Mather is back, and I would rather talk about that, but good article though……..
April 29th, 201111:59 am
How do you still have the immaturity to race cars down Peachtree Road? How old is Lowe again? 37?
you blue, greg
April 29th, 201112:00 pm
you’re charged with a dui if you are taken to the courthouse for a blood test. He’s only been accused of driving under the influence. Ward has to be right
April 29th, 201112:01 pm
Maybe Lowe took on Vin Diesel………
April 29th, 201112:02 pm
Ithink it’s rather funny myself……Lowe doing some thing wild……
Thanks for the work CR….
Should have known your were pinch blogging today. You seem to come in right when all the big news happens.
April 29th, 201112:03 pm
No excuses for drinking and driving. Lowe was being irresponsible with his life and endangering the lives of others. Anyone who drinks and drives should serve jail time, be fined and perform community service.
April 29th, 201112:04 pm
only surprised it wasn’t Chipper.
I call for a match race: Lowe, Chipper vs Rocker & Bobby!
(ar least wasn’t too late & he wasn’t packing heat)
Whine , whine whine……
April 29th, 201112:05 pm
I like Lowe to actually race Vin Diesel, and Paul Walker…..That would be cool……
April 29th, 201112:06 pm
Stupid, stupid, stupid . . . Lowe and McD.
I bet he will be suspended for a couple of weeks, at minimum. This after McDowell incident just doesn’t sit well – I’m pretty sure McDowell will be fired.
April 29th, 201112:07 pm
Lowe should have to go visit the guy that killed Nick Adenhart in the slammer. Are the consequences really worth it, Derek?
Derek Lowe has more money than God and he is too stupid to get a taxi…Or the nicest limousine available…What a moron.
Lowe haters, and McDowell haters…….
April 29th, 201112:08 pm
The Fast and the Furious III. Coming to a ballpark near you. Starring Derrick Lowe as the “Fast” and Roger McDowell as the “Furious.” Kick’in butt and taking names.
Call up Minor for a few weeks , and every thing is fine……..

Really??? Two bad things in 2 days, regardless of the truth of the accusations. Come on Lowe, its not like you are 22. I least he wasn’t dumb enough to blow
What?!? Ball players act like grown ups? That’s asking alot, don’t you think?
April 29th, 201112:14 pm
before i make any comment on Lowe i’m going to wait and see what happen and how the Braves handle both of them.
April 29th, 201112:15 pm
dumb and dumber. luckily there’s not an IQ minimum for the mlb.
April 29th, 201112:16 pm
$15 million per year will pay a lot of cab fares.
Thats good news about Cory G and Mather shows Fredi proactive now pray for D Lowe thats tuff and McDowell lets see can he take a neg and make a pos
I’m pretty sure all the parents that have lost children to DD’s really find this funny.
April 29th, 201112:17 pm
Thanks Carroll, know you will let us know as soon as you hear something.
I don’t really care! I just want to see the Braves play baseball. My focus is on the Game. Not what some one does with their life……..
April 29th, 201112:18 pm
God i can already see this is gonna be a nauseating day of posts from people who i am sure have never done anything wrong in their lives!! Lowe made a mistake give the guy a break….
April 29th, 201112:19 pm
Thanks for the new blog CR!
Hope the day is not too rough….
Monty @ 12:08: Thats funny. I am not condoning or condemning either of

What? We own a baseball team?!? What? Our baseball operations employees are running amok?!? Who is in charge of that division?
Lets hope his car has more speed than has fastball. hahaha
All kid’n aside. I think Lowe and McDowell get fined. Perhaps McDowell get’s a 10 game suspension, something like that. McDowell to take senistivity classes. Oouch! Lowe now hiring a designated driver. Maybe makes one of the rookie bullpen guys chauffer him around instead of carrying My Little Pony bag. Get him to the Greek!
April 29th, 201112:25 pm
Wow Carroll. Covering the Braves for 16 years. You must have started when you were in the 4th grade.
