg or below avg hitters at 5 of the spots in the lineup.
I would take Tex over Fielder, his body type makes his numbers not sustainable. Howard its close just bc Tex is older. I would take Tex over Howard for 3 or 4 years but prolly not after that. So Tex had value but does not now. Why not? I would take Hanley over Reyes.
