Marteeen’s not going to play 2nd this year according to Fredi. Uggla sits, it would be Conrad at 2nd.

Uggla has become the biggest head case at the plate since … (McLouth 2010? Jeff Francouer? Fill in the blank?) He has completely lost his recognition of pitches and the strike zone.

Read the piece on CAC regarding Uggla’s increased swing rate at balls out of the zone.

I still would not expect much from Medlen this season. As Hudson showed it will take time to regain the touch on the change up and other off speed pitches. As good as Medlen’s change up was before the injury, I would not expect that pitch back until next year

Prado is one of those players who is more valuable than the common stats show. His on-base percentage is pretty low because he doesn’t walk much. He doesn’t have exceptional speed or power. But other than McCann, who would you rather have walking up to the plate with the game on the line?

Why the Phillies have a better record than the Braves:

1. The Phillies just had 5 consecutive hits: 2 HRs, 1 double, and 2 singles…followed by a successful sac bunt.

2. The Braves have a c-c-c-combo breaker in Dan Uggla in the 5-hole.

That 2nd at bat from Dan Uggla was just awful…how can he be so lost at the plate right now…every time it’s 0-2 and it results in a strikeout or some weak ground ball or pop up…

DOB, awesome blog on Prado he definitely is one of my favorite Braves…I hope the team signs him to a long term deal, we’ve seen enough to know now it’s not a one or two year thing with him…he’ll be a good player for a long time to come!

I do not tend to be a glass half full guy but in this case I feel if IF Uggla comes around we will be in such good shape because we are maintaining with him in the dumper. You have to believe that no matter when he awakes we can use his normal performance for one or two months. Keep winning and wait for the UG to start hitting. I can not think of anyone with his history forgetting how to play over the winter. He will hit. Go Nationals we need FLa and Philly to lose a few straight

Someone asked earlier if it is statistically possible for a “good” Major League player to experience this kind of 200 AB stretch? I don;t know the answer but it’s a great question. If there has never been a Major League player who was considered to be very good who has gone 36 for 210 over a stretch then I would think something is going on.

VaBravesFan

Seems like we think Uggla is getting ready to come around after hitting some hard hit balls, and then comes out here and looks at a straight fastball over the outside of the plate for strike 3 and swinging threw a slider up and over the middle of the plate for strike 3, basically misses a mistake.

I’m sure there has been plenty of long slumps like this before. Only difference in this case it happens to be our Big Offseason Addition that we dished out 65 million too, that is expected to be a big masher in the middle of the order.