I posted my complete comments about those who come to these AJC blogs and reply with minimalist comments, so I won’t repeat it all here. But, there is a level of maturity required to be a good citizen, and whether posted for kicks, or for sincere gross misunderstanding of hard reality, the truth of DUI is that each year about 4,000 people die or suffer serious injury from DUI related crime.
Because something that kills that many people a year isn’t something to taken lightly. If one of those 4,000 annual victims (many totally innocent victims of circumstance) were known to those making the foolish commentary, the foolish commentary would not dare be made!
April 29th, 201112:26 pm
No news yet, so outta here for a bit. Later ya all, have a good one or two, but not if you are drag raceing. Save Roger! get a win Sunday Derek!
April 29th, 201112:28 pm
Seriously?! SERIOUSLY?! You want to race, TAKE YOUR CAR TO ROAD ATLANTA. Ugh. Moron.

Ken Stallings: Yeah O.k….. What ever……Tell what don’t already know……Blah….
April 29th, 201112:31 pm
1. Suspend Roger for 10 with mandatory sensitivity training and anger management, fine him $5K.
2. Suspend DLowe for 1 start, make him take one of those “blood on the highway courses”
3. Call up Teheran for his debut

April 29th, 201112:33 pm
Lowe has a history of making poor choices.
With so many of our outstanding players being young, an example needs to be set. Suspended Lowe.
DC Brave – Whereabouts in DC?
April 29th, 201112:34 pm
No, nothing amusing about DUIs. Nothing cool about anyone racing through Buckhead, drunk or sober.
A highly sensitive blog today. Might as well hear Gloria Allred talk again…..
Lowe will have to take a class I’m sure, likely be fined a little, and MAY (but I doubt) have to miss a start.
This Lowe thing IS A BIG DEAL. He could of killed somebody. I don’t want to hear that nobody got hurt. It could have been really really bad.
I want to win games, but he needs to know this is not going to be accepted.
April 29th, 201112:35 pm
He didn’t take a breathalyzer so they can’t tell how drunk he was… with his cash (and thus a good lawyer) he’ll get off with a small fine.
BravesFan in DC…I used to live in Vienna, VA and work on the Hill…but I am now in NW Louisiana courtesy of the USAF. I do miss being able to take Metro to see the Braves play the Nats though…
I’ll talk later this topic is meaningless……peace……..”Go!!!! Braves!!!!”
April 29th, 201112:37 pm
DC Bravo – Nice. I live in Ballston, but do enjoy metroing to the Nats games when the Braves are in town. LA is quite a change from DC!
Please, please don’t put him in treatment. Look what that did to Tiger. If he can maintain a 3.21 ERA I don’t care if he strips naked and climbs a light pole on Peachtree. I mean how fast could he have been going on peachtree at 10pm?
DC Brave… We don’t want to judge McDowell guilty before the facts, do we?
I suppose the same thing can be said for Lowe, though I imagine that the facts are simpler to obtain in Lowe’s case and can move to resolution quicker.
April 29th, 201112:39 pm
Alcohol, a car, using wisdom. Which one of these is not like the other two?.
April 29th, 201112:41 pm
IHEART, i was actually about 4 years old when I started…..(I like the way you think!)
“Please, please don’t put him in treatment. Look what that did to Tiger.”
I’m sure Scott Boras and his team are working behind the scenes on behalf of Lowe (his client). But I’m not sure that Lowe’s blood alcohol level not being determined will be the primary driver on what the Braves do with him. If it’s substantiated that Lowe was racing through Buckhead, drunk or sober, that’s darned reckless; endangerment is involved.
April 29th, 201112:42 pm
I really think this thing with Lowe stinks, driving a Porsche, “really”
Buy Buy Ward.
April 29th, 201112:43 pm
Waiting for announcement of the 4 pm presser….
