Freddie !!!!!!!!!! ….he go BOOM !! …
i like …
Gotta love regression toward the mean when it is in the Braves favor, but tomorrow when we revert to our average of about 2-3 runs a game we will likely hate it again. Hahaha, but let us live up for the night.
May 28th, 20118:18 pm
This just in: Arroyo having a very bad month. He was 0-3 with a 6.90 ERA in 5 May starts before tonight.
That’s a ridiculous 10 homers allowed by Arroyo in 25-1/3 innings this month. He’s a salve for the Braves, for at least one night
May 28th, 20118:19 pm
So, let’s see. Everyone’s gotten on base except…
May 28th, 20118:21 pm
Braves is what Leake needed, maybe Arroyo is what Braves needed
Drives me nuts that I can’t watch this game because of the blackout. The numbers look good, though. Lowe’s line looks a bit odd, though.
May 28th, 20118:22 pm
Uh, he was great until he broke his wrist.
Even before he broke it, dude admitted to having a larger swing. It’s still evidenced now by the way that front foot steps out.
As usual, Lowe looks like he’s on pace to throw 165 pitches.
May 28th, 20118:23 pm
Huddy is awesome on the mike !!!!!!!!!!!!
May 28th, 20118:24 pm
Lowe literally has nothing tonight. I sure hope he can minimize the potential damage that his lack of command could cause.
Hopefully it’s not just for tonight and the offense goes on a tear and stays consistent.
May 28th, 20118:25 pm
It’s interesting listening to Don talk about pitching.
May 28th, 20118:27 pm
I have always found that to be so MiBF. Guy knows his stuff pretty good
JC from DR! (You gotta tip your cap to ____)
This is going to be a great inning by Lowe. His best one yet.
Damn, Lowe loves to make it hard on himself.
May 28th, 20118:28 pm
Damn, Lowe has thrown more pitches than Bronson thus far, but Lowe is pitching better, too.
might be a good thing that we got a couple more
May 28th, 20118:29 pm
noleee – he certainly does! He’s also interesting explaining what he knows. I don’t know if the two things always go together.
what’s the record of a starter loading bases in a game? and getting out of bases loaded jams?
May 28th, 20118:30 pm
Has there ever been a game where every member of the starting lineup has had at least 2 hits? The sad thing is there is undoubtedly a yankees fan on some blog wondering how to acquire Arroyo?
The Reds are a great offensive team….but we have to find a way to win this thing.
May 28th, 20118:31 pm
Good job Lowe… Start the daily parade of Braves relievers.
May 28th, 20118:33 pm
We just don’t like anything easy.
How long can Lowe keep playing with fire without getting burned?
Well, there’s the answer to that question.
May 28th, 20118:34 pm
Oh I see, it is one of those games.
I guess he can’t pitch unless he’s drinking and driving.
Count that BURNED!!!
May 28th, 20118:35 pm
I see from your name and comments that you are slipping back to the dark side JC
Lowe the inflater
Arroyo made it through 3 innings. Can Lowe make it through 4?
Thanks a lot Lowe…you just blew the real game and my fantasy league game…
May 28th, 20118:36 pm
Thanks freddie Gonzalez Hello Lowe sucks and a 5-0 lead has evaporated. Martinez should of been in the game well before wow.. tie game Bravo Freddie Gonzalez.. thats why freddie YOU suck AS A MANAGER.
How many starts now has Lowe been bad? said last outing he had noncompetitive stuff. What will he call it tonight?
The Phillies missed the memo about the Reds being a good offensive team.
You have to figure that the Braves are finished scoring. What a sad and strange game.
Awesome inning. His best one yet. I called it.
Linebrink For Cy
oh Lowe, you had a 5 run lead and somehow you still found a way to blow the start.
May 28th, 20118:37 pm
So, neither pitcher makes it through the top of the 4th.
Bad, but hilarious decoy by Gonzo.
Comical, really. Not much you can do but laugh. Team is destined to stink.
Good for you, JC. You should be so proud of yourself.
May 28th, 20118:38 pm
Get him off your hands while you can Wren.
Well, that lead was short-lived.
Derek Lowe hits…….the showers
That was The worst management I have ever seen. Hello you get Lowe out of the Game when he puts runners on 1st and 2nd .. yet Lowe just gives the lead right back and now its a tie game.. Bravo to you Freddie and then to Lowe who was just down right awful..
And the real d-lowe starting to show back up. ERA back above 4 where you would expect it to be.
I guess you can see why i don’t care much for Lowe….painfully average…tonight, painfully awful…
May 28th, 20118:39 pm
Why should we think the Braves are done scoring?
you gotta think the Braves would revisit their thinking of not trading Lowe if the offers were good enough.
Wow…what is it with this team. We FINALLY get some offense. And Lowe blows it up. And Fredi leaves him out there to do so. How much you wanna bet the offense goes back to sleep now. they start pressing and they make Cincy’s bullpen look unbeatable.
What is it with the crappy outing by Hanson, Hudson, and Lowe.
It really feels like this team has no hope.
Why wasn’t Martinez in after the Cairo hit?
haha what a joke.
DOB, please sack up and ask Freddi why he let Lowe face Votto. Awful managing. Bobby would have yanked him in a hurry. At least intentionally walk him. Don’t be a ‘yes man.’ Ask a hard question, please.
