I’m just happy I’ll get to see it. Still bitter at FOX f’ing up yesterday. I think VJ will get to watch most of it- he works until…6? I think. He missed most of yesterday’s game- I had to send him texts- but was home at the end (which FOX still refused to show, even after the Angels game ended…) and he’ll miss most or all of tomorrow’s as well, so hopefully tonight will be a good one for our Braves

May 29th, 20111:35 pm
Anybody know if Todd Redmond can be traded for some value. It seems he has no future in the Braves staff and he is doing well in AAA.

Watched the last several innings of the Yanks-Mariners game yesterday and when Andruw came to bat the Seattle announcers went on and on about his HOF bona fides. Though they didn’t actually mention the Hall for Andruw, they were throwing out some amazing stats that many of us know so well. Over 400 homers, 10 gold gloves, on and on, talking, too, about the company that he keeps in those achievements–Clemente, Mays…
Now I’m not saying Andruw is Hall material, but geez, the way those guys were gushing about his career sure did make me think again.
I think Andruw is one of those guys, like those announcers were talking about, that, if you take his numbers as straight career numbers- without breaking them down into early career (where he looked to be a lock of the Hall) and later career (where he’s had trouble just getting playing time)- he easily could be considered for the HOF. His overall numbers, I think, are much better than a lot of people realize. Don’t know if he will ever get in, but I don’t think it would cause a big stir if he eventually does.
McFann :Ô: :Ô:
May 29th, 20112:02 pm
That was an excellent game last night!! I had a hunch the Reds would help to wake up BMac’s bat, and they have!!!
McCann now has 6 hits in his last 8 at-bats. Before Friday, he had 7 hits in his past 30 at-bats.
May 29th, 20112:04 pm
Sorry for prattling on about ol’ Andruw, but does an outfielder whose hitting stats are on the HOF margins, but who was doubtless the best defensive center fielder in the game for a 10 year span, get consideration for the Hall?
Jim, you’re correct — Hudson has NOT been on the DL. Just missed a start.
Braves could elect to go a position player short for a few days, if they want to, in order to add Gearin tonight and bring up another position player after Minor’s start Tuesday in place of Minor.
May 29th, 20112:07 pm
I think you’re on the money, Cabravesfan. You think there’s more of a case for Andruw than Murph?
Gearrin has been recalled from Gwinnett, will be suited up for tonight’s game vs. Reds
May 29th, 20112:08 pm
To be honest, I am not very familiar with Murph’s numbers so I can’t really give a good answer…
May 29th, 20112:11 pm
And Wilkin has been sent down?
May 29th, 20112:14 pm
Only way Andruw gets into the Hall is if he gets to 500 homers.
Tomas–I hear what you’re saying, but I’m not sure adds more to his resume other than the longevity that it would take to reach that total. He’s 34 and he might do it. Then again, that 500 is kind of a magic number.
May 29th, 20112:17 pm
I think AJ makes the Hall. Five years after he retires, and then maybe a couple more years to get in… his early decline will be much less memorable than his accomplishments.
According to BR.com, his 59.7 career WAR puts him 109th all-time, and ahead of some pretty big HOF names like Richie Ashburn (who was also a CF, btw), Willie Stargell, Billy Williams, Hank Greenberg, etc.
I know some here don’t care about that kind of stat, but “in the future” (2017 or later before AJ is eligible) I bet more and more HOF voters will take a look at that kind of thing in making their decisions. It’ll work to his favor.
May 29th, 20112:18 pm
Woody Woodward, you also have to consider the possibility of steroids, his career seem to go down after 2005 and his 52 homerun season
May 29th, 20112:19 pm
Roman Gal, Andruw has 411 right now
May 29th, 20112:20 pm
I don’t know about that. I bet that if he gets to 400 he’ll get in, but that it’ll take a few years on the ballot for that to happen. If he gets to 500 he’s a lock and a potential first-balloter.
May 29th, 20112:22 pm
RG–He’s at 411 right now.
May 29th, 20112:24 pm
Ah, well…I think he’ll get in then. I’ll assume he plays for at least 3 or 4 more years, too, which is plenty of time to reach 450.
The voters would be hardpressed to keep him out.
May 29th, 20112:25 pm
On a side note, how did I miss him hitting his 400th?
May 29th, 20112:26 pm
You might be right, RG. But that .240 lifetime BA is pretty puny. I’m thinking those ten gold gloves will work for him as much as anything.
May 29th, 20112:27 pm
don’t feel bad, RG. I was a little surprised myself when I looked him up yesterday. I would have guessed 390 or so.