April 29th, 201112:44 pm
My understanding is that if you refuse the breath test in GA the following things happen:
1. You are arrested and taken to jail where a blood test is done.
2. You lose your license until the trial is over.
Most good DUI lawyers in GA tell folks NOT to take the breath test because it is so inaccurate.
Love all the people making jokes and saying drinking and driving isn’t a big deal. Ask Nick Adenhart’s family how funny and how much of a non issue it is. As for McDowell, would anyone think it was a big deal if instead of denigrating homosexuals he called a guy with a black girlfriend a “n***** lover”? In both cases you are implying that there is something wrong with being in that particular relationship. McDowell should be fired and Lowe should be fined $500,000 that would be donated to a charity and suspended for two starts.
D.Lowe is a goat and the guy he was racing is going to go to work and tell his buddies he was racing Lowe and be the talk of the town!
I wonder if Ron Gant had anything to with this, as it allegedly did with the UGA athletic director’s DUI arrest a while back.
April 29th, 201112:48 pm
free, apples and oranges.
April 29th, 201112:49 pm
free, I did ask my dog once if he was a cat lover. Now I know my errant ways.
free – you are assuming McDowell’s guilty and the allegations are 100% verbatim… nothing in that case has been proven, and without audio/video in this day and age, you can’t assume anything offensive was said (granted it probably was). He may be suspended and/or fined or engaging, but he won’t be fired for any “he said she said” type allegations… If it was caught on tape, maybe.
As for Lowe – It’ll all depend on his BAC if they took it at the station…
Fredi also needs to reel these guys in a bit… team seems to be getting away from him a bit…
April 29th, 201112:50 pm
Bummer. Let’s hope he can put it behind him and it won’t affect his play on the field. Let’s hope for no more incidents that bring bad publicity on the Braves.
Good grief Lowe.
April 29th, 201112:51 pm
Murph: Before I stop for the day! Good luck with some of these guy’s today……Be cool…..
April 29th, 201112:52 pm
Some of you can “laugh it off” or make snide remarks about too much sensativity around here these days, but here are the facts –
If the reports are true (I emphasis “IF”) McDowell threatened and individual (a fan of the team, no less) with a leathal weapon in front of his kids, and many others as well. That’s assalt, by the way.
Now Lowe is accused of both driving wrecklessly, and under the influence – BOTH are serious charges which result in many deaths every year.
I don’t consider any of this a laughing matter, and hope both instances are delt with in an appropriate manner, once the facts are determined. At the very least, this is a big embarassment and poor PR for the organization. These are also distractions that the team doesn’t need. Any true Braves fan should be concerned for the team’s sake if not that of the individuals involved.
April 29th, 201112:53 pm
“Love all the people making jokes and saying drinking and driving isn’t a big deal.”
Not sure what your reading, while there have been jokes made about both instances, McDowell and Lowe have been the butt of them, probably 9-10 comments have been about how stupid both were. Not many if any condoning what either did. Although I can honestly say, I’ve done some foolish stuff behind the wheel of a car before and I’ve disparaged people before, not saying it’s right, it’s wrong but I have done it, what about you?
I have to say, it’s been more interesting than the actual McDowell and Lowe stories themselves to read the reactions of some of the regular posters here. Very revealing, and very disappointing in many cases.

April 29th, 201112:56 pm
For those with bad memories and consider this most recent incident a minor distraction, may I remind you of a very similar event in 2003 involving Dany Heatley racing in Buckhead and being charged with vehicular homicide for killing teamate Dan Snyder.
April 29th, 201112:57 pm
Ward, you didn’t answer me earlier. Isn’t today your birthday?
DC Braves Fan – Same, actually. I’m in the Ballston area and work in Chinatown. You?
April 29th, 201112:59 pm
Arkansas – I realize that this is one of those things that two sides will never agree upon, but somne of us consider it EXACTLY APPLES AND APPLES.