Lowe is foing a good job of making sure he won’t be traded
I hate to sound like the pessimists, but, now that Arroyo’s out, can the Braves score any more?
May 28th, 20118:40 pm
I know the Reds offense is awesome, but I was really hoping for a game where the Braves could cruise to a win without much problem. I was wrong to think that. What is wrong with Lowe, that is consecutive outings where he has no command at all? Probably some of that dang regression toward the mean because he was never going to be a 3/1 strikeout to walk pitcher.
How do you let a starter who has already struggled in the previous 3 innings with base runners everywhere stay out there after he gives up a bases-clearing double to give up the lead?
Oy. Just plain awful by Lowe. Not unexpected, but awful just the same. This team couldn’t have an easy game. They hit, they don’t ptich. They pitch, they don’t hit. They hit, and pitch, but can’t play D. Same. Ol. Story.
And the never ending out of sync blog posts continue . . . .
Tommy only gave up 2 ER last night. The position players didn’t hold up their end of the bargain.
And Timmy apparently wasn’t close to 100% in his last start, hence the treatment and extended rest he’s getting.
May 28th, 20118:41 pm
“Derek Lowe hits…….the showers”
I guess that’s better than hitting the bottle.
I’m agreeing with Ray K. I don’t think your pitching can be brilliant every start. And I’m not really blaming fredi.I think this just happened faster than anyone could have imagined. Sometimes you just get blindsides.
May 28th, 20118:42 pm
No attorney to help Lowe here…
What does it matter if DOB asks that question? (Which he has done, many times) Fredi isn’t going to give the answer you want…
Why are my comments being posted at about ten minutes before I actually post them and above other comments that were posted before mine?
Guys, I think your anger is misguided. This is going to happen to pitchers from time to time. The offense should have been manhandling all those mediocre pitchers over the past couple weeks but instead sat back like lambs and made the pitchers work their tails off to keep games close. I posted about this earlier: as soon as the offense wakes up and realizes they have to score runs to win, our pitchers will come back to earth.
THIS TEAM NEVER HAS IT ALL TOGETHER AT THE SAME TIME. Same garbage every year–they manage to tie one shoe and then the other comes undone.
May 28th, 20118:43 pm
After teeting off on Arroyo, Braves are back to square one (5-5 game) and facing lefty Jeremy Horst in his major league debut
And of course, since the Braves typically score nil in the first 5 innings and then come to life in the last couple, they’ll now fade out and score nothing in the later innings.
This is our team. The Atlanta Pendulums.
these losers are a waste of time.
The bigger question: Do we get another hit tonight?
Uh-Oh…Braves facing a guy they have never faced?
Chris from the Rock
May 28th, 20118:44 pm
You can tell Brennaman is a Reds announcer, with all of the background info on Reds players he provides.
McFann :Ô: :Ô:
OK, so we get in the car, it’s 5-0, and DLowe promptly ties it up. They hate us, I tell you!
I bet BMac doesn’t get anymore hits tonight, either.
May 28th, 20118:45 pm
Bobby would have yanked him in a hurry. At least intentionally walk him
Really? Lowe would still be pitching if this was Bobby.
Remember that game against the Mets a couple years ago where Lowe faced like, 12 batters in an inning?
Andrew, Fredi isn’t Bobby. They are two different people, and how do you know Bobby would have taken Lowe out of the game? Bobby let Lowe stay in against the Mets when they scored eight runs.
So apparently this is all McFann’s fault…
I hope the offense hasn’t called it a night.
Lowe: 3-1/3 inn, 5 runs, 7 hits, 5 walks, 2 K. Threw 84 pitches (44 strikes)
Oh boy. Here we go again. We used our weekly 5 runs quota in a game. No more runs until tomorrow folks. Of course, I will gladly eat my own words if the Braves prove me wrong.
The bottle will be hit shortly…he’s just not very good anymore…
May 28th, 20118:47 pm
New game….hopefully the offense gets us back in this,
this is a very good example of “deflating”. Team has trouble scoring runs, then they’re able to break through and score 5 over 3 innings … and then in just 1 inning your starter gives up the same run total.
Lowe failed in a big way tonight.
As much as I would love to agree with the bashing of Fredi Gonzalez with his reluctance to remove Lowe from the game, but I respectfully disagree. Sure he had no command at all, but as a manager he needed to just be confident he could keep the damage to a minimum and atleast pitch 5 innings. That obviously failed to happen, but a manager never wants to take a pitcher with a lead out in the 4th inning. Furthermore, this reminds me of that game in late ‘09 where Lowe had a sizable lead against the Mets at Citi Field and Cox left him in give up the lead relatively early in the game and it became a blowout in favor of the Mets.
This place is so jovial when we’re not winning
I love the blog time warp.
May 28th, 20118:48 pm
I couldn’t hate Derek Lowe any more than I do. This guy sucks. People complain about money the Braves supposedly waste, well Lowe should be on the top of that list. The offense finally comes through with some early runs, and this loser gives them all right back. Atta boy Derek, earn that money.
Now heres a rookie making his big league debut and will Get the win.Thats what this team does.when a rookie is pitching he owns and dominates them. I am guaranteeing it.. This offense will not score anymore. Cincy wins this game..
Also, here comes the part where the offense begins to slumber and goes away until about the 8th inning.
I guess most now think we will lose this game, so think what a pleasant surprise it will be if they win….
