Prado sits out first game of season

Martin Prado was out of the lineup for the first time all season Wednesday for what he characterized as just a day off to rest his body. Prado fouled a ball off his foot on Tuesday night but said Wednesday there was no specific injury bothering him.

“Some days you don’t feel well, (like) my body is not responding,” Prado said. “But I’m still playing and doing my best. But players sometimes get mentally get tired. It’s not just physical.”

Prado and Uggla were the last of the Braves regulars to have started every game this season and those streaks ended this series. The struggling Uggla sat out Tuesday night’s game as a mental breather.

Nice to see some speed on the bases. Don’t know how much he will be on the bases but bunt hit was a nice sign.

Amen on the speed… helped us win the game last night!
Brian Jordan’s comment on the post game show about Hinske’s diving catch in right field was the best of the year… as Hinske belly-flopped and made the play, Jordan sang out, “I believe I can fly!”
I almost fell off the couch!

Yeah that was pretty good. I would love to know what the Braves record is during weekday day games over the past couple of years. It seems like we have a late inning bomb to win it every time I listen in the office.

Schafer has looked good so far. We would be a lot better off with him over McLouth when McLouth is healthy. You have speed at the top of the lineup with him then Prado,Chipper and McCann to knock him in. Plus he’s an excellent CF’er.

How did that mental breather work for Uggla today? He had at least 2 K’s that I saw, but I believe he had 3 today. Why does it seem once a player is on the Braves he just goes to complete crap?

I’m satisfied with Schafer, so far, this trip up. The speed is nice.

I was glad to see Uggla drop in the order but he needs to drop to 10th. He is a talent but I am tired of waiting. A number 4,5,6 hitter that is hitting .180 and striking out anytime someone is on base in front can not continue. I understand trying to stay with him but let him get his pitches at the 8th or even 9th spot. I also love the speed at the top of the line up keep up the good work. Minor looked rocky but got the out when he needed them. The bullpen was good as usual.

We should give Schafer a long chance in center. Why not? We are giving Freeman that chance. Freeman is hitting around .250, pretty much a season high, but is helping on defense and shoudl improve at the plate. Schafer is better than any outfielder we have on defense and he has that speed everyone is talking about. Some guys who do just so-so in the minors come alive in the Bigs when they have the tools Schafer has. McLouth can be the 4th outfielder, and the 4th outfielder on this team will get plenty of playing time as Chipper rests and Heyward heals. Chipper needs more rest than he has been getting. Fresh, he isn’t a .268 hitter.

Jordan (Beep Beep) Schafer motoring around the bases is what this team needs more of–SPEED! Adding speed on the bases causes the opposition more headaches than a homer a week does! Just get on base baby and run, run, run!

Nice to see some of you come around on Schafer. Best defensive OF we have and best arm. It is nice to see an OF actually throw the ball in and hold a runner at 2nd. Also, he can actually bunt for hits and has been working on that since ST.

May be the first time in ML history that the starting CF’s were both from the same small county: Polk County FL. Go Gators.

I feel like Prado is a little more hurt than he and Fredi wants the media to know. Judging only by what Ive seen on TV, he looks slower and kind of gimpy. He’s also been kind of feeling at his side where he had the hip pointer. He’s going to play through it, Im sure, but we need him for September and October. Lets hope- pray- that he’s OK. Without Prado, this team is going nowhere.

jordan is the guy the braves need to play and lets see what he can do.mclouth is simply not the player the braves thought that he was when they got him from pittsburgh.

I think mcclouth is in his last year of his contract which is good, couple with the need to tell chipper it is time
to retire or do the braves need to go through his wife, since she is the one to changed his mind about retiring!

Wonder if Richie Hebner or Dick Allen are available.

I’m not sure I understand the McClouth bashers on here. He has actually been pretty good this year. I’ll admit that his arm is pretty useless, but offensively he has been decent.