May 29th, 20112:28 pm
Roman Gal, I think it was a grand slam with the whitesox
May 29th, 20112:29 pm
It would help if he had a Ring, but I think he has enough other accolades to make the cut.
Then again, I’m pretty biased.
May 29th, 20112:30 pm
Well, WW, I’m glad someone’s got the 4-1-1 on Druw.
McCann is 2-for-6 with 2 HRs off tonight’s Reds starter Johnny Cueto

May 29th, 20112:36 pm
It makes me sad to see him in another uniform.
May 29th, 20112:43 pm
The most impressive I’ve seen Andruw since leaving the Braves is a 3 homer game with Texas.

May 29th, 20112:54 pm
Sweet! But that’s a toughy—’cause he’s 8-17 with 2 homers, 3 Doubles, and 5 RBI against tomorrow’s starter, Aaron Harang, including 1-3 with a homer this year…
I was sort of thinking, since JJ’s starting tonight anyway, that maybe BMac could get tonight off and and catch for Timmy tomorrow afternoon…and the game did go into extras last night…
But, it’s not a huge issue either way, I guess…JJ does good with BMac catching, of course. Will be interesting to see what the lineup is tonight.
May 29th, 20112:57 pm
Yeah, BMac’s always been great against the Reds, with the exception of 2009. ALWAYS love it when it’s time to play the Reds!!
May 29th, 20112:58 pm
Has anyone read the book the time of Bobby cox?
May 29th, 20113:02 pm
Mets up 9-1.. Need to win tonight.. don’t like falling more than 4 back
May 29th, 20113:04 pm
Of all the baseball writers etc,, where do you think the Braves fall in the media realm among teamss? The Braves always seem to be in discussion on national radio ,etc. It’s cool to have Olney in town(who I deeply respect) and of course baseball tonight. I wish I could be there tonight.
May 29th, 20113:10 pm
Did anyone see the finish at Indy? Man, I pity that rookie.
May 29th, 20113:12 pm
Nolee, How in the Hell do I know your gender? I’m being respectful to whatever you are.You may be a hermafrodite(sp?) for all I know. You may be Cher’s son who does not want to post as Chastity, although that too would probably be a good description of your life style.
Let’s get a quick response in. I’ll be watching the Marlins’ pre-game.
May 29th, 20113:13 pm
Sleepless nights for the rest of his life when he thinks of this finish.
May 29th, 20113:14 pm
Braves lineup: 1. Schafer CF, 2. Prado LF, 3. Jones 3B, 4. Hinske RF, 5. Freeman 1B, 6. Uggla 2B, 7. Gonzalez SS, 8. Ross C, 9. Jurrjens
May 29th, 20113:15 pm
I saw that! Poor kid…still almost won the thing on 3 wheels
May 29th, 20113:21 pm
Wow Mcann kills the Reds and no start? interesting.. ESPN has bene pumping all day how great Mcann is and he aint even playing
I thought since it was a night game he may get the start. oh well
May 29th, 20113:22 pm
I do not think Andrew has any chance at all of getting into the HOF. his last 5 years have been historically bad for an OFer. I will be amazed if he gets in.
Marietta’s own Corey Patterson tearing it up lately. 5 knocks last night and 4 more already today. Over .300 avg.
nolee I agree, the writers will only remember his last few years, and he fell off a cliff.
May 29th, 20113:23 pm
Time To Get Cleaned up for a Cookout Party! brb
Yeah, but tomorrow’s a day game so he was going to get one of these off- and since JJ is pitching it makes sense to rest him tonight, seeing as how Fredi likes Rossy working with JJ
Whoa! Terrible version of God Bless America at Citi Bank Field. Worst I have ever heard. Poor little American Idol wannabe girl.
May 29th, 20113:24 pm
Nationally televised game. I wonder if Mccann tried to fight the bench tonight or just accepted it.
May 29th, 20113:25 pm
Glad that Huddy is ready for his next start, but I was a little distressed to see him out there jumping into the celebration pile. Seemed like a perfect recipe for throwing out your back. The last thing this team needs is something silly like a celebration injury. Just ask Kendry Morales…
May 29th, 20113:26 pm
I guess i’m disappointed because this is a nationally televised game, and I don’t think Brian gets anywhere near the pub around the league as he should get.
May 29th, 20113:27 pm
How is McCann not in the line up tonight?? Makes absolutely no sense, considering he’s the only guy going really good right now, and he has success against Cueto. Give him the day off tomorrow. Fredi Gonzalez continues to baffle me with some of his decisions.