April 29th, 20111:00 pm
You can take the man out of Dearborn….but never Dearborn out of the man….
April 29th, 20111:01 pm
Anyone remember when Furcal got 2 DUI’s… one was when he was 19… I remember reading his mom had to pick him up after games because he lost his license… Glad he’s gone. Atlanta has pretty low tolerance for this kinda stuff. Not good for DLowe or McDowell (IF it’’s all true…).
So, you’re saying that interracial couples are akin to different species? Bigot much? And no, it isn’t apples and oranges at all.
@BravesFan in DC
Yes, it goes without saying this is if what is being reported actually happened, but with multiple witnesses and McDowell issuing an apology (interestingly enough not from what he said, but simply for engaging the fans), I’d say it’s very likely what was reported was what happened.
April 29th, 20111:02 pm
Arkansas Transplant: No today is not my birthday, but on the 12:56p.m. post i didn’t say that or the 12:52p.pm. post…..DOB or Carroll . who ever is using my name I would like you to keep an eye on them. I don’t want them using my name…….Thats not right…….
April 29th, 20111:03 pm
multiple witnesses? I’ve only heard from this one fan…
All have a good one, and will talk after the game tonight……..peace……
this really makes me laugh. If yal knew how big of a prick Derek Lowe is yal would understand this is no surprise. @ Carroll, He might be “liked” in the clubhouse, but I think he is a cancer mentally. He has one of the worst attitudes of a player I’ve ever met. Hope he gets this under control but doesn’t surprise me one bit.
April 29th, 20111:04 pm
With Minor’s inconsistent start and Lowe’s potential suspension, the Doomsday Clock just moved two minutes closer to midnight.
Kawakami’s DL stint moved the Doomsday Clock five minutes back from midnight since the start of the season, but those minutes will be added back in once he returns from the DL.
At that point, Lopez may be the only thing standing between the Atlanta Braves and another big-league Kenshin Kawakami start.
2. You lose your license until the trial is over.
So, they can’t make you blow into a Breathalyzer, but they CAN forcibly take blood from you without a court order?
And then you’re punished BEFORE your trial?
THem’s tough DUI laws in Buckhead!
Can honestly say I’ve never driven drunk, but I have raced down a public road before, which was stupid and had I been caught, I should have and would have been punished. Of course, I was 16, not 37.
Racing down Peachtree? Possibly the stupidest thing I have ever heard. There was probably an 8% percent chance of not getting pulled (then again he was drunk). Dumbass.
April 29th, 20111:05 pm
free – I agree with you. It seems pretty apparent something was said… Without “proof” however, I’m not really sure what can be done?… I’m sure he’ll issue an apology, be fined, and maybe required to take an anger class of some sort… I guess it’ll depend on how strict the Braves want to be. They haven’t tolerated much in the past– would sure suck to lose a great pitching coach because of this… just don’t understand why he would engage. The guys been in the majors for decades… doesn’t make any sense…

April 29th, 20111:08 pm
Exactly Will, most people have drank and drove at one point in their lives or one of their family members have. Just not everyone gets caught. People need to get off their soapbox.
So if anyone needs a distraction from all the bad news lately you can start by going to the MLB site and filling out your All Star game ballots. Does it make sense that we’ve had the best catcher in the NL for the last five years and haven’t managed to vote him in as a starter at the all star game yet??? Seriously now. If you’ve got time to read blog comments or watch a game on TV then you’ve got the time to cast 25 votes for Brian McCann. Don’t let the Posey Hype Machine take away an honor that should belong to a Braves player. Especially one as consistently good as McCann.
All you twitters out there can follow the campaign @VoteMcCann2011 …there might even be something in it for you.
April 29th, 20111:09 pm
oh my ain’t all the self-righteous folks out in force today…
McFann is that you?
April 29th, 20111:11 pm
who cares? dumb jocks… they do dumb stuff….for crying out loud they get paid millions to play frigging baseball. nothing to see here moving along