May 29th, 20113:29 pm
McCann needed either today or tomorrow. He kills both pitchers, but today’s pitcher is JJ and an extra inning game last night, good decision.
Ross is no walk in the park don’t worry.
May 29th, 20113:31 pm
Anyword on what the Giants are doing regarding replacing Posey? I heard thoughts of bringing back Molina and inquiries regarding Pudge. I think Ross is a great asset but how often can he contribute. If you can get some ROI, why not?
May 29th, 20113:34 pm
noleee: I agree on Andruw. I don’t think he will garner enough votes to stay on the ballot. I loved the guy but he never seemed to love the game or take it completely seriously. Just way to much natural talent and when the time came that he was going to have to work to keep up he fell off the cliff.
If he loved the game Mays did and played with that kind of passion. He would have exceeded Mays as the greatest center fielder to ever play the game. He really was that good!
It kills me to see him in a Yankee uni!
Doc "Mather" Holiday
May 29th, 20113:37 pm
Once Nate is ready to comeback, I think Braves should stick with Jordan, Maybe send Diory back to AAA and keep MArtin as 2B/SS…………Uggla needs to play less games. Let Schafer play LF and Martin at 2B. I know must will say Uggla needs more ABs, but I dont agree………if he needs ABs, let him do batting pratice 3 hours before and after games………..too many outs……….I dont agree that we have to wait for him. Thats not fair for the rest of the players.
May 29th, 20113:38 pm
Or maybe send Brooks down, keep diory, we have martin, mather and eric………they all play IF.
May 29th, 20113:39 pm
Not going to see anybody at 2B but Uggla. That’s a fact.
Frankie Wren about 40-50 games a year to give McCann days off and keep him fresh so he can hit. Plus he definitely is one of the best clubhouse guys in the team.
No way they trade him, and Giants aren’t gonna trade a top prospect for him, they’d rather go with Eli Whiteside.
May 29th, 20113:40 pm
Once again, Fredi has made it clear the only way Marteen is playing 2nd base this year is if every other option is hurt.
May 29th, 20113:41 pm
162 game schedule, I’m sure 99% of the team wants to see Uggla at 2nd probably including Martin, Diory and Conrad. The guy is a professional ball player and a pretty good one.
May 29th, 20113:42 pm
We need to play the hot hand, I dont agree on playing everyday guys that are hitting under .240
JH…………I would give more AB to Mather if he doesnt warm up quick after coming back
Uggla………..Id play martin at 2B and Eric/Jordan in LF
Nate………..Play Jordan in CF
Freeman…………I like him……….his glove is way too valuable, no matter what he is hitting.
May 29th, 20113:43 pm
Is not that Im not supporting or punishing guys like Uggla………….I like Uggla a lot………….but exposing him so much as bad as he is looking, is even bad for him.
Id stay with Uggla if he was arounf .240, but man…………. .180??????????? We are not doing him any favor overexposing him.
Maybe he can come off the bench, have some key hits and thats all he needs…………..
All they are doing is growing that frustration bigger each day.
Giants will go with Whiteside for awhile. If they keep sliding like they are right now and this guy does nothing at the plate, they will make a move.
May 29th, 20113:45 pm
No way Andruw comes vaguely close to the HOF. Great fielder, but the only way you get in if your carrer basically ends at age 30 is if you have a physical problem that forces you to hang it up like Koufax or Puckett.
May 29th, 20113:48 pm
major league teams seldom play the hot hand on any kind of regular basis
Thanks for the lineup, Chief!
May 29th, 20113:49 pm
Frankie–rumor is that the giants may trade for Pudge.
May 29th, 20113:52 pm
May 29th, 20113:57 pm
Uggla should drop more in the order until he gets out of the funk. He may rest a day or even a series but not longer than that. The Braves have shown no inclination to have Martin play 2B. Keep him on the left side for now at LF and 3B. 2 positions are hard enough to prepare for.
Jordan should and my guess will keep playing if he keeps a hot hand. Nate will be a 4th OF when Heyward is back if Jordan is still getting on base. Though with Heyward just getting a second MRI that tells me his shoulder is not responding to rest as the trainers and doctors would like. Even when they clear him he will start at spring training complex prior to minor league rehab. I don’t see Heyward back before the All-Star break
May 29th, 20114:45 pm
Aight u guys, be good, I’m going to a cookout
May 29th, 20115:51 pm
How is McCann not in the line up tonight?? Makes absolutely no sense,
Remember back in April when David Ross hit two HR’s in a game? Do you know where he was at the start of the next game?
On the bench.
David Ross catches JJ and catches on day games after night games. Especially 12 inning games the night before.
